Dr. Barbara Green's journey from experiencing rejection to founding a nonprofit organization presents a masterclass in turning personal pain into powerful purpose. This conversation reveals how compassion for others can become the driving force behind meaningful community transformation.

Growing up in Mississippi, Dr. Green felt the sting of being overlooked and unsupported. Rather than letting these experiences defeat her, she channeled them into creating By Faith Global Ministry in 2008. "I know what it feels like to face challenges without support," she shares, explaining why she committed to empowering communities in both Mississippi and Georgia. Her approach focuses on transforming mindsets first—helping people recognize their inherent value and capability before addressing material needs.

The heart of Dr. Green's philosophy emerges when she defines empowerment: "It means helping people see the strength and value they already have inside them." This perspective shifts the traditional charity model toward sustainable change, as she works to nurture confidence and self-belief in those she serves. For anyone feeling called to make a difference but unsure where to begin, her advice is refreshingly practical: look inward to identify what moves you emotionally, then take small steps in that direction rather than attempting to solve everything at once.

Throughout our conversation, Wanda Pearson reveals the Four C's that guide both her 44-year marriage and community work: Communication, Commitment, Compromise, and Consideration. These principles establish a framework for healthy relationships and effective collaboration that listeners can apply immediately to their own lives. Barbara's work with vision boards demonstrates the transformative power of visualization—from helping a young woman pursue her CNA certification to manifesting a free bus for her ministry's transportation needs.

Dr. Green's latest book, "Never Feel Rejected Again," extends her mission to help others overcome the pain of rejection that often prevents people from realizing their potential. Connect with her through SerenityPrayerMinistry.org, ByFaithGlobalMinistry.org, or NeverFeelRejectedAgain.com to discover how you can transform your own challenges into purpose-driven action.

Dr. Barbara Green's Empowerment Journey

Speaker 2

She is an experienced minister, leader and trainer, and she equips others to grow spiritually in leadership. I love that, dr Barbara, because you said it. This is right up my alley. This is exactly what I do as far as educating and empowering people, but thank you so much for being on this podcast. Thank you, it is truly an honor. Let's get down to some of the questions I want to ask you here. Dr Barber, can you share your journey? What inspired you to start your nonprofit and step into the role of empowering communities?

Speaker 3

Yes, I sure can. I want to say Dr Wanda as well, but I am just so thankful here to be able to share with you. I started a nonprofit in 2008, and it's called by Faith Global Ministry, and the ministry started as because I'm one of those ones that does a lot of outreach and concern about people and situations. It's just like more of a what you call a help ministry. Some of the things I'm, of course, from Mississippi and what I saw there was like, oh God, wherever I go, I told the people, I will never forget my hometown. I will do whatever I need to do to come back and empower my people, and even though I'm here in Georgia, I do the same thing.

Speaker 3

But Mississippi is my heart, because I know what it feels like to be overlooked, rejected and to face challenges without the support that I needed, and I just didn't want them to have to go through the same thing that I went through. Instead of letting those experiences break me, they gave me a compassion for others who were struggling, and this is how this was birthed out, because I didn't want them to feel the way that I did or the things that I went through without having any resources. This is how the nonprofit was birthed, through the Holy Spirit to help those to be empowered with the way they're to think, because the thing is the mindset. That's the main thing we need to be. Really, I want to empower the mindset. You know, if you can be whatever you want to be, you have to put your mind to it to do it. I don't care what environment, what region you live in, but you can do all things through Christ which strengthen you. That was one of the things that really have helped me and it's still going strong as of today.

Speaker 2

Oh, I love it, I love it. That's my favorite verse too. I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me, and also Jeremiah 29, 11. Yes, yeah, I love it. That's actually on the back of my book that I told my daughter that on the back of my book. Jeremiah 29, 11, having hope in the future and won't harm. Those are such powerful words, but no, that is. That's powerful. What does empowerment mean to you personally and why is this critical in the work you do?

Speaker 3

It's important to me because empowerment to me means helping people see the strength and value that they already have on the inside of them. All the time it's there, but they need someone to just push them and nudge them a little bit and say you know what? You are somebody, you are valuable, but you have to sometimes have to push them, because someone had to push me, because I didn't realize I had all the things that I have in me, that God had given me. I had no idea that this was in me, but I had to have somebody to push me through this until it just was like oh my God, this is what's in me. That's what it means for me to have to empower those that have so many gifts, so many talents, but they are.

