We have Parkedon Maryland native Logan Chalk in studio with us. Also, his mom Angie is in studio too. They both made the trek up here from Maryland. Logan, thanks for making the trek here, North Man, and joining us here tonight on Soundcheck. Thank you for having me. Let's do it. Yeah, this is gonna be awesome, man. Thanks for being a part of the Soundcheck fam, man. We talked a couple months back on the podcast. So let's dive into your story, your music. A lot of publications that are out there of people to watch in 2026. You know, we we just had Ben Gallagher on the show a couple months back. He was one to watch on Taste of Country. Minnie, we're gonna throw this out here for this show tonight. Logan Chalk is going to be the one to watch in 2026, I believe. We're just throwing it out there, Logan. It's a lot of weight on my shoulders. No pressure, yeah. No pressure. No pressure. None at all. We're good. Your story and just where you have come from has just been simply amazing. Just talk about how you started. You were self-taught on the guitar as well. Just talk about your start in country music and how you began all of this.
SPEAKER_03Yes, honestly, uh, I kinda like going back a little bit to even almost when I was a child. Uh grew up listening to a lot of country music throughout the radio, thanks to my parents, a lot of rock and a lot of mainly a lot of country. Um but even throughout elementary school, I even found the photo too. There was a assignment where we had uh tell the teachers what we wanted to be when we grew up. And uh I remember writing on a chalkboard, I wanted to be a a country singer. And it's actually in the yearbook still, I can go find it somewhere. But um and then ever since then I I just been kind of just singing and and kinda getting into the whole uh idea of being uh either a pop star or any kind of country artist. I even did talent shows as well. Um but then come high school, uh, I I took a guitar class, uh, learned the basics, and then once I graduated, uh kind of just kept you know practicing and practicing and practicing and until I really got the hang of things and then uh got my name out there a little bit. A lot of help from local bands, uh especially from my uncle as well. Uh shout out Dean Crawford and the Dunge River band. Oh yeah. Would not be here without you guys. Appreciate it. Uh but but yeah, I've been playing locally all around Maryland and then kinda get my name up here around PA as well, and then trying to head back down to Nashville as as much as I possibly can and uh kind of just keep the train rolling.
SPEAKER_02I got now, I gotta ask you, because every musician when they started young, they either sang into something bizarre or played something bizarre as a kid. What was it for you? Was there anything bizarre that you played like on? Did you like beat on with chopsticks or something on? Like a no, no. Did you see anything strange when you were a kid?
SPEAKER_03Uh I might have tapped like on a tambourine, maybe. I don't know. I mean, probably tapping on anything I possibly could, but uh no, I kind of jumped straight into the guitar a little bit and and it kind of took me off from there.
SPEAKER_02Now let's bring your mom in here. You remember any strange things that that Logan played when he was a kid at all, Angie?
SPEAKER_11He did have a guitar that really didn't have strings on it.
SPEAKER_02He would pretend he was playing that, but now talk about too, Angie. Now that now that you've made the trek up north here uh to Pennsylvania, talk about his transformation from when he was younger to to where he's at now. You're seeing it firsthand. How would you describe that?
SPEAKER_11Oh geez. He um So Logan was always a very shy kid. He played football from seven years old to high high school, until his senior year, and he um would never talk. Even the coaches would say, Why isn't this does this kid ever talk? So the first time he ever got on stage and sang at a karaoke contest in Mexico, he was like, Wow, I didn't realize I could sing. I'm like, Yeah, you did it in front of a crowd. And that kind of thing broke the ice for him. Um and then it's he just keeps going further and further, and but he's still the same way with talking one-on-one with people, but you know, it's hard hard for him. But he'll get up in front of 13,000 people and sing with no problem. It's it's just crazy. But he's um, yeah, it's it's been wild. It's like I said, this past year it's just taken off so fast. We were not expecting any of this. Um we're so blessed, we're happy, and I'm just glad I'm here along, you know, to be able to enjoy it and be there with him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's gotta it's gotta be an exciting ride for the both of you watching it firsthand as it unfolds, and and like you said, this year I'm sure is is going to be a roller coaster ride to say the least for me one of the record books, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_10You are just three years removed from graduating high school. Talk about how much in those three years your career has just started to take off.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so like I say, you know, kind of getting introduced a little bit locally and the whole music scene in Maryland and PA. Uh I I I didn't really know what to do or where I was going with it, but uh I kept getting a lot getting a lot of good feedback and uh a lot I kept getting gigs after g after gig after gig and I I kind of kept growing from then and and all the pressures I kept throwing into it as well helped me become a better musician. So I mean, from starting out going into freshman year of college to to now, it's just I progressed so much and and being able to see that change it is it just keeps keeps wanting me want more and keep wanting to push myself even harder to to these higher limits as well. And um yeah, so and then and obviously I learned guitar in high school and I can get better at that as well. Uh just I think really just that that change is just kind of just kept wanting me to push myself forward forward to more. I started off here with uh my first single ever released. This one's called I Should've Known Better. Uh really just wrote it about just a one-night stand. Falling for a one-night stand when you probably shouldn't have. And you thought to yourself, damn, I probably should have known better.
