Speaker 1:

Hey, hey, hey, welcome back to Kings perspective, episode 3. Yes, that's right, you heard it correctly episode 3, and I know you're wondering how is that even possible? What's possible? Due to listeners like you. You've listened to episode 1, 2 and now 3, and I appreciate that. Now I usually talk on things all pop culture, so we'll go ahead and begin with this episode here with my favorite genre film. Now, the films I'm getting ready to mention or talk about here are based on a rotten tomato score. So we have Rebel Moon, part 1, a child of fire, with a rotten tomato score of 23%. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, with a rotten tomato score of 35%. Now, I did check that film out roughly two weeks ago and thought it was the greatest thing ever. It's the last installment for the DC EU, and what I mean by that is about.

Speaker 1:

Sometime last year, warner Brothers and DC Comics decided they wanted to shake things up and they wanted to reboot the whole DC EU. So they started off by saying it was going to be called DC Universe instead of DC Extended Universe, and they needed someone to come in and oversee making sure the world building was done correctly. So they chose an extended and olive branch to James Gunn. James Gunn is from Marvel Cinematic Universe and he was director of the Guardians of the Galaxy 1, 2 and 3. James agreed and when he agreed he wanted to go ahead and reboot everything. So you won't have your actors like Jason Mamoa, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck and Ezra Miller which he was already on his way out anyway because of his controversies reprising their roles as their respective heroes. So when they reboot this world, they're going to be introducing some obscure characters that you never heard of, or real deep cut characters, and then slowly reintroduce the likes of Batman, superman, wonder Woman, aquaman, flash, those main Justice League characters, but they'll be played by different actors. So overall, I enjoyed the movie. Like I said it for it to be the last installment, I just wish they weren't tearing it down. The DC even just continue building it on with the likes of those characters. But with all things in life, change happens. Sometimes change is good.

Speaker 1:

Wonka, a prequel to Charlie chocolate Factory, as a rotten tomato score of 83%. Leave the world behind as a rotten score of 76, which I've talked about. This film at Nauseam, the Iron Claw, has a rotten tomato score of 89%. Now, this film is about the Von Erick brothers who made history in the competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 80s through tragedy and trial under the shadow of their domineering father and coach. Now I'm not a big wrestling fan, as I once was in the early 90s and early 2000s, so I'm familiar with wrestling. Some of my favorite wrestlers but I've been at the time when I was watching it from, I'd say, 92 up until 2002 would have been the likes of Hulk Hogan, macho man Randy Savage, Bret Hart Shawn Michaels, the Rock, Stone cold, Ultimate Warrior the list goes on. But the Von Erich brothers they kind of predate even me a little bit in the 80s. So it'll be interesting checking out this film and seeing the Von Erich brothers and their claim to fame and how they ran through the WWF during the the 80s.

Speaker 1:

According to IMDb, films that are considered to be global and pop culture 1994's Shawshank Redemption. 1972, the Godfather co-classic classic Astor piece, even the second same titles as well. The only one of that whole trilogy that doesn't really get talked about, and for good reason, is the third installment of the Godfather. Just, I go on, but let's just put it in very simplistic. Then they should have stopped that guy father too. 2008, the Dark Knight, and that was considered one of the best superhero films ever made. It's about Batman and his archonymus Joker. This is, I believe at that time, the second portrayal of a Joker with Heath Ledger, who actually won an Academy Award for his portrayal. Great film directed by Christopher Nolan, who, you know, just recently directed Robin Heimer Lord of the Rings 2003. Not a big fan of that series, so I can't give you much back story on that one other than, if you like Lord of the Rings, hey then it's considered one of the best films.

Speaker 1:

1997's Titanic I can't think of one person who has not seen Titanic Classic film as well, and the ending scene, for the most part, with Rose having to push Jack off the door that she was laying on to survive, was a girl to do, right, I mean, there's only enough room for one person on there. So at this point decisions had to be made and Jack had to go. I'm sure he was understanding, though, far as staying with. Movies are streaming as well. We have one, dave Chappelle, with the Dreamer. He just released a standoff special on Netflix on December 31st 2023, and the special Chappelle mocks his Hollywood Bowl attack. He touches on the Will Smith and Chris Rock situation. The special was filmed at Lincoln Theater in his hometown of Washington DC.