Speaker 3

Some of them doesn't know. Some may know, but they are afraid to get out there. Like I was afraid to get out there because I didn't know what it was going to look like. But that's one of the things that I want to do continue to empower, and I love it. I enjoy it because I was one of them. If I could just help one person, this would be. I'll know that my living is not in vain.

Speaker 2

Absolutely and I agree with that. That is true, because I was pushed to. I actually I worked at my first job out of college with Mercedes Benz.

Speaker 2

And I said okay, lord, I want to get back into what I went to school for, which is social work. I worked in Job Corps, job Corps counseling the girls that actually got in trouble, whatever. And I told I asked God, if I can just get through two of these girls that will make me happy. And they were actually two of the toughest girls. I am so proud that I actually saw one of them. That actually was a dental assistant and she remembered me. She called me by my maiden name. First I didn't know who she's talking about because I had already been married, but it just gives you joy to see that you have helped somebody. And, dr Barbara, I am proud of you as far as and like you said push, even like writing the book. I was pushed from one of my clients that said Wanda, god told me to call you.

Speaker 1

I said okay, what'd he say?

Speaker 2

I'm not going to disobey God and I tell this story? Was Dr actually seen the quote? She said Wanda, god asked me, told me to tell you to be in this book which. I love the title, which is called Audacity to Shine. That was my first time being in a collaboration and the title was just Audacity to Shine. Exactly what you do.

Speaker 2

we all have the audacity to shine and I tell the girls, those who feel like they can't do anything in life you have the audacity to shine. So that was always my verse there, so I'm sorry. Let's get back on the segment. Oh my God, that's awesome. That is awesome. That is amazing. So what advice would you give someone who feels called to make a difference but doesn't know where to start?

Speaker 3

You know what I went through that as well. First of all, of course, you definitely need to pray and ask God to help you for those that does that. But then you have to begin to look inward. Okay, what's on the inside of me that will move me? What can I do?

The Meaning of True Empowerment

Speaker 3

Because some people, if you have that compassion dealing with maybe the homeless or whoever it is, whatever it is and if that thing is just shaking you like making you want to move, then that's what you need to do. Then you don't have to step out, try to lunge out into the deep so quickly, but what you can do is begin to take one small step towards that way you are feeling and that's what I had to do, because I had no idea what was going on, but I knew I had compassion for those that are in need, those that are struggling, those that are weary, all the different things. I know I have a help ministry. I just thought I'd just start helping and now this thing is just at a level like oh my God, because I started with the way, with the compassion and the love that I have towards people, and I just took it one step at a time, Absolutely.

Speaker 2

And that's what God meant for you to do, for me to do. And we were talking about affirmations, because a lot of people don't believe in themselves, but affirmations is such a big thing here and that's what I do with my mentoring group that I'm in. They call me Affirmation Queen. That's awesome. Hearing affirmations makes a big difference in people's lives. They could be having a bad day that day and you just don't know. Something that you said can actually say oh, I can do that too. It makes a big difference as far as that. And then you're leaving a legacy. I have four grand, I have two daughters and I have four granddaughters. Helping them to understand that. Do not be stuck in where you think you are the negativity. And nowadays, dr Barbara in the schools, the negativity. And nowadays, dr Barbara in the schools, bullying and stuff that's going on.

Speaker 3

We need what you have, we need what we're doing here, because it really makes a difference to say you are someone right, yes, absolutely.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it really makes a big difference. Yeah, I get one of these tangents when you talk about stuff like that.

Speaker 3

As far as so, yeah, this is really my heart, this is my passion. It's just, oh, my God, I just it's a passion, it's something God has given me and I just, I don't even want to get away from it, because it's a gift that I see and God get all the glory.

Speaker 2

It's just oh my God, yeah, he really does. It's like you don't know what you're doing and what I'm doing to be able to help people, encourage people, makes a big difference, and that with that said, how do you personally stay encouraged and motivated by encouraging others?

