Discover the untold story of Grace Hopper, the mother of computer programming, as we pay homage to a woman whose brilliance in STEM reshaped our digital world. Get ready to be inspired by the legacy of a trailblazing mathematician and US Navy Rear Admiral who didn't just break the glass ceiling but shattered it completely, ensuring that computer coding was accessible to all. This month's edition of Love u, Miss u, Bye is a celebration of Women's History Month and a tribute to a woman whose life's work forms the very foundation of the technology we rely on every day.

Embark on a journey through the remarkable achievements of Grace Hopper, as I share anecdotes and insights that illuminate the life of this extraordinary pioneer. With COBOL still at the heart of telecommunications infrastructure, we unpack how Hopper's tenacity led her to overcome a decade of skepticism and mockery, eventually influencing 80% of computer code worldwide. Grace's story isn't just about technology, but about the power of perseverance and the triumph of innovation against all odds. So, tune in and join us for an engaging look at one of the leading figures in the history of computing, and carry forward the spirit of Grace Hopper in your day-to-day tech encounters. Speaker 1:

Hi and welcome to Love you. Miss you, bye. This is a love-mup drop and I do it every first of the month. I tell you a new woman that rocked our world. It's part of the calendar that I got and I absolutely love it. But not only that, it is also Women History Month.

Speaker 1:

What a perfect time to introduce this next clip. It's March. It's not really roaring in like a lion here in Texas, it's kind of calm. Today it was like 60 out. I don't know how it is where you are, but I hope that it's subtle and perfect. Anyway, have a great month and on with the clip Love, love drop.

Speaker 1:

So March 2024, it is Grace Hopper, and she was born in 1906 and passed away in 1992. So the year after I graduated high school. She was a visionary who broke barriers for women in STEM and paved the way for technology to be accessible to everyone. So at the bottom, there are some things about her that I want to share with you. Grace Hopper mathematician, computer scientist, us Navy Rear Admiral and all around genius. Grace Hopper pioneered the technology that shapes today's telecommunications landscape.

Speaker 1:

In the 1940s and 50s, computers were programmed through machine code, unintelligible beyond an elite circle of experts, until Grace invented C-O-B-O-L Common Business Oriented Language a simplified, more accessible system that allowed programmers to focus on higher level creative thinking without being bogged down by tedious equations. Despite a decade of considerable resistance and mocking from the high priests of coding as she called them, gatekeepers of expertise who felt their status was threatened, grace ultimately prevailed. Some 80% of computer code in use around the world was based on C-O-B-O-L. This was a pioneer. Thank you, grace, absolutely amazing. Love you, ms Shabai.
