Audio Only - All Participants:

Hilary, you know, there's really no reason for you to get so dressed up for these podcasts. I thought we were going to keep it really like low key. I know. I really need to start coming camera ready to these things. This is, this is my second time, but I figure we're all friends here, right? And the title of this episode is the naked truth. We're talking about body and in all fairness, it's still morning for me. So I've had a full morning hike, needed to shower, but we're talking about what does it mean to be naked at this age? And we're approaching the holidays where we're going to be showing more skin. We shower differently. We care for our bodies differently. And we see ourselves differently. So let's talk about it. Yeah. Yeah. My favorite subject, getting naked. Um, I'm the nudist of this relationship, by the way. That's true. That's true. That's true. Um, you know, it's funny. I actually was, shopping for a birthday gift yesterday. And, um, I came across another lip gloss, yet another lip gloss. But speaking of nudes, the reason why I bring it up. Is no, I don't need a lip gloss intervention, but I sort of do, but it's a really beautiful nude. I just picked up and it's a new product. It's the Hermes lip oils, lip care oils. Okay. So it's a treatment gloss hybrid 60 lippy that, um, I just wanted to show because I have to say, you know, it is a really beautiful shade. It's um, rose cola. Okay. And I'm just really intrigued by these hybrids. It's a oil and a gloss. And I've been so disappointed in the past. With a lot of these oils, and I think you and I have talked about this, you put them on and they feel like nothing. They look like nothing and they are nothing because they last for nothing. So the lovely girl at, uh, the Hermes boutique said to me, no, this one is different. It's pigmented. It's super healing. My lips have never felt better. It lasts long and you can feel it because I think we've talked. I really like a super tacky, unctuous, rich gloss. Not everybody does. So if you don't like that, you know, this is skinny. This could be good for you. So I'm going to put it on as we're talking, see if I can see, um, the color is a beautiful, you know, we say the word nude and, well, obviously we got a little too frisky for zoom and we were kicked off. I, wow. Apparently a little too nude for them. Um, so you can see. The color. is just a really beautiful, no shimmer, like a really pretty nude. That's pretty. And that has, that has a little more rose than I'm used to seeing you in. Yeah, it does, but it's not pink. Yeah, it's not brown. It's not pink. It's not taupe. It's like just a, I don't know. It's a good color Hermes. Okay. And I have to tell you. It feels, it's not sticky, but it's there. So it meets my needs for being a product that actually feels like something. It's super hydrating. I wore it all day yesterday. I got so many compliments and it feels amazing. I have to tell you. This is a keeper. We've been hard on our miss. So this is good. It's I have to tell you, I, well, you know, I love their nail polishes and now I like the lips. Um, some of the stuff I don't love, and obviously the pricing is a whole other situation, but I really feel like I'm not mad at what we spent for this gloss. So this stays in the, I love it. And I want to try the other shades. There's only five shades. And it's just, I don't know. This is something I could just put on with, I mean, obviously I don't really have much makeup on today. So shocking. Um, but this is something you could just like put on and just like run out the door and you're completely fine. So pretty good nude job. Good, good thing. You could be naked in this gloss and look good. And, uh, you could be fully clothed and toss it on and go, but highly recommend. Good job, Ernest. We're watching you very closely, and I love it. Mm hmm. It's a win. Okay. I love it. Yeah, I thought you'd like it. It would look great on you. I'm always looking for a good would look good in it. Mm hmm. I'm always looking for a good nude. Especially since I might be going into doing, you know, the more of a smokey eye this season here and there. We'll see. So that would call for a nude lip. So yeah, I'm on the hunt for a nude, but there's a really pretty, I thought of you because there's also a really beautiful, like a nude peachy coral. Oh, that was very Hillary. Ooh, that's more of my jam. I mean, anytime I can get you to spend 60 bucks on a gloss, you know, I'm going to do it. I know. We are, by the way, very good and bad influences on each other. Pretty bad, I'm gonna pick that up already. So, let's talk about being naked. You know, we talked earlier about, um, Oh, God, wait a minute. Before I forget, we're talking about all this. Have you seen The Substance yet? Speaking of aging and nude