Ep. 87 The Art of Doing Hard Things
Growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones and take on challenges that stretch us to our limits, whether in real estate investing, fitness, or business. Embracing discomfort is the key to extraordinary success, as it builds discipline and resilience needed to achieve health, wealth, and a life bigger than you've imagined.
• Comfort zones feel safe but nothing extraordinary happens there
• Every meaningful success comes from stepping into the unknown
• Real estate investing requires pushing through initial fears and overwhelm
• Health improvements require commitment to challenging habits like early workouts
• Tim Grover's philosophy: "You can't be unstoppable if you only do what's comfortable"
• Success comes from grit and persistence, not just talent or luck
• Pick one hard thing and commit to it today
• Reframe discomfort as a signal of growth and progress
• Surround yourself with relentless people who push themselves
• Building wealth requires mindset more than just strategy

Welcome to the Go Big With Gibb podcast, where we talk to professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs about their big wins. Welcome back to Go Big With Gibb. I'm your host, gibb Irons, an attorney, entrepreneur and real estate investor. This show is about helping you achieve health, wealth and a life that's bigger than you ever imagined. Today's episode is about the power that comes from doing hard things, challenging yourself to do things you've never done before, the mindset it truly takes to go big.
Speaker 1:Growth doesn't come from comfort. Comfort zones might feel safe, but nothing extraordinary ever happens there. Every meaningful success in business investing health has come from stepping into an unknown and taking on a challenge. That has stretched me to my limits. When I first started investing in real estate, I was nervous. The numbers seemed overwhelming, the risk felt real. But leaning into that discomfort, doing something that I had never done before, is what opened the door to financial freedom and long-term wealth. The same applies to health. Running your first marathon, committing to a diet or waking up early every day to work out it's the hard things that sharpen discipline, and discipline is the bridge between where you are today and the success that you want tomorrow.
Speaker 1:Tim Grover, in his book Relentless, puts it perfectly. You can't be unstoppable if you only do what's comfortable. Being relentless means demanding more of yourself than anyone else could ever demand of you. That's the mindset it takes to go big. It's not about talent, it's not about luck. It's about grit, persistence and the willingness to keep pushing, even if it's uncomfortable, even if it feels impossible. So how can you apply this today?
Speaker 1:Here are three ways to start. Number one pick one hard thing and commit. Analyze your first real estate deal, reach out to a mentor or investor or finally, get your financial plan in order. Number two reframe discomfort as growth. The next time you feel resistance, remind yourself this isn't fear, it's progress. This is the signal that you're leveling up. Number three surround yourself with relentless people. Success leaves clues. When you're around others who push themselves, you'll be pushed too.
Speaker 1:If you want to build true wealth through real estate or through any big venture, you need more than strategy. You need mindset. You need to get comfortable being uncomfortable and you need to chase the hard things that others avoid. That's where freedom lives. That's where opportunity lives. That's where going big lives.