Speaker 3

Oh, my God, that's a great question right there, because even in some time you just have to encourage yourself. You can't wait for anyone else to encourage you, like David did in the Bible. He encouraged himself in the Lord. What I would do is practice self-compassion. I have to acknowledge that.

Speaker 3

Your own struggles, I had struggles, setbacks, and I use those things as opportunities to grow and to learn. And even though, when that discouragement come and all those different things come, I say you know what? What is my why? Why am I doing this? When I think about that, what is my why? They're like okay, it's a reason why I have to do this here. No matter what the discouragement come, then I must acknowledge and celebrate. We have to celebrate our progress, I don't care how small it is. We need to also maintain a positive mindset. That is key because in discouragement it doesn't take much for the negative thought to come in there, because anyway, discouragement is a negative thought anyway. But you can get into that thing and say you know what? I'm going to encourage myself, no matter what I just to be able to do that, for me to continue to be able to motivate others. I got to personally stay encouraged myself and that's exactly what I try to do.

Speaker 1

And now a message about our sponsor.

Four C's of Communication

Or check out our show notes. One wrong word can actually take you in another direction. It can take you somewhere else. I have these four C's that I talk about Me and my husband. We've been married 44 years, august 29th, oh, congratulations.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

I said there are four C's, not only just with a marriage, but also in relationships, business too. But communication you have to be able to communicate right.

Speaker 2

So as we go through what you're going through, you have to be able to communicate right. So, as we go through what you're going to, you have to have that person to communicate with you. Commitment how do you commit to be able to stay focused on what you're doing? Compromise, compromising everybody don't agree with you. Compromise that you do, and consideration being considerate. Those are my four c's. There are actually more four c, there are actually more c's, but but those are four C's that can help you and the person you're talking to. As far as what we do, as far as the mentoring and helping people that's out there.

Speaker 2

The communication is a big key to understand how I can help you.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it really makes a big difference and that commitment being committed to do, to stay with the program or whatever you have doing, that's what we do as far as the mentoring group that I'm in, and that compromising and that consideration. So what do you say about those four, barbara?

Speaker 3

Oh, my God, I just I love all four of them, like number one, especially communication. You know what we have to communicate. Nobody can read, nobody mind communicate. And then sometimes you got to know when to communicate. You may not be able to communicate, you just have to know the time to communicate. But communication is key. We must communicate and we just I love all four of the c's. I really do they are yeah, yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I came up with those. I told we have them on the refrigerator. I asked my okay, what are the four c's?

Speaker 3

but it's not just in relationship, but it's also in your business as well. I asked my husband okay, what are the four C's? That's awesome, that is awesome.

Speaker 2

But it's not just in relationship, but it's also in your business as well, as you're doing your business, as you're speaking. Those are the four C's that you can come up with other ones, but that helps you to stay focused on what God's purpose is for you to do, and it really does matter. Let me ask you something here and we can get more into it, but I tell you, this is fast. I got so much more to ask you here. What legacy do you hope to leave through your work and your voice?

Speaker 3

Well, that's another great question because it is amazing, because we have three sons. Right, my husband and I have three sons and the ministry that God allows me to do is I work at Mississippi as well, as well as Georgia, and whatever I need, because we do a lot of outreach, taking things there food, whatever the case may be and they are supportive in helping me to do whatever I need to do. When there are disaster things of that nature. They also support financially. They just go if I need them to take this place, take this, that place. They drive even all the way to Mississippi. When I get fruits and vegetables to take to Mississippi, they are there as my legacy that I'm leaving here on behalf of my children, my husband as well, but my children they see how I move, how God does things. They have caught on to this thing.

Speaker 3

I'm leaving that legacy for my three grown men because they are moving and shaking and whenever I ask a question, I'm leaving that legacy for my three grown men because they are moving and shaking and whenever I ask a question, I'm like, okay, I need help here, because I have a nonprofit organization, bi-faith Global Ministry, and my son they celebrated my birthday a couple weeks ago and so he got up to speak because he's one of the ones that helps all the time. He's like, yeah, I'm just going to, yeah, I need to get my mom and son for her buffet blow with a ministry nonprofit. He was asking them y'all need to donate to her, but that was just a blessing for them to. But they help all the time to make sure and I know they would carry their legacy on and I have a ministry in Mississippi called Unity in the Community and I can see them carrying it on as well when I'm going on.

