pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

And then McDavid, uh, was the winner of this one as well. He went four for four in less than 10 seconds. So like, just imagine that, like he didn't miss a target once and he killed all four targets in under 10 seconds. Hey everybody. Welcome to another edition of Shoot the Puck. Welcome back as usual. I'm your host Pat driving the bus. And as always, Matt's on the other mic with me and we are here and bringing you some, uh, hockey news notes, rumors, bit of fun. It's all wrapped together. Just, uh, two guys, two brothers talking hockey life, lifelong fans, and we're gonna try to make a mess of what we're gonna talk about and, uh, see what comes out on the other side. So, Matt, how are you?

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yo brother Pat, how are you? Yeah, doing good. Got a bunch of crazy snow yesterday up here in PA and, you know, tri-state area, so it was a bit of a mess with the work week and, you know, chaos and all that. But yeah, all star break's done now. So, you know, second half is starting and now, you know, a couple teams are second, third game in I think about right, if I'm correct on that. So yeah. But yeah, we're gonna start off with, uh, probably the all star recap since that was the, you know, the hot topic last episode.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah, so Allstar weekend, we are post that now. Now the next big thing is, uh, trade deadline that's coming up in March. So that's, uh, the second half of

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Right around the corner.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

fully on people making the sprint, trying to get their, uh, trying to get their legs underneath them and, uh, fresh off the Allstar break. So trying to make that stretch to playoff time. So, uh, yeah, I guess we'll talk a little bit about the. The Allstar game and what sort of happened. And I personally I love the Allstar game. I love watching now. I don't always get to watch it, but I do like it. I like the format and all that kind of stuff. So I really enjoy what the, uh, what the Allstar game, you know, brings and sort of how they do it, uh, you know, things of that nature. So I really, uh, I really like the way they do it. And, uh, I liked the skills competition as well the night before. We'll talk about that in a minute. But basically, uh, team Matthews here, uh, defeats Team Hughes, the, uh, in, in, in the, uh, all-star games. So, uh, I had, we had it on where were we, Matt? We were together.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

We were at our cousin Noah's, uh, birthday slash grad party. Yeah. So he had it on up there'cause he's a big Rangers fan and we were all,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Shout out to him.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah. Shout out to him. Not that he's a Rangers fan, forget that part of it, but shout out to him. That'd be awesome.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

So, uh, yeah, I, and I remember having it on, uh, he had it on the TV there, whatnot, so I really couldn't hear anything. But every now and then I'd glance over and, uh, you know, just kind of, you know, catch the action and whatnot. But, uh, yeah, I thought it was very well, well done. And it, uh, brought in some decent ratings from what I understand, uh, as, as well. But yeah, team

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I did see that.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

uh, team Matthews, defeating Team Hughes, uh, in there. So, it was, let me see here. Alex de Brink, it had, uh, two

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. He scored the winner in the shootout.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah. Yep. So two goals there. Two goals of regulation and the shootout winner. So technically he had three. It's, uh, team matthews,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

cat.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

defeat and Team Hughes, six to five. And so

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Right on.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

at the Scotiabank Arena up there in Toronto. So that's, uh, made all the, uh, the Leafs folks happy, uh, the fans that were up there. So that was, uh, it was good to see there. And then, uh, but leading up to that, uh, it looks like Team McDavid came back to beat Team McKinnon four three in the shootout in the first semifinal game. So, like I said, I caught bits and pieces of it'cause we were. We were away and you know, just it was on in the background, so I didn't get a whole good look at it. But just from what I've, from what I've seen, uh, that was, uh, it seemed like a interesting, uh, interesting game and whatnot. So, yeah, a lot of players gotten in on the, uh, on the scoring. So, uh, Philip Forsburg had, uh, two goals in assist. Uh, Matthew Baral had three assists, and Mitch Martyr, the other Toronto guy up there, uh, he also scored for Team Matthews. So, uh, Jay, er stopping like eight to 10. In the first period there, uh, kin, he made seven sa It looks seven saves here on 10 shots in the second period. And then, uh, didn't allow a goal on, uh, he was a stonewall on the shootout. So stopping all four attempts there,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

How about, uh, my boy Frankie V two goals in an assist

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

there.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Frankie Val. Yeah, man, he looked good too. And, but yeah, I mean, kind of maybe we'll touch on him in a couple weeks here, but word on the street is that he might be, uh, getting traded out of Anaheim, but you know, that's just rumors for now. But Yeah, he had two goals in assist and uh, yeah, Quinn Hughes had three assists too, and Kucher Off had a goal in Assist for Team Hughes. So, Talbot four saves on six shots in the first period, and then Thatcher Demco stopped seven of 10 shots in the second. So, yeah, I mean, a solid play all around from everybody involved. But yeah, I just thought Frankie v Man, and like he's been kind of turning it on too, and it'd be really interesting to see if he gets to a better team. Coming up here in the trade deadline, I'd definitely be interested to see if he gets picked up somewhere else.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah, I think he's got some, I think he's got some game to him. So, uh, interested to see who, you know, quote unquote rents him for, you know, the second half of the season and sees, uh, see if he can help somebody, you know, to a cup. So, uh, always like to, uh, see that from some of the lesser known, you know, players here. I think we talked about it

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Young cats,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

people out, west. Unless you're on the Vegas Golden Knights or you know, one of the more pop, you know, Chicago Black Hawks, one of the more

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

la kings,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

you kind of get lost, right? You just kinda, you're just kind of existing, you know, that kind of thing. So it's,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

for sure.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Always good to see some of the lesser known players get, uh, get some recognition and get some good playing time on a decent team. So, so, yeah. So I thought, uh, overall I thought, uh, that the, uh, the game went really well. Uh, people seemed to enjoy it. The fans were, from what I saw were into it. And, uh, some really good hospitality up there in Toronto. And, yeah it just, you know, uh, you know, viewership and whatnot, that was all, you know, pretty much on par, uh, with the other, uh, the other years. So, uh, it seems like the game is, it's at least, uh, it's at least on par and, you know, potentially growing you know, year after year. So can't, uh, can't argue that. So, but the night before, so that was on Saturday, uh, so the night before. All star, was the, uh, the skills competition. Yeah. And like I said, I always loved the, uh, the skills competition and I actually watched a good chunk of that. I watched, uh, I wanna say two thirds of that, and then and then I was running an errand somewhere and I missed the last, uh, maybe the last 15, 20 minutes of it. So for those that don't know, they do, they do a couple skills, uh, a couple, uh, uh, what's the word I'm looking for? Uh, competition, uh, pieces there. And then they pick they pick four or five players for each skill, competition. And then see who kind of wins with the most points, you know, at the end sort of thing. So, so as far as the skills, you got the fastest skater, uh, one timers. Uh, then you have the passing, uh, the passing challenge and then also, uh, hardest shot, and then the stick handling. And I think the accuracy was the last one. No, I'm sorry. Uh, the one on there was one-on-ones and then obstacle course. So there was eight competitions, all, you know, all together. And like I said, I think I, I actually left like halfway through the one-on-ones, so it's, you know, goalie versus, you know, shooter sort of thing. So I did not see parts of that. And then I didn't see the obstacle. Course. I don't think I saw that either, but but I, like I said, I watched two thirds of it and man, I'll tell you what, man, there is some, like, the skill out there is just, it's just unbelievable. Some of this stuff is just so crazy, but

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Guys are incredible.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

just insane. It's just insane. So you had the fastest skater. Right. So, on, you know, on deck for that was Connie McDavid, Matthew Baral, Quint Hughes, kale McCarr, and William, uh, Lander from Toronto. And so, MC uh, McDavid was the winner for that. But I think he was the favorite for that, to be honest with you. But he's just he's, insane. Like McDavid is just insane on so many levels. It's not even like you just watch him play and you're like, damn, that guy is just, there's something special about that guy. And he's got that, like, he is such a heavy competitive streak. E even inside the all-star game or the all the skills competition, which guys are just kind of taking it easy. It's just. It's just. fun, blah, blah, blah. Nah not McDavid. He's pushing, you know, he's pushing to win. Like, he's just insane with the competitiveness he has and the skills to go along with it. So. The fastest skater. Like I said, McDavid was the winner of the fastest skater. He came in at 13.4 seconds and I was just like, what in the, like, that is just, and for the, for those that don't know, the fastest skater is one cons consecutive, one trip around the rink from start to finish. So, yeah, he did that in 13, 13.4 seconds and Matthew Barlow was close at 13.51 seconds. Then everyone else is.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Right behind him.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Everyone else was in the fourteens, right? Hughes Kar and Neland were in the fourteens. But just, it's just unbelievable that, it's just insane on how quick that guy is from a skating perspective. And he previously won in 2017. In 13 seconds. 13 seconds flat.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Wow.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

