Episode three it's different. And an example we said a show about one time. He would say nothing, anything and everything, and then it would be nothing Right.

Speaker 3So here's the deal, even though this is probably have to drink a Hell, mary, okay. Well, you got that part. There you go. So, even though this is the Super Bowl episode and we're taping it now, the teams have already been decided who in the Super Bowl at the time this airs. Right, right, I'm going to go for the Ravens and the Lions. That's who I want to see in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3You're not setting me up. They're actually not a setup. So the Lions are the Ravens. The Lions, that's who I want to Super Bowl, I mean right now, as we're filming, there's only four teams left.

Speaker 1Yes, so we'll dive into all that. So please stick around. We got an amazing, amazing story of Paul's past life a little bit, which I'm super excited to dive in, but all right. So, paul, let's talk about this. Nice, I could hear the hurt in your voice. How are you feeling? What's going on? Cause just, it wasn't just this past week, what.

Speaker 3Yeah, the bills lost and it was how they lost. You know, so you have to understand.

Speaker 3So I was around. My first game was in 73 that I went to at the Bill Stadium to see OJ play OJ.

Speaker 3OJ Simpson back of the day.
Speaker 2Come on, I've told you I'm knowledgeable. There you go.
Speaker 3And then we went to forestry Super Bowls, which no other team has done for straight Super Bowl appearances, and we lost all four in a row, all four.
Speaker 2Dang y'all suck what. I'm just kidding, but here's the deal.
Speaker 1Here's the deal. So the first one we were winning, we were, we were we could have won.
Speaker 3So we were running down. Clock was almost ticking down Fourth quarter. All we had to do was basically kick a chip shot field goal to win the game.
Speaker 1Like do you know how far away it was the field goal? 20 something yards. Okay, 20 something yards, so I mean chip shot extra points.
Speaker 3That's very short in football, yeah 27 yards, make max 30. It was short Sure and we were.
Speaker 2У0.
Speaker 3If we had kicked this there was no time left on the clock the bills would have won their first Super Bowl ever in history, and he missed the kick.
Speaker 1It went wide right. Yeah, that's like the famous call wide right, wide right, so just now remind yourself to last weekend.
Speaker 2Josh Allen gets us down in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3He gets us all the way down. This was just this past weekend. Gets us all the way down. He does his job. The kicker comes out, misses it wide right. See, that's when you have to, that's when I'm like how could this happen to the bills?
Speaker 2See as a coach myself. I would never allow that player to step back on any turf.
Speaker 1Well, it wasn't the same player. That was like a 40, 50 year deal.
Speaker 3Scott Norwood was the first. That was 92, I think it was.
Speaker 2See, that's the first problem that I was thinking about was why would you still keep the scout on the team?

Speaker 1So, john, I want to just really quick, just a very quick set of rabbit shroud. You realize that a lot of people listening don't know who these people are, who's people are.

