86: Vacay Recap, Febrile Seizures, Glamping, Family Updates and MORE!
Welcome back. This is Anna and Calissa and Sarah. So we got a lot of, uh, catching up to do a little bit about our recent vacations and whatnot. Mm-hmm. And then pop culture. Mm-hmm. Because we love pop culture here. We do. Yes. So, oh, what were you gonna say? Oh, I was gonna, I just start off with a question, which is kind of my, my thing that I, the only thing that I can think of to talk about, do you ever feel guilty for like, using services? Yeah. No. What kind of service? But yeah, like I texted my car mechanic this morning. Ah. And I was like, Hey, can I get my car in? And I just feel like I'm asking again this hugest favor. Yes, uhoh. Yeah. Melissa is on the hunt for a new vehicle. No, I'm not. Yeah, she is. I am not. You see a good one, send it her way. Yeah. Everyone sender car references needs to fit 15 people camping gear. Maybe pull a camper. Um, bicycles. Oh yeah. True. Yes. Um, but yeah. Do you ever feel guilty for that? Yes. Like texting your Yes. Yes. Mm-hmm. Sorry to bother, but, and it's like, it's their job's, their job. Yeah. But sometimes even if I'm sending like an email and it's outside of office hours, I'm like, Ooh, sorry. You're gonna get this when you're hot. Yeah. I feel like it depends on like what time of day, like at midnight or like 3:00 AM Oh my gosh. I for, before I forget, I love the send later feature. Yes. That's my. Oh, I don't use that. I don't know what that is. Oh, and oh, it's on iPhone. So you can feature, yep. You can type up a text and then you hit send later and you change the time of when it wants to send or what date you wanna do. So like mm-hmm. If you wanna be the first one to wish someone happy birthday, oh, that's never made, but I do know that. I have heard that, but I just didn't realize that was a thing right now. Still. Mm-hmm. Okay. Yep. I did it with my mother-in-law.'cause she's like, okay, don't let me forget. And I'm like, oh bitch, you should have said that because it was like almost every 30 minutes. I was like, don't forget, don't forget, don't forget. And I all hit like, send later, send later, send later. That's funny. So she was just getting a plethora of text messages. That's hilarious. Love it. But you can delete them too, like if you're like, I don't wanna send it. You just delete. But like the bubble, it's not a solid bubble. It's just like a dotted bubble. Yes. Has like a dot. That would be good.'cause usually I do forget and so then I gotta do it right then. Yeah. So you could do it for Calvin. Like, oh my gosh, I hope he doesn't forget that one thing. But like you're, you know, you're gonna be like, that's in school. You can just hit a, yeah.'cause he'll say like, oh, I'll say something. Something like, do this on your way home from Juujitsu and be like, okay, text me when I'm on my way. And I'm like, dude, now you're putting the remembrance on me. I'm reminding you right now. Yes. Yeah. Try the end feature. Okay. Okay. I will. And let us know if you do it too. Yes. Or if you're feel guilty asking for basic human services. Probably, I'll forget to use it if I'm honest, or like if I need to change an appointment time at the doctor, it's like, I'm really sorry but I need to change this time. I don't send it later. Don't think the worst thing is like asking someone like, Hey, like whatever. I think the worst Oh. Um, coming from my point of view for being in the service industry mm-hmm. Is when people want something fixed.'cause they don't like it. Mm. Hey, I don't like my haircut. Can we like, you know something? Yeah. Like, I don't like the way you did my eyelashes. I don't like the way my nails look. Yeah. People have a hard time like doing that. Oh, I would never. Yeah, I would just find someone else. Yeah. And a lot of people do. Yeah. They'll just go somewhere else or just, yeah. Okay. I've done it. By the way, later, I'm gonna send him a text message on August 19th at 12:00 AM for fun. You're gonna wake up and be like, who's texting him at this hour? Probably. Yeah. Yeah. Funny. Okay. What were you saying? Sorry. She feels more guilty, like if there's something incorrect, like with her nail house or her hair, and I was like, well, I would never send that text message. Yeah, I would. I would never, I would suffer in silence, but a lot of people don't. So then like hairstylists were like, no, please let us know because. I'm not gonna be mad at you. Like, I just wanna know, like, you know, what I could do or what I fix. Mm-hmm. But a lot of people feel like, oh, they're gonna be so mad at me, and well, you know. Yeah. A conflict. Yeah. Yeah. Are you talking about your toenails? Yeah. I wanted checkered like a, like a vans mm-hmm. Checkered. And they just, it looks like a little cross almost. Kind of, yeah. Which it's cute. It's just not. I like the color, but like I am like I'll just live with it and not look at my toes. Yeah. I mean, how often do you look at your toes? All the time. Summer. Oh yeah. But you're like actively looking at your toes. Yeah. I loved looking at my cherries. I to the last toenail, um, design I had was chairs and they were so cute. I had so many compliments on them. Even when I went to the pool, all these little kids were like, I like your toenails. I'm like, thank you. And now I'm just like, oh God, no. One look at my feet. It's funny. You can mean you can always go somewhere else and get'em removed. I know. But the thing is, if you go back to the place, it's usually no charge. Yeah. Oh. Then like people pay double. Mm-hmm. I would rather pay, I would pay triple to not have a conversation. Do you wanna avoid the conflict or do you wanna like get it fixed? Exactly. Yeah. So that's what, just what I notice is it gel. Can you remove it yourself? No, I need a drill. Okay. Mm-hmm. It's a stinker. So, uh, let me know if it's really hard to go back to like a lash stylists. Mm-hmm. This is partially why I don't do services. Mm, mm-hmm. Like, I can't handle that. And like, I only get my haircut like twice a year.'cause I just also, I'm lazy about haircuts, but yeah. Like, what if you don't like it? Then what? What if you get like permanent makeup? Oh my God. Oh my gosh. Once you get permanent makeup and then you don't like it. That's why I'll never get permanent makeup. Never. But they say it's the worst. It's awful because it fades and so like, it like, oh my gosh. It looks like it's smeared and Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I just can't, I don't know. Yeah, I am a makeup, I'm a makeup, no commitment kind of gal. I'm a makeup free queen this summer. Me too. I've just literally not been wearing anything. Good for you. I, I can't even remember the last time I did my makeup. I mean, your face looks great. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. So that's good. Yeah. Uh, Craig says he prefers me without makeup, and I'm like, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Done. I mean, he looks at you the most. Yes. Well, maybe, maybe, probably not. But he looks at you a lot. Yeah. Yeah. Now we're like all looking at me. Oh, sorry. Don't look at me. Don't, we were just talking about, um, doing services at home, which maybe we, I don't know if anybody else does this, let us know. But yeah, so because I like to do like the most minimal makeup, like, I like to like fluff my eyebrows. Isn't that crazy? That's what you turned into My lash. What? We used to be, Hannah and I, we've been friends for a while. This is 2016? Yeah. Oh yeah. And we were very much into like, it was thick. She had Maia like dip row eyebrows, and I had like full, well you did too. Full foundation. Like Matt, she used to do like winged eyeliner. No, I never did Winged, I did did Dow. I did the shadow. Okay. I might have done an eyeshadow, she did eyelashes. And I'm just like. This is too much work. Well, how can I get away with the least amount of stuff possible? Mm-hmm. Yeah. And then 2020 happened. Yeah. Everyone was into skincare. Yeah.'cause we're like, oh, we're not leaving the house. Yeah. So then skincare just boomed. Yeah. And now it's like very minimal makeup. Mm-hmm. And Nick and I were just at the Mall of America. I'm looking at all these cute little tweens. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Very minimal. Mm-hmm. It's mostly just their skin and eyelashes. I mean, fake eyelashes are huge. Yeah. So all of them had it. But I like the minimal look. Like I said, I like to fluff my brows. Mm-hmm. Curl my lashes and then maybe just wear like a tinted like sunscreen moisturizer. Mm-hmm. But, um, I was just telling Sarah before you got here, I was like, I think I might wanna do some of that permanently myself. Well not send me semi-permanent semi. So we were looking at like kits. I was looking at a lamination kit and then I had, I bought some men's beard dye. So I can like, you know them, try for eyebrows. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Just make'em look a little thicker. Yeah. So I'm gonna try it after my dentist appointment. And I am also, I've just bought them all as well. So you bought the lamination kit. My bread maker was on sale, like$40 off and so I was like, oh. So I just bought it. Then I was like, might as well get the other stuff too. Whatever. So don't tell Calvin. Don't tell Calvin. We're on a little bit of a spending spree and we need to cool it. And I would say the opposite. I ordered one thing off of Amazon last month and it was a trampoline net. Oh,'cause our trampoline. Sorry. Yeah. And that was it. Wow. So I was, yeah. Super impressed. You're obviously very fulfilled in your home life right now. Yeah. Good for you. Content. Oh, bless you. Content. Until camping comes around. Until camping comes around. I don't know. We're kind of off the camper right now. Really? Really? Yeah. Why? Well, we just realized like we don't know how to hook anything up. I don't know how to level anything. Do you have a YouTube and a Google and a chat? GPT? Sometimes it's nice to have someone be like, oh no, this is what you gotta do. This is what you gotta buy. You gotta do, I mean, you have a mom. Yeah. You could go a camper store. A sway bar. And I'm like, what is it that, oh, that an anti-sway bar keeps it from swaying, I'm assuming. Yeah. Oh, I know. And then I'm like, do do campers do that? Go. Yeah. Yeah. Like trailers. Yeah. Especially go to a camper store, man. Yeah. And then I'm like, talk to the camper people. Yeah. And then I'm like, if Craig dies, how am I gonna drive this thing? I can't. You could. Why are you thinking about Craig dying? I dunno. Okay. I mean, I always think about that too, but like, stop it. Yeah. So we are kind of off the camper right now. We'll see. You can get a popup, but still that's ways too. Nope. That's ways just as bad. Yeah. Yeah. But in terms of like setting it up. Super easy. Like it's not like you're having a, you say that one of those, like, those like push out things and you're not like slides and that's so much, that's way easier. Like there's way less to it than a full on. You'll be fine. I'll be fine. I'll be fine. We'll see. Yeah. Maybe just like, you know, YouTube, first time campers, what to know. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Oh, I'm sure someone has made a video somewhere. There's probably a lot of, A lot of that. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, you can find anything on YouTube. You really can. I remember I had to go to the airport and I was like, how do I get into the, like I just wanted to know the driving aspect Yeah. Of like pulling into the parking lot. Mm-hmm. And this lady, she filmed the entire thing. She's like, and this is terminal wand. And I'm like, oh, thank God. Yeah. That's awesome. I wouldn't even think of to look up, I, it just because I was so anxious because I'm like, I gotta trouble by myself. I'm freaking out. Mm-hmm. Yeah. That's good advice actually. Yeah. Nice. Let us know what you guys YouTube history is like to like help you. Yeah. What's the weirdest thing you've ever searched on YouTube? Nothing like nasty, but just like odd. When I was a kid, two girls went up. Oh gosh. Hannah. Yeah. Was that before they had like the adult filters and stuff? There was, I mean, there was no video. It was just a play for all. Oh. There was no video. Oh, okay. It was just people reacting to what it was. So I'm just like, oh yeah, I totally watched it. A wink wink. Now you mean bless your eyeballs for not having seen that, but like I saw everyone's reactions to it and I'm like, I don't think I wanna see it. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I never saw it. I don't think I did either. I, I probably would remember that. I don't think I did. Yeah. Yeah. But that was the wi I was a kid. Mm-hmm. So everyone was talking about, I'm like, what is this? So I remember that. Was that like middle school? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It should not have middle school. I know. My baby is almost in middle school. Okay. But the think, think about like the, the like pop culture aspect of that. So all these things happen at one point in time. But we all exist at different points at the same time. So like we were in middle school, but the people who were originally talking about it were maybe in college. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. So like, yes, it, it, it's inappropriate for us, but it was like passed down from older people. So yes. I dunno, you gotta kind of think about that a bit. There's like a lot of weird rumors in middle school. Mm-hmm. So, but like we all heard the same thing. Yeah. Isn't that kind of weird? Mm-hmm. Yeah, because I didn't have cable so I thought it was like, you know, the cable kids like, oh, I saw this on cable and Oh no.'cause they brought it to school with them for you. I felt really that country folk. Um. Missed out when everyone was talking about Janet Jackson's boob. Oh, and the Super Bowl.'cause you didn't get to see it. I didn't get to see it. Had YouTube. That wasn't a thing, or No, it, no, this was elementary. Oh, was it? Okay. Yeah. What year was that? I'll say 2003. Yeah, 2004. Let me Google. We have, we have access. Boob boob. Mm. 2004. Ah, I said 2003. 2004? Yep. You didn't say that. You said 2003 for sure. No, I said 2004 too. Okay. Well we have proof of that too. Yeah. Sarah, roll it. Roll the tape. I did not roll it. I did not hear that. You don't listen to anything, but I was hearing, yeah, I was already like in the throes of Googling, so I said 2004. I'm gonna listen to this episode and be like I said it. Okay. I said 2003, 2004. Well, sorry, I'm having a snack. Yeah, we're having some snackies, Chick-fil-A Breakfast, Chick-fil-A Breakfast Can't Burrito. I can not drive by a Chick-fil-A Sugar Mama Calisa in the morning without getting Chick-fil-A breakfast. The wish was right. Amazing. So, okay. What's been new? Sarah, do you wanna talk about your Florida trip? Oh, sure. So I went to Florida and it was actually for a work trip, so it wasn't like that crazy or anything. Um. Flying was scary way. Did you go by yourself? No. There was like 10 of us. Oh my god. I know. It was a big, it was a big shindig. Wow. Big thing. Yeah. Do you all sit together? Um, yeah, for the most part. Wow. Yeah. I sat next to one girl behind us. There was a just one unfortunately. Um, and then I sat next to a random person and then I think all the other six, is that, does that equal 10? Whatever. All the other people ended up in like their groups of three or whatever. I think so. Jeez. Yeah. But, sorry. Flying on the way out was rough. There was a lot of turbulence and I did cry. You cry? Yeah, but I, it wasn't hysterical. Like the girl behind me, the girl behind me had like a panic attack. Oh, fight. And she was like hysterical. Oh my gosh. Um, so it wasn't that bad. It was just like a silent tear. Oh. Because I was afraid God. But it was okay. It was, we made it. And so, you know. Did they say why there was so much turbulence? Um, well we left when there was a storm. Oh, well that would be, so there was storms here and then there was storms there also, like forecasted at the time. So was this Minneapolis or Des Moines? Minneapolis. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I forget what day of that was. It was like the what, even month? It, I don't even know this. It's August right now. It was like the end of July. Yeah. So like the last, the week before the third week maybe, I think of July. So, some storms and stuff, so it, it was just like, and listen, I get the whole thing about, everyone's like, it's just air pockets, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Like, I understand how flying works, but when your body has like a physical reaction to mm-hmm. Like the feeling of you dropping Yeah. Like, I can't, like help that. Yeah. Reaction. Yeah. So it's not like, I dunno. It's not like a, a logical fear of the fear it's, or fear of that. It's like the fear of the fear. Yeah. If that makes sense. Yeah. So, yeah, that was rough. Um, went to the ocean a couple times. Did you go in it? But it was very sunny. No. Oh. Mm-hmm. I don't do ocean stuff. Yeah. I'll put my legs in, but Oh my gosh. Like maybe last week or two weeks ago, right. Not too long after we got back, maybe like a week or two after we got back. There was a huge thing about how four people had died from skin bacteria, skin eating bacteria. Okay. Oh, of course. Someone had died. A little boy had died from a brain eating amoeba. Oh, nice. And then like a week after that, there was a hammerhead shark incident at that same beach. Oh, cool. And so I was like, yeah, this is why I don't go in the, in the beat, uh, in the water people. Wow. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Not for me. It's kind of wild. Yep. Um, have you seen how many, like beaches in Iowa are not safe to swim at because of that bacteria? Yes. It's disgusting. Yes. So gross. Yeah. Sorry. I'd rather prefer a pool than the ocean. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I wouldn't say it's like good for you. No, like the chemicals. Mm-hmm. A salt pool maybe. I don't know. But you know what? I thought of assault, assault people, like punching people mid, mid swim. But yeah, we read a book, listened to a lot of lectures and it was a really good book and I learned a lot. So did you go to like a, like a conference or like a hotel for a conference or? No, this was not that kind of thing. It was specifically to read this book and like study this. Book. Is it Florida, an adult book? Mm-hmm. Or is it a kid's book? It's an adult book. It's the Abolition of Man by CS Lewis, so, okay. Yeah. It was a difficult read. I will say. I don't think I'm intelligent enough for that. It was a difficult read, but the lectures I feel like were very good. Or were the lectures probably like 20 online? It's through a classical education. So you go to Florida website, you know, I had the same reaction and I was like. But why are we traveling a thousand miles to go do this? And everyone was like, this is just what we do. Like this is how we like, it's, it's something called sc and it's part of, it's kind of hard to explain. It's part of just like, I don't even know how to explain this. Is it like a group thing that you s SC is basically like learning and rest. So you do some of your best learning while you're resting. So you find a place where your mod, your body's at rest, your mind is at rest. And you learn and you're able to absorb more information and all this kind of stuff, so. Hmm. Ole people slay, slay, slay the ole. Interesting. Yeah. But I voted for Colorado personally and not Florida.'cause I don't like that the hotness. I did spend a lot of time inside. It was very sunny. Yeah. And I just really