SPEAKER_05I should've known when you walked in the bar with my heels on. Tell me I'm wrong, tell me I'm right, and tell me a smile won't fade through the night. I should've known you were gonna say goodbye. Just for a moment, it all fell right. When I pulled you in them near lights, and I edited and looked in those eyes. Girl, I didn't even try to think twice. I'm back in that 865, whiskey on ice, chasing that same cat eye. We almost made it through the weather. Thinking about forever, girl. I should've known better. Shoulda seen the problem. Soon as you walk through that door. I should've known how to take your hand and spin you across that floor. Cause I wanna more, and you wanna less. Made me feel every inch of regret. A thing I'm weighing over my eye. Just for a moment, it all fell right. I pulled you in them near lights. And I edit and looked in those eyes. I'm back in that 865, whiskey on ice, chasing that same kind of height. We almost made it through the weather. Thinking back forever, girl. I should've known better. Shoulda known better. So let's get the big story out of the way here because around these parts, York is only about 30, 45 minutes away from us here. You're known as the Riley Green guy around here in San Central PA. For for a number of different reasons. Mainly he brought you up on stage at a show. Discuss that of how that all began because that's kind of been what has propelled your career here.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. So kind of getting to the nitty-gritty of it. Um huge fan of Riley Green. Um I remember sitting in my in my in my room one time and and then just playing a bunch of random country music, and I Wish Grandpa's Ever Died was the first song that popped up that I heard of his, and I just fell in love with it instantly. And then uh Country Calling in uh Maryland, down ocean city, Riley Green played for the first year, so we went down to go s watch that. He put on a great show, and then uh down at Piercex Pavilion in Baltimore. We went to go watch him with Ella Langley as well, put on a great show, and then the third time watching him uh was up in York PA at the York Fair, and I wanted to be right up fr in the front with my mother as well. And so we got there three hours early, sat in line, um, it was very hot that day, I do remember.
SPEAKER_02This is a great story, I love how this begins. Yes, yes, we relived this on the podcast a couple months back. This is a great story guy. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So um we we never really knew the the law like the the restrictions on bringing things such as signs and stuff like that. So my mother had a bright idea of well, let's not bring a huge cutout cardboard piece and and write on it. Let let's bring a pillow that we can roll up and and and hide, and uh I'll kinda let my mother dec uh you know tell you guys wh where she hid it. But um so uh I I remember w we laid it out while we're getting a line and uh it we were sitting on gravel and it it it was so hard to like stretch it out and trying to like write on it 'cause it was just so bumpy. Uh but we managed to make it work and I I I wrote down Can I Sing Jesus Saves and um I I I picked that song because one is one it's one of my most favorite written songs ever uh that Riley Grant has written. It's such a beautiful song. I love the story behind it, it's amazing. But uh I j I chose that song and um especially because I I've been to two of his previous shows and I kinda know his whole his whole set list and and how his show kinda kinda gr goes throughout uh goes out throughout the throughout the night. So we we chose that song, we wrote it down, and uh and then we got we got back in line, we met up with a bunch of random people, and we all kind of grouped up together and we all kind of teamed up. And uh shout out to all the girls that were there too, that that helped us, that was part of the group. Uh so yeah, we all teamed up. We got through the we got through the front gate and we all rushed towards the front and uh they all saved us a spot and and we all kind of just like had each other's backs a little bit throughout the uh throughout the whole process here. I I kinda know when he kind of switches over to which it's just him and his guitar, and he kind of just like shies away from the band a little bit. So the lights go out and he walks backstage and he comes walking back out with just a stool, a mic, and his guitar, and he starts strumming the chords um to Jesus Saves now and uh now Jesus Saves, I I know what it is because uh a lot of Roll Green songs are in drop D tuning to where that that low E strings drop down to a D note. And uh he he comes down, he strums this, and I'm like, oh man, maybe he didn't see the sign, maybe he maybe he just didn't you know didn't see it. Um then he strums a couple chords and he stops and he uh tells the crowd, hold on, hold on, hold on, there's this guy down here that's been holding up uh the sign asking if his asking me if I can, you know, let him on and sing the song. But he he's he saw me out there and he and he called me up on stage. Uh but actually before he called me up on stage, he actually put me through a test real quick. Uh and I think really just to make a drum before I think really just to make sure I wasn't some drunk fan trying to be all crazy, trying to get on stage with Rally Green or whatever. Um so he gave me a test and he uh a microphone got passed down to me and uh he was he asked me to sing like the first like chorus, I guess, technically, of the song, and within like the first like three or four words, uh he said, Yep, you're good, come on up.