Speaker 2Football, football, we were going to talk about flag football, or we were giving the overview of the podcast.
Speaker 1So, paul, had to relive. Oh, that was agony.
Speaker 3Just a really agony. I don't even think I could actually talk to anyone the next day.
Speaker 2Really, is that serious for you?
Speaker 3The bills are very serious to me In my entire family.
Speaker 2He's like Isaac.
Speaker 1So, paul, here's an interesting thing.
Speaker 2Or you.
Speaker 1Well, no, I agree, but I've actually implemented. It's called the two minute rule, yes what's the two minute rule? Two minute rule. So obviously I mean I'm wearing a Ohio State hat. I'm a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
Speaker 2We can't tell it's backwards, right.
Speaker 3Buckeyes nation.
Speaker 1Buckeyes nation.
Speaker 2it says yeah, Buckeyes nation. Sorry, sorry.
Speaker 1So, anyways, so the two minute rule. So what I do is I say, okay, I'm going to give myself two minutes right after games over and we lose, I can be mad, I can be upset for two minutes. And then, after that two minutes is over, I literally say this out loud to myself. I say, okay, these are 18 to 22 year old kids playing a game and this should have no direct effect on my life whatsoever. And so and then I try to calm myself down so I used to be two days, okay, so it used to be long. So I've worked my way down to two minutes.
Speaker 3So what you understand my first game was 50 years ago.
Speaker 1That's.
Speaker 3And I've been following the bills for 50 years, I get it they never won a Super Bowl.
Speaker 2No, not once they've won a Super Bowl for you. No in 50 years. In 50 years, are you kidding?
Speaker 3Yeah, there's a lot of teams that haven't even gone to Super Bowl yet. What's still in the NFL? Every team has not gone to Super Bowl yet, right, right. That's but the fact that we have gone four times, we couldn't get one of those.
Speaker 2I'm sorry.
Speaker 1So, anyways, we bring all that up now is because you know, obviously we're going through some football grief. I mean, I know I went through some this year with the Buckeyes.
Speaker 2Good grief.
Speaker 1But we're going to make this relatable for everybody, in case you're not a football fan. So our friend John here has taken up flag football and so a lot of your buddies.
Speaker 3First, we were shocked to hear that. Right, yeah, we were like we were shocked, you know.
Football Team Practice and Quarterback Success
Speaker 1I'm an athlete? No, we, no. We know you were, but but Don't know why, what just? Happened there, so okay, so all right. What made you want to play flag football? Let's start there, isaac, your buddy, your best friend, isaac, one of your best friend.
Speaker 2Isaac knows football really well, but I've played football for funsies with the homies a lot before and I'm a basketball player like by default, like you like play basketball and I know that sport and I'm better, I'm the best at basketball because that's the sport that I played the most. But I like football too. I like running, I like throwing and I I don't know. Yeah.
Speaker 1I'm better myself athletic, okay, so, so you play with your buddies, and so they're like, I think, my answers are too long whenever you ask me questions. Cause you are. Yeah, yeah, I tried to move it. No, thank you, I appreciate that. No, I'm just a mess. Good point, there you go. So yeah, no, we got the point, john.
Speaker 2So I'm telling you All right, brandon, yeah, oh, that's what it feels like, yeah, no.
Speaker 1So all right. So you're playing with your buddies, you know, having fun, just goof around, and then so are they like, hey, we got a team and we want you to be on it, or how did that work?
Speaker 2out. So Isaac was like, dude, we should join a like football team. And I was like, oh, let's do it Okay.
Speaker 1So you had that. Then what happened, like at the first practice or whatever like what position. Were you playing and all that.
Speaker 2We had. We just had our practice two or three weeks ago.
Speaker 1Okay. Our first game hasn't even happened yet, oh, because of the snow, by the time this podcast drops, it will have happened. Okay.
Speaker 2Yes, because of this torrential snowpore, we had Snowpocalypse and Mount Julia, the snowpocalypse.
Speaker 1Snowbegetting. Look at that camera owner.
Speaker 2It's about to die. You see it's flickering.
Speaker 3It's kind of spooky. Anyways, the LED is going to die. Yeah Right, it's not the camera, right, no?
Speaker 2no, not the camera. The camera's plugged in. Cool, sorry guys, you didn't even know that.
Speaker 3Anyway, we'll edit that out, keep going.
Speaker 2Maybe we might keep it raw. However, the we were discussing this plan to play flag football and we had our first. What was the question? I don't even remember what we're, I'm just mumbling to my favorite part.