He shaved off a freaking half a second

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Almost under 12. Wow.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

insane. And then 2018 he had, he was at 13 four again, in 2019 he had 13 three. So man, he is just, he's unreal. It's just insane.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

like I said, he was slightly faster than Bar who Barnell wanted it in 2020. So

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah. I knew he won it recently in the last couple years. I remember that. Remember watching him win it,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

So that was cool. So yeah, so, so yeah, so the fastest skater, mainly between Barcel and McDavid with McDavid winning this round at 13.4 seconds. Like just whew, just insanity.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Shaking in a moving man, I tell you.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

boy. Yeah. And then you had the, you had the next one was one timers, so, you know. Yeah. So

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I always love those.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

So, so that was that. I, yeah, the one time shot in hockey is so crazy. So, but yeah, this was actually a new event for this year which

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

there was a couple of them.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

yeah which I think is good. You kind of have the spice of life in there a little bit and kind make sure things aren't getting, uh, stale or

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Stale. Yeah.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

but but basically it is what exactly what it is, right? So players had to puck pass to them and they had to shoot. Without, you know, just being at a one timer without the puck stopping, they had to shoot it and hit the net. And so, you know, really like, no, like gimmicks or bells or whistles or any of that kind of thing. It's literally just a soft pass and bang. You're just blaring into the net. So, and so,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

it, getting the points.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

yeah, points and then each. I guess each one timer was from a different angle, so they progressively get more difficult as the, you know, as your, as the time goes on. So that was interesting. Uh, there, so your, uh, you your com competitors and Allen were, uh, Nathan McKinnon, uh, pasta, uh, Leon Dral. Elias Patterson Kucher off JT, Miller Barza again, and Austin Matthews. And the winner of that one was McKinnon. He had 23 points and then you had,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

snuck out pasta with 22, so you just beat him. But well actually dry side and Pederson both had 22, so all three of those guys were right there. But yeah McKinnon snuck it out. But yeah, no surprise there from McKinnon'cause man, whew. That kid could shoot his ass off too.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

I mean, that's, yeah, that's no surprise. I mean, he's got 20,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Not surprising at

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

23 points in that competition and yeah, that's not a surprise. He ranks second in the NHL with 84 points this season. So it's like the guy knows how to put the pluck on the net, that's for sure.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

He knows what he is doing.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

So, yeah. So even, uh, just a fun note. Connor McDavid or, yeah, Conor Mcda. Connor Bedard, who's. Out with a broken jaw. He fed, he, he showed up and was basically feed pa feeding passes to pasta and matthew Baral. Yeah. So at least he got a little bit of work in on his, uh, you know, on his All Star game. So.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Yeah.'cause he was supposed to be there, but obviously wasn't because of his broken jaw situation. So, but yeah, he was supposed to be, uh, you know, a starter in the all-star stuff, but, you know, we'll, definitely, I'm sure we'll see him in there again, no doubt about that. But yeah. But it was actually pretty cool that he showed up and at least got to participate in somewhat, you know, in any facet. So that's pretty cool.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah, for sure. Yeah. So then the next one is the passing challenge, and this was a new one as well. Players began behind their, behind the net and had 45 seconds to skate, uh, back and forth up the ice, and basically aiming passes into a cluster of like small targets kind of thing. So. It's almost like one of those things where you play it like a carnival game. Like you try to get the, you know, the ball in the clown's mouth kind of thing.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Right, right, right.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

basically just way of you know, it's just to, to see their, you know, the precision and the passing and all that. Uh. All that sort of thing. And I was listening to somebody, I forget who it was, but one of them said it was kind of harder because like they're used to, they're used to the target actually moving, so they're anticipating that pass to go to, you know, a certain point. But these targets were standing still, so it was a little harder for them to kind of adjust to that because usually. If they're going at the, you know, such crazy speeds that the game is such, is so intense that

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. You're thinking ahead,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

yeah, the targets are always moving. So you kind of anticipate for that. But these were still, so it was a different, uh, it was a little different for them. Which totally, I mean, to me makes sense. Right. So,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

right? Yeah, for sure.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

But anyway, you had, uh, you had Patterson Mcclar, uh, Zel, Austin Matthews Lander and McKinnon Quinn Hughes Tridel, Connie McDavid, JT Miller, and Nikita Cutoff. Uh, in this one, in the winner is, was Elias Patterson. He had 25, uh, 25 points. So he, uh, his passing game was top notch. so so yeah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Hell of a year. He's having too up there in Canuck.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

A hundred percent. A hundred percent. So yeah, so that was a good one. I did like that one. It was it was very

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I saw, uh, I saw, uh, I saw, uh, Nikita KU off. They were giving you Toronto.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Oh

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

bit of grief. They were like huge

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

yeah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

because he wasn't having a great time there with this event, uh, you know, this particular

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

it in, man.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

He was like, oh, he was on the struggle bus in that one. So the Toronto fans were

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

People were giving him shit. He was mailing it in the whole all-star challenge, like the whole skills challenge. And people were just like, oh my God, get outta here. You know, that kind of thing. But

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yep. yeah, he was having a little bit of a rough time there, but yeah, crowd definitely heard him, but I was kind of laughing at that when I saw a little bit of the highlights.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah, for sure. And so Paterson, uh, like I said, he finished, he was winning with 25 points. He's obviously playing in Vancouver, uh, for the Canucks. He's got 30 sevens in 49 games this year. So that's, uh, that's a decent, that's a decent number. No, Not too shabby. at all. Not too shabby. So, uh, like that one. Here's my favorite one. My favorite one is the hardest shot. I love this event, man.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Boys let him

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

ripping it, uh, lip let it rip and see where it lands, boy. And it just, man, you're hitting that gun. You're hitting that clock, so,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

to see smoke coming off those

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

oh, it's gonna be awesome. That would Oh, so cool. But yeah, so hardest shot there was, uh, only what, six here? Five. Five here. Five. Uh, McCarr, JT Miller, Austin Matthews, pasta, and Paterson. And, uh, McCarr had the winner at 102 and a half miles an hour. Just think about that. 102.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

and, uh, Paterson won It last year. He won it last year. with 1 0 3 0.2. So yeah, man, those guys are sticking around. That 1 0 2, 1 0 3. I mean, I don't know if we'll see it, man, with nobody. I don't, does Daniel o Charro had 1 0 8 0.8.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

years ago. Yeah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

And I just don't know if anybody, I mean, I'm sure maybe somebody down the line will, but I mean that you don't really see big boys like him anymore. You know what I mean? Like he was what, every bit of freaking like 6 10, 6 9. And then on skates probably, you know, he is probably close to seven foot, let's just put it that way, on skates. And just the amount of torque he had with his, I mean his just long arms, long shoulder man. Whew. Yeah. I would not wanna stand in front of, uh, if I was even a goalie, I'd probably just move outta the way. Just,

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

that's just wild.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah. But, uh, yeah, it was good to see him

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah. So Big Z had that 1 0 8, almost 1 0 9. He was two ticks away from 1 0 9, uh, a couple years ago. Then really there was no ovett or Stamp Coast this year for the all star stuff. So, which those guys live and die by the slap shot. Right. So shout out to Obie. I think he's like 50, 59, uh, goals away from tying Gretzky's record 60 to break it. I think he's 60 to break it. 59 to tie something like that. Like just insane. Just,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

and he's been having a, he's been having a decent couple games here the last couple games. He's been on back on track and scoring

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Starting to get the burner going. Yeah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. So, hey man, if he can, I'm not sure what, when, you know, when retirement looks like for him, but if he can stick around for at least another year, I would assume

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

was gonna say I think he could

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I would

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

years. I think he could do it in another two years. If he can hang on, if he's just average over the next two years, I think he could do it.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I think so. Yeah. And that'd be pretty insane. to see.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Gretzky's considered the greatest, one of the greatest to ever play a sport, right? Just period. Not even just hockey, just a sport in general. His nickname is the great one, and all of a sudden you got like, you got ovechkin just creeping on his toes. Like, that's just insanity,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

I hope I, I hope he does it. Not'cause I wanna see Gretzky go down, but man, that would be cool just to, you know, just live through that. I think that'd be cool.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Absolutely. You don't get to see that very often.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

No, for sure. So like you said, Matt, last year, uh, Pederson won it with 103.2 and then, um. MCC car's actually had like almost 20 shots this year between 90 and a hundred miles an hour in an actual game. So That's just wild to me. So that's just insane. So obviously MCC car being a uh, he's, you know. He's gonna be a Norris Trophy favorite this year. Right. So, and

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I would think

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

you know, uncorking at 102.5 mile an hour rocket shirt certainly will help that cause. So, but yeah, it's just, uh, just insane 102. But yeah. I'm curious to see if in the next couple years anybody gets close to Big Z at 108.'cause that's

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Would love to see it. Would love to see it. But yeah, you, I think you'd need another big, uh, another big boy to, to try and get that torque and trying to get that, that, uh, momentum to move that puck that fast.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