and bodies, it's the new Demi Moore film. Oh, no! About a woman aging. Uh, Dennis Quaid. It's very controversial. It's like really gory. And it's all about aging. The body. And so I don't know if any of our listeners have, have seen it yet. I'm dying to go. Okay. I love anything she's in. And I think, you know, she's 60 and let's face it. I mean, come on, she looks amazing. Um, and, um, Yeah, I'm dying to see it. So if anyone has seen it, please Instagram, hit me up in the, in the messages and, Let me know because as we're talking about the body today, it was the first thing I thought of. I thought, Oh, this new movie is supposed to be really good about aging in the body. So our timing's kind of good. Um, right. Talking about this today. So yeah, your favorite topic. I had to strong arm Susan into this. Look at her face. She's like, Oh, Hillary, I'm trying to do this episode for a while. I have so much skin. I'm not a brood. Let me just put it out there. I'm a very out there person. I love my body. I'm happy. I look great. If I'd like to say so myself, I feel really good, but yeah, no, definitely. I, I, I, I'm also on a little bit older than you. So I've noticed a lot more changes in the past couple of years. It was almost like, I feel like. After 55, things definitely start to change and you can go in there kicking and screaming all you want. But I do think, as we go into this episode, we preface with whatever your version of your body is, that's your perfect body. If you work hard at it, if you eat right, exercise, meditate, sleep, you know, hit all the horsemen, hit all the boxes, as Dr. Peter Atiyah says, then good for you. You are taking care of your beautiful, precious vessel, as we all should be. Um, but as we do get older, there comes that balance of acceptance versus going down in flames. And that is a tightrope. I am constantly walking. Uh, we talked about this in our last episode, things we're mad at, things we're getting, trying to get comfortable with on this aging journey. But I am standing by the fact that this is a privilege. I'm happy to be here and I'm happy to be healthy. That being said, we have some products, tips, and tricks, Hilary especially, to really, coming from an esthetician's point of view, to keep your body maintained. Much like you take your car in to get the oil changed and to get it tuned up. I think it's the same thing with the body. Do you agree? Yes, it's the same thing. And also, you know, we talk about the skin on our face, our neck, maybe our decollete, but we don't talk about the fact that the rest of our body is skin as well. And. Treating your body like you treat your face is going to be beneficial for a few different reasons. And a lot of them have to do with systemic health. So we're not just being vain here. We are absolutely walking that tightrope. I'm going to share some photos with you guys in a few moments that I received yesterday after getting back from the rheumatologist that blew my mind. So I thought they were naked pictures. No, no, no, no, no. All of a sudden our listeners are like, photos? What? Photos? No, but it's going to be fun, so you guys have to stay for this. Um, but what we're going to be talking about and touching on today are things that are going to make you feel better. They're going to make your joints feel better. It's going to make your body feel better because when you incorporate lymphatic drainage, dry brushing, lymphatic massage when you're applying things, and when you're applying things to your skin that don't disrupt your endocrine system, because we're balancing that very carefully right now, you can find more comfort in your body. And you can feel better in the skin that you're in right now. So this is not just a vanity episode. Yes. We're going to talk about the fact that we replenish differently than we did decades ago. We're going into the holidays. We're going to be showing a little bit more, but above all else, I find that using the little tools like My dry brushes before I shower. I have two so I can do it really quick. Get in and get out. My skin feels smoother. I don't get those funny dry patches or rashy areas because I was getting weird bumpy areas that were strained. I also find my circulations better. And when you improve your lymphatic system and your circulation, Remember, those are tied to your immune system, so you're able to fight. We got cold season, flu season coming up. Who would ever think that something as simple as dry brushing can actually support your immune system? And you know, And you don't have to spend a lot of money. This one is from Whole Foods. You know, I pick up these every few months cause there's really no way to wash these. Um, so I shake mine out and then I, I pick up one every few months, but really inexpensive at Whole Foods. So there's