88: Review of Documentary: Unknown Number

Kalissa Georgia Kramer

Hello? Hi. Hi, this is Hannah. And Calissa. And Sarah. Okay. So we've all watched the documentary on Netflix, um, a no number. Mm-hmm. And if you watched Multiple tiktoks about it as well. Yes. And if you haven't watched it, maybe stop this episode and go and go watch it. It's on Netflix. Right. And don't just watch the documentary, but also go on TikTok and find people who have read. The cut article about it. Ooh. Because there's a lot more information in the cut article than the, in the documentary. Okay. You, you're gonna have to discuss that because I just watched the documentary and I am still like, I feel like there's so many we're gonna get into it. Okay. Well, while you talk about it, I'm gonna see, I'm gonna look up the creator that I watched. That talked about the cut article'cause she had like a, well, just you mentioning it, it's gonna be on my phone, so Oh, I'm sure. Exactly. But that way I can share with people. Okay. So yeah, we wanna discuss unknown number and if you, um, don't know what that is, it's about a mom catfish catfishing, her daughter Catfishing cat hashing. Catfishing her daughter, bullying her daughter for almost two years. Mm-hmm. So, um, it's pretty messed up. Yes. Yeah. Bonkers. I just feel like the daughter has Stockholm Syndrome. Is that what it is? That she just accepted her mom? Conspiracy theory. Daughter was in on it the whole time. That's what people are saying. What? Oh my gosh. Because her reaction to it was just like, it was weird. Well, okay. Weird. So if you read the cut article, it does kind of talk about that a little bit. Apparently she had been suspecting the mom for like a month before the arrest type of situation. And, um. There was a point in time, forgive me if I don't get it completely correct, but, um, where the sheriff's office had questioned her, the daughter, the daughter, and said, do you think your mom could have done this? Like, we're looking at her as a suspect type of thing. And so she, I think, had some inkling Okay. That it was a possibility that that contributes to her reaction, I guess Yes. Of like, not like total shock of like Right. What the fuck? I would've like, yeah.'cause I smacked her. I don't know what I would've done, to be honest. Just, just shellshocked, I guess. Yeah. And then the way the mom just kind of cradled her, like it's like a manipulation type thing. Yes. Well there were, there was a lot of talk about how the mom like really was. Infiltrated into this girl's life. She had like such a crazy, weird obsession with this boyfriend and the fact that the mom and she had infiltrated their relationship basically has been, you know, she was a volunteer for the school. Mm-hmm. Like the number one volunteer. Mm-hmm. She was a coach. She for the boyfriend's team. Oh really? Oh really? Yes. Oh yeah. She would travel to see his games. Yeah, she would like take the daughter's phone and text. I love you on there. I feel like they, and I've seen several tiktoks that have agreed with this. They have did not properly disclose how obsessed the mother was with Owen. Yes. They didn't, they didn't play much and they touch on in the article. Yeah. I didn't even hear like his mom, like what she thought. Right. I'm like, how do you feel about a grown woman kind of being in love with your son? Because this is a multiple year issue. Yeah. And so. His mom, I forget what his mom's name is, but, um, there's no way that she wouldn't have had feelings about this, this woman who's supposedly her friend. Yeah. 40 something year old woman being like very involved and odd with her son who's, you know, 12 at the time this started or whatever. Odd. It's very odd. Yeah. But then what are your theories of like why the mom did what she did? I think, this is my theory that like. In one of the, part of the documentary. Mm-hmm. I think the friend or something was like, yeah, we go on a cruise. Mm. And she wanted, she wanted to be the center of attention. She wanted all eyes on me. And I'm like, okay, she's a woo girl and a pick me girl. Mm. She just loves the attention on her. Yeah. No matter what. Right. And I'm like, those are the kind of girls that I would see at the bar. Like, you know, trying to get everyone's attention. Absolutely. I was like rolling my eyes. I'm like, oh my God. Stop. A hundred percent. So that's why I'm like, okay. She likes the attention. She had a daughter who's beautiful. Mm-hmm. And the daughter finds like a nice guy. And I think that the