For sure. And the next one, uh, that they had, uh, was the stick handling, uh, event. So basically it was they had the stick handle through like, uh, 2020 or so, like glowing pucks. And, uh, they did like a little backwards weave kind of thing around cardboard cutouts. And then

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Like an agility course kind of

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Kind of like agility kind of thing. And then they went down to the, you know, to, to the net. Then they had to kind of do a toe drag around a, like a, not a stick laying there, but, uh, some sort of obstacle there to get the puck off the ground or you get around that. So they little toe drag action and they had to actually fire, fire the net and get in the net to, for it to count. So, so, uh, so I thought that was cool. Again, you had, let's see here. You had a bunch of people on this one, McDavid, Zel, uh, Lander McKinnon, dry Seidel Hughes, uh, Petterson, pasta and Kuro, who's, you know, mailing it in. But I. but, uh, the winner of that one was McDavid. He had 25. It took him 25.75 seconds to get through, uh, all of that. So, uh, Barza was right there, At 26.9. So, almost, you know. You know, two, a second and a half or two seconds, Later. So yeah, McDavid just buried everybody. You know, and all that kind of thing. So it was, that was a cool one. I mean, you had some guys with some issues on that course, right? So you had, uh, uh, coff, um. He kinda lost the puck, uh, early on. And then Vancouver, uh, Vancouver, uh, uh, uh, Paterson. He blew a tire coming off the cut for the, around the one, the cardboard, uh, cardboard cutouts. And then pasta made all the way through. All the way through the thing and didn't put the puck in the net. He fired it wide. I was just like, dude, how do you, get all that way and fire it wide on a lazy shot? Like, oh my goodness. He was like 10 feet out and he missed the net, so he had to go retrieve the puck and put it back in, like put it in for the clock to actually stop. He had a shot at McDavid, but missing the neck, completely screwed him over. And I was like, oh, come on man.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

that sucks.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

He got through the hard part

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

go all that way.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

missed a wide open net from like 10 feet. I was like, dude, what are you

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

easiest part that he should be doing with how well he could score the goal in NHL games and he can't even put it in. Oh man. Just probably overthink it and it was just like, ah, this is going in

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

That's so crazy.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

it wide.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yep. So, So, that was cool. So yeah, McDavid, uh, the winner of that 1 25, uh, 0.7, uh, seconds on that one. Like I said, everyone else was, Barza was the closest, but he wasn't, you know, he was a good, you know, second. A second. Uh. Plus on that. So three always. I did like that one. That was a cool one. Uh, next was the accuracy one. So this one's been around for a while. So basically the

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I always like this one

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

yeah, this is a good one. Guys stand at, you know, I forget how many feet from the net. But basically had four targets in the four corners of the net, and you had to shoot pucks and, you know, and chip every one of them.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yep. Two up top, two down, low on each

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

correct.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

and you just gotta as fast as you can. Make all four of'em go away.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yep. So another healthy dose of players here. McDavid Matthews, JT Miller, uh, Lander Hughes, McKinnon, coochie, uh, McCarr, uh, pasta and dry cidal. And this is kind of their signature event, I would say. Uh, it's been around for a

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, definitely one of their top ones. Yeah.

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Yeah, exactly. So that was, uh, I was like, uh, I was like, uh, this one as well. And then McDavid, uh, was the winner of this one as well. He went four for four in less than 10 seconds. So like, just imagine that, like he didn't miss a target once and he killed all four targets in under 10 seconds. Uh, was it 9.15 seconds to be exact. Just insanity. Like

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, and Matthews was right behind

pat-allen_1_02-14-2024_210551:

Matthews was two tenths behind him. So 9.3, Yeah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

So both. Yeah, no shocker from either one of those guys with how well they can score and shoot the puck, but yeah, that's to do it that fast. To do it that fast is crazy.

Track 1:

Yeah. Austin Matthews was not that far behind. Three tenths of a second behind them. And then everyone else, like JT Miller and Lander, they're

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

double digits.

Track 1:

Yeah, double digits, 13 seconds plus. And it's just like, man, that's crazy. But, uh, but yeah, always loved that one. The accuracy shooting is sort of the classic event that the all star game is, or the skills comp is known for. So, uh, I always like watching that one and man, it's just hitting all four targets in under 10 seconds is just, it's just insanity to me. It's just wild.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Crazy, talented and quick with the wrist, man. It's just

Track 1:

And I gotta be honest, like if he was shooting the puck, like he could have probably went 10 for 10. Like he just, the way he was shooting was just automatic. The guy was just unreal.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yep. Yeah, on point. Yeah. Him and Matthews, like I said, no surprise up there that either one of those guys were in the top, you know, under the 10.'cause those guys can score it well, pretty much, especially this, you know, especially Matthews this season. I mean, that dude's been on fire, so there's no, definitely no shocker there.

Track 1:

Yeah. And then the next one was the one-on-ones. So one-on-one with the goalie kind of thing. And I, I believe from, and like I said, this was the event that I had to get up and I had to run an errand, but I believe the shooter got to pick the goalie that they shot against, if I'm not mistaken. And so, um. It was crazy. Uh, just so from my understanding, it's shot after shot for 60 seconds. And then, um, so the pairings, I guess you call them, uh, Neander and Cam Talbot, uh, Austin Matthews and Thatcher. Demco t Miller and Jeremy Sw. Uh, Baral and, uh, Igor Kin, Kester, kale, Kar and Con, uh, Connor, uh, Connor Helle Buck, geez, uh, Patterson and Jake Inger. Uh, McDavid and Alexander, uh, Giev, and then McKinnon and Sergey, uh, Browski.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

And Bob. Good old Bob.

Track 1:

the Bob. Shout out to Bob, the former flyer. But yeah, uh, those were the pairings and the winner was, uh, Lander and Cam Talbot. They had, uh, nine, uh, well, Neland had nine points against Talbot, so

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

And, uh, It was funny. They asked him and he is like, Neander chose to, to shoot against King's Cam Talt because he's standing right in front of me. No sign. No, no scientific proof or anything. Just like, eh, easier.

Track 1:

Yeah. There he is. He's just over there. Yeah,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Sure.

Track 1:

it was crazy. But man, some of the goalies fans look really good.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

It was the most, it was mostly a goalies, you know, outing there. I thought. I thought maybe some of the deaks would've dangled and strangled their way in there. But, uh, yeah, no go. The, a lot of the goalies looked, uh, real solid.

Track 1:

Yeah, so Barovsky looked like he was in playoff for him as he just allowed one goal from McKinnon. That was it. I was like, damn, you're doing that one-on-one from McKinnon. You're doing something right.'cause McKinnon's a fucking assassin like that guy can shoot. Uh, Lander, he got obviously the winner, uh, he got the best attempt, uh, of Camp Talbot and then Austin Matthews is just sick. He's just got hands that are just silky smooth and he's ba He basically showed why he's leading the league and. You know, with 40 goals as he completely,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Dominates.

Track 1:

he embarrassed. Yeah, he embarrassed. Thatcher Demco on a couple of like, highlight reel deaks. Like, it's just insane. So yeah. So that was awesome. But then Georgi came back and he was, uh, the top goalie, uh, with nine saves. And the fact that they came against Connor McDavid is even Than that. I was like, wow,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

saw that too, and I was like, wow. With highlights and stuff that I was watching, I didn't get to watch all of it. I watched a couple of the early stuff things, and then, like you said, pat, I was out for the rest of the night and just tuned in here or there. But yeah, I did see that. Uh, and I was like, wow that's just shocker. I did not see, uh, not see that performance coming from give

Track 1:

Yep. Yeah, exactly. So, and then the last one, the last, uh, so that basically after that, after all those off. Seven. Uh,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

competitions. Yep.

Track 1:

Yeah, I was struggling to find that word. Uh, they basically, then the top six players are based off points

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Went to a final competition. Yeah.

Track 1:

like a final kind of thing. And it was an obstacle course. Right. So they started at the center. The red line in the center, they had to skate around the net and stick handle through a set of, uh, randomly like lit obstacles and then basically, you know, quote unquote sauce three pucks into mini nets. And then after that, they had to weave through. It says here, an oversized Pepsi can type obstacles before firing the puck into a regulation size net. So. That was quite the, uh, quite the obstacle of course there.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Sounds like it.

Track 1:

and it sounds like it's pretty difficult. I would think, uh, especially with those, the mini nets, like that's a big adjustment for, you know, from a regulation size net. And these guys are used to hitting the regulation size, so let's find that interesting. It looks like there was what? So the top six here, the six that made it, I should say, uh, McDavid, kale, McCarr, Austin Matthews Lander, JT Miller and Matthew Baral. And so, winner was McDavid

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Shocker.