dry brushes there. You don't have to go and order an expensive one. This one was a gift from my friend, Natasha. She gave me this one and I love it. Cause it's got this little massage and this long and I can get my back. I don't know where she got this one. Um, you know, they're everywhere, right? They're everywhere. And you don't have to get all crazy with things. I mean, you know, you know how I am about symmetry and matching. So if I can deal with two different dry brushes, so can you. It's like, you know, you know, I want them to match. But. It's not that important. But one thing that we'll, I'll tell people is that when you're dry brushing, start at the palms of your hands, start at the palms of your feet, always brush upward in very short, light motions towards your heart. So you're going to come down towards your heart, upwards towards your heart, short, gentle motions because your lymphatic system, it's a one way street and it all goes to your heart. So you're moving the interstitial system. fluid. So if you're bloated, if you're just feeling, it's going to help move everything. And that's your body's, um, housekeeper, your lymphatic system is the housekeeper, your lymph nodes are the waste management centers. Keep everything going. I prefer dry brushing personally in the morning because it really like revived, gets me going. If I dry brush before night, sometimes I'll sleep better, but sometimes I'm like, Whoa, no, I had to give you. Yeah. And I do it really fast. I mean, so it, it, it, it, it really energizes me too. I don't think it's something I would do before bed, but maybe some people do. Um, But you always taught me, you know, upwards motions towards the heart. And I always remember that because I always think, Oh, I love myself. I love getting my little morning to make me feel good as I'm looking in the mirror going, hate myself, you know, instead I think of myself and I work towards my heart. And, uh, that's how I remember that little trick. You know, that's a good one. Yeah. Because it's like the heart center, the love, all of that. And you know, you can find all these kinds of little do daddies. I mean, I think this is like, you know, bless the woman that started this company. She's selling PVC pipe for an insane amount of money, but you can also, but they work, they do work if you have tight joints. And if fascia is problematic for you, it can make such a big difference. So You can manipulate your fascia in so many different ways. I even, I really love, this is like a big body gua sha. Lots and lots of ways to do it. You don't have to spend a lot of money, um, but it can help to relieve some chronic pain in the body. So, And then, you know, any sort of an oil I've been trying lately, castor oil, I put it into a pump. I think I'm like the last person on the planet that finally broke down. Cause I've used all the fancy oils forever, but I thought, you know, I'm going to give castor oil a shot. I mix it sometimes with, um, olive oil, different things, but I massage. I do a lot of my massage with, um, Oil or I'll even do the fascia blasting if I'm in the shower or the tub with my body soap because then it's easy. It's quick. I'm not greasy. Um, but you know, the real hero and we're going to have her on guys. If you take anything away from this episode. Oh, okay. Let's give a moment. I'm going to actually, I have to put a little on with you, Hill. And do this, but, um, essential or essential by Adele is a body lotion that Hillary turned me on to, and we are having her on soon as a guest. And she is a hand and body model who created the most. Beautiful, rich hand and body. You know, do you want to call it a lotion because it's in this packaging? Okay, but I got news for you and maybe I'll fight her on this. I really feel like it's a cream. That goes on like a lotion. This is truly luxury in a bottle and the smell, we're gonna, I'll save some of my comments on that because I have a fun story to tell her, but the scent in this. is just it smells like you are at a spa in Italy or Napa. It she nailed it on the aroma for people that don't like fragrance. I'm telling you, I have a whole family that lives with me that does not care for fragrance and believe me. This is the only one that they ever say, Mom, you smell so good. Like, and it's natural. It's just the ingredient. I'll read a few things in here. So aloe is the base with grapeseed oil. Um, olive fruit oil. We have some shea butter in here. Shea butter. Yep. But then we get really interesting. So she has the coffee, um, or Arabica. Yes. So the coffee we have perform this raspberry, rosemary, sunflower. We have geranium, we have frankincense. Well, she'll tell us too, we have on as a guest hill, like what everything does. Mm-Hmm. But I'm telling you, you put it on. And it goes on and it leaves