Welcome And Big Wins
SPEAKER_00Welcome to the Go Big With Gibb Podcast, where we talk to professionals, business owners, and entrepreneurs about their big wins.
unknownGo with Gibson.
SPEAKER_00Welcome back to Go Big
Twenty Years In Law
SPEAKER_00With Gibb. This year marks a milestone that is hard for me to believe. I've been practicing law for 20 years. Looking back, it's funny how different life looks in the rearview mirror. Today, people see a successful law practice, businesses, investments, and a life that appears to have gone according to plan. But that's not how it felt at the
Culture Shock And Not Belonging
SPEAKER_00time. I graduated Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, then made what felt like a world-changing move to Sanford University's Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama. The culture shock was real. I went from surfing the California coast to living hundreds of miles from the ocean. Everyone wanted to know whether I was an Auburn or Alabama fan. I didn't have an answer because honestly, I could have cared less about college football. I didn't feel
Law School Struggle And GPA Lesson
SPEAKER_00like I belonged. Law school itself was incredibly difficult and challenged me academically, emotionally, and personally. There were moments when I questioned whether I had what it took. I graduated with a GPA just shy of 3.0. Nobody was calling me the top student in the class, but here's something I've learned over the years. Your GPA is not your destiny, your circumstances are not your destiny, and your setbacks are not your destiny. What matters most is what you do after the struggle.
First Break And Starting A Firm
SPEAKER_00I passed the North Carolina bar exam on my first attempt and was fortunate to receive an opportunity at a real estate firm here in Greenville. That first opportunity changed everything. A few years later, I took a leap of faith and opened my own law practice. There was no guarantee it would work. There were sleepless nights, there were difficult cases, there were financial risk. There were moments when I wondered whether I'd made the right decision, but I kept showing up one client at a time, one case at a time, one day at a time. Fast forward 20 years, and I couldn't be more grateful. I've had the privilege of helping thousands of clients during the most difficult times in their lives. I've built businesses I never imagined I'd own. I've worked with incredible people and I've been blessed with opportunities that I certainly didn't deserve.
Dark Before Dawn Mindset
SPEAKER_00If there's one lesson I've learned over the past two decades, it's this things are often darkest before the dawn. The season you're in today is not necessarily the season you'll be in tomorrow. Success rarely happens all at once. It's built through perseverance, it's built through resilience, and it's built by refusing to quit, when quitting would be easier.
Encouragement And Closing Charge
SPEAKER_00So if you're listening to this today and you're struggling, whether it's in school, your career, your finances, or your personal life, I want to encourage you, keep going. Your breakthrough may be a lot closer than you think. The hard seasons often produce the strongest people. Twenty years ago, I never could have imagined the life that I have today. And I'm convinced the best chapters are still ahead. Thanks for listening. Thank you for believing in this community. And until next time, keep dreaming big, keep working hard, and as always, go big.
