Welcome to the Go Big With Gibb podcast, where we talk to professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs about their big wins. Welcome to this episode of Go Big With Gibb, the podcast where we talk about how to live big, work hard and stay sharp. I'm your host, gibb Irons, and today we're talking about how you can work long hours for years without burning out by taking care of your physical and mental health. Let's get started. Long hours are a reality for many of us. Whether you're running a business, climbing the corporate ladder or, like me, thriving as a trial lawyer and the managing partner of my own law office, the demands can be relentless. I've been putting in tremendous hours for over a decade and I'm still here, energized and focused. The secret Prioritizing self-care for your body and mind here's the deal. You can't pour from an empty cup. Neglect your health and burnout will come knocking. But when you invest in your physical and mental well-being, you build stamina for the long haul. Physical health, whether it's hitting the gym, running or even a daily walk, keeps your energy up and stress down. Mental health practices like meditation, journaling or just unplugging together, they're your foundation for enduring high-stress work without breaking. Now here's the game changer Find something that you love doing. When you enjoy the activity, work doesn't feel like a chore. It's a reward.
Speaker 1:For me, I really enjoy what I do as an attorney and a business owner, and so for me it's a lot of fun. But I still need to take time to rest and recharge, and for me that's a non-negotiable. As a trial lawyer, I thrive in the intensity of the courtroom and the strategy of running my own firm. That fuels my drive, but self-care sustains it. I've learned that if I carve out time for my health, I show up sharper, stronger and ready to tackle any challenge.
Speaker 1:So how do you make this work? Start small. Find one physical activity that you enjoy doing and pair it with a good mental health strategy. Find one physical activity that you enjoy doing and pair it with a good mental health strategy. Find one physical activity that you enjoy doing and pair it with a mental health habit like five minutes of deep breathing. Over time, those habits will become your lifeline. My two decades of being an attorney proves it. Self-care isn't optional. It's the fuel that keeps you going. That's it for today's. Go Big with Gibb. Take care of your body and mind. Find what you love and you'll work hard for years without burning out. Drop a review, share this with a friend or hit me up on LinkedIn. I look forward to seeing you next time.