Track 1:

40 and a half seconds. And then uh, basically, uh. I guess Barza was having trouble. He couldn't get the, he couldn't get the puck to land in those tiny nets. And then Lander breezed through most of the obstacle course before. I guess he put a shot off the crossbar and that might've been the winning, you know, that the winning time. But He, basically missed like a million dollar shot.'cause the prize at the end was a million dollars. And so Lander ringing that. Ringing that shot off the crossbar, basically opened the door for McDavid, who basically only needed to finish in the top two to win the All Star like competition kind of thing. And of course he didn't disappoint at all. Ca he came in 40 seconds, you know, 40 seconds and you 40 and a half seconds. And he was there. The next closest one was Kale McCart at 43 and a half seconds. So McDavid was a good three seconds ahead of everybody. Or at least yeah, the, his closest competition.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. So not too close. Yeah.

Track 1:

no. No. But, uh, Neil, uh, uh, MCDA got a million bucks.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I saw that. Yeah. Million dollar prize winner, man. Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure he will. I'm sure he'll be, you know, probably donating it or whatnot. You know, usually stuff with, Yeah. usually stuff with all star stuff, you know, in, in all sports genres across, when they have all star stuff, they always do a lot of stuff for charities and groups and whatnot. So yeah, it'd be good. But yeah, I mean, man, McDavid really shined in that and obviously For good reasons, because he is who he is. But yeah. But, uh, Barel was right there too with him right behind And Matthews, you know, a couple, both of those, I think those guys were really the closest that were kind of, you know, showing on some good stuff. So, but yeah. Pretty good Allstar weekend. Like I said, I didn't catch too much of it, just, you know, when it was on here and there and as I was doing some stuff, but yeah, I did watch it re you know,'cause DNT and stuff like that and, you know, they always replay a lot of stuff so you can just like re-click or, you know. Just replay the whole thing again, you know what I mean? Like on demand. So I did watch that one night. I maybe flipped on like the first, you know, hour or two after that and watched like the whole thing and pieced it over the weekend and whatnot. So, yeah. But it was cool, man. I liked that they did a lot of new stuff. Like a lot of the new skill stuff and you know, they had a couple new events in there that they really threw in. Then Toronto really seemed, you know, to really like that atmosphere. I heard really good things about sales and just the boost in the economy up there and like Toronto's got some good things on the up and rise and, or even talking about maybe bringing something Toronto, uh, MLB wise, like all-star game again, back up there.'cause I don't think there's been one up there for a while. So yeah, Toronto's really on the move in the last couple years trying to. Make that a real hub for cool things, you know, sports related, especially hockey'cause they're such, you know, huge hockey fans up there. So yeah, it was good to see them do a good weekend and have everybody come out and support all the players and support hockey in general. And yeah, get some good numbers out of it.

Track 1:

Yeah, for sure. It, uh, like I said I heard the same things, you know, a lot of, uh, you know, a lot of good, uh, uh, good things like economy boosting and, you know, some, just some good, you know, good fans and good hockey all, you know, all the way through. So, yeah, I'm really interested to see if any sort of numbers come out. With that and see what happens there. But it just seems like the Allstar game is really, it's really well done from the NH L's perspective. Like, you know, we've talked on this show before that NHL has a long way to go with a lot of things and they continually seem to shoot themselves in the foot with some things. But I think the Allstar game, uh, I think they do. I think they do it right. I think it's, uh, it's a real sort of flagship for the NHL as a sport and you know, league here in, in the Americas. And, uh, it, it seems to be, uh, at least steady and, uh, potentially, you know, just ever creeping you know, growing in this, you know, here in, in the States. So always, uh, always good to see that and spread the game around a little bit.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Yeah, definitely. But yeah, that can mean kind of touching on after All Star Weekend here, uh, I guess we can get right into. This might be the last one for a little bit.'cause NHL uh, announced shortly after that next year they're not doing an all-star game, so they're gonna be doing a Four Nation face-off tournament replacement. So it'll be USA Canada, Sweden, and Finland will be the four countries that are gonna be doing this. Uh, tournament, that's gonna replace the NHL All-star game. So I'm not sure if they'll be replacing everything or maybe just the All-Star game and then they'll still have that whole fun skills competition thing. I think that would probably be the smartest move, pat, to be honest, because I think most people like me, you the most average, you know, I like pretty good hockey fans. Most of the guys are tuning in to the skill stuff more than they are the All Star game. I mean, I do watch it and, you know, kind of check it out here and there, but I think for the most part, the skill stuff and all the stuff the night before is way more fun and interactive and whatnot with fans and just. Ratings and everything in general, because I feel like as cool as the all-star game is like, it's very lackadaisical. It's very, you know, it's like in, in any sports, you know, pro Bowl and NBA Allstar, like, it's just, it's kind of like a goof fest, you know? Nobody's playing defense. Nobody's really doing much. That's why the scores are crazy high and everybody's just you know, dangling and doing their thing around. But it's like, all right, well if you're gonna have all those skills competitions doing that the night before anyway. What's kind of the point of doing it like twice? You know what I mean? Like,'cause that's kind of what it is in, in, in the second, in the All-star game. It's like the second coming of that. So, yeah, I don't know. It'd be interesting to see more details coming outta that. But yeah they said it'll be, uh, February 12th to the 25th of 2025. And it looks like here Pat Canada's gonna get a host game and USA is gonna be a host. So they'll both be hosts, seven games total, 23 man rosters. They must be on NHL contracts. Three game round Robins in the top, two teams advanced to the winner, take all final. So yeah, it'll be interesting. Obviously surprised that Russia is not in there.'cause uh, I think with the amount of talent that they have, they should be, but unfortunately with the current state that their country is, with the conflict and war and all that going on, they're kind of on the outs. Which is a bummer because, you know, it's not fair to the Russian players that they're person and Yeah. because they're Russian, you know, government, whoever's calling the shots as being an a-hole at the time, you know, you know, shouldn't really take it. out on those guys. But hey, it is what it is at this point with the whole way the world is. So, but yeah, it'll be interesting. I don't know. What do you think, pat? You think it'll be, you know, you think

Track 1:

Yeah. It almost has like a mini, it almost has, yeah. I think it almost has like a mini like Olympics vibe to it, I think

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Which I think that's why they're trying to tie in everything

Track 1:

Yeah. And I'm cool with it. I like international hockey. It opens the doors quite a bit to players that you don't normally would see. I mean, obviously if they're not in the NHL. Right. You know, so either guys that are, you know, from other leagues internationally or, you know, anything like that. Uh, I'm with you, Matt, as far as, you know, you know, stuff from like the KHL and whatnot you know, not being allowed.'cause, you know, being in Russia and the geopolitical, uh, world that we live in at the moment, but yeah, I think it's a good step. I think it's a great way to expose more people to hockey and more specifically international hockey, uh, things of that nature. And then it really gives the guys that are here in the states you know, uh, that are not from the states. Right. Uh. You know, a chance to really sort of, you know, represent their country and you know, kind of give that tie in, that kind of thing. Because I think when they announced it McDavid obviously was on stage, right? Uh, I'm sorry. Yeah. And and Austin Matthews he's obviously representing the us. Uh, and then uh, Carolina Hurricanes, the Forward, Sebastian Aho he's from Finland, so he's representing. Representing the Fins. Kuck, uh, Pederson, we talk about him quite a bit, uh, representing Sweden, right? That kind of thing. And so you have all these players of different nationalities playing here in the States on the, under their respective NHL teams. Uh, I think it's a cool way to, uh, kind of get them back and kind of get some, you know, some of their home cooking. You know, pride if you will. And see what they can, you know, kind of muster up and be a part of. So I think it's cool. I think it's really I think it's really awesome and I think it's a good way to go.'cause I think he also enou, Gary Beckman also announced that he's, NHL is gonna return to the Olympics, uh, starting in 2026. And I

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

2032.