your skin glowing with absolutely no residue at all. And we're going to be doing this again when she's on because My mom swears that it's firmed her body. It's very firming. It's helped with dark spots on her legs. Let me just show the people, the woman we're talking about here, meaning my mother. Yeah, because this woman does not mess around when it comes to body care. Like my mom was using the biotherm, like the re the whole reason I love biotherm things. She had the biotherm shower in the eighties. Biotherm was huge. Brand out of France. There she is. There she is. So I was getting back from the rheumatologist yesterday and my mom sends me a text with these photos and she's like Oh, we just had a little impromptu photo shoot over the weekend. Yes. There is a story Ha ha ha mom and a little miniskirt. Do you see the feathers? She's that's what 70 looks like people. I mean, well, if 70 looks like that, then I can't wait for my next birthday. Hurry up and let's go. She looks absolutely. She loves Adele. Not only is she beautiful on the, on the. outside. She is beautiful on the inside, but yes, you know what I love about your mom more than anything is just, I mean, she walks the walk and talks the talk. She puts in the time to look the way that she does, but she just, in those pictures, the con, you know, we talked about this in our last episode, she radiates that confidence. Like she knows who she is. Yeah. You know, and she's proud of it and she's proud of her age and she looks amazing. And, you know, it's, it's a beautiful thing to see someone who she never lies about her age. She's not, you know, she tells the truth. She lives it. So she's a real role model of how to be comfortable in your own skin, how to be comfortable in your own skin. And a lot of that was born from my grandmother getting sick. When she was quite young and then living in pain and suffering and not feeling good. And my mom decided, you know what? I'm, I don't care if I'm not here for a super long time. I'm not going to be in pain and agony and misery. And I'm going to start with diet and exercise. And taking care of myself because I want to be in the best vessel that I can for as long as I'm here. So while things like this might look like, Oh, it's all vanity and it's all this. It's really grounded in. I want to be able to play with my grandchildren. I want to feel good. And, you know, arthritis, things like that are prevalent in our family. Heart disease, arthritis, high blood pressure. We've got the whole laundry list and she's like, what? I'm not gonna go down sick and miserable. That's right. There you go. I see her. I hear her. And that's one thing that I hope our listeners take away from this episode, you know, and talking about this naked truth. It's not just about confidence and feeling good in your body, whatever. It's really. What you put in is equally as important as what you put on your body. Your skin is your largest organ. Take care of it with the same diligence that you do your heart, your lungs, every part of you. And it's the, the amount. and the degree to which our skin absorbs and how deeply things absorb. For a very long time, because the FDA said that something is called a drug the second it hits your bloodstream, skincare companies have stopped testing to see how far their products will penetrate. They'll always talk about penetration and Special encapsulated peptides to penetrate to the dermis and la, la, la, la, la, when they're talking about building collagen and building, you know, collagen, elastin, anti aging. But what they don't talk about is that things go far deeper and they do actually go into the bloodstream. Cause at that point, then they're classified as drugs over the counter. They can't talk about it, but here's the truth. Anything that you put on your skin is going to enter your body. Almost, almost, almost, almost, almost not anything, but many things that you put on your skin will be found in your bloodstream. And there are studies right now about Lycra and spandex having Estrogen like mimicking factors. So women that wear, you know, estrogen, I mean, that where Lycra Spandex and especially work out in Lycra and Spandex are suffering from hormonal estrogen, like imbalances, which actually, and I don't know if this is scare tactic, but some people were saying that it leads to obesity. I feel like that's a little strong. I think someone's trying to sell me something. Yeah. The hormone disruptor is real and there is a reason you don't want to wear plastic clothes. Right. So instead you want to fuel your body with good thing. So. Obviously, we love this lotion. There's so many other creams and lotions. I have 150 in my closet right now. But something I really like to do, Hill, and I know you do too, with the massage in the morning, um, and I like layering