SPEAKER_02Put me in coach, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you put yeah, you put me in, that's for sure. Um yeah, I see a lot of funny comments too on some of the videos that are that have been posted too. But yeah, I I passed the test, he caught me on stage, uh, we shook hands and a stool was brought out to me. I saw I sat next to him, and then um you know I kind of gave my whole story a little bit about how you know my grandfather, you know, was hospitalized and was eventually saved by by the good lord upstairs, and then we eventually got into singing the song, and it came to my part, and I I remember just sitting out sitting there and looking at the crowd and having all those people, all those faces looking back at me. It was just so incredible. And then I always remember throughout the song, a lot of them were actually turning on their phone flashlights and kind of just flashing it towards us, and it was like looking at like a night sky with all the stars looking at me. It was just so surreal, it was insane. Something that I I that I will cherish forever. Um it was so cool. Um, but I remember it it got to my part. A lot of people asked me uh if I was nervous at all or anything like that. And to be honest, I'm not sure if it was the adrenaline rush or anything like that, but it it just came so naturally, and none of it shocked me at all. It it just came so so naturally, and thankfully I I I I didn't screw up uh my my my my part, which was which was great.

SPEAKER_03I'm gonna do my original one, uh, kind of working on it. I posted this on TikTok and I got a lot of good feedback, so I tried to finish it. Uh didn't take me too long to write, actually. Uh this one's called Radio, which kind of works out well because in a radio station. Uh but really kind of inspired me to write this one. Uh kind of just play a lot of songs for people. Um I tend to back then I play a lot of sad songs for a lot of people, and um kind of just got me thinking a little bit. I play all these songs for even um even for my girlfriend too as well. And I'm basically people's radio, so uh kind of wrote something a little about it, so we'll see how this goes.

SPEAKER_10It's Sound Chuck with Tiz and Mini on Froggy Valley 100.1 and the My Froggy Valley by Radio Novo. We are joined back in studio with Logan Chalk tonight. Before we played those songs by you, we were discussing you being on stage with Riley Green. What was your favorite part of that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, my favorite part was when we got to the bridge where me and Riley kind of just singing together and we're looking at each other singing it. I think that was so cool. The crowd was loving it. Inspired my favorite part when I go back and watch it on TikTok or whatever. Yeah, we sing it and we get to the last part and we and we finish it. And I messed up a little bit, like the last couple words, like well, I did I didn't sing the the wrong words, like there's words that are still in the song, just like at the wrong s I don't know how to really explain it, but you know, it it was it didn't really matter because the crowd was just cheering so loud that they they they kind of just overpowered it in any kind of video. And I probably shouldn't say I'm gonna mess like I messed up, but like I'm gonna be I'm gonna I'm gonna be real with you guys. I I messed up a little bit, but it's hardly even noticeable, so it didn't really matter. I kind of just brushed it off anyway. But yeah, after that, uh obviously the crowd was cheering. I I we got up. I I thanked Raleigh Green, of course, obviously. And then I I went back down to the crowd like normal, and then um I basically went from crowd to stage and then back to the crowd. And it was kind of cool because I kind of felt like a celebrity at at the at the time. Uh having everybody walk up asking me, like, dude, that was crazy, that was so cool. Uh it was just insane. Like uh the agenda and rush was there for sure.
SPEAKER_10Was there anything that you took from being on stage or learned from that moment with Riley Green that kind of has stuck with you?
SPEAKER_03Uh big thing that kind of stuck with me was was don't overthink it. You know, kind of just do what you know, live in the moment and and and just see where that kind of takes you as well. At the end of the day, we're all we're all people, you know, some of us is maybe a little famous, that's alright. Uh but yeah, at the end of the day we're all we're all people, we're all we're all friends, we're we're all in this together. And uh I I just love being able to sit there and and and share my talent with everybody else, and uh, I'm glad that people were actually willing to sit there and listen to me. Um but yeah, that that's kind of like the biggest thing, it's just kind of just be myself. That's the biggest takeaway I've got from being on stage.