do not like the feeling of sunscreen on me. So. That was tough. But you're like sensory overloaded. Yes. And they're like, isn't it just so relaxing and you just like the sand and the sunscreen and it was so hot. Hot. It was so sunny. Like, I don't like the ocean. I like it in the evening when it's like, you know, peaceful. Not so hot, not so sunny.'cause then I can appreciate it and look at it, you know? Mm-hmm. Listen to it. But cool. Yeah, I think we play home was okay. Was better. Yeah. I think you, we went on vacation kind of at the same time, but different places. Yeah, I think we did. Yeah. So you went to Florida? Mm-hmm. So yeah, me and the family went to South Carolina, uh, because, uh, un sub all the four hosts and then like, you know, people part of like the unsubscribe podcast, people were all like, Hey, let's vacation. And Nick was all like, I don't wanna go. I'm like, we're going like, I don't care. We'll take the kids with us. We can take your mother too, which was great. She was great. And I say that because we landed in South Carolina and it was so hot. The air, like you couldn't breathe in it. It was that hot. It was like muggy. It was wet heat times a hundred. Mm-hmm. Like I could, I had a hard time breathing. I'm like, oh my god, it, it's so hot. Mm-hmm. And I had cash and my mother-in-law outside the airport just kinda like stretching his legs a little bit. And I didn't think anything of it. And then we went to our rental car and, um, you know, didn't think anything of it. We were all like sweating. Mm-hmm. It was so hot. And then Nick just like turned on the ac full blast and everything and my damn throat. I don't know why it does this. Um, we, it's like a, it's a half hour drive and I looked at the e the. GPS, and I'm like, oh, about 27 minutes. And we're all looking around just like at the swamps and everything and at the trees, and I'm like, oh, it kind of gives me like a floor feel a little bit. And then Nick stopped at a gas station and I was like, okay. It says we're about three minutes away from our Airbnb. And then the boys, I was sitting in the back with the two kids next to me. My mother-in-law and Nick are sitting in the front and then we're eating some chips. I didn't think anything of it. I was just kind of like looking outside the windows. I'm like, do, do, do, do. Like looking at all the brand new things and then we get to our Airbnb, Nick gets out and is gonna open the door to let cash out. My youngest, and he's like, cash. And then he's like, cash, cash, cash. And like shaking him and then he, I just. I just remember seeing Cash's little body just being thrown out of his car seat.'cause Nick was like cash, like just screaming at him. And my mother-in-law was like, get him inside. Get him inside. But we just got to the Airbnb. We were like, I don't know that. How do you even get in? You know? Yeah. So we're like. You know, they're trying to do that. And I'm just like, I'm no help. I'm like screaming. I'm like, oh my God. Because, uh, my mom, sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but I am picturing here just like running around like a chicken with her head called. Yeah. And, but then it like started to get serious when my mother-in-law call 9 1 1 and I'm like, oh God. Oh God. Oh my God. Oh my god. And Nick's like, Hannah, calm down. And I'm like, like I'm just trying not to freak out and like lose my shit. And, um. Poor cutter, like we forgot about him, but he can get out himself. And um, yeah, I just remember they got in like Airbnb and Cash still isn't responding to us and I just, uh, like his eyes were open. Mm-hmm. He wasn't blinking at all. And Nick, he's just like pounding on his back thinking he's choking. And my mother-in-law's like, Nick, stop hitting him. I think he's having a seizure. And I'm like, what? I'm still freaking out. And my mother-in-law lays him on his side and she, you know, they're talk, her and Nick are talking to the operator and she was like, I think he's having a seizure. He's two years old. He feels very, very hot. And they're like, okay, ambulance and police are on their way. Ambulance gets here. And then finally, I think cash snaps out of it a little bit.'cause he like, Nick's helping him sit up on the couch. And the paramedics are testing him. They're like, he does have a fever of 101. Mm-hmm. Which is a good thing they said, because if he didn't have a fever and he was having a seizure, like Uhoh Yeah. Something neuro, yeah. But they're like, he must have like got like a little sickness because like, uh, this is like a small febrile seizure. Mm-hmm. And we're like, I mean, he showed no signs of sickness at all. Mm-hmm. So. But if he had a quick spike in fever that can, right? Mm-hmm. But then they're thinking, well, with the weather from Iowa to South Carolina and how like drastic it is. Yeah. Yeah. And he, they said he was outside, like they're, they were saying that his little body just can't like regulate that. Regulate pretty good. Mm-hmm. And I was like, okay. But they're like, but we would like to send you by ambulance to the hospital just to make sure everything's okay. And I'm like, okay. So my mother-in-law and cat cutter stayed behind. And Nick like ran into the car and was like speeding, like following us in the ambulance and everything and cash. He's just kind of sitting in the ambulance, um, thing and was like kind of tired and like one of the zone off a little bit. And he was like hooked up to all these monitors and I'm just like looking out the window and I see Nick just like fast and furious. I'm like, oh my gosh, the lights weren't on or anything. So I'm like, okay. You know, they're not like the lights are, they're not like Yeah. A life and death situation. But, uh, we got to the, the hospital, everyone was great. They're like, I'm sorry, this is how you start your vacation. I'm like, yeah, I don't think we're gonna to be able to like relax. Mm-hmm. But, um, no bag. He checked out fine. They're like, this is probably a once in a lifetime thing. And Nick had a feal seizure when he was Cassius age. Mm-hmm. So my mother-in-law was telling us that. She's like, yep, Nick, you had the same thing when you were the, this sage. Mm-hmm. But she was by herself. Mm. And she in the car and everything, and she just noticed Nick was actually ceasing. And she's like, oh my gosh. She was a young mom. Yeah. So she was like, what the fuck do I do? But no, she was great with this one because she works in a hospital. She does CPR training. She is worked with seizure people because of a, a past job. She was great. Just a, a good. Head on her shoulders while mm-hmm. I'm running with my head cut off. Mm-hmm. And Nick's just, and Nick's just hitting him. Yeah. He's just like smacking his back'cause he really thought he was choking on a chip and I'm like. Yeah. And she's like, stop hitting him. He's not turning purple. He's first instinct. So, I mean, Nick has medical training, but it's kind of different when it's your own kids sometimes, I suppose. A hundred percent. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like he just, it's like your worst fear type of stuff happening, you know? And then you just like, and that's when I was like, oh my God, my life flashed before my eyes. Mm-hmm. I'm like, oh my God, do we have this add cash in a casket all the way on there? Like, I was like, oh my God. Yeah, I was freaking out. But no, he. He turned around the next day and he was perfectly fine, acted like nothing happened, and we're like, okay. Did Cutter say anything about it? Mm-hmm. Okay. He might not remember. That's, he might not, that's good, because he was like playing in the pool that day. Mm-hmm. Because, uh, all the Unsup hosts picked my mother-in-law and him up and took him to their Airbnb and they had a pool and everything, so, no, he was just playing in the, he was just playing in the water. Nice. Mm-hmm. I'm like, I, I guess that's all I could ask for. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oblivion. Mm-hmm. I'm like, whatever. Yeah, that's probably a good age for him.'cause he, there's like a good chance that he won't remember. Hopefully not. But he remembers other things, random things, and I'm like, it's weird what they remember. Yeah. But I don't know if that will form like long, what is that long term memory? Is that right? Who knows? Because those are things that he'll remember now, but he might run out. Remember those 10 years from now, those small things'll. So we'll see. In 10 years, we'll ask him, Hey, remember? And he'll be like, what? Yep. Yeah. So yeah, the rest of the trip was good. Um, me and three other, well I was with three other girls, the Unsub fiances,'cause they're all engaged. Um, the one girl who I talked about that was like losing her dad to Alzheimer's. Mm-hmm. He passed, oh no. When we were away. Oh no. When we were on the trip altogether. Oh. Then she told us that and I'm like, you know, it's kinda, I mean, it sucks. Yeah. It's kind of weird that you're with everyone else who's lost their dads too. So we all have like this little sisterhood, little bonding moment. Yeah. Everybody's got dead dads. Yeah. Literally weird. Yeah. So, um, that was probably like a peak, like memory, core memory. Mm-hmm. And then, yeah, the rest of the trip was fine. We just stayed at the Airbnb and the pool and the beach. Nice. That sounds nice. Mm-hmm. It wasn't bad except for the first day. Yeah. First five minutes. Yeah. Yeah. Were you at a children's hospital specifically? Yes. Okay. Nice. Nice. Specific children hospital, which was kind of scary when we went to the hospital because we just saw all these babies crying. Yeah. And I'm like, oh God. Yes. Nobody likes babies in a hospital. No. But no. But yeah, so uh, if you have a child between six months to five years. Just be cautious of a febrile seizure. One in three kids will have one. Mm-hmm. That's a lot. Yeah. Gannon had one. I wasn't there for it though. A febrile seizure. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Um, and you have three kids? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Fascinating. Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh, one of three we think it was. Anyway, but yeah, he had like an unresponsive episode. He started, he woke up from a nap and just started coughing and coughing and coughing, and he had really bad croup. And so he just like was coughing and coughing and coughing, and we could not get him to stop coughing. And so we were gonna take him to the ER because we thought maybe something like he was choking or something. Mm-hmm. Like what? Like a creepy cough. Yeah. Huh. Yeah. Like so super, not like super like, right, right. But like we could not figure out why he wouldn't stop coughing. And then finally, like halfway there, he just stopped coughing and. We were like, what's going on? And so we, well, I wasn't there, so this is what I've been told. They like pulled over. Oh, who was driving him? My mom and Craig. Okay. Yeah. And they pulled over and they like got him outta the car seat and like, he's just completely a limp and like, just not anything, not doing anything, not responding. And then they called the ambulance and they're waiting there for the ambulance and um, like. Within five minutes of the ambulance like coming over the hill, Gannon sits up and goes, look ambulance. Oh God. And he was just fine after that. How old is he? Two. Oh yeah. So, yep. Yeah, but they were diagnosed with a febrile seizure, but I wasn't there to see it, so. Hmm. Do you know if he had like that temperature? Well, he had the croup. So they assume he had a virus. I don't know if he had a temperature or not, but they called it a febrile seizure. So I'm assuming that group, he must have had a fever. Oh, he had the group. The group, yeah. Oh, scary. Yeah, it was. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Thank God I wasn't there. I was at work, so I'm glad Craig and my mom handled it. Yeah, but they, but they still talk about it. They'll still cry talking about it. Yeah. It's very scary. It's so scary. Mm-hmm. Um, yeah, it's sucks that we have to have those memories. As parents, like we have to think about that forever. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yep. Crazy. Yep. So a febrile seizure. Mm-hmm. If someone would've told us like, Hey, by the way, this, if you ever heard of it. Mm-hmm. This is what it is. My niece has seizures, but I don't, I don't recall. Hers are like, I don't know. You said seizures? Yeah. She has like a seizure. Seizure disorder. Mm-hmm. Oh, so very in the neuro. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like I think she takes medication to, mm-hmm. I mean, they're scary. Seizures witnessing one. Yeah. But no cash wasn't convulsing or anything. Mm-hmm. He just, yeah. When the lights go out, lights are on. Nobody's home. Yeah. Mm-hmm. So scary. Yeah. Yeah. I'm glad the rest of your trip was fun. Yeah, I saw some of the pictures looked great. Yeah. Mm-hmm. It did. Yep. Cutter was in the ocean. Yeah. Loved it. And tried to find a bunch of shark teeth. I'm like, oh my gosh. Oh my God. Oh, actually, do you know what? Next time you go back, um, this, one of the other teachers, she had this special like scooper tool and it's like a little tiny sieve. I think Cutter would really like that. Oh God. You should get him one. It's like a, a cute little scooper. So you like scoop up a bunch of sand. Shake out because it, it'll just like all shake fall out. And so then all that's left is the shells. Mm. We should get em one of those. That's nice. So you can bring 45,000 shells home, obviously. Yeah. Great. We still have our shells from Florida sitting on the shelf. Exactly. Yep. Same. And Anders will point to em and go Beach. Aw. I was gonna bring Shells home for the kids. And I was like. I don't wanna have junk, more junk in the house, so, yeah, no, yeah. I just take a picture, like, see, look at this. I know. I was like, we, a couple of the people went out at night and they saw like ghost crabs and stuff, so I was like, I showed the kids the pictures and I was like, this is this, is this, this? And they were, they found a dead baby shark and they were so, they were like showing, I was showing the kids and Yeah. Yeah. A dead baby shark. Yeah. Do you wanna see it? Yeah, I sure do. Send it in the group chat so I can post it on the stories. Okay. I will. Oh. Is that okay? Probably. Um, I dunno. I'll, I'll figure that out. Well, if there, if the people are in the picture, I don't want to Oh, yeah. Oh, send it. But I can crop it. Calissa. What did you do? You went to Lost Island? Yes, we went to Lost Island. We stayed at the KOA across the Road. Campgrounds of America. Oh, campground. Mm-hmm. Did you stay in the camp? KOA? No. A cabin. A cabin. Fun. Yes. Usually the KOA has multiple. Cabins they have. Yeah. It's like a multi, it's like a, it's like a glamping campgrounds. Yeah. Ooh. You can, you can tend camp. You can camper camp. You can, they have like a pool usually. They have a ton of cabins. They had a little pond to swim in. You could fish in it. The boys went fishing. They caught a ton of fish. It's just catching release though. Yeah. I mean, we don't do anything with the fish. Um. And, uh, we swam for a long time and that was so much fun. And then had a fire, went back to the cabin, slept, um, then we went to Lost Island. Nice. The theme park and not the water park. Right. Okay. And we were like the only people there. It felt like it was crazy. We didn't Wait. What day did she go on? Uh, it was a Saturday. What? Yeah, and we went early in the day. Um, like right when it opened at 11 and we got there and we were, um, like the first, there was no lines, first of all, like you could just walk up to a ride and get on it. Oh my God. Like it, we rarely waited for anything. The Ferris wheel took a little while because it took like for people to get loaded on and load it off just because of the nature of how the Ferris wheel realized. That was the longest we had to wait for anything. And so we'd just like Craig and I would take turns, I'd stay with the boys. He'd go on a rollercoaster by himself. Yeah. Yeah. And then he'd stay with the boys and I'd go on a rollercoaster and um, Carver would do a lot of'em with us. Oh, nice.'cause he was old enough and Gannon wasn't interested. He was probably tall enough to do a couple of'em, but just wasn't interested. Mm-hmm. And, uh, did the rollercoasters like go upside down? Anything like that? Oh yeah. Oh gosh. You like that? Oh my gosh, yes. It was like they had some. Awesome roller coasters and they're all brand new, so they're so smooth. Yeah, they're not like shaking. You just got that. Yeah. Um, but I was just surprised how they can stay open because it's just like, so do you think there was more people in the waterpark? Oh yeah. A hundred percent waterpark was packed. There was tons of lines in the slides and stuff like that. Oh. But um, the theme park is a little more expensive, so I wonder if people just like. Decided not to, but if the weather's hot, people are like, oh, it was super hot that day. Aw. So yeah, but we've already been to Lost Island and also Lost Island has so much cement. Your feet just literally burn. I remember going there as a kid and I was like making fun of my uncle who was wearing water shoes. I'm like, you look like a freaking dork. Oh my gosh. Throughout the day actually put my feet at the beach. I was like, oh shit. Like he's so smart. Like my feet are on fire. Yeah. Yeah. Because I legitimately did burn my feet at the beach. Like I took my shoes off and I was walking in the hot sand. That's it. Burned. It's hot. Yeah. Yeah, it's hot. So yeah, we had a ton of fun. We'll probably do, if we don't get a camper, we'll probably just be more intent. Intentional. Intentional. Intentional about booking, like KOAs. Mm-hmm. Um, cabins and stuff like that, and just do that because even if we spend, let's say we book. Five cabins and they're$500 each for the weekend. And that's all we do all summer is, you know, we go camping five times at five different KOAs or whatever. Um, or glamping resorts. There's another glamping resort in Bellevue, Iowa. I've heard of that right on the Mississippi offshore resort that I'm really excited to go to. Um, we, it would still be exponentially cheaper than buying a camper. Hmm. Yeah. So that's a good idea. Yeah. Because I like, I would like to camp. Nick will not, but I'm like, well, like camp camp. Yeah, like a tent. Oh gosh. Hannah of air mattress. Oh my gosh. Sounds fun. Some, that sounds like my worst nightmare. Yeah. You and Nick to be hot. But a cabin, we could do a cabin where there's air conditioning. Air conditioning, if there's air conditioning. Mm-hmm. And a real toilet and a real shower. Mm-hmm. I'm in. Yep. And then they got bunk beds for the boys and Aw. On queen sized bed for us in a separate room. Queen. Yeah. We just snuggle up, like is if it's hot, like get away from me, go on the couch to see you kicking Calvin off the bed. That would be terrible. Yeah. But that sounds fun. Yeah. Yeah. A good idea for like future. Yeah. Um, because we wanna do something to. With people, with like other family. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. That'd be fun.'cause you could each have a cabin and then mm-hmm. Yep. Because we were looking at Great Wolf Lodge and I'm like, that just sounds like a nightmare. I'm so sorry. You so expensive. I mean, if you've been to Great, great Wolf Lodge, let me know. Mm-hmm. Truly let me know. Like, oh, are they like separate cabins or how does that work? I don't know anything about those. It's a big, like hotel. Oh yeah. Actually hotel really isn't that bad because like when Calvin's family gets a hotel somewhere. They, they get like a block room situation. Mm-hmm. So we're all like right next to each other. It's really not that bad, but I guess at great.'cause I was looking at everyone's reviews, like kids will like run and scream down the hallways. Mm-hmm. Like literally all night. Yep. Because I think it's open like Yep. All night.'cause of the arcade, they got dance raves, they've got, oh my gosh. See, they don't have that at the wilderness. I feel like in, in Wisconsin, the wilderness resort. Oh, okay. Like in the wilderness, there's no dance rapes. Got it. There's no like wilderness resorts. The hotel. Okay. The Wisconsin. Dells pretty much hotel. Okay. There's lots of hotels and water parks, but I feel like that's the main one that people go to. Did you, you've been to Wisconsin Dells? We've gone five times. Wow. Six times. So you like it? Yes. But your kids are also like water kids, right? Yeah. They enjoy that. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. We love Wisconsin Dells. It's just gotten super duper expensive. Mm-hmm. Oh, see, I thought it was like such a cash grab for like tourists. Yeah. It kind of is. It is. It kind of is. But it's nice because it's one of those places that it's all in one spot. Mm-hmm. I guess like you're not driving other places to like do this and driving other places to do this and driving other places to do this. Like it's all in that one area. Mm-hmm. We went is so nice when you have kids in the winter as well. Yeah. And we go during the week in the winter is how we get a discount, so Okay. How is it in the winter? Great. Wonderful. No, not bad at all. It's, it's just the right amount. Like there's like, we can still get a beach chair, but there's still other kids to play with. Mm-hmm. And um, yeah, we really like it. We usually go every February. We've missed this year because we went to Florida instead. Hmm. So maybe I can convince Nick again. Yeah. We were looking at, we love water parks, so we were looking at our Japan tickets and we decided that we're gonna buy our friend who would be like our tour guide basically. To pay for his ticket and it's like$8,000. So we are like, wait, just for one person? Just for, for all five of us. All five. So us four, my family, and then this person. Yeah. 8,000. Yeah, 8,000 just for the tickets. Hmm. So I wanna die a little bit inside and I'm, yeah. So you're going, I think, oh my gosh. I think we're gonna go. Those just plane tickets. Just, I've been saving really hard, like saving really hard. Hopefully, yeah. And then we're, uh, I think Calvin talked one of his sisters and her family into going, oh, so maybe we'll go to Nintendo land with them and we'll hang out and it'll be a big family trip Plus Tyso. Yeah. You could take her plane, couldn't you? Oh, not Jenna. I think Alexa. Oh, I don't know if we could buy flight internationally on that plane. Probably not actually. May we maybe could. Could Kim Kardashian does it? I think we could. It's pretty small, but I think we, I think, I think they have, I think they've taken that plane internationally, but I wouldn't ask her to do that.'cause that's really expensive. That's like$8,000 for us. It's like, ooh. You know them. They're like, Ooh. But yeah. Yeah. That times 10. Mm-hmm. Probably more. Yeah. Cool. So. Looking forward to Japan. Hopefully went for like two weeks over spring break. Over spring break. So it'll be like a two week trip instead of a one week trip. Nice. Yeah. You're gonna come back like talking Japanese? No, I won't. I um, I really struggle to pick up languages, so I, I won't Yeah, for sure. But I wish I will. That's cool. I could pick a language up really quick. Yeah. Some people really do and I'm very impressed. Yeah. I don't have a good like memorization. Well, I tried learning Spanish, but a lot of those words, they are very similar to each other. Mm-hmm. Or they're spelled the same. Just meant differently. Yeah. Can you roll your Rs? Yeah. And we've already learned the most difficult language, like on the planet, which is English. Yeah. So, which was so like I never understood that. But Nick was like, if you talk to someone from the south and someone from like the east, like the same, they're talking the same language, but just a different, because we have a lot of slang. Yeah. And we have a lot of the same like words that. Mean different things, but they're the same word or vice versa. They mean the same things, but they're different words or like, like seen and saw. Yeah. Are like pretty much present, past tense, the same thing. Yeah. See other languages have very strict rules about like present past tense. Yes. Masculine, feminine. And we don't have that. When I was throwing Spanish, I'm like, oh, masculine and I never knew that. Mm-hmm. Like OS Latinos. Mm-hmm. Yes. Latina, Latino. Mm-hmm. Hmm. Nino. Yeah. Yeah, I know what that means, boy. Okay. But with a O boy, Nina girl. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm just like, damn, that's already confusing. Mm-hmm. Yes. It's actually quite simpler once you, once you, Carl says this, um, once you learn like one language, how to conjugate things. Yes, yes. Like it's easier for other stuff, easier for other languages, not all of the other languages. Mm-hmm. But for some other languages, because most of them follow very similar principles at least of Yes. Yep. How to conjugate. Yeah. And yeah. I'm like, that's interesting. Mm-hmm. Like, it just, it's everything is interesting. I know. That's why I never like, if, if we ever have a friend who is from somewhere foreign and like English is their second or third language, I'm just like, don't feel bad if you mess up.'cause English is freaking hard, dude. Like mm-hmm. And when I went to Germany, when I was a kid, like their English class, they learned stuff that we never learned. So I was like, Ooh, you guys are ahead of me. Like, I don't know what you're talking about. So I guess I don't even know what you're talking about. Like they learned like grammar, certain grammar structure and stuff that I never learned. Like it might be something that we inherently have picked up on just by, through speech and stuff, but I don't know like the actual rules for it. I wouldn't be able to sit down and like tell you a sentence structure. Oh no. Where like they would be able to be like, oh yeah, this is this, this is this. You put this together with this because of this, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I'm just like, I can't do that. I can never be a writer. Yeah. So Josiah, yeah, I'm no. What about trips for you guys? Are you guys thinking about trips in the future? Nope. Just day by day you're getting through just, uh, thinking about a camper. Yeah. And where we'd go with that. Was she washy on it? Yeah. And where was she washy on the camper. So we gotta wait for a lot of my mom's stuff to get kind of cleared out and see where the chips fall after that. Mm-hmm. And then go from there. You wanna talk about your mom? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I sure can. Um, how is she doing? Uh, not well. Is she feeling okay or is, is she feeling not well? Yeah, she's feeling not well. Um, she broke her back. Mmm. Oh. Um, her L five is just pretty much shattered. Mm-hmm. So, um, she's gonna have surgery on that coming up. A big surgery. She'll be in the hospital for seven days. Geez. And then she'll go to a rehab facility for like a week after that. Is it one of those things where you have to relearn how to walk type of thing, or like, I don't think it's that extensive. Okay.'cause it's just a vertebrae, right? Yes. Yeah. They're like removing the broken bone. Mm-hmm. And they're replacing it with like a spacer. Okay. So, um, and that's all because of her metastatic thyroid disease, um, thyroid cancer. And so she's having MRIs actually right now. Um. To see if there's more cancer. So is this the phone call you're waiting on? No, no, I haven't got it yet. Okay. I'm waiting. Yeah. Um, but yeah, she's got a good attitude about it. Um, the pain medication where we're finally getting sorted out. Okay. So she's a little less pain, um, which is good, but, but she'll still be like. Cognitively available, right? Yes. So I kinda like knock her out and be like, morphine level, like ugh. Right, okay. Right. Yeah, she does not want that. Okay, good. She would rather deal with a little bit of pain than to be like knocked out like that. Yeah. Yeah. So, but yeah, we're just waiting for surgery. There's lots of appointments in Iowa City before the surgery, lots of appointments after the surgery and um, she won't be able to drive for a while. So it's just a lot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So this is your message to get your thyroid checked, have them feel your thyroid when you're at your annual physical,'cause that's how my moms got caught. And it was actually, they did a biopsy of it and it was undetermined of if it even had cancer in it, and by then it had already spread. Mm Oh. So if she wouldn't have got the whole thing out. Could be much worse potentially at this point. Yeah. 10 years ago. Definitely keep up on your physicals. Yep. Because I dunno if I told you, because my mom, she got like a mammogram and she just had tiny little cancer. I didn't know that. Mm-hmm. Oh my gosh. When was that? Uh, maybe like six months ago. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. You gotta keep up on your, she bounced right back though. After, yeah. At least from what you said. Mm-hmm. But we were ho I was. Everyone was hoping that she kinda lay off on the farm a little bit. Mm-hmm. Like maybe this is your sign to like, relax, slow down. No, she's still going. Yeah. But um, yeah, it's very important to get your physicals. Mm-hmm. You don't know what's going on down, you know, everywhere. Everywhere. All up inside there. Yep. Yep. So scary. But do you keep your physicals? Nope. I knew I knew it. I knew, that's why I asked. Well, I just, I don't know. Maybe if we had insurance it would be different, but we have like a health share. Oh, okay. And so, yeah, I don't want, we have like a thousand dollars deductible or something before we have to Yeah. Get things covered. So I'm like, mm, no, I think, I remember reading when Taylor Swift was like making like the money. She had both her parents go in for physicals and make sure everything was like, oh yeah. And they both had cancer or Right. Or her mom did or something? Oh, I don't, yeah, her mom has a brain tumor. Oh, okay. And breast, she had breast cancer as well. Okay. There you go. Oh yeah, she's still around. Mm-hmm. Oh, yep. Uh, and I feel like her dad did too. Yeah. I right. Isn't, that's what I'm thinking. Like prostate cancer or something. Oh, I don't know. I feel like maybe her dad did. Maybe they caught it early. But I just thought that was so cool for a celebrity to like. Do with their money like that? Mm-hmm. Like, nope, you're gonna go get checked out, get everything checked out at the hospital. And I was always like, that's really cool. That's kind of baller. Instead of buying like, you know, a house or a car. Right. Yes. Which she did do that too. I was Right. Prostate cancer. Yeah. Yeah. I thought I remembered hearing that they both had cancer at one point. Yep. And he had heart surgery just recently as well. Well, well he is older, right? He's in his sixties. Yeah. But that's, I think that's pretty young. I think that's pretty young. Yeah. Yeah. So not for hard stuff though. For hard stuff. Oh, for hard stuff. Yeah. That's a little young for hard stuff. Yeah, I think so. Like seventies is when you eighties. Yeah. Hmm. Okay. Ticker. You're ticker. Well'cause a bug's life. This old aunt gets hit in like the neck, I think, and he's always like, oh, my ticker. So like Cutter just says it like randomly in a store. Oh, my ticker. And I'm like, shut up. Like I don't want, people are gonna hear something else. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Yeah. I see. Yeah. So I'm always like, shh, come on. Oh, my dick. Oh my. That's funny. Yeah. Oh, yes. We, on this episode, on um, kind of a family vacation. Family vacation, family health. Yeah. Little bit of a sad ending there. Yeah. Yeah. Geez, Calissa. I know. Just kidding. Anyone have a joke? No, I don't. I don't. If it makes you feel better, it probably won't. But my grandma had like blood and bone cancer for like 13 years before it got like to the point where yeah, she was like really going downhill. So yeah. Yeah, yeah. Sorry. I know that wasn't very comforting. Sorry. Yeah, no, I get it. Yeah. It's been a journey. So you have to be the strong one. You don't have to be, you can. I'm like, Louisa, let it go. And Oh my gosh. Encanto. The Synanon. Oh yeah. Something pressure. Yes. That's song always makes me sad because I think she says, um, I'm the oldest or something about like the strongest daughter. Yeah. She has to be. Mm-hmm. And I won't like to like hold everybody else's stuff. Yeah, yeah. And I'm like, I know. That is sad. It's really sad. Yeah. So. Okay. On that note. Yep. Yeah, you can that Thanks for listening. Yay. Uh, let us know, um, what you thought about today's episode. This is Banana and Issa Sarah. Bye.