mom was like, jealous. Mm. Like. Jealous of the whole thing, her daughter's beauty and maybe the relationship. And then she said that she did what she did because she was assaulted roughly around the time. Her daughter, I think she said 17 or something. I just don't see that as a valid, I don't wanna say excuse, but like for why she did what she did to me, that makes no sense. I'm saying this like she was assaulted, so maybe she was kind of like closed off on guys and maybe she's jealous that her daughter. Found someone so young. Yeah. And will never ex, hopefully never experience being assaulted. So maybe she felt like, oh, she her then why would she's living the things that she said.'cause she basically know sexually harassed these two kids. She told her daughter to end her life. Right. Like it just to me, and I was like, I can understand having trauma in your life multiple times, but to. Use it as like a scapegoat, as an excuse for doing something absolutely horrendous to me. Yeah. Is like a little wild, but like that's where I think like, oh, my daughter's young, she never got assaulted. And she gets to be with like, you know, a guy her age that won't do that to her. And I'm jealous of that. Hmm. Yeah, that's what I think. Interesting. What do you think, Issa? I just feel like a really good parent after. Right. I'm like, I'm killing it. Yeah. Yeah. I, the whole thing with Owen is just, and the Owen's mom. Mm-hmm. I was kind of annoyed with Owen's mom by the end of the documentary for how much she went after, what is her name? Chloe. Chloe? Mm-hmm. I wasn't, I was not, I was like, she probably deserves it. Like, look at her parents. Look how like. Mean her parents are and then be like, oh yeah, I wonder where she gets her bullying tendencies from. Yeah. Her own parents and the dad's cop and they're not quiet about it. No. So back to your point again, bringing up the cut article, there's this huge emphasis, even at one point in the documentary where they talk about like the relationships of the community.'cause it's such a small town and apparently they have this very like. Um, I don't know how to say this, this certain view about people who are like outsiders basically. So like they're not part of the in crowd, they're not welcome, they're not treated well. They're not part of the popular crowd type of thing. Um, and so the dad, apparently Lauren's dad was kind of part of that, not in crowd, he was an outsider type of thing type of thing. And so. It was said that kind of her having the personality that you were talking about, the woo girl, the attention seeker. Mm-hmm. And then being married to someone who was an outsider. Yeah. It sort of pushed her outside of the circle that she wanted to be in. Yeah. And I think whereas because he had to work like multiple jobs. Right. Just to like Right. She's probably jealous and she was still the breadwinner. Yeah. Before this whole event. And so like all like probably the people in the crowd, yeah. They have money. Right. They don't have to worry about that. They can, you know, but also. Owen's parents apparently were high school sweethearts, both from that community. She was a head cheerleader. He was a head football person. So they were just init, they were just part of, they were the in crowd. Mm-hmm. That was them. And so them to have a son who also were like, was like a star of that in crowd. Oh. Then to have Lauren kind of infiltrate that and date him. Mm-hmm. I do like the jealousy aspect of her. Yeah. Wanting to be involved and that totally makes sense. Oh. So I think there's a lot of, it's a multi multifaceted situation from what I was reading and seeing. So, so a little bit of everything, like social status. Mm-hmm. Jealousy. Mm-hmm. Yeah.'cause everyone's just like attacking the mom's looks and like you can't help like read into it like, oh my gosh. Like, I see. But they don't like say that because of how shitty she was towards her own daughter. Mm-hmm. There had to be some sort of like mental health aspect to this, right? Yeah. There had to be. There's no way somewhere in that timeline where she's just like. No. Like Yeah. Healthy people don't do that. Yeah. You don't just like turn your brain off and like something has to happen. Yeah. To like really make you snap like that. Yeah. I think it had probably had to do with the loss of her job. You think so? I think that that was probably true. Okay. But I heard that she quit. I thought she was fired. I thought she was fired. The second one where she was supposedly hired