SPEAKER_02If anybody has has never seen you live, Logan, at a show, describe your style of country music.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so like I said, I grew up with a lot of pop, bro country. Like I said, Florida Georgia Lion was a huge inspiration for me as well. Um so my my my style that I'm kind of pushing for now is is really that bro pop country. And and obviously it's it's blown up over the last like five years, especially with Morgan Wallin as well. Uh but I I want to keep pushing towards that that subgenre of country music because I want it's just so fun to listen to and it it's so relatable as well. I think I think that's like the biggest part of it, uh having a song that's relatable, and then we can all kind of enjoy when I listen to it. But yeah, for for me, it's definitely that bro pop country kind of kind of aspect of it.
SPEAKER_10We are joined in studio with Logan Chalk, rising country musician from Maryland. You're balancing not only being in college, but also a musical career that is growing every day. How has that been to handle the whirlwind of everything going on?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'll tell you what, it's uh it's definitely put a lot of stress on me, that's for sure. Uh it's a lot of rinse and repeat. I remember when school does start, I I'm always getting up really early in the morning, going to class, uh, going to work, and and then on the weekends, doing what I love most and playing music for everybody. And and and thankfully, shout out to my mother as well for you know for kind of helping me along the way and kind of being by my side and getting me through everything as well. It it's very hard to juggle all this kind of stuff. Uh, but we but I managed to make it work, and and it obviously it's it's very hard, but I have a lot of fun doing it, and if it's something I love, I'm gonna keep trying to pursue it as well. Um, and it, you know, it's it's just I kind of gonna see where it takes me.

SPEAKER_02Oh gosh. And that was just a couple years ago for him, so yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man, when I was a teenager, oof. Uh honestly, I I listened to a lot of girly pop songs maybe here and there. Uh maybe maybe a little Taylor Swift, never hurt nobody. I don't know. Oh, probably Total Swift here and there. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02No Backstreet Boys InSync or anything like that.
SPEAKER_03Uh maybe a little bit, yeah. I do I do listen to a lot of rock music though. So I'm I'm I'm not too sure.

SPEAKER_03Ooh, no, that's that's a tough one. Honestly, I'm not sure I I might just be like super broad here, but anything from Chick-fil-A, that would be great. I could live off Chick-fil-C-A for the rest of my life, honestly. That Chick-fil-A sauce is so good. I I could just eat that, honestly, for the rest of my life.
SPEAKER_10And our third and final question if you could instantly be an expert at any hobby you haven't tried yet, what would it be and why?
SPEAKER_03Well, for a hobby I haven't tried, I'm not too sure yet. Maybe like surfing or something would be pretty cool. But honestly, a hobby that I would like really have been trying to push to get better at is golf. Oh yeah. Oh, uh I I've been playing for a while now, uh, but I I I just really I'm just not good at all. It it's it's so hard to get good at it at this sport. Um I can hit a far, but it, you know, that I could go far just in the wrong direction, either left or right, or you know, maybe in the next zip code. Uh but yeah, definitely try to get better at golf. Uh well honestly, I'm I'm open to try to take on anything. I I love a good challenge.

And this song is really about a uh the story of a homeless man and kind of how he got there in that position. It's really cool because I think the message of this song is uh we don't know someone else's story until we walk a mile in their shoes. What we do know is that we can put our trust and faith in a God, and everything will be alright. So this one's called Jesus Aves.
SPEAKER_05On my way into town, he was covered in dirt, like the world beat him down. I often wondered how he ended up like that. So one day driving home, I pulled over the desk. I said, Man, where'd it all go wrong? He said, Someday you really wanna know. My daddy left for another one, moved off to LA. My mama fought hard against that cancer. She died when I was eight, and I finished school, my country shipped me off to war. When I came home, my whole world didn't love me anymore. It's hard to see all that when you're driving by. The bank took everything I own. He chugged my way up to Chicago. The nights were too damn cold. I train headed west, cause I had nowhere else to go. It's hard to see all that driving by. So I just write down Jesus saves, cause there ain't no way I could fit that on. A sign Ain't no way to fit that on a sign. I probably would've wrote down a little more. If I could have found a bigger piece of cardboard. For kids when we were dating. Here we even had baby names picked out, but little Walter didn't make it. It's hard to see all that driving by. SPEAKER_02Welcome to a Sunday night. We are joined by Rising Country musician from Maryland, Logan Chalk in studio. Yeah, let's bring mom into it once again uh up to the microphone because because you're you're kind of like mom the manager with Logan. I mean it it's amazing what an independent musician has to do on a daily basis now in the world of social media recording the music, writing the music, booking shows, it's is a 24-7 job nonstop, and social media has kind of been that one where overexposure is better these days. So how have you seen Logan with the challenges of doing all of this and then also with you in the mix too of helping him out with it? What are some of the biggest challenges right now for an independent musician that that you guys are are facing right now?
SPEAKER_11Uh just balancing everything. I mean, he it's you know, he has to balance his his school, his other job, his music. I mean, some weekends he'll do four and five gigs a weekend um you know, in his personal life. It's it's a lot. And like I said, I he's I'm fortunate enough that I'm able to help him. I don't work, so I can help him. And um, I am his mom and jer, as everyone likes to call me his momager.
SPEAKER_03That's her nickname. The momager.
SPEAKER_11And um and I have a pretty good social media following, so I've kind of just have been using that to like push his music out there, and it has really helped. And it's just kind of everything's just kind of like fallen into place, I guess we can say.
SPEAKER_03She she helps handle the Facebook, I do the TikTok and Instagram. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I do. He's you know, he's not a big Facebooker, but I am. And those honestly the people who are local and who come out to his shows and who support him, um, and I appreciate every single one of them because without those people, he would not have a show. Like without people coming out and supporting you, there is no show. You know, so I I'm always grateful to everyone, even if it's just sharing a post, sharing his song, giving a like. Anything it gets any gets my post out there more, um, you know, with his music. And he it's but again, it's not just you know, people think, okay, I'll scribble on a date, and then uh he goes out and does sings on that date and he's done. There's a lot uh that goes on behind the scenes as far as now a lot of people want contracts, like events, you know, you gotta have a contract, like if his his equipment would, you know, blow up or something that day, what you know, they it's gotta be c cover theirs, you know, their equipment. Um so there's back and forth negotiating, back and forth, and this, you know, and then trying to make it work if he's got another show, can you know? It's it's a lot, it's a lot. There is no way he could do it on his own. No way.
SPEAKER_02And one thing too, Logan, from our last interview, you're a very humble guy. I mean, you do you go out of your way to do interviews, you go out of your way to respond for folks. Where does that all come from? Because in in the country music world, once you get to be a mainstream country artist, that gets tougher and tougher to do.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think that also comes from me being shy, but it it's really just from my parents, uh just how I was raised and and how I kind of grew up. Um obviously I I I never want to be this bigot and kind of just like flash in front of everybody's face, like, hey, I'm this person, I'm this person. Like like like I said before, we're we're all people. There's no point in in doing that. I'm not better than you. That's that's not how it is. That's not how I want to be. Um like I said, we're all we're all people. I I I don't want to to come off as that kind of snobby kind of person. That's not who I want to be. That's not how I even want to be treated, right? So um I I I I try to stay humble as much as I possibly can. And I know a lot of usually when I'm at these gigs, a lot of people always tell me, Don't forget, don't forget about us, don't forget about the little people. I'm like, I will never, I'll never, especially you I'm from Maryland, we're such a small state. Uh we always know people around everywhere, so we're all we're all have each other's backs. We we all got this, so uh yeah.

SPEAKER_03Yeah, I definitely have a lot of songs sitting in my back pocket right now as well that that I've been writing and and definitely finished up. Uh definitely gonna try, even try to get down to Nashville and try to produce and get that real Nashville quality production. Uh, I think that'll help a lot. Um But honestly, like I said, for me is just it's just trying to continue to write and trying to get the sound that I really want. Lyrically and melody-wise, it it's definitely the challenge in a lot of songs, but that's something I want to strive and kind of just push myself forward a le a little bit more to truly kind of reach the audience that that wants to hear that kind of stuff as well. You know, I want to solidify myself as well in the country aspect of it. Uh whether that be like a subgenre of pop or bro country, I I want to be in that country genre. And and you know, I also with some of these songs I am writing, I want to make sure that it is country. And uh rather I'm you know, I might be singing about trucks and dirt and diesel and girls. Girls, yeah, beer, a lot of beer. Can't forget about singing about beer tractors. Oh, yeah, that's right. Uh it's not so kind of easy for me to write about some of that stuff because um I'm from Northern Maryland, which you know, when people think about Maryland, they think about Baltimore and stuff like that. But I'm from Northern Maryland, so we have a lot of a lot of farms and a lot of acres up here, so we can we can I can definitely ride a lot of stuff and get a lot of inspiration from that as well.
