WOW! Excited to share our 200th episode and Shelly is celebrating this milestone by sharing what has mattered most across Words of Wellness, plus the simple health foundations she comes back to again and again when life feels busy, confusing, or unmotivated.
We talk about wellness as more than fitness and nutrition. Shelly breaks down the bigger picture, including mental wellness, emotional health, social connection, spiritual growth, and even financial wellness. When you look at your life through that lens, you can give yourself credit for what’s strong and get honest about where you want to grow, without guilt. The goal is progress you can sustain, not a short burst of perfection.
From there, she shares the basics that support longevity and quality of life, especially for midlife moms and dads: move your body daily, prioritize protein and nourishment, strength train consistently (three days a week is a great start), protect your sleep, manage stress, get outdoors, and stay connected with the people you love. We also talk about purpose, community, and why moms need support systems that make self-care possible, not just “nice in theory.”
If you’re ready to take one small step toward more energy, purpose, and joy, press play, then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a quick review so more people can find Words of Wellness.

Meet Shelly And The Mission
SPEAKER_00Hello everyone, I am so excited to welcome you to Words of Wellness. My name is Shelly Jeffries and I will be your host. My goal is to answer these questions and so much more. With 35 plus years as a health and wellness professional, a retired college professor, a speaker, and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I certainly have lots to share. The ultimate hope is that you leave today with even just one nugget that can enhance the quality of your life and that you will, we all will, now and into the future, live our best quality of lives full of energy, happiness, and joy. Now let's dive into our message for today.
Celebrating The 200th Episode
SPEAKER_00Hello, my friends. Welcome back to Words of Wellness. This is our Shelly's Shares episode, and I am very excited to share with all of you that this is my 200th episode of Words of Wellness. And I just can't believe it. And I just wanted to share the excitement with you all. I am proud of myself for following my heart, starting my podcast, and I just want to thank all of you for being a part of this journey. And I wanted to just do a short episode today, just in celebration. And I wanted to share just a little bit of an overview of some of the highlights that I feel have come across in some of my episodes, and perhaps some of the areas that I feel are very relevant today and very much important for our overall wellness and longevity and the future of our health and our families' health.
What Wellness Includes Beyond Fitness
SPEAKER_00And, you know, that is a big reason, and I have shared this already, but a really big reason why I started my podcast, Words of Wellness, was to share wellness tips, education, just journeys with you. I have guests on who are experts in different areas of wellness. And I also have those that come on and share their own personal journeys and things that they have experienced and gone through that relate to wellness. And the reason I wanted this podcast to be titled Wellness, Something Around Wellness, is because it encompasses so many different areas of our lives. When it comes to wellness, we're not just talking about our fitness, our nutrition. We're talking about our mental wellness, our emotional wellness, our social, our spiritual, financial. There are so many different components when it comes to our overall wellness. And I have said for years, and when I would teach health at the college, I would always share the different components of health and wellness with my students. And I would always share that, you know, these are the different areas. And I would let them know, and I'm telling all of you also, is to think about the areas that maybe are your strengths. Maybe you're strong in the area of nutrition and fitness, but you'd like to work a little bit more and grow a little bit more in your spiritual journey or your financial journey, whatever it looks like for you, I think it's great to just be aware of the different components and give ourselves credit where we are strong, the areas that we have strength in. And then we can kind of focus on the other areas a little bit more and improve those where improvements might be needed. And so I just I really want to truly thank all of you for being a part of this journey. And I know I'll be sh thanking you again at the end, but a couple of highlights I want to just quickly run through with all of you. Um, just again, just a little bit of an overview.
Simple Foundations That Still Work
SPEAKER_00Some of the things some of the biggest lessons that I feel like I have shared through the podcast and and being in the health and wellness industry for for decades, I think that one of the biggest key points right now is that it doesn't have to be so complicated. We make it complicated. Wouldn't you agree? We really make it complicated. And some of the really important foundations that still matter and will matter well into the future is the importance of moving your body, moving your body daily, prioritizing your protein and your nourishment, strength training. We can't say enough. I can't say enough about how important it is to strength train on a regular basis. I would say a good solid three days a week, especially for my mom's out there. Make sure you're getting that strength training in regularly. Quality sleep is so important. Managing our stress, spending time outdoors, and staying connected with the people that you love. Now, this is again just an overview. I've gone into these different topics a little bit more in detail, and I'm sure I will be going into them again in future episodes. But today I just want to do a little overview with all of you.
Longevity And Sustainable Habits
SPEAKER_00And just remind you, too, that I think, especially for any of my midlife moms and dads out there as well, you'll find if this hasn't happened to you already, that your overall health, yes, it's about feeling good, looking good, but it's so much more than that. It's about having energy and vitality. It's about our longevity, living for many years to come, but not just living, but doing so in a healthy, energetic, joyful manner. And keeping up habits that are sustainable, that we can continue to carry through into our later years. And also focus on thriving. Sometimes I've I just feel for those that just feel like they're getting by, they're just like surviving. No, we want to be thriving, and that is something to really think about, you know. That true wellness, I believe, is having that energy for ourselves, but also for our families and for our purpose and for our lives. And I know that having a purpose in life is such a huge factor when it comes to our longevity.
Moms Self-Care And Real Support
SPEAKER_00And just real briefly, specifically for my moms out there, I know that I share and I hear many times that moms don't really have the time or they don't feel motivated, or they don't take time for themselves. And again, we spend a lot of time taking care of others, and sometimes we neglect that care for ourselves. So I just want to remind all my moms out there to just continue to take care of those around you and your family, but continue to take care of yourself. And if you're not doing that yet, start to make a point and integrate that into your daily routine. Take some time for you, your wellness, your self-care. So, so critical. And if it means, you know, finding a workout partner or a walking partner, whatever that looks like for you, take the time to do that because again, another part of this is community. And I've talked about community a lot, but we're never meant to do life alone. And I really, truly, especially believe this when it comes to us as moms and you know supporting each other along our motherhood journeys.
Building Community With Moms Who Flourish
SPEAKER_00And that's a big reason, again, why I created and founded Moms Who Flourish to support all of us moms, to help us to thrive and flourish, to put our wellness, our health, our self-care as priorities so that we can live our best lives and we can be energetic and full of joy and be able to share that with everyone that's around us. And it's it's so important. So I just want to finish with so much gratitude, thanking you all, those of you who have been following along and listening. I I appreciate you more than you know. And I just thank you so much for being a part of this journey. And you know, whether you're just tuning in for the first time now, or you've been listening since day one, or you've started listening somewhere along the way, it's just really an honor to have you a part of this journey with me. And I just always, always hope and pray that each episode you find value in, you that you leave feeling empowered and encouraged and equipped to take even just one small step toward a healthier, more vibrant life. So, with that being said, my friends, we are just getting started. My mission is going to continue the same, and that's going to be educating all of you, helping moms prioritize their health, helping you all reduce your toxic exposure and just embrace longevity and create lives full of energy, purpose, and joy.