Speaker 1:

I watched the series and the best way to put it is if you've seen any of his standoffs, expect pretty much the same, but just more up to date with current events for the most part, but definitely controversial, but comedic genius as well. So if you're a fan of his humor and his outlook on life and his political views, then this would be the standoff that you'd want to check out. New films arriving in January of 2024. Self-reliance the premise states here. When a man is offered a million dollars to play a game in which hunters try to kill him, he thinks he has found a perfect loophole. They can only attack when he's alone. So, from what I had seen on the trailer, there he's devising ways to be close to people, friends and family so that these hitmen that are engaging in this game with him can't take him out while he's around other individuals. Now we have the book of Clarence.

Speaker 1:

The synopsis here says A clever story said during the times of Jesus, a down on his luck, jerusalem might embarks on a misguided attempt to capitalize on the rise of celebrity and influence the Messiah for his own personal gain. So he's posing as Jesus as well. Sounds like for me and for what I've seen on the trailer that it does work a little bit for him, but then, once his celebrity begins to be bigger and more miracles are asked of him, then that's when things go awry, and then now he's a false prophet, essentially. We have another film here called Underdogs. Now the synopsis says this follows Jason two. J's Jennings, a washed up former pro football star who hits rock bottom in a sentence to community service coaching an unruly Pee Wee football team in his hometown. So looking at the trailer and I believe this is an Amazon exclusive, a Star, snoop Dogg and Mike Epps the filming premise really reminds me of Hardball in the early 2000s, with Keanu Reeves helping underprivileged kids play baseball, and Bad News Bears when they did a version of that in the early to mid 2000s, and the Bad News Bears of the late 70s, early 80s. So the only difference that separates the films essentially is one's dealing with baseball, one's dealing with football, but I think with Snoop Dogg and Mike Epps they'll bring some type of nuance and comedic performances as well to kind of keep the audience engaged. Should be entertaining, though.

Speaker 1:

Here are some of the latest happenings in film. So Netflix has a new film that they'll be debuting here soon called Society of Snow. It's a survival film inspired by Flight 571, which was carrying a rugby team and their friends and family when it crashed in a remote part of the Andes Mountains in 1972. Now I've seen something similar to this in the early 90s and I think it was called Flight 71, and it dealt with the crash and the aftermath of those who remained alive, showing how they would have to survive until hell came, you know, living off of whatever rations they have, clothing to stay warm and then also making a pet that they would essentially eat those who died to survive. It wasn't the easiest choice at the time that it seemed like in that movie but eventually decisions had to be made and they did what they did so that they could survive.

Speaker 1:

More controversy here there's an ongoing debate about whether or not it's appropriate to release the film Rust After the tragic shooting incident on set with Alec Baldwin and Halea Hitchens. Essentially, the production company and the movie company are trying to figure out ways to still go forward with this, and it's a bit insensitive to release a film like this to Ms Hutchins, her family and friends. But on the business side they're still trying to make a profit and reach their principle. So their probably goal is thinking well, let's go ahead and release a film that's going to be controversial and making an announcement and they will release it. They'll get talked about, people will come out and see it. Of course, the shooting incident won't be in the film, but any buzz to generate people to come out and droves to see the film and generate profit. Essentially that's all it's about.

Speaker 1:

And then again, with DC Universe, superman Legacy is set to start filming in a few months, according to James Gunn. So again, james is working on overall world building here. So he's going to be introducing, like I said, obscure characters, but he'll start slowly introducing characters you're familiar with, and this one will be Superman. Now, with Superman here, it's going to be a reboot. It's not going to be with Henry Cavill and it's going to be an origin story telling of the umpteenth time that most people will be familiar with. So nothing new here. My only hope is that once they finally get that world put together you know it may take maybe five, seven years they don't make the decision to say you know what we don't like the way this is going. We want to get rid of James Gunn here, we want to bring somebody else in and we want to reboot it again, and then at that point, it's just like you lose all faith in DC.

