About Martin:

Martin Parnell, a passionate advocate for gender equality in sports, was deeply moved by a woman’s determination to run a marathon in Afghanistan despite societal barriers. While recovering from a brain clot, Martin learned about her perseverance, training tirelessly within the confines of her walled garden before traveling to Bamiyan, in the foothills of the Hindu Kush Mountains, to achieve her goal.

This story resonated with him, highlighting the stark inequities women face in Afghanistan, where men could openly participate in running events while women faced persecution for the same. Inspired by her courage, Martin channeled his own experiences and recovery journey into advocating for equal opportunities and supporting women athletes around the world.