Building Stronger Communities Through Collaboration

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's awesome. Actually, that was my next question about your. Nonprofit is rooted in the community empowerment. Yes, what are some of the biggest needs in communities today?

Speaker 3

Okay, oh my God, the biggest need that I see in the community is, first of all, to educate. We know they need the food, the clothing and all these different things here, but my thing is education and jobs and to help them to get educated, to get some kind of skills and we're going to do college fairs and to come in so that they can go in and get an education. Because even if we just continue to give, give without empowering them and just educating them like, okay, you can get a trade, you can get some skills here, you can just go through this and a lot of free programs, a lot of resources out there, but you got to go ahead and do that and come out of that poverty mentality. And my thing is let's get this mindset together here, because we got to, you got to move forward, but you got to move forward, but you got to make some things happen as well. That's what I want to see. I've seen some results, but I want to see more than what we see, because sometimes we can handicap when we give, give, give. But I want to give the right thing the tools of educating them and strategies, plans on what you need to do. What are your goals? What are your plans?

Speaker 3

I did a vision board one time. One young girl in Mississippi, young lady in Mississippi. I gave her a vision board and she went and she I bought it and she finished a vision board before I left Mississippi and what she had on her vision board it came to pass Okay and she worked there and I was so proud of her. It was a CNA and I was proud of her. But you know, with that mindset we got to set our mindset Some positive things and things that you know no matter where you are.

Speaker 2

Now you don't have to stay in that place, absolutely, I love it, I love it and I love Vision Boys, because me and my family, our woman, the girls, women in our family.

Speaker 2

We did a Vision Boy and I just be cutting out stuff and then I just put them on there and then when I finish it, I'm like, oh my god, this is. I may have a section for spiritual, I have a section for travel, I have a section for inspiration and I look at it and you're right, I've been doing it since actually about five or six years and I look at it now. I do one every year and this is what I've accomplished already. I didn't know, I didn't, I just put it on, I just put it on the board.

Speaker 3

I'm telling you it's amazing. It is amazing and you know what. I even have one affirmation, an affirmation vision board I do. And I remember one year that I did a vision board and I put this bus on there, that I need a bus because I travel a lot and I take a lot of things and I need the bus. And guess what, somebody called me and said they had a free bus. But yeah, just things like that. I love it and I don't want to get all poor in here, but no, I love it.

Speaker 2

That's a good idea. Do an affirmation vision board that's going to be that's going to be my next board.

Speaker 3

I have a confirmation. I have a confirmation. I put it right by my bed. I am whatever and it just, oh, it just light up something in me. It's time for me to do some more. I'm going to get back on.

Speaker 2

I love it, I love it, and we usually do that with the mentoring girls that we actually have.

Speaker 1

That's something good.

Speaker 2

Now last question that we get is how can collaboration play in the role of building stronger, healthier communities?

Speaker 3

Okay, what we can do is for its collaboration with health is coming together here. But first of all, okay, for instance, you know what God has called you to do, I know what God has called me to do. We all can come together and collaborate on that and that's going to build that community. We're not trying to take nothing from nobody. Everybody's coming together to pull together, work together for one common cause and once we do that, if you are a seamster, then that's your area. If I am the cook, or whatever the case may be, then that's what I do. We come together, pull all that together and in the community and everybody come together and we enjoy, and it'll be such an impact if we could all come together for one common cause.

Speaker 2

I love that. I love that because we all need each other, and my key is always collaboration is the key to success. That's how we become successful by collaborating with each other here. What are some initiatives or programs you are most excited about right now? I know you're excited about a lot, but which ones are you?

Never Feel Rejected Again

Speaker 3

You know what? The thing that I have now because of a deal with rejection. I just launched a new book out on rejection here, and not only that, the podcast came along with that as well, and that's something that I'm really super excited about right now to launch that out and get it out, because rejection is a real deal, and so that's one of the things. Also just so many other things, but I'll just focus on that right now and yeah, no, exactly that's what I want you to tell us about.

Speaker 2

Tell us about your book and how people can get in touch with you as far as your book as well.

Speaker 3

Okay, the book is and I just I can tell you all exactly how you can get in touch with me with the book and it's actually started from because I've gone through rejections.