Speaker 1You're the meme of Michael Scott, where sometimes there's a start, a sentence, and I just don't know where it's going to go.
Speaker 2Sure and so you know who's Michael Scott. Yeah, Exactly.
Speaker 1So all right, so you're playing a practice Right and then, and so you're playing. And what position did they assign you on the team? Quarterback, bro.
Speaker 2So they assigned you a quarterback. So so you Let me explain why Do you please explain why. Okay, so y'all may look. I I I will admit I don't know much about football. I barely know anything and I don't keep up with it. I don't watch games I don't care.
Speaker 1Right.
Speaker 2But when I play it I enjoy it. I thought I was fast at running, but I'm not as fast as I used to be. I'm actually I. I actually look so stupid when I run. Miles said I run like I got a stick up my butt and I just like straight, straight, run with my spine straight and just like, anyways, we might cut that out, but anyway. So I tried quarterbacking.
Speaker 1Okay, we had someone else playing Quarterbacking, yeah.
Speaker 2We had someone else quarterbacking for the first part of the practice and then we did after that. I was like, let me try. So I tried, I scored a touchdown dubs.
Speaker 1You scored a touchdown. Wait, wait, wait. So did you throw it or did you run it?
Speaker 2I threw it Okay.
Speaker 1Like every you threw a touchdown, Every pass was complete within two downs, we scored.
Speaker 2I was the. I was the first game I did when I quarterbacked.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2I know I've had a good arm, but I just thought I'd probably be rusty. So, however, I shook that rust off and so we went to do the next possession. Yes, so okay. So I don't know how these stats would be said correctly, but I'd from that score. I then scored 10 more times, with only one time that I failed.
Speaker 3So you threw 10 more touchdowns. You threw 10 more touchdowns, I threw 10 more touchdowns, 10 out of 11.
Speaker 210 out of 11. Correct, I did that with only one pass interception from the other team.
Speaker 1No, that's when you did the score.
Speaker 2That's the one I didn't score, but every other time was first down.
Speaker 3All the passes were caught except the one.
Speaker 1That was intercepted by the other team. I literally threw dimes, so they're dots, I guess, as they're called nowadays. So what? All right? So, I mean all right, so there's some skill there for sure. I mean cause, I mean that's impressive, cause you're going up against another team right At this point, like you're not playing against air right, you're just.
Speaker 2We were self practicing.
Speaker 1So like spring games. Okay, so your friends were on defense while you guys were on offense it was like three or four on four. Okay and all right, that's fair, so, okay, so they made you With an all time QB, with an all time on both teams.
Speaker 2Oh, oh, oh, that's how we go back and forth.
Speaker 3Yeah, so you're playing for both teams, got it, and this is just for practice, whatever. Yeah, all right, so I did good oh that's really good. That's really good. 10, yeah, 10 over 11. That's pretty good. That's amazing. Yeah, so it's a great quarterback rating.
Speaker 1And you can't run right For touchdowns, you have to throw it, yeah.
Speaker 2Got it. I don't think I'm as good at running as I used to be Right.
Speaker 1You gotta stick up your butt you have.
Speaker 3Thank you, so in this, in this league of flag football, can they rush the quarterback?
Speaker 2So I don't know.
Speaker 3I'm curious so defense can't rush the quarterback?
Speaker 1Like after a certain time, I know it's like five seconds or something. They can come after you. Standard they can come after you, I don't.
Speaker 2I think the rule is they can't, you can't run unless the they come get you. You comes after you, gotcha.
Speaker 1And they probably have to wait a certain amount of time. It's my guess.
Speaker 2Which that happened one time and I ran past them and scored. Okay, so you did run for touchdown. Oh, you did run for touchdown.
Speaker 3Yeah, once Gotcha. Oh, wow, okay, so that's, that's pretty impressive, john.
Speaker 1Wow, I mean, it's just funny. We were just laughing because you know, quarterback is one of the like you have to be one of the most knowledgeable when it comes to football, to play that.
Speaker 2I mean, I don't know if you agree with that, paul, but it's like oh, you have to be knowledgeable, yeah.
Speaker 3I mean, I definitely think I'll be pulling all the lexies of this world. Who's calling? Are you guys actually say it again?
Speaker 2I think I'll definitely be pulling all the lexies of this world, but specifically the one I have and only her.

Speaker 2Because the quarterback. Nobody calls the plays. Well, I don't know the plays, I just kind of freestyle.

Speaker 2My guys will call plays for me because I don't know plays, and then when I get it, and they're just telling me to throw the ball here.
Speaker 3No, they do the hand thing. They just say I'm going to go like this.
Speaker 2I never understand those.
Speaker 1I don't know, I don't pay attention.
Speaker 2So basically you just throw the ball.
Speaker 3Yeah, and pray, yeah.
Speaker 1Well, I mean, apparently your prayers are working, but your prayers are working yeah.
Speaker 3But you haven't had a full game yet against an opposing team.
Speaker 2No, that's the thing I'm scared of is we're thinking we're so good right now. By the way our team name is Space Monkey Mafia.

Speaker 2It's just what we came up with, and if you guys would have seen all the suggestions that all the homies came up with, some of us might be in jail. Good for you, guys.

Paul is you know and it's also one of the most humble people that I've ever met Not like me, as I was over here just gloating about my quarterback skills, yeah things and he's done a lot of really cool projects. And, paul, there is one specific Project that you are a part of that I'm excited to and I appreciate you being vulnerable and letting us talk about it, because I think that's really cool, but, john, let me ask you a question.

From Football to Full House
Speaker 1So that is the theme song for a show called full house. I know full houses, you know floss, okay with the, with the Olsen twins when they're babies, and all that good stuff and okay anyways. So, it was the show. It was a massive, huge hit. I mean Paul, I mean it was like a world Phenomenon. Right, it was yeah. So it was what in the 90s? Was it late?
Speaker 380s, very late 80s, early 90s. Okay, gotcha.
Speaker 1So huge, huge hit. If anybody has not, they actually made a reboot of it on Netflix recently.
Speaker 2I know our house wasn't it terrible? What for house the new one.
Speaker 3It didn't last long, but I think they stayed on. For what? Three or four seasons.
Speaker 2Yeah, it was long enough. Yeah, okay.
Speaker 1So for anybody listening it was a very family friendly show about these Friends that live together and they had kids and they would just go through life and married?
Speaker 2Huh, were they married?
Speaker 1No, no, these are three, three guys all yeah, they're all just buddies that live together, or did they live together?
Speaker 2They live together. Okay, yeah, and they all had kids Well the dad.

