Advent Day 11

In this Advent reflection on Zechariah 9, we encounter one of Scripture's most profound paradoxes: our King arrives not on a war horse but on a humble donkey. This image challenges everything we think we know about power, victory, and sovereignty. How often do we try to remake Jesus in our own image, expecting him to align with our political views, our strategies for success, or our plans for peace? The passage reminds us that Jesus didn't come to meet our expectations — he came to shatter them and offer something infinitely better. While Israel anticipated a military liberator from Rome, God provided a spiritual liberator from sin itself.

The conversation explores how we constantly attempt to control our circumstances, pursuing peace through wealth, recognition, or power, when Christ calls us to an upside-down kingdom where true victory comes through surrender. This Advent season invites us to stop trying to control our King and instead let him be King over every area of our lives. What would it look like to release our grip on the steering wheel and trust in his sovereignty? The answer might just transform everything we thought we knew about finding peace.