Speaker 1:

Now, transitioning over to music, making a trending comeback is the song Easy on Me by Adele. It was the lead single from her fourth studio album, 30, and it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 30, 2020. So for all you Adele fans, she's got music, not only current but old, trending at this moment. Easy on Me seems to be the one that you want to start with, and if you're new to Adele, easy on Me would be somewhere you want to start.

Speaker 1:

Music genres that were popular in 2023, pop, rock and rap, hip hop, based off of purchasing and streaming. Pop doesn't surprise me because pop, essentially, is just popular music. Rock does, because I don't hear much rock on the radio, nor do I see any videos. But again, what's being streamed and what's purchased? But even streaming wise, I don't really hear much rock. Rap and hip hop doesn't surprise me because it's a popular genre right now. Rap and hip hop touches on rock, if you remember, with Post Malone, mgk, beastie Boys, and it also bleeds into pop music. You have some popular artists who rap that aren't really in the rap game but are considered rap. One that I would consider would be Doja Cat. She does rap, but she's considered a popular artist. Rap and hip hop also bleeds into R&B and soul. They have a genre there, actually, where it's like R&B and hip hop. So those are the three top genres of 2023. Now, according to Wikipedia, for the month of January, rapper Drake is the most streamed artist of all time on Spotify. No surprise, they are.

Speaker 1:

Singer songwriter. Taylor Swift is the most streamed female. No surprise, they're either. Because people love Taylor Swift. It's either 1A, 1b. It's either. You like Taylor Swift. If you don't like her, you like Beyonce. If you don't like Beyonce, you like Taylor Swift. And then, with Taylor Swift rerecording her first four albums and getting all the writing credits, the masters. What that does then in turn, puts that music back on the charts for her to stay relevant again and those songs to be trending again at number one, number two, number three, whatever, respectively, right. And then it says here Bad Bunny has been the most streamed global artist for the year, for four, three years, sorry, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Speaker 1:

No surprise there, because I spent the last few years is like Bad Bunny, this Bad Bunny, that Bad Bunny, bad Bunny. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing about Bad Bunny or any music, or if it wasn't music, he was in a film, a bullet train, and then also making his presence known in the WWE for wrestling. So it's like this dude is multi talented up and coming hip hop artists that you should know about Air Fun. Kaush Del, a Persian pop artist who has been making popularity in recent years. Money Long, a singer and rapper who has been praised for her unique style and sound. More, a rapper and singer who has been making waves with his soulful and introspective lyrics. Elfie Templeman, a singer and songwriter who's been gaining popularity with his catchy and upbeat music. Maybe blue, a rapper and producer who's been praised for his introspective and poetic lyrics. Lastly, willow Kane, a rapper and singer who's been gaining popularity with her unique style and sound. So I'll keep an eye on these artists, since they're being known at the top of this year here. Listen out for them throughout the year and definitely going into the new year of 2025. Usually, once new artists start coming out and make their names known within one year. The next following year that you're usually pretty much blown up. I would say probably one of these artists on this list will be known globally within the next three, four years.

Speaker 1:

Transitioning over to sports Karen Williams, kyryn sorry. Williams ran for 87 yards, a career best, three touchdowns and the Los Angeles Rams inch closer to returning to the playoffs, where they much harder than expected 26 to 25 victory over the New York Giants. The Rams, you know they won a championship at the very least just roughly two and a half three years ago, so they still have intact some of the core nucleus of that team. Now they might have lost some players to contract negotiations, which you know, free agency trades or retirement. For the most part that team's still intact, so it doesn't surprise me that they would win over the New York Giants, as they should, and then inching back into the playoffs should be something that should be expected for all NFL teams, but especially this team, since you just won a Super Bowl.

Speaker 1:

Like I said, two and a half three years ago, the San Francisco 49ers clinched the number one seed in the NFC with a 27 to 10 win over their Washington commanders. This season. For the San Francisco 49ers that shaped out well. They're at the top of the NFC. They pretty much came out the gate just winning at this point and haven't really slowed down. I think at most they've lost like maybe three games. So I would say a team like that in particular, I'd expect to win a Super Bowl. So they're going to go deep into playoffs. Now if they get to the point where they win the semifinals and get into the Super Bowl, they would be a favorite if they get there.

Speaker 1:

For me, the Washington commanders are training toward major personnel changes, which include firing head coach Ron