Speaker 1Yeah, just one, but the other two did not right now Jesse, and they did.

Speaker 2Oh, that's right, he had the twins, the twins was there any premarital eye contact or hand-holding in this show?

The second, but Paul is a very, very, very talented. Yeah musician and it's so funny, I could just see him. He's like. He's like cringy guy. No.
Speaker 2I know where he's like. I don't have a good thing say okay, great Thanks. Explain the doctor. Strange moment where he like outer bodies and goes into the thing and then I was like it's just gonna sound dumb.

Speaker 1Yes, so Paul is super talented when it comes to music and a lot of other things too. But so, paul, so talk us through.
Speaker 3So you actually agreed to this, I know Second guess.

Speaker 1So. So Paul grew up. He was very accomplished, taught music Apparently. I just learned that which I didn't know, and so then you moved out to Los Angeles.
Speaker 3That's where I was teaching, that's where you're teaching, okay, so I when I graduated from college Mm-hmm I went to I originally went to California for my master's degree, mm-hmm, and then I ended up teaching while I was out there. Okay, gotcha, and then.
Speaker 1So being out there in the scene, los Angeles scene, how? So again, I'm just letting the cat out of the bag. Paul Was on the show Full House and in the show one of the characters, uncle Jesse. He had a band called Jesse and the Rippers, right.
Speaker 3That's gonna rip her.
Speaker 1So Paul was actually a part of that band and actually traveled and Toured with John Samos was the actor and and they, so we're gonna dive into all that. I'm really excited. That's crazy questions on it. So alright, so Paul talk. Take us through how that whole thing even started, just like it. Was it just some connections that you had made, or how did that start?
Speaker 3So when I came to California, when I went to California, I had a cousin that already lived out there, okay, and his name was Charles and he knew a lot of people. He was a, he was a director, he did a lot of things in Hollywood and stuff like that. That's what he, that's what he did. He, you know he's, he got his start on Broadway and then he moved to California, blah, blah, blah, blah. So when I first got to California, my dad was like told, call my cousin and said you, you, you got to show your cousin around. Now, don't forget, we've never really met, we never grew up together. So I'm pretty sure Charles was thinking, oh, he's a, he's a musician. And you know, I'm sure my cousin was thinking, oh, my gosh, he could be horrible, right, right. And I'm sure he did. I mean, because if my Charles didn't know me, really, right.
Speaker 3But my dad called him and forced him and, you know, threatened him to like get me like legit threatened. No, like you're gonna do this.
Speaker 1Yeah, and.
Speaker 3Charles, I'm sure, is thinking to himself If he's horrible, this is gonna go really bad right my very first gig, I Would lived in California for a week and this is how the whole this goes into, the full house thing.
Speaker 1Okay, got you.
Speaker 3Very first week I went to California. We were doing a benefit, a benefit concert at a church. I don't remember what church it was.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm and a part of full house no.
Speaker 3This is when I first got to Nash, I mean when I first got to Los.
Speaker 1Angeles apartment. We're not a house yet.
Speaker 3So it was a. It was a gig in Hollywood. It was a benefit gig that my cousin was orchestrating Mm-hmm and I was a piano player gonna be the piano player. We were doing all these like Motown hits and stuff like that I didn't know.
Speaker 2You play piano.
Speaker 3Okay, but here's the deal. So on drums was John Stamos.
Speaker 1No, that's when I met him.
Speaker 3So he was a drunk. Now forget, don't forget, full house hadn't started yet, right?
Speaker 1He was, that is.
Speaker 3That is a lackey on General Hospital. Oh, interesting his name on General House was blackie. There's no racial jokes in that whole thing. This is. He was his nickname on general.
Speaker 2We're gonna leave it there, okay, okay, he's.
Speaker 3That's gonna swim in my mind tonight so I met John at At that first gig playing drums, and that's what we kind of like started talking like, hey, what are you? And I Really kind of knew him and didn't know him. I was like, are you a true somebody? Yeah, I think that I think after that gig, me and John, we went to Roscoe's chicken and waffles and hang out a little bit. That's fire, that was nothing.
Speaker 1I mean we. Yeah, was he a pretty cool guy like so cool, so cool.
Speaker 3I mean he was so, you know, I mean all the girls loved him.
Speaker 1Oh, of course had the hair, the whole time.
Speaker 3Yeah, so that you know ended and Shortly thereafter, I mean, we hadn't talked for a while. Yeah, so this is a poppy. A year or so has passed. He now gets the gig at full house. For house wasn't even it, you know. They didn't know how the show was going to do, and then the first came out.
Speaker 3So I didn't even know. So I had moved from where I was living to Woodland Hills and I didn't even know how he actually came to, came into play. I think I saw him around the neighborhood. I'm like, ok, wait a minute, john, where's going on? And he lived around the corner from me.
Speaker 1OK, didn't even know he lived on.
Speaker 3Mulholland Drive.
Speaker 1And.
Speaker 3I lived right off of Mulholland Drive and he literally was walking distance from my house.
Speaker 2Oh, that's a problem.
Speaker 3So we were doing so we kind of reconnected hey, what are you doing? I'm doing the show Go for a while. So yeah, that's the and I didn't really hinting the show, but it was like oh yeah, that's the show with the kids and it goes, yeah. So, that's how it all started.
Speaker 2And that's when.
Speaker 3I kind of reintroduced myself.
Speaker 1So OK, so you kind of you know, reestablish contact there, and then so walk me through kind of what happens, because you actually did appear on. Was it just one?
Speaker 3episode. No, that was, that was four or five.
Speaker 1Four or five. Ok, gotcha, by the way, total side note. Do you still get royalties from that at?