Track 1:

I think that's in Milan, 2026 is in Milan, uh, Italy. And then, like you said, 2030. I think, I don't think they've chosen that, uh, yet. I think that's chosen later this year as far as the, uh, uh, the host city there. So for 2030, we're not sure yet but basically the league kind of basically shut down for two weeks to allow players to compete in the Olympics in 98. So that was in Japan. Uh, 2002 in Salt Lake City, here in the States, uh, 2006 in, uh, Italy, 2010 in Vancouver, obviously 2014 in Sochi. Uh, things of that nature. So, and, but then the NHL players did not participate in 2018 or 2022. So, uh, I think it's a good tie in. I think it's a uh, you know, is, like I said, I think it's a bit of an appetizer, if you will, for the Olympics that are upcoming. Uh, and then the, you know, the World Cup. You know, tournament kind of thing. So I think that's, uh, uh, I think that's, I think it's great. I think it'll really, you know, kind of brings out that international spirit or fire, you know, that kind of thing.'cause I, you know, I know for me, like world Juniors come out or even, you know, watching guys in the Olympics and stuff, you know, a couple years ago with, you know, Patrick Kane and all those guys, you know, uh, playing in the Olympics and scoring for. Scoring for USA and stuff. I was into it. Like I couldn't turn the TV off. I was so into it, like I was glued to the tv. So I'm looking forward to this as well, but I think it only can be good, you know, only good can come of this and, you know, it's a little kind of teaser for the Olympics the following year. And we will see, uh, see what happens.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I mean, I think it's gonna be real interesting if, like you said, if it is kind of like a pre-tournament thing, kind of like a pre-show down, whatever you wanna call it for Olympics upcoming and whatnot. My only concern would be, and I think this is probably obviously why they haven't played in the past few Olympics, I'm assuming Pat here is like injury wise. So I would think a lot of guys now, I'm not sure, you know, maybe guys will play, maybe guys, I'm sure you're gonna have a half and half, right? Some guys are gonna wanna play, some guys are gonna be like, you know what, I don't wanna take the risk, you know, especially if my team's hot and I'm a big star player, you know, you never know, man, freak accidents happen. So I totally get it. Uh, you know, so that's another aspect of it as well. But I think, yeah, if you wanna give players the options that's great. I mean, I think they should be open to do that regardless of, you know, whether they want to or not. Because I don't think you should dictate on just because you have an NHL contract and you're in this specific league. Well, guys played. Some different leagues all over the place year round, you know what I mean? So, And in different tournaments that happen every few, you know, every few years and stuff like that. So, yeah, I think it's good to give'em the option. If they wanna play great. If they don't, they won't risk it,'cause injury or whatever else, that's fine too, but at least you're getting more eyes on and Yeah I can't wait. Honestly, pat Ice Hockey and, uh, curling are my two favorite Olympic sports out of summer and winter. Like, They're just, they're intense and I love it. It's just great. to watch, like, anybody can sit down and just be like, oh, what's this? And you just get sucked into a rabbit hole and then you're sitting there watching curling for two hours, which has happened many times to myself. Yeah. But yeah. But yeah, I mean. Man when USA hockey comes, especially, you know, in, in the Olympics, and like you said, pat with juniors has been, you know, a big hot thing the last couple years with how you know, especially USA has been really looking good with all their talent coming up. So yeah, it'd be really interesting to see. But yeah, like I would be interested, uh, I want to hear more about the whole all-star thing. Like I would love for them to keep the skill stuff, maybe have that night or two of celebrity stuff and then do all the skills competition and then maybe the weekend after, or I'm, you know, I'm not sure how timelines would work out. But yeah. And then go do that little small tournament and, uh, see how that plays out for you. It can't be any worse than what the all-star game's doing now. I wouldn't think, you know, so, Yeah, Might as well take the risk. So, yeah, I mean, NHL man they're stirring some stuff up here in the last couple months. I mean, Bettman, after, you know, how many years of Bettman sitting on his ass doing nothing, it's about timing. He, uh, livens up the place.

Track 1:

It's wild. It's wild. So just as a, a side note a little more detail. So all the games, uh, under this Four Nation face-off, they'll be played in accordance to the NHL rules on NHL sized rinks.'cause international sized rinks are different than n hhl size rings. So that's something to note. So I think that's good. And then basically they'll pay, each team will play three tournament games in a traditional, like a round robin format with then with teams earning three points for a win in regulation, two points for a win in overtime or a shootout and in one point for a loss in overtime or a shootout, and no points for a loss in regulation. So little different there. And then the, basically the two teams with the best record will advance to the one game final kind of thing. Overtime format for the round robin will be three on three, sudden death for a 10, 10 minute period, followed by a three round shootout. If it gets to that, and then uh. Yeah, overtime format for the one game final will be, uh, full strength sun death, uh, through successive 20 minute periods until one team scores. So, so I think that's, uh, that's cool. It does say, you know, as a result of the tournament, the NHL will not hold an All Star game, uh, next season, but doesn't say anything about the skills thing.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, that's what I was

Track 1:

it'd be interesting to see if that holds any weight there. So, yeah. Very cool.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I'm definitely interested to see if, uh, they get rid of the whole weekend or like I said, piece it together. I think it'd be, I think it'd be cool to piece it together for sure.'cause like I said, I know, you know, from my own standpoint that I love watching the skill stuff. I think it's awesome.

Track 1:

Yeah I agree. So yeah I'm intrigued about that. So, as it gets a little closer or maybe, uh, next couple of weeks here, we'll see what else shakes out as far as, uh, uh, like any sort of details or news around that. And maybe, uh, maybe we'll even talk some projected rosters for the four teams to see who we think will make it for their respective, uh,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Oh Yeah, Yeah. that'd definitely be interesting. Yeah, we'll definitely keep an eye on it the next few weeks. See, what more comes out. It's just very recent. I think it was last week they posted it, so Yeah. they'll, there'll be more news about it and more details coming in for sure. So we'll keep everybody posted.

Track 1:

Very interesting. Yep. It's cool. So, okay, so I think just a couple buzz. Hits here in the next, uh, as we kind of get, uh, a little longer in this episode. But but, uh, it looks like McClellan's Rope has finally, uh, ended, right? It's come to an end. Tom McClellan is out as the Kings, as the coach of the La Kings,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, man.

Track 1:

replaced by is it John Hiller?

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yep.

Track 1:

I think it's, is it John first? Jim,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Jim Hiller is interim base coach. And then, uh, DJ Smith who was currently Ottawa's I. Senator that just got fired earlier. He's an assistant coach now, so, yeah, I mean, I kind of, I said, I'd mentioned it last time about how, you know, the Kings took a real big decline there. And, uh, he was definitely on the hot seat. I mean, I don't, I didn't think, you know, I didn't think he'd get the boot, but I thought they would at least try and, you know, after the all-star game, maybe get his guys going again too, you know, and'cause it, you know, I don't really think it was all coaching Pat. I don't really think it was all on him. Like he, you know, they started out freaking 20 and seven and four, so obviously you were doing something right. You know, it'd be kind of different if you had no talent.'cause then you wouldn't have showed up and would've had all those wins to begin with. You know what I mean? So, you know, you had, you know, Talbot was doing great and, you know, everybody was rocking and rolling then all of a sudden, like right before Christmas and stuff, and in December and January, and they just started going downhill. And then I thought, all right, all-star break probably what they needed, you know, like get clear the mind, maybe get your guys going again. And he would start back fresh and at least maybe finish the season or see where it went the next couple weeks. But yeah, he never got that chance. They, uh, they booted him out the door.

Track 1:

How he went. So yeah, so he's gone. Jim Hiller's in, and from my understanding the Kings have kind of been on an upswing since Hiller took over. So,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I.

Track 1:

oh, he's, uh, just, you know, maybe need a fresh, uh, set of eyes and know good, uh, you know, just a change the scenery in there. That's sometimes that's all it takes. Like, you know, the wilds were good there for a little bit too after Dean Neon got canned. So, Just. Edmonton's another one, you know, that kind of thing. So yeah, just to, you know, new faces and, uh, fresh starts and things like that. Does some guys some real good. So, but I mean, McClellan wasn't bad at, you know, over, uh, with LA he's got, I think he was five seasons like 160 some odd games. Uh, he won 160 some odd games to, uh, lose in 130. And, you know, think so. He didn't, he was well over 500, uh, as far as, you know, as far as that. But yeah, I mean, the season comes at you quick. I mean, you really have, you know, you have a little bit of a down slide and all of a sudden that ball starts to roll and you can't control it anymore and boom, you're out the door, that kind of thing. Things happen quick. So, but Yeah. You know, and the other thing too, I think now with McClellan Gone and you're bringing in DJ Smith as part of that front office or a an assistant to somebody in the front office, I think the King's general manager, Rob Blake, is really on the hot seat now.'cause now you don't have any other distractions or any other sort of fall. You know, if this was A fall guy, you don't have anybody left, you know, that kind of thing. So you're gonna bring in DJ Smith who was. Subpar at best, uh, in Ottawa with all that talent as part of your, you know, as part of your front office and you fire the coach. Really the only person left the, of that old scene is you. Right.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

The equation's running out.

Track 1:

yeah, exactly. So it's very, it'd be interesting to see what kind of time Rob Blake has left in LA if this doesn't really work out. So.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah.

Track 1:

We'll see see what happens there. But definitely want to at least touch on that and say, Hey, you know. You know, he's out. And but like I said, I think Jim Hiller's got a couple wins in his first, uh, first couple of games there too. So he is, yeah. Who knows. The pendulum may be swinging in the other way. And I. You know, it is what it is. So, but McClellan, he joins, uh, he's the sixth NHL coach to be fired this season. So, uh, lean Lambert in New York. Uh, New York Islanders, DJ Smith, obviously we just talked about senators. Jay Woodcroft, he said the Oilers. Matt, uh, Dean Evanson in Minnesota. And then, uh, the chief Craig Ruby in St. Louis. So, so now you add McClellan. You know, to that list. So we'll see, uh, see what else, uh, who else potentially gets the ax by the end of the year and then, you know, next year, you know, you know, in the off season there's always coaching changes there too. So we'll see what you know, see what happens. But, uh, yeah, new, uh, new guard in LA and we'll see what they can do the rest of the season and see if they can squeak out, uh, to get into the playoffs.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, see if they can turn around here some of the other teams did. Yeah, like I said, you mentioned Oilers and you know, Minnesota and some of these other guys have been kind of just seemed to shake off the cobwebs and whatever problems they had seem to be all right now. But you know, like I said, second half just started so there's still a lot of hockey to be played, so Yeah, we'll see if, uh, the kings can get it going again and Talbot can get it going again and you know, start off how they were in that first quarter or so.'cause they were looking real good man. They were really up there. They were one of the best teams in the league in that first quarter and then kind of all of a sudden it was like, whoa, where the hell did they go? And they went on a real bad decline quick. And, but I, you know, yeah, like I said, you know, I think it's good that some people are held responsible, you know what I mean? But then at also times too, you know, we talked about it before. Coaches are always the scapegoat.'cause it's like, oh, who else? You can't fire the whole team. Right. But at some point, yeah, like you said, GMs and stuff. Yeah, the equation runs out and it's like, all right, you know, you've had how many coaches now in the past couple years? Like, how long are we gonna keep doing this? Obviously you're not doing your job. So, yeah. That, you know, when yeah, when coaches aren't working, then you gotta start moving up that ladder and figuring out what else the problem is.'cause yeah, it can get away quick and now day and age and, uh, yeah, but I did I read a little, uh, a little tidbit here from Kopitar saying, you know, right after McClellan got the can, and he was saying, you know, I mean, it comes down to the guys in the room too, you know, they give us a plan, they give us the structure, motivation, kicking the butt and all that, but you know, it is what it is, but you can't really. You can't really do, you know, you can't really just fabricate it all. You know, you gotta actually go out there and gotta be putting points on the board and gotta, you know, pretty much saying we have to do our job as well. Like, it's not all on the coach, you know, like, You can't just, you can't just keep losing and not, you know, if you're not scoring or you're not saving pucks. You know, the coach can't do it. Coach can't do it for you. You know what I mean? So he can have all the game plans in the world, but if you guys are playing like shit, hey, that's on you too. So, yeah. You know, I did like, I like the co as a class act, so I always like when guys are kind of sticking up for their coaches after they get the can.'cause, you know, they realize it is a hard gig and it is tough, you know, it's not always just, you know, you know, fairytales and you know, all good stuff all the time, you know, like you said, and nowadays in, in sports, just overall, man, it takes, it doesn't take long, man. You know, as we see it you're on a decline for 2, 3, 4 weeks and out the door you go. You know what I mean? It's like, wow, that happened quick. So yeah it's insane. They find your replacement, you know, in the next minute. So yeah, it's it's tough. But yeah, I like that at least some of the players stick up for some of the good coaches, you know, they, because they deserve the recognition too, so.

Track 1:

Yeah. And it certainly is a, what have you done for me lately League, that's for sure. So, it just is what it is.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

People are quick to forget.

Track 1:

Yeah, it's just, it just is what it is. So yeah, so Mcle lends out, so we'll see what happens there. The kings can turn around and may possibly que into the playoffs, but in the meantime, the one, uh. Uh, back to north of the border. I don't know if you saw Matt, you probably did, but Morgan Rileys gets a five game suspension for his, uh, for his little, uh, crosscheck on uh, what's his name? Uh, uh,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

uh, Greg, right?

Track 1:

Yeah. Great. Yeah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Greg. Yeah.

Track 1:

So yeah. So did you see the actual play.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. I saw it. Yeah. He des

Track 1:

what a bum move. He totally deserved it. What a bum. Move by Ridley.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

E even the coach after the Toronto coach was like, yeah, he's, yeah. What did you expect? Like, you play stupid games, you're gonna win stupid prizes. You know what I mean? Like, pretty much like, yeah. I mean, come on man. Like there was no reason for you to rip a freaking slap shot 10, you know, 10, 15 feet away at the end. Like you were clearly gonna just. Bating, the empty netter. There was only a couple seconds left. And uh, yeah, Mor Morgan Riley is not one of those guys that you're gonna just do that to right behind. And he's, gonna, he's I mean, did I think he deserved the crazy cross chick in the side of the neck? Probably not that egregious. You know, I think he could have, uh, lightened up a little bit. But, uh, yeah. Hey man, kind of got what you deserve there with, you know, that was just kind of a classless move, in my opinion. And if you're gonna do shit like that, then just be prepared. Keep your head up. Like, and it's funny because Morgan Wily comes over and he's like, dude, I'm gonna deck you. And the kid looks at him like right before he hits him and he's like, what did I do? Kinda like a stupid look on his face. And I'm like, dude, what do you mean? Like, you didn't expect anybody to do anything. Like, that's nuts. Like, and especially Morgan Riley,

Track 1:

conduct there. Yeah, you clearly crossed the line. So for those that didn't see it, so, uh, uh, Ottawa was up on Toronto. And basically it was the last couple seconds of the game and,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, they were up four, three, I believe, and then,

Track 1:

And Ridley had, uh, basically he got loose and there was, uh, Toronto had an empty net, so no goalie. And then Ridley came down and like, literally like 10 feet from the freaking goal. And normally guys just tap it in and, you know, whatever, you know, the game's over, they go to the locker rooms, the game's over. Now this ass hat comes all the way down and does, he's 10 feet from the net, from the empty net and rips a slap shot right into the net. It's like, dude, that's like a code of conduct. That's like a unwritten rule of hockey. That's a big deal.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

a big No-no. Yeah.

Track 1:

Yeah, that you can't just do that. And just like, he just, that's just a no-no, that's just what it is. And then he's all surprised on, you know, Morgan Riley comes over and dec and like literally puts a stick up and cross checks him like in the neck and it's just like. Dude. Like

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Laying them

Track 1:

you gotta pay for being Yeah. For being stupid. And so, like, I'm with you, man. I don't think the crosscheck to the neck was probably the best choice, but like, I understand. And I totally would've agreed with the actual retaliation and the action. So,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah.

Track 1:

but Riley gets a five game suspension. And so yeah, he's appealing it.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

that? Dunno how well that's gonna go, but

Track 1:

Yeah, exactly. We'll see what happens. Yeah. Uh, Batman's upheld all three appeals thus far this season, so it doesn't look so great For, Riley. But it was six seconds left and and so,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

And if you do get to check it out for people that are listening, like it was literally like he was in the hardest slap shot competition. Like it, like He, wound up, it wasn't just like a normal slap shot. Like it was like he put Yeah, he put like everything he had into that and smoked it and it was just like, and yeah, Riley just comes right over and he was just like, no, I'm not freaking having it.

Track 1:

this ain't

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. And just lays him out.

Track 1:

Oh, so funny. But, uh, so Toronto's head coach, Sheldon Keef was asked, or I should say, said post-game, that his players' actions were appropriate. That it says the league disagreed.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yep.

Track 1:

Oh

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. I love it, man. Toronto. Yeah, he was, yeah, I saw the little bit like, I think it was,'cause it was a, I think it was a little bit of a later game if I'm not mistaken, but, or I was watching the highlights later at night. Anyway. 10, 11 o'clock, whatever the hell it was. It was late at night and it was like right after it happened.'cause I was watching NHL and I was like, oh man. And I saw that interview and I was just like, wow, that's an awesome coach. Just being like, yep, that's what we're doing. And I don't care. I'm sticking up. If he gets suspended, uh, you know, I'll fight for it with him or, whatever. We'll go about it, how it needs to be going about. But yeah, I mean, yeah, you're gonna let a young kid or whatever come in and do shit like that. Like Yeah, it's just a big no. That's like in the NFL right pat? Like if you're like fourth quarter and you know how quarterbacks take a knee, that'd be like if you just threw a bomb and. Hail, married it and scored seven points. You know what I mean? Or if you're in the NBA and you know, guys dribble out the clock when you're up by 10 and you hit a three, like, or you go down and do some fancy dunk, like it's just asshole shit. You know what I mean? It's, Yeah. It's, there's it's unsportsmanlike. It's just, it's uncalled for it. Yeah. Go down, tap it in the net. Celebrate your win with your guys and keep it. moving. Don't be an ass. Yeah. So, yeah. You got what you deserved?

