Welcome to the Go Big With Gibb podcast, where we talk to professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs about their big wins. Hey guys, and welcome to this episode of Go Big With Gibb. I'm Gibb Irons, your host. It's great to have you with us Today.
Speaker 1:I want to talk about how to maximize your time with family. If you're a busy professional like me, or an entrepreneur or business person, then time is your most valuable asset. If you're not careful, all of your time will be taken up by your work and your clients and your work commitments, and so it's super important for me to be intentional about how I spend my time, and if I want to have quality time with my family, I've got to set that time aside. While I'm no expert at this, I have learned a couple of strategies to make sure that I have quality time with my wife and children, and the most important thing is that I schedule planned activities. Now, with my wife, we aim to go on one date night each week. There are certain weeks where we just cannot make that happen, but our goal is to go on one date night every week, and we typically do that on Saturday night. Another thing that I like to plan with my wife is at least once every three months. We like to go away together and spend time where it's just the two of us. This is a time for us to reconnect and to plan and just enjoy being with each other without our children. Although having children has been one of the greatest joys of our lives has been one of the greatest joys of our lives, it's a ton of stress on both of us, and particularly my wife, who stays at home with the children. Getting away, even if we just go away for one night, is a really meaningful thing. So, for example, we've planned just a very small trip to Raleigh, which is about an hour and a half away, and we're gonna go to the Umstead Spa. She'll spend the day at the spa, I'll, we'll do a couple's massage and then we'll probably go out to a really nice dinner together. And we'll also bring our calendars so we can compare notes about you know what's coming up with the kids and how we want to plan things for the next couple of months.
Speaker 1:Another thing that is really important for me is planning activities with my kids. A lot of times I like to go into the office on Saturday and work for a couple of hours, but I'll get up early. I'll go into the office while everybody else is still asleep. I'll leave the office, go do my workout and then try to spend some really high quality time with my kids. So I normally plan that for Saturday afternoon. I let the kids pick what they want to do. So if the kids have a couple of ideas, we put that on the calendar. They know to look forward to it and I know to look forward to it.
Speaker 1:As I stated earlier, I'm no expert at this, but I know how important it is to schedule these family activities. So the first thing I'm putting on my calendar for 2025 is those family trips and that quality time with kids, and that doesn't just mean showing up at their basketball games or whatever kind of event they've got going on. It means spending one-on-one quality time with them. Thanks again for joining us. I look forward to seeing you next time for joining us. I look forward to seeing you next time.