Speaker 3all None. Ok, gotcha no, none at all.
Speaker 2None at all. Do you still know, john Stemus?
Speaker 3You know what? We kind of we haven't talked in years, literally years.
Speaker 1Yeah, so yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3Gotcha Call him.
Speaker 1Yeah, on the podcast.
Speaker 3The podcast. There you go.
Speaker 2That would be a time that would be hilarious.
Speaker 3But no, no, no, so we had. He was doing the show and he comes to me and says oh, you know what they want to write this character, that Jesse, uncle Jesse, is going to start a band on the show.
Speaker 1And we're going to start doing music on the show.
Speaker 3Once you come on the show and do some music with you, part of my band.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 3I was like no.
Speaker 1You see, I literally said no.
Speaker 3Really.
Speaker 2I said you know?
Speaker 3no, no, that's not me. Did that mean you had to be like on camera? On camera, he's in the episodes.
Speaker 2Oh really. You didn't just play oh yeah, you're on the show.
Speaker 3I was on the show. Yeah, visually, visually so that. So there was four or five.
Speaker 1He was handsome.
Speaker 2He looked really he still does.
Speaker 1What are you talking about? Looking right at him, right now Whatever?
Speaker 3There was four or five episodes that we did together on the show. It was a great band and this band you know some guys that I got to meet and got to know and they're really cool guys now. Yeah, but we did four or five episodes and, yeah, that's, that's.
Speaker 1You do the OK. So talk, talk to me about, like how, how was the process of? Because I mean, like you know, we oh, yeah, yeah, oh yeah. You should put on the video portion of that, just just a little clip.
Speaker 3If you don't mind, paul, just a picture. I think you can find a clip or two Sure From a company episode, I don't know.
Speaker 1But OK, so you're. You're a musician, you know you're kind of doing this thing. How was that transition? I'm like, ok, going to a trailer, probably getting makeup and doing all this stuff, like what was that like for you? Like?
Speaker 3there were no trailers. Ok, all of the dressing rooms were in the sound stages, so I would hang out in John's John's dressing room. Got you, that's where I hung out at and all the guys we'd hang out in the dressing room until we got a chance to get on stage. And it was really crazy too, because you know we would have to do the rehearsals, yeah, and it was in front of a live audience.
Speaker 1So when the oh really, when it filmed.
Speaker 3It was in front of a live audience.
Speaker 1Really so. Even the rehearsals, the rehearsals were no audience. Ok, gotcha.
Speaker 3We had to. So when we did an episode, it was an entire week Right. Right so how the episode would go was just the band.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 3I would actually physically play my parts in a studio. Gotcha we record all the parts, all of John's singing, if he was singing on an episode or whatever, right?
Speaker 2John is handsome. I'm looking at him right now.
Speaker 3Yeah, he is, yeah, he's. He's here, he's got the hair he's here you got the hair. So we would, we would crawl the up, and then we would rehearse, we would read throughs you know, we do a read through and then any extras would not have to do the read, that we would come in later for the actual rehearsal because we didn't have part, we wouldn't have speaking words.
Speaker 1Right, right.
Speaker 3And then right after that, then on a Friday night, we'd tape the show.
Speaker 1Oh, OK, interesting, in front of a live audience, wow, so OK, so, so. So you're kind of now, how long had do you been in Los Angeles at this point?
Speaker 3Probably two years, two and a half years at this point.
Speaker 1So did you ever have any thoughts like oh man, like this is, this is my opportunity, like, this is it Like.
Speaker 2this is my chance. I didn't want to do it.
Speaker 1I mean not to not to like be like a movie star or anything, don't be wrong. But like you know, oh man, I'm all the connections I'm going to make from this or whatever it's. It's just going to blossom into other things, like did you ever think that?
Speaker 3wasn't even thinking about, it, wasn't even thinking about it. Because I didn't, I didn't really I mean it? Was just I was. I was doing it because John asked me to do it.
Speaker 1Gotcha. So so he was a buddy. He was a buddy.
Speaker 3He was like come on, let's do this. That I did it. I mean I had other things that I was doing, doing outside of that. Anyway, I already kind of working on some stuff.
Speaker 1OK, but this was just something on the side, some car, something to do, gotcha, so OK, so the. So you do a couple episodes, the show just explodes.
Speaker 3I mean just we were doing these episodes, the show was had already taken.
Speaker 1OK, so it already taken off. It's already worldwide huge and everything. Yeah, so OK. So then you know, you start doing that and then does, does John or Jesse and the Rippers? I guess in this point did they start putting out singles or anything like that.
Speaker 3No, we didn't do anything like that because it wasn't like it was today where you could do a digital single. Everything was still physical. So, you know, there was no record labels involved, but what we did do is we actually went on tour. Oh, people don't realize that Jesse and the Rippers actually went on a real tour. You did too, oh, I was with them yeah.
Speaker 2Wow.
Speaker 3So, and it was crazy we would do these tours and we would have to do them like during his hiatus in the show. So we would do 10 city pockets, 10 cities, another 10 cities, another you know 20 cities or whatever, and we would do the. And this is, this is how I knew the powerful. I didn't even know because I really didn't watch the show.
Speaker 1Right, right.
Speaker 3I didn't when all those episodes that I was on. I never watched the episodes Really. No, I didn't, I never. I would have watched them three times Never watched it. My mom taped him. I never watched it Really, but with the power of the show and I realized how big the show was, we would actually play stadiums. Now, if you can imagine the Rolling Stones plays stadiums, the Michael Jackson plays stadiums, when they said Jesse and the Rippers were coming, he filled the stadium.
