Welcome to Discover Fresh Perspectives! In today's episode, host David Gouthro sits down with expert guest Michael Kerr to dive into the transformative power of humour—especially in challenging times. Michael draws from both personal experience and compelling research to reveal how laughter isn't just a distraction, but an essential human trait that helps us cope with stress, build resilience, foster authentic connections, and create more vibrant workplaces.
From tales of overcoming the fear of public speaking with juggling pinecones, to insights about why humour matters now more than ever, this conversation is filled with relatable stories, practical tips, and moments of wit. Together, David and Michael explore the line between humour and insensitivity, how to find your unique comedic voice (even if you don’t consider yourself funny), and why humour is about much more than telling jokes. They remind us that laughter can be infectious, healing, and a powerful tool for learning and growth—at any age.
So, whether you want to make your workdays lighter, strengthen your team, or just laugh a little more in your everyday life, this episode will inspire you to see the sense in humour and embrace it as a valuable asset. Join us for an engaging, uplifting, and, yes, humorous conversation on Discover Fresh Perspectives.
About Michael
Michael Kerr grew up as a painfully shy, introverted child. Despite his quiet nature, Michael always found humour to be a lifeline, helping him connect with his immediate circle of friends. Even as a young adult, his sense of humour allowed him to come out of his shell a little more. Although people often assume that standing in front of audiences of thousands makes him an extrovert, Michael insists otherwise; his love for humour has been a lifelong passion that continues to help him break barriers and bring laughter to others.