my products. Much like I like layering skin care on my face, I like layering it on my body. Um, I love, um, You know me, I never met an oil that I don't like. Um, but I have my daily oils. Um, I have a bunch of other ones too up there, um, that I absolutely love that are really inexpensive. And then I have my fancier oils. Um, I love, you know, I love the kids at Wonder Valley and I love the Hinoki body oil. This is incredible. What's interesting about this is it is at a luxury price point, but it has so many. natural ingredients with the olive oil, et cetera. Um, I love the fragrance of the Hinoki. It's so lovely. It pairs really well and I love to layer and I love to do, you know, my oils and my creams together. Um, and it depends. Sometimes I'll do an oil first and then lock it in. Other times I'll put the lotion and I'll press on top some oil. Just really depends how I feel that day and how I want my skin to glow and look. Um, but if I want to get fancy. I love my Frederic Malle Carnot Flower. I often wear this as a perfume oil. Yes. And literally just put it on as a perfume. Again, these bottles for the price they are, I gotta tell you guys, they last. I mean, a little goes a long way with body oils. So, Remember that when you're using body oil, a little goes a long way, you'd be shocked how little you can use to cover your whole body and with the luxury body oils too. So, you know, so many of us, you know, Gen X, whatever. So many of us, you know, we were introduced to body oils when it was like Bath and Body Works or Victoria's Secret or whatever. Yeah. Oh yeah. The body shop, those cheap, cheap oils. And you did. You needed a lot. I mean, you would tear through those things like nothing, but they were cheap oils. It was mineral oil and luxury oils, warm them up, rest them in. And they will melt and spread into your skin. I mean, I think I've had, I'm not joking. I mean, this much I've used, I mean, this is like a month so far. I'm not lying. Like, the stuff lasts. I'm not saying, like, keep it forever because oils turn. You have to be careful. But, I mean, you can even, if they're really good natural oils, you can even use them in your hair. So I'll put it in my body, my hair, yeah. And then put it in my hair, you know, it's so good. And it really makes your hair, sometimes I'll do it with like, you know, third or fourth day hair or, you know, I wash my hair like, my God, should I really admit how much I wash my hair? I wash my hair like twice a month and I work out every day. But I'm at that age where my hair just doesn't, I don't even, I'll sweat a lot and it dries like and it actually looks better the next day. I don't wash my hair a lot and I'm telling you it works better when I don't. Do you wear a hat when you work out? No. You do, right? I'll wear a baseball cap when I go on my walks every day to cover for the sun. Not that we have any sun here, um, but, uh, and I do wear beanies we're going into my beanie season. You know, I love my beanies. Your scalp doesn't sweat a whole lot. No, it really doesn't. See, I washed my hair about twice a week. That's as much as I can go. Because, well, I wear an umbrella when I hike because I'm in California and I'm going uphill. Yeah, well, me too. I mean, I'm on a huge trail that is like this. So I don't do flat, but I'll tell you, I sweat, but my scalp doesn't sweat my palms and my, oh my God, why are we even talking about this? But my palms and my feet and my scalp don't sweat. Is that bad? I don't know, but they really don't the rest of my body. Sure. I'll sweat. Also, I, in the summer, I should preface when it's really hot, I'll wash my hair obviously once a week or sometimes even more. But as we get into the colder winter months, I can go like 10 days. Oh, that's so good. I know. And I think it, well, cause I mean, I highlight my hair. So, you know, I really try to, I pay a lot for my hair, so I try to take really good care of it. But. We'll have a hair episode one day. We need to have, well, we need to have a hair episode. We do. We do. I'm actually on, as you guys all know, um, I'm having like this whole dry hair episode season of my life where my hair is just dry and I'm like, okay. So don't wash it as much as you're washing it. I only wash it once a week. Well, maybe you even need less and it's and it's, it's easily three inches damp after a hike. So I have to be careful with anyway, whatever. Um, we all anticipate our hair getting drier. It's been going on guys. You're, you're trying to fire my brand. So stay tuned. Oh, okay. Yeah, we'll do a hair episode. I will do a hair episode. Stay tuned. See juries out. Okay. Okay. So listeners, if you have great products for hydrating the hair, I love Shu Uemura. I'm not spending Shu Uemura prices anymore. I do. I, you know, I'll tell you the, their camellia