Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Go Big With Gibb podcast, where we talk to professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs about their big wins. Hey guys, and welcome to this episode of Go Big With Gibb. It's your host, gibb Irons, here with you today. I am recording this episode in December of 2024. It's the end of the year, and so I want to share with you today some of the things that I'm doing here at the very end of the year as I plan for 2025.

Speaker 1:

So when I do my goal setting, I like to sit down with a pen and paper and I like to actually write things out. I like to set goals for all the major aspects of my life health, wealth and family and I like to write down three very, very specific, actionable goals for each category. For health, I'm going to do things like I'm planning to eat clean in 2025. I'm planning to exercise four times a week at least and I'm planning to monitor my sleep. But just saying those generic generalizations is really not specific and actionable enough for me to really monitor my progress. So I'm going to do this. For example, I'm going to meal plan every Sunday for the entire week, for the whole year, january 2025 through December 2025. And then, as far as my exercise goes, instead of saying, just like, I'm going to exercise four times a week, I might say I'm going to run 12 miles a week, and one thing I really like to do is to set a weekly goal because, let's be honest, if I have a daily goal, there's going to be certain days where I cannot exercise. It's easy to get down on myself when I miss one day, but if I set a goal for the week, like I'm going to run 12 miles, that gives me time to adjust and go to audibles. Another goal for me is I want to get eight to nine hours of sleep every single day and I'm looking at that on a weekly basis. So eight hours per night, seven nights a week, that's 56 hours of sleep per week.

Speaker 1:

Related to wealth, I highly recommend that you create your own or update your own personal financial statement at the end of the year. I like to do that every year. I've got a spreadsheet where I put all my assets and liabilities on the spreadsheet and I hold on to the spreadsheet and I update it periodically, not just at the end of the year but multiple times throughout the year, and I keep the historical data. Now to be a little bit more clear. What I do and what I think could work very well for you is I actually check my bank accounts and my loan balances every single day, so I check them on a daily basis. I maintain an Excel spreadsheet that has all the numbers on it, but I only maintain, like the historical data you know, like a monthly snapshot, for example, or a quarterly, will be sufficient, but what I want to do is I want to hold on to those historical spreadsheets so I can look and see how I did from year to year. You know, is my net worth growing? Are my assets increasing? Is my debt decreasing? What do I need to do to move in the right direction? Another thing that I like to do, from a wealth perspective, is create a fiscal budget for my businesses for the next year and for my personal life.

Speaker 1:

In terms of your wealth goals for 2025, you might want to make an investment, whether that's like a real estate investment or otherwise. You may have a very specific investment that you want to do, or you may have a goal of. I want to build up a certain amount of cash reserves. Another very specific actionable goal would be to pay down debts, and I like to identify specific debts that I want to pay down during the year and then look back on it at the end of year. Speaker 1:

So the third category is family, and really I should have put that category first, but I guess I saved the best for last. With family, I like to sit down and look at the year and look at the calendar for the year and I want to plan out you know, all my family trips Like these are specific trips during the year that I'm going to take with my entire family of five. I plan out my couple's getaways, date nights All those things really need to go onto the calendar first and then build my business obligations around that. Another thing I like to do is go ahead and make hotel and flight reservations so that I'm really committed to going on these trips. I've talked about this in the past, but if you've never seen it, go to jesseitzlercom. Jesse has a giant calendar that he makes and you can buy it right now at jesseitzlercom. I don't have any affiliation with him or get any kind of kickback for it, but the calendar is four foot wide and three foot tall. He gives you these color-coded sticky notes and you can put them on the calendar so you can put that calendar up on your wall and you can look at it at any time and look at your entire year at a glance.

Speaker 1:

2025 is coming and I want you to be super intentional in 2025. This is separation season. This is December. This is the time where everybody else is slowing down. If you can be planning out your year next year, you're separating yourself from the pack and if you really want to be great, now is the time to work on that. Now is the time to make specific, actionable goals. Happy New Year and thanks again for joining us today. Look forward to seeing you next time.
