Hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, is the second most common surgery for women in the United States (after cesarean section), with approximately 500,000 hysterectomies performed yearly.

The most common reasons for having a hysterectomy include: heavy periods – which can be caused by fibroids. pelvic pain – which may be caused by endometriosis, unsuccessfully treated pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), adenomyosis or fibroids. prolapse of the uterus.

Up to 80% of Black Women battle fibroids by age 50.

Black Women’s are 2 to 3x as likely to get a hysterectomy than white women.