Track 1:

Yep. A hundred percent. So, yeah, so I found that interesting. It's a five gamer, so we'll see, uh, see if he wins his appeal, but it doesn't look so great from Batman's, uh, record this year. So we'll see what happens. But, uh, looks like, uh, I mean. Riley's having a good, uh, a good season again this year. So he's got, uh, seven goals, 36 assists and, you know, 43 points and he's fourth on the team, 43 points, so he's a decent piece to that Toronto powerhouse up there for

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah he's got some grit. He keeps those guys locked in. You know what I mean? He's definitely one of those players, which as you know, from the video, as you can see, like, he doesn't put up with shit. He doesn't, he's not putting, he's not there to make friends. He's there to win hockey games and keep his team, you know, he's like that gritty six player, you know what I mean? Like, he's just, you know, he's putting up great numbers this year, obviously, but I mean, he's just there to keep Yeah. Those guys on their toes and let's say let's freaking go boys. Let's do it. You know, and obviously to, you know, Toronto's having a pretty good season so far with their guys, so Yeah. Good for them, but,

Track 1:

Yep. That's, uh, so we'll see. See what happens there. And he'll probably get the rest five games and come back, uh, come back with a little chip on his shoulder after, you know, in game six. So we'll

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah. Yeah.

Track 1:

what happens there. But just one or two other things I wanted to, uh, touch on. So we have the, oh, just real quick, looks like, uh, we're recording this on the 14th, so Valentine's Day. So happy Valentine's Day. Everybody out there the, those that celebrate. So, looks like, uh, last night, the 13th, connie McDavid in just his insanity. He had six. He had six assists last night in the game. Six. I was like, what did I read that right?

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah I did the same thing when I saw it this morning. I'm like, wait, did I read that right? Six, you mean six in one? Like, I thought he was like, maybe in the month so far, you know? I was like, what? Yeah, he had six assist last night against Detroit. It's just nuts.

Track 1:

They played Detroit last night, eight, and they won eight to four and Connor had six assists. So six of those, six of those eight goals had Connor touching the puck, or I should, yeah, Connor touching the puck for that. So he's got 77 points overall now in 47 games. Just insanity.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, he put puts up six to sixth for the second six point game of his career. Geez, man. That's, yeah. That's nuts.

Track 1:

Just on another planet.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

He's making some noise obviously. I mean, no shocker there. But yeah, and a tidbit on that with Otto was, uh, win streak one, one shy. They lost to Vegas last week. Three one, so they're 16 game. Yep. Month and Yeah, first lost in 50 days. It was, so yeah. Almost two months. So yeah, they were on a hell of a run and, uh. 17 was I believe the record is 17 games consecutive by 91, 92. Like La Marios and Yonkers, you know, pens. So, yeah. So they, yeah, man, if they would've had another couple games they definitely could've done it. But yeah, Vegas, uh, Vegas, just beat'em out. But yeah, man, all kind, all kinds of records for those boys up there in Edmonton so far. I don't know what the hell is going on now.

Track 1:

Something in the water up there. It

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, right. I don't know. Whatever they're drinking, I want something. Jesus.

Track 1:

So crazy. So yeah, So we thought we'd mentioned that with just McDavid and another planet that he's on. The last thing I'll touch on, uh, just news-wise here before we get to our shoot of the week, is, uh, my boys this weekend playing, uh, playing them jersey devils. Out there in the stadium series at MetLife. So Flyers. Flyers, and, uh, devils this week. And I think it's also was it Rangers Islanders as well? Yeah, Rangers Islanders at MetLife as well. So Flyers devils. It's a twofer. Got the flyers Devil's Saturday. That's the, uh. Is that the 17th? Yeah. 17th to eight o'clock. That's on A, B, C, uh, or ESPN plus whatever you're watching on. And then the Islanders and arrangers Sunday, 3:00 PM also on A, B, C or ESPN plus. Depending on where you're watching.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Sweet.

Track 1:

So, yeah, so there's some really cool things going on here. So there is uh, it says kids will play on NHL Street rings decorated by local artists representing the four teams. So that's kind of cool. It's like a street hockey program that the NHL has going. And the rinks will be complete with chain link fences and metal bleachers. So that's kind of cool. And then you got the Jonas Brothers, the pre-game concert at six 30 Saturday.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Oh, little Jonas.

Track 1:

am, uh, amphitheater, it looks like, given, you know, the ticket buyers a two for one deal. Right, right, right on.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

All right. Right, right.

Track 1:

then they'll also perform during the second intermission, uh, Saturday, uh, as well. And then I guess there's an indie pop band a JR will perform, uh, during the first intermission on Sunday. So that'd be, that'll be cool. So I also, hold on one second.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Yeah. I saw today that they were gonna have a bunch of, uh, from the map here that I'm looking at, pat, it looks, yeah, it looks pretty wild. Like they're gonna have, obviously the stadium and, you know, well, the rink in the middle. And then they're gonna have all kinds of, uh, like you said, like a, like a. Another small rink for like other kids and stuff to, to mess around on. And they're gonna have like this big walking track, I guess, around the whole thing where people can jog and Yeah. people can jog and push their kids and whatnot. So it's kind of gonna be like a hockey in the park kind of thing, you know, from like kind of the map of what I'm looking at here. So, yeah, it looks like pretty cool, like pretty neat, you know, maybe some like central, you know, central park vibes kind of, kind of thing. Maybe

Track 1:

It is kind of

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

kind of seems like what they're shooting for. So, yeah.

Track 1:

And also as Matt you'll enjoy this as well. One of Matt and I's favorite bands probably one of my top five of all time, uh, New Jersey Bread and Born Gaslight Anthem. They're gonna play their song, uh, at the Stadium series, uh, as well. So they're part of that. I think they're playing an intermission as well. I forget which game. But they're playing an

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Nice.

Track 1:

Actually it's probably gonna be the devil's game'cause

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, I would, I was gonna say devils. They're from

Track 1:

I think their song Howell is the devil's goalie song, or is the devil's, uh, scoring song. goal

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

go. That makes

Track 1:

So they're gonna play, they're gonna play that. And I love the gas I dance and they are absolutely top five for me.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah,

Track 1:

so yeah, total, uh, awesome. So. So they'll be there as well. So I'm definitely tuning in for that. Actually, I just saw them last October here. They were here in town and they were awesome as usual. But yeah, so they're really associated with the, uh, the devils and stuff. So they'll be playing. There as well. So a lot of cool stuff going on for this, uh, stadium series. I really gotta give it to them and I really like the whole, you know, the whole street hockey vibe got going on And all that kind of stuff. So it's really cool. So, there's some really cool graphics that are here for the four teams. So, uh, check those out for sure. The street art is really cool from what I'm seeing, so it's really, uh, they've really done a nice, uh, a nice job for this, so we'll see. Uh, but yeah I'm really hoping, uh, my guys are on a four game win streak outta coming off of the, uh, coming off the, uh, the Allstar break. So, uh, I think they're still third in the Metro, I think. So they're really, they're one of the surprising teams, really. So that's gonna be, it's always gonna be good. So they need, they played Toronto tomorrow night, and then they're in, uh, at MetLife for Saturday. So, got a coup tough, a couple tough games coming up here, but, uh, always good to watch the stadium stuff outside and you know, all the festivities that, that are around that. So that's gonna be awesome.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah. Yeah, I think it's gonna be neat. Uh, I think the atmosphere is definitely gonna be. Definitely different than what they've done in the past. Like, like I said, when I saw the map and all the cool stuff they were adding and there just seems like they're really trying to bring in like everybody and anybody, you know what I mean? Like people that are actually there, hockey fans watching the game, and then people that want to just go down and hang out and just, you know, maybe bring their kids to skater around the rink and just, you know, just hang out and just have a good time. So hopefully the weather cooperates. That's the only thing maybe, you know,'cause we definitely had like 8, 8, 10 inches here yesterday in Lehigh Valley, pa, where we're from. So, you know, obviously Jersey and whatnot, not too far, so I'm sure they had that. But yeah, I saw some pictures from, I think it was Monday, they posted pictures when ice and stuff was like done being con constructed and whatnot. And the photos are pretty good, man. Yeah, it was looking real good. So, yeah, we'll have to see what the weather looks like this weekend. But yeah, it'll be, it'll definitely be fun to check in and I'm excited to see all the. You know, the, uh, artist and stuff and you know, whoever else is coming out and, you know, gonna play and whatnot would definitely be exciting to see. You know, never really did anything this extravagant to the stadium series stuff yet so far, especially two games, you know, we've, it's usually only one, so it's exciting to have two and uh, kind of get a double dose of that. So yeah, it'll be awesome. I'll definitely be checking that out this weekend.

Track 1:

Yep, for sure. That'll be on my TV Saturday night. No doubt about it. That's gonna be cool. So, yeah, so just touching on that and then I think we're gonna wrap up here, Matt, with our shooter of the week.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Cool. Yeah. let's, do it.

Track 1:

let's get to that and see if we can, uh, see if we can, uh, get one going here. So, uh, Matt, why don't you kick yours off. Who do you got for this week's, uh, shooter of the week, fresh out the all-star break. So.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I got your boy Travis Ney.

