As part of our focus on Relationships this week at Seed, we had an informal chat with Dr Anouk Houdijk, Seed’s Clinical Psychologist specialising in trauma, based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Says Dr Anouk, “Trauma influences how critical we are of ourselves and the stories we tell ourselves. And this in turn directly impacts our relationships both with ourselves and others.”

"Our whole world revolves around relationships – our songs, our dramas, our films are about relationships... We could probably talk about this for days, because of  the variety of relationships we have, how they change as we get older and develop and our how earliest relationships set the foundations for all of the relationships that follow. So, the topic is huge and varied.”

In this podcast, we discuss:

  • Why & how our early relationships provide the formative basis of our future relationships
  • Healthy vs unhealthy relationships - what they look like
  • How we can navigate, mitigate and even overcome the impact of trauma on our relationships
  • The importance of working on ourselves to help improve our relationships with others
  • The importance of compassion