Speaker 1So they were selling out.
Speaker 2Oh gosh, you would perform in a stadium. Yeah, that's so cool.
Speaker 3I mean, that's when I realized okay this full house thing is insane.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's like pandemonium. It was like it was crazy.
Speaker 3It was almost like the way I can related to. If you go back back back in the 60s, early 70s, the Partridge family was a musical TV show, Right, but David Cassidy was a real singer who would go on tour when the show was not on and he was doing stadiums, he was doing big arenas and that's the only way I could relate it to was like a David Cassidy. Were you nervous in front of all the people? No, because I was just playing the piano.
Speaker 1Yeah, he didn't have to talk. He didn't have to talk. I think I sang a song.
Speaker 3That was it. I think each person in the band sang a solo.
Speaker 1Oh really, Do you remember what song you?
Speaker 3had to sing.
Speaker 1I totally do, I'm not telling you oh come on.
Speaker 3I'm not telling you.
Speaker 2Oh, okay, I heard you rap.
Speaker 3My song was an Ohio player song called Fire.
Speaker 1Oh, interesting. Okay, that was my song Fire. No, that's not it, but I'm sorry, but is that the Rollercoaster? That's the same band.
Speaker 3Same band, right? This was a song called Fire, Okay gotcha.
Speaker 1So okay, so that is wild. So do you have a favorite memory or some kind of cool thing?
Speaker 2that happened backstage or even on stage.
Speaker 1Maybe something cool happened. Any memories?
Speaker 2from that Iconic moments. Yeah, iconic moments. I mean honestly just playing in a stadium in itself is iconic.
Speaker 3Well, iconic moments.
Speaker 2Anything specific.
Speaker 3You know it's crazy, not really specifically. I mean, I think the funnest times for me were going on tour, was going to different cities. And just kind of like you know, meeting people and stuff like that. I mean the most, the best part that I loved about it. I mean his mom was the sweetest person in the world. Oh really, and she would go on tour with us oh cool and I get to meet his mom and we talked all the time His mom passed away.
Speaker 3I guess, so you know, five, six, seven years ago now, but she was amazing.
Speaker 1She was so cool.
Speaker 3I mean, that was my fondest memory and, of course, the guys would always try to do stuff.
Speaker 2Isn't that interesting that his favorite memory of all of that was just having a real nice connection yeah. With a meaningful someone who listened.
Speaker 3I'm sure Her mom was absolutely amazing.
Speaker 2That's cool and you played in a stadium and that's his favorite memory. That's cool, yeah, yeah, no, that's cool. Hey, that mom made an impact on you.
Speaker 1She was just really nice, yeah, so that's what I'm saying Before doing the stadium tour well, first of all, did you guys ever travel internationally? No, okay, so you used all the states.
Speaker 3It was all okay, you know we did state fairs, we did all that kind of stuff. Arkansas, we went everywhere. Yeah, we went everywhere.
Speaker 1Okay, so you're doing that. So, before doing that, what was like one of the bigger you know venues that you had played before jumping into a stadium tour?
Speaker 3Yeah, had you done anything? That was the first thing. That was the first big thing, the first big thing, and other things came out of that later on in life.
Speaker 2But that was the first big. Did anything later in life be bigger than that?
Speaker 1There was some bigger thing. Yeah, maybe we can save that for another. We won't go there.
Speaker 3But that was a bigger thing no way.
Speaker 1There was some bigger things. No, man, that's so cool. Okay, so you do this. So how long was this whole duration of shooting to going on tour? How long did all that last Like? What was the time span of that?
Speaker 3You figure the show was like a season or two off and on and then the tour things off and on. Maybe a total of two years total.
Speaker 1Okay, okay, gotcha. Two and a half years total, that's a pretty big commitment yeah yeah, and then, and so during all this time, you were still working on, like other projects and doing other things. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 3I mean this was so if I would have say things that came out of this, you know I did, you know I had other you know things going on and I don't know if it came directly out of this position, but I was in a position to meet a lot of people.
Speaker 1Yeah, of course.
Speaker 3And from that came other stuff. Gotcha, that's beautiful.
Speaker 1So how was the okay? So you know, bringing some like cool redeeming value to this. So, even though I think it's super cool just to learn this, what a cool story and what a cool experience.
Speaker 3You taught me.
Speaker 1No, and I do have to say Paul was very, very reluctant to do this, just cause he's so humble and he's just, you know but, I, oh good.
Speaker 2You know it's crazy. I have, no, I have no hard time believing that that is not the coolest of things he's done.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, I know, I know, but no, it's so.
Speaker 1I appreciate you sharing it cause I think this is super cool. So you we were talking earlier and you were Christian, you know, you came to really know the Lord personally, more towards middle school, high school or whatever. So during this whole time you were, you know, saved, living out in LA and all that good stuff. So how, how was that? You know? Cause I think a lot of people jumped to the conclusion or the thought okay, well, it's LA. You know, it's probably a lot of compromising and all that kind of stuff. What was it like being a Christian, kind of walking through all this, or your experience in that?
Speaker 3I mean, it was, I was just, I was just doing, I was just being me. I mean I didn't really get into any of that stuff. I mean I rather I was the guy that kind of stayed in the hotel room and kind of just chilled while the other guys were partying and doing their stuff.