Track 1:

Yes, finally, you're coming to my side. I love it. Ah.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, he had a couple goals the other night and uh, yeah, he is had like four in the five, four or so in the past, like five, uh, five or six games. And, uh, yeah, man looking a couple of assists the other night too. He's just looking good man. So were the flyers. Uh, unfortunately I can't say anything about my team right now. We are definitely on the decline and it's sad. I'm just sad. So, yeah, I think there's gonna be a lot of, uh, big, you know, there's some definitely, you know, with Jake Genzel maybe possibly getting traded. There's a lot of rumors that going around, yeah, Malkin's not looking too good. You know, he's looking real slow and just doesn't look interested at all. Power plays is one of the worst in the league, which is still like astonishing to me. Like I, you have all that power offense. You have Sid, you have Malkin, you have Letang, we got Carlson this year. You got Genzel, you got Rusty, you got, I mean, you got guys, man. I mean obviously it's still the same old crew from a couple years ago that won a cup, you know, six, seven years ago. You know, a few obviously different people and Jari Hass been playing pretty decently well, so it's like, yeah, just, something's just not clicking there. And I think it's coaching too at this point. I don't know if, uh, Todd Reardon, you know, he needs to go, or Sullivan needs to go, but yeah, I don't know, man. They better start figuring something else out or I think everybody's gonna get going and yeah, it'll be the rebuild soon. So we'll see. I think that, you know, I think, like we talked about before, penguins, Chicago, you know, Kings up until recently. A lot of these teams that were like kinda counting on those veterans for a little too long and you didn't, you know, you started that rebuild process too late. And when you do that, it sets you back 10 times farther than if you would've just bid it off, got some picks and traded your guys or wherever, however you want to go about it. Well now it's like too late now. You have to start all the way from scratch and it just takes 10 times longer. So yeah, we'll see what happens here. But yeah, man, connect me. He's myah man. He's looking good. And so are your flyers. So good for you.'cause uh, yeah, it's been rough for Philadelphia the last couple years

Track 1:

been a minute.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

up until recently. So yeah, It's probably a nice change of pace for you guys, so, yeah.

Track 1:

Danny Brier and Joanie do their thing. They're the saviors for this

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, so far no complaints on your end, that's for

Track 1:

far yeah. he's all right. They're doing all right. So I'm okay with that. Uh, side note, Uh, they just today they named Sean Captain. They were without a captain for a

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I did see

Track 1:

now, uh, they named him Captain, so Coutts gets to see. So good for him. He's been a long time flyer. He's been a, he's been a hell of a defensive, uh, forward for years. That's his game. So,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

like the longest flyer currently, right Pat? He's

Track 1:

Yeah. I think so.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

I would, think Yeah.

Track 1:

Yeah he's long, he's getting long in the tooth. But yeah, it's good to, it's good to give him the recognition he deserves it, that kind of thing. But yeah, that connecting me, he plays with some sandpaper, some grit you know,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Had some injury stuff, but yeah. Glad he is back.

Track 1:

Yeah. But man, he can really shoot the puck and he gets hot. Man, look out. He goes, so always, uh, always good to see tk uh, getting the recognition, uh,'cause even the flyers that, you know, they've been surprising this year, right? Nobody expected them to do anything. But, you know, tort got that tort got'em cooking on all cylinders, right? Then wheels are going and they put. Like still the national stuff, the national guys don't really talk about them. Like they're just not on the national radar. So I'm like, okay, well, we'll see what happens. But, uh, they're third in the metro and they're close man. They're really pumping on all cylinders. So We'll see We'll see what happens. And, uh, hopefully they, uh, they get a spot and see if they can race the eyebrows in the playoffs. So we'll see.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah. Absolutely. And with the Rangers having, you know, kind of, they're having a little bit of, a little bit of trouble lately, so who knows. Yeah, Yeah, a little bit Yeah, a little bit

Track 1:

little stumble. Action.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

what happens with that. And yeah, and who knows, man, the flyers keep playing the way they're playing. Yeah, they could still keep moving up there. So yeah, definitely in a good playoff spot. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah,

Track 1:

So my shooter, uh, I'm gonna go north of the border, uh, Brady Kach. So, uh, another guy with a lot of sandpaper, a lot of grit, sandpaper to his game. That's for damn sure.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah. Absolutely.

Track 1:

brother. Him and his brother, Matt. Uh, uh, father Keith, right? Keith played for, uh, for in this league for a lot of years as well. So, uh, chip off the old blocks there. So yeah, Brady Chu's got some real sandpaper, but man, he got the mid too. He can score them goals. He had a hat trick just last night, the 13th against him. Columbus Blue Jackets, three

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

saw that he was smoking last night.

Track 1:

Smoke. So, he's got, let's see, 3 0 4, 6 6, uh, goals in the last, uh, five games. That's just before the All Star, uh, break there. I.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Nice.

Track 1:

But he is also got, uh, 3, 4, 6, 7 points in those last five games as well. So he's really turning it on the last, uh, couple of games and definitely raising some eyebrows and trying to get, uh, Ottawa back, uh, above 500 there as they kind of, again, they changed, as we talked about. They changed, uh, coaches a couple weeks ago with DJ Smith out. Now, so while I'm trying to get Ottawa back to, you know, above 500 and see if they can make a playoff push as well, but Ka Chuck is another one. He is just a, he's a bright spot for the league man. Just so much talent. And just he can really score him. He's got that family, you know, the, you know, the family hockey bread and born kind of thing, so, but yeah he's definitely, he's got the genes for it. So, yeah, always, uh, always like. Watching Brady play when I can and you know, again, had another player with that grit, that sandpaper, you know, to his game and getting under guy's skins and not afraid to, you know, tussle it up and, you know, drop the gloves for, you know, the right opportune time and things of that nature. So, You know, write on right on for Kach Chuck, and he's just been on a, he's been on the heater the last couple of games, so we'll see, uh, see if he can continue the points going in the next couple of games and see where that leads to Ottawa as a team.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah. See if you can keep rocking and rolling. Yeah. Ottawa trying to get back, you know, I don't know if they'll get into a playoffs this year. Probably not. Just'cause they've had a pretty bummer of a season. But hey, who knows?

Track 1:

heck of a time. Yeah,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

But who knows? But yeah, look good for him. Yeah. And we'll definitely be calling his name more often, I think him. Yeah, like Chuck Boys, man. They're both great players and obviously they have that hockey, you know, hockey generational talent, so they got all the wisdom there behind their dad and, you know, whatnot. So, yeah, it's good. It's good for them. Great.

Track 1:

That's it. So, I think that's it. I think we're gonna wrap it up, man. We, man, we're going over an hour this way. I need the oxygen tank, Jesus.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah,

Track 1:

A little long in the tooth,

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Catching up. Yeah. We didn't get a chance to do one last week with everybody being sick and whatnot. So, and Allstar, you know, Allstar weekend was, you know, last weekend, so,

Track 1:

Yep.

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

you know, had to catch up on all that. But yeah, that, it was a pretty good one. And, uh, yeah, the only other thing, pat, that I had is, uh, my boy fill the thrill. Phil Philly, Kessel. He, uh, he made his way up to Vancouver and is trying out, and, uh, Vancouver GMs might be, uh, might be putting, uh, might, yeah, might be, uh, might be, uh, picking up Phil, the thrill, but, uh, yeah, he's gonna be disappointed in the hotdog up there, unfortunately. But

Track 1:

say he better get a hotdog stand

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

yeah, he yeah. He better find a Costco or something, so, uh, yeah.

Track 1:

Phil likes his doggies, man. Get him a hotdog cart and he's good to

matt_1_02-14-2024_210552:

Yeah, man, I've always loved Phil Kessel from, you know, anywhere he is, been with the pens, you know, in Arizona and God, he is been he's been all over the league now, but man, yeah, one, one of the best man. He's just a good time. He's just always laughing, smiling. He reminds me of like flurry too, just solid dudes. They don't ever take anything too seriously and they just love the game and love their family and just, yeah, just all around solid guys, so, yeah, it'd be interesting to see if he gets a shot up there in Vancouver, man.'cause Vancouver's smoking this year and he could definitely add a. Uh, a nice little back piece to that team that's already been rolling, you know what I mean? So, yeah, it'll be interesting to see if he, uh, you know, gets through these. He's, I guess he's going up there to try out and whatnot and see what he's got or, you know, Vancouver's gonna see what he's got, you know, I should say. So, Yeah. we'll see. Uh, that was just, uh, yesterday, so we'll see if anything pops up outta that. We'll keep people posted, but yeah, fulfill the thrill, man. Still doing it. Still doing it.

Track 1:

I can't wait. That's gonna be awesome. That's gonna be awesome. All right, buddy. So we'll get outta here. Like I said, we were a little longer in the tooth this week.