hair oil is truly the best on the market. Okay. We'll, we'll save all this stuff for our hair episode. I know. This is what happens when you and I just get on here and start talking beauty. We'll, go from where like the ADD of beauty will go from one part of the body and topic to another. So staying on topic friends. Um, and then I also, I, you know, this is my summer lotion. I've talked about it before in past episodes, the Mario Badescu, the summer shine. If you want your skin to glow with a little bit of shimmer, this is incredible. I'll use this in the winter too. I love it. Anytime I go out this, this is a must have lotion in your arsenal of lotions because it has the shimmer in here and the hydration in here is exceptional. Um, I never purchased that. Okay. This is, I've used this for 30 years. Isn't that wild? Wild. This is the big size. Cause I go through it so much. You put this on, not only is your skin, does your skin feel amazing? But the shimmer is so subtle that your skin just looks like it's glowing. And anytime I wear this, I'm telling you people compliment my legs. I put on my legs and it show stopping it's here. I go good. Summertime body lotion. I'll put it, I'll put it in our Amazon store. Yeah. Let's put it in the Amazon store because you can get it on Amazon. It's really inexpensive, but it's so good. It's so good. Yeah. It's pageant. Oh, no, you did not. It's pageant. No, Flamingo Fancy was pageant. It's pageant. Oh, no. I'm telling you, that's going to stick. My legs look pageant when I put it on. Okay. Here she is. Miss America. Oh my gosh, I love it. I love it. I'm putting on more lip oil because. Because why not? Because I can, and I just, oh god, you guys, don't be mad at me that you're all gonna want the, it's, yeah, okay, well, everybody's for me, and yell at me about spending this much on a lip oil, but, Ooh, it's really good. Well, everybody's going to be mad at me for the next thing. I'm going to say I have a little challenge. I don't know who's going to be brave enough to take it. But the other thing that is fabulous for your body. Is a cold plunge. I know. I know. Um, I'm just saying, yeah, listen, I don't hate a cold plunge. I'm just not sure if cold plunge is, I mean, I think we should preface with cold plunge feels amazing and it's invigorating. And I know so many friends that are huge fans of it. Check with your doctor. That's all. If you have any type of heart condition, high blood pressure issues, anything like that, check with your doctor before you do extreme things like sauna, steam, and cold plunge. If you get the clearance, Go for it because I love nothing more than that cold plunge into a sauna, into a cold plunge into a sauna, but you just have to be careful and definitely check with your doctor always. But you can also shortcut a cold plunge by submerging your face and your hands or your hands and feet into an ice bath. So if you can't do that, if you can't do a whole cold plunge, hands and feet. Or face into like a big thing with ice cubes and ice water Has some of the same effects. So there's I love doing my face and I'll tell you why not because okay I hate being cold and anyone who knows me knows I hate being cold. So i'm not a huge i'm I don't I don't live for the cold plunge. Okay. I'm going to be honest because I hate being cold, but I will do a final cold blast in my shower at the end. It really is good for your skin and your hair. And we all know that, but the, the face in the cold ice water. Wow. That is so effective for puffiness. Joan Crawford was right. That cold plunge on the face. I prefer that. It just, I feel I get fast results on my face. Everything looks tight. Everything looks fresh and I'm not torturing myself. Right. Right. Life's too short to like torture myself. Everybody share with us. Tell us how you like to get naked. Tell us how you like it. How do you like to be naked? How do you like to get naked? Yeah, we want to hear it all. Was this helpful? I hope I hope so because if you take nothing away from this Be more gentle be mindful of what you put on your body Try dry brushing go get a couple cheap dry brushes in the morning before you jump in the shower You can do it in under 60 seconds, 120 seconds, if you're being, you know, frivolous with your time. Two minutes. Do it before you jump in the shower. I bet you're going to drink less coffee. You're going to feel better. Your brain will feel sharper. Your skin will feel smoother. And you have like this rosiness. You wear less makeup. It's crazy what just a little dry brushing will do in the morning, so. And internal hydration. Yes. Don't forget. Hydration too. So drink your water and follow us. We are on all the socials at Life Gloss podcast and you can find us here. Share us with a friend, leave us comments. We love talking to you.