at this university, she quit because it was like taking up too much of her time. Hmm. I thought she was fired. Yeah, me too. Okay. Which would make sense. There were two jobs that were mentioned. Yeah. The first one that she had, and then the second one. So maybe I'm thinking of the second one. I think where she quit and I just don't know how the husband was so oblivious to like her not working. How do you not know that there's not income coming in? That's what I say. She was the one who was in, in control of the finances. Yeah, but like, like he had no, it's sort of like when you talk about Nick, you just like, I have no idea what, like it's the same thing for him. Like he had no clue. Let's say our car quit working, I'm like, Hey, what's going on? My car's not working. Yeah. But she lied to him the whole time. But like if he were to use a car and be like, oh, and. I don't know. Insufficient funds. Yeah. And then he'd be like, Hey honey, what's, and then she said that they got their identity stolen and Oh, I suppose there was like a bunch of crazy lies apparently. Okay. That she told. Dang. Yeah. So that's where I'm like, maybe I should be a little bit more like into my finances. Yeah, I know. I know. Just in case. But like, yeah, I think Craig wouldn't know. Yeah, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. You could totally lie to him, right? Mm-hmm. And he wouldn't. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think it's just weird because he's the man and you always, I mean, I typically think of the man having that kind of knowledge, but if she was the breadwinner, she was the one who was kind of in control of the finances, it makes sense that he wouldn't know. Mm-hmm. And like she, you know, lied her way out. Mm-hmm. Till they got their Oh notice on their door. Yeah. What's it called? Eviction notice. Like that crazy log cabin thing. Yeah. Did you see the pictures of that log cabin bonkers. That huge house that they had, it was like a log cabin. It was really fancy. It was like this, it not just isn't ringing a bell snippet. Oh yeah. It was like a very, it was a very small clip in the Okay. Documentary, but, and then the house that. She got caught in. It was different. It was like the White House. Yeah, it was a rental I think or something they said. But Nick felt so bad for the husband because Yeah, not only were they evicted, they got like a storage unit so he could put all his tools in there. Mm-hmm. And they didn't have the funds to keep paying the storage unit and I guess storage units. So like, you can't pay it, we're gonna sell all your stuff. Yep. So he lost like a lifetime of tools. Those are freaking expensive. Yeah. That is really sad. Someone hit the jackpot there. Yeah. No kidding. What's that? Storage wars. Yeah. Somebody did that and they really balled out. So Nick was like, dang, I feel so bad for the husband. Mm-hmm. But then people were also kind of like, they liked the husband's reaction, but it was about the jobs. Like, you haven't had a job in two years, but the, you know, get outta my house. Go call your parents. Get out. Yeah. And no one was like, you're not gonna question like, why did you bully your daughter? Why are you in love with a teenage boy? You know? Yeah. I don't, I, I don't think it probably, I don't think he probably fully grasped what was happening. There were, there was some stuff that was said that basically they didn't tell him about the text messages until like a few months before the climax of this whole situation, like when she was arrested. He only found out about the texts a few months before that. I think he was a very uninvolved parent from what I had seen. It's kind of typical for like a dad and a, you know, a teenage car, especially if he's working multiple jobs. Yeah. And he's blue collar, so maybe his hours are not something that matches up with, you know, yeah. What hers are. I'm not saying like all father daughters is like that. No, but like for the majority it's a lot of, like, it's difficult. Those are difficult years to connect with a parent. Very like Yeah. Especially to a dad too. Mm-hmm. Okay. The, the Lauren's mom wouldn't have told him about the text messages? No. No way. Obviously she was the one signing em, and I don't think Lauren, Lauren wasn't close with them. Yeah. Yeah. So my voice is very low today. I think I'm using it. So if you're, if you're a a, a father to a teen daughter, just get involved maybe now. Yeah, for sure. For sure. No kidding. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, like I said, there was like a, just a ton of open questions that I'm like, I just want more, like more information. Oh, yeah. From like everything. Yep. I think the sentencing and the charges that were filed were not enough. No, no. Because like it was way undershot in my opinion. Yeah. I mean, all these families were harassed. Mm-hmm. By this one person, but it was also like, I don't recall that there was any. Sexual assault charges filed against her. It should have been the stuff that she was saying to these kids. It's disgusting. Was absolutely atrocious. Like if a man was saying that to literally a girl, literally at that, with that age difference. Don't even wanna say. Even just in general. Yeah. Oh, those text messages where she's like, creamy. Yeah. Ew. A lot of the language was absolutely disgusting. Well, and spelling mm-hmm. Was, but she had to be like that. You know? She had to like mimic herself to be like an underage person, but didn't. True. Didn't you catch, as a millennial, maybe this is silly, but as a millennial, didn't you catch that it was obviously an older person trying to pretend to be someone young. No, she types really, she typed so fast and there was a lot of, like, the language to me seemed like something that people, when I was that age would say, not something that people say now. I maybe, but then she said Low. What does that mean? Did you catch that? Because she calls Lauren and Low and Lauren's like, yeah, there's only a few people that call me that. Right. So, I dunno. Suspicion, I was just, um, it took me back to that series. Reindeer. Oh yes. What's it called? Jinx. We covered that. Uh, yeah, I think it was Rain Baby Reindeer, right? Baby Reindeer. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And that, that Netflix show is about a stalker based on true life, you know? Mm-hmm. Real life events. Um, it's a really good watch, but she would like send him, I think, like 300 emails a day, but like, he had to figure out who this was and he would look through the messages and find out. She like, would make a mistake. Pretty much call herself out accidentally. Mm-hmm. So he's like, oh, I think I know who this is because it's the girl at the bar. Yeah. Yeah. That was a good show too. You watched the whole thing. Mm-hmm. I never saw that. I still think about some of it and, um, because there's like a scene in there and I'm like, I just knew in. You know, just, I'm like, I feel like something's gonna happen. Like something's weird's gonna happen and it happened and I'm like, damnit, I was right. Oh. Oh no. Like just gets stuck in it. Um, so yeah, there's just a couple, um, scenes from Baby Reindeer that just still stick in my head. Mm-hmm. I mean, it was a good series. Mm-hmm. I think everyone should watch it, but maybe I'll have to go back and see it. Yeah. They're kind of long, they're like hour long episodes. Hmm. Maybe went and watch with the kids in the room. No. Mm-hmm. M I'm rewatching Law and Order again right now, and every time the kids come in I have to pause it and be like, okay, go play. I know. What do you want? Yeah. Go away. That's why I get so paranoid when I'm like downstairs in the living room watching by myself, because the kids above could like totally come outta the room, just see the top of stairs, see everything. I'm like, oh, because Nick and I, we were watching the horror movie together. It has. Oh, that's a new one, right? Yeah. Okay. James Franco's brother. I dunno what? Oh, Dave, Dave Franco and his wife. I, I don't know what it is. Allison. Something. Um, it was good. I heard it was really good. What show? It's a movie that just came out together. It's really Mel to, there was huge, um, promotion for that, like on, I've never heard of that. Hulu, I think it was on Hulu. There was this huge promotion going, TikTok, I just saw it. Every other commercial. Was this commercial TikTok about it? I've never heard of it. That's weird. You don't spend enough time online apparently. I feel like I do. So, yeah. Um, that's kind of our takes on the documentary unknown number. If you've watched the series, let us know what you think. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. See if it was like, if it, if it left you satisfied. Okay. Like she got her punishment. Everyone's, you know, living their life now or if you're like me and like, what happened to this? What happened to that? I'm seeing quite a trend lately in Netflix documentaries specifically, not living up to the expectations of viewers and like leaving those potholes kind of in things. I'm seeing that a lot. From just TikTok reviews and stuff like that. Um, you think it's like a cash grab? Yeah, I think so because I think I was listening to this lady from that was talking about the cut. I couldn't find her, but if you literally just look it's there. Um, but she was talking about it and she was basically like, you know, it's interesting because it, everyone's interested in these documentaries. Everyone wants to know more, but it seems like Netflix and other streaming services are more concerned about. Keeping an exciting story, like, I suppose keep having viewers that are excited rather than like actually sharing all the facts of something. Yep. And so, and having like a well-rounded story, the promotion, they don't even have to do much. They can just send out like a couple memes, like I said, and then like everyone wants to know like, what, what's this meme talking about? Right. I wanna be in on it. I was feeling FOMO because Oh, for sure. I kept seeing all the mees. It was everywhere. The mom looking by the phone. Yes, yes. And so like that's literally all you. Like Lil Nas X, when he first started, he would just make memes of himself in the music video and just send it out so people can start talking about this music video. And then that's what got him to number one. Mm-hmm. And then, yeah. Oh, that he sort of had a mental breakdown now also never did Poor guy, what's happening with him, but mm-hmm. Hollywood. Yeah. Probably H weird. H weird. Did you see that? Mm. Oh, he was like walking down the street in his underwear, in cowboy boots. I don't, he was like yelling the middle of the road, singing, dancing in like the middle of the night, three o'clock in the morning or something crazy. Wasn't drunk just or high. They like drug tested him. He was just out in the street doing stuff. Rolling. Yep. Rock. Yeah. H weird. Yeah. Yeah. So, oh yeah, let us know what you thought about a unknown number. Yes. Yeah. And if you have any, um, other documentaries. That are really good. Um, I, I love doing this, like when we all watch the same show and then we talk about it. I love that. Take care of Maya is what it's called. Oh, what is that about? Uh, Munchausen by proxy. Oh, that's the little girl one, right? No, no, no, no, no. That's, this is where the mom had to No, I'm getting it confused with unknown number. The mom had to, I think the mom had ANR herself, so Yes. What, yeah. Here. Hold on. Netflix is loaded. I'm thinking of that one. Oh my gosh, I don't remember what it's called. Natalia Grace. That's what I'm thinking of. Yeah, that's a, that's a complicated series. Yes. I watched it through and through and I'm like, I am. Who's the bad guy? Yeah. You never know. No. Which again is one where I'm saying like, who is this a well-run story? Like did they get all the information? Is there stuff that we're missing? Like I'm just, I dunno. It was a hot story. Yeah, she was on Dr. Phil, but then yeah. Oh, I'm just that whole series. Just mind. Fuck. Yes. Take care of Maya. Yep. Okay. Yep. Give us the synopsis. Beta Klowski wanted to only protect her ailing daughter, but when her motives are questioned, her struggle becomes a mother's worst nightmare. Hmm. This isn't based on that lady who supposedly her child had brain cancer. Right. And it actually ended up being her second kid that died because of. Some sort of like cancerous. I don't think Maya's passed. Okay. All right. I'll have to look that. I think it was something like wrong with like the medical field and how they weren't able to. Support the mother. Its decisions like, because she, I think she was questioning things and they're like, well, we can't do anything. Well, I don't know. Yeah, it's been a while since I've seen it, but I just remember being with done with that documentary being like, wow, that was an excellent bonkers. Okay. Storytelling. You'll have to put that in the group chat so that I can remember. I will not remember. Oh, yeah, I'm on it. Wow. Let us know your thoughts, opinions, and just say hi. Yeah. Sounds good. Yeah, been today's Friday actually. We're doing this so we're gonna like make our posts today. Yeah, yeah. If there's one, I dunno if, we'll, if we have one, I'm not sure we show you to try. Okay. Because is a busy lady. I'm a busy lady. Me too ladies'. About to get busier. Oh my gosh. Let's talk about it in the next episode. And this is a shorty, so we'll, we'll, we'll see you in the next one in my head and Issa and Sarah. Bye. Bye.
