Advent Day 7

In this Advent reflection on Isaiah 11:1-10, we encounter a prophecy that reveals the sevenfold spirit of the coming Messiah — wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. What makes this passage particularly striking is the reminder that our Lord doesn't judge merely by what his eyes see or what his ears hear. In our post-enlightenment world, where empirical evidence reigns supreme, we're challenged to remember that faith sometimes requires us to trust beyond our senses. The conversation draws a beautiful connection to Jesus' baptism when the Spirit descended upon him like a dove, reminding us that what was once reserved for prophets and kings is now available to every believer through the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Perhaps most compelling is the vision of ultimate peace — where the wolf and lamb live together — which isn't just a distant promise but a present reality we're called to embody today as peacemakers. In a culture that celebrates violence in entertainment and politics, we're invited to critically examine what we consume and how we can live as agents of Christ's peace right now, even as we await its complete fulfillment.
