The Coping Cabana - A Grief Podcast
Did someone you love die, and now you don’t know what tf to do with yourself? Welcome to The Coping Cabana. Take a break from the metaphorical heat that is everything else in your life, and join your host Alexa Greenberg in the shade where it’s comfortable.
We don't think about grief and loss until we’re forced to go through it personally. So when it inevitably happens, we find ourselves isolated, emotionally and physically inundated, and, if we’re honest, absolutely fucking losing it every time someone asks *us* to tell *them* if *we* need anything.
That’s where The Coping Cabana comes in. Each episode, Alexa will be joined by either real people experiencing grief, or experts in the grief, death, and loss space to discuss how to deal with grief in a human way.
When Alexa lost her mom, one of the only things that helped was talking to other people who had been through significant loss. Although hope and comfort can be hard to find during this time, there is something healing about sharing in the depth of that feeling with other people who know it.
So, grab your grief, and stay a while. We’ll get through this together.

In this episode, Alexa talks with Lori Hammeras, an extraordinary woman whose wisdom and kindness have been a guiding light in Alexa's own grief journey.
Lori, a retired teacher, dedicated runner, an artist, and now a proud grandmother, shares her poignant story of loss and healing after losing her mother at the tender age of 21. As the mother of our producer, Summer, Lori played a pivotal role in Alexa's life after the passing of her own mother. Her insights became a source of strength and a compass for navigating the tumultuous waves of grief.
In this emotional episode, Lori and Alexa delve into the universal challenges of the mother-daughter relationship, exploring the profound impact of losing a mother and the quest for purpose amidst the pain.
The conversation covers topics such as mentorship, rebuilding friendships after loss, and finding solace in the subtle signs the universe provides. Lori's reflections on major life milestones without a mother's presence resonate deeply, and her rituals to honor loved ones serve as poignant reminders of resilience.
This episode is a candid exploration of emotions, including anger and cynicism, commonly experienced in grief. Lori's insights on navigating these emotions, the changing nature of grief over the years, and the importance of supportive family dynamics create a compelling narrative of hope and strength.
A little disclaimer: Recorded a few weeks before the one-year anniversary of Alexa's mother's passing, emotions are raw, but the authenticity and insightfulness of the dialogue remain intact.