Speaker 1And that was fine for them, but that wasn't for me.
Speaker 3That just wasn't for me, and they always tried to like I'm sure they did they tried to like set me up in a whole bunch of different ways, but it never worked.
Speaker 2That's crazy. It never worked. What a real dude. Never folding, that's, I know it literally.
Speaker 3I mean they were. They were always trying to like get some girl to knock on my door and stuff like that. That's wild and set them up and set me up and they just wanted to, just wanted to see me, you know, and Well, I think when we were talking about it, it's like they just wanted to get you right. They wanted to get me. It was like got your moment and I was like, yeah, no, Like see, yeah, you can fold, right yeah. Yeah, I was like no, this is not for me.
Speaker 1Well, but you know what that's interesting? Because that right there, just by not compromising, is a huge testimony, right. I mean, like that, you showed them. It's like man, this dude really is serious about his commitment to the Lord. And you know, and while we're out doing this, and you know, it's one of those things where you know you may have not seen the fruit of that or whatever, but that's, that's noticed, right? I mean that.
Speaker 3I mean, I mean, I was. There was no judgment on what they were doing or anything. No, no, no, I'm just giving you props.
Speaker 2I just think it's awesome.
Speaker 1Well, first that you did that, but then also second, you know, I think a lot of people focus on the not not saying you were persecuted in the sense, but the persecution as far as like, okay, well, hey, this person's not doing what we're doing, so we're going to give them a hard time, we're going to try to get them, but I probably had a lot to do with why they were doing it.
Speaker 3I think there's just a lot of just wanted to see what I was going to do. See my reaction. Yeah, but I had more probably resistance before I even left to go to California. Because like you know, and being in Buffalo just doing the things that I was doing there. You know, homer Rick James. So, you know, being in the studio with a lot of his people back in the day, a lot of things, you saw a lot of this And-.
Speaker 2Another podcast? Maybe not, and that's a whole other thing.
Speaker 3And then when I was in high school, you know my mom. So I auditioned to be in this band and I made it. Okay, I made this band and I was in high school and I wasn't really supposed to go to audition because I was so young, but I wanted to go anyway. I was like I got auditioned for this band, audition for the band the band had had. They were, they had been around for a long, long time but they just got their first big hit, which I'll tell you in a second. You'll know what it is Okay. So they're like hold her. You tell them, hold her.
Speaker 3I was I think I was 16 when I made the band 17, something like that, and so we're going to come to your house and talk to your mom.
Speaker 1And I'm like this is not going to work.
Speaker 3It's not going to go well.
Speaker 1Like I know all along.
Speaker 3So the band came over to the house. My mom could tell you the story better than I can, but she you know. The band came in, she talks to them and they're all there and the band is cool in the gang. No way.
Speaker 1Are you serious?
Speaker 3I made cool in the gang. Okay, so the song that just came out with celebration.
Speaker 1Oh, my God.
Speaker 3It had just come out. Are you serious? Just come out what? And?
Speaker 1where we celebrate good times. Come on, dude, oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2Song had just come out and they had several hits after celebration that I could have been a part of. I thought that was Earthland, and Fire.
Speaker 1That was cool in the gang. No, cool in the gang.
Speaker 3So we're at the house and they're like hey, well, you know, we're going to take your son make the band. We really want them in the band.
Speaker 2Those people were at your house.
Speaker 3They came to the house because they had to talk to my mom. I said you kid, I'm talking to my mom. I'm only 16, 17, 17 years old. Oh my God, you guys talk to my mom. My mom was like you're not going in this band.
Speaker 2You're not doing it.
Speaker 3I probably made the right call. High insight, she will say she made the right call, I she keeps going you would have been a drug addict, you would have been this, and I'm like I wouldn't have done any of that. I don't think you would have been a drug addict, I wouldn't have done any of this stuff. It's just, oh, you don't know that and I'm like, yeah, I do.
Speaker 3But I was trying to talk her into letting me do this. She ended up like you can travel with them. She was like no, I'm not doing it, you can't do it. You got to go to high school. You got to finish. You got to go to college. You got to get a degree and that's it.
Speaker 2Oh really, she made you go to college.
Speaker 3I wanted to go, but I wanted to go.
Speaker 1So I have a nine year old son and I'm just trying to put myself in her shoes of like, imagining my 16 year old son coming up to me and like one of the at that point, one of the most popular bands in the world. Like is in my living room saying hey, we want your son to come on tour with us. I'm just saying I could completely understand what she's saying.
Speaker 3She said a big, big no yeah.
Speaker 1Right, so just asking. Just ask like do you ever like oh man, that would've been really cool Like you know that would be.
Speaker 3Well, here's the deal. It would've been very, very cool, because the guy that took my place, he's not really a friend of mine, but I know him, we're friends on Facebook and stuff like that. He's also from Buffalo, okay, yeah, so to see his life. I can see his life through Facebook To see what he's doing. He still travels, the gang.
Speaker 1Really yeah.
Speaker 3To this very day. Okay, so, yeah, so he stuck with them, for he was the second runner up.
Speaker 1Wow, oh, my goodness that is why so I? Didn't know that. I never knew that.
Speaker 3That's interesting. Yeah, he was the second runner up. All that to say. That's the kind of crazy stuff that you could actually. That's why my mom didn't want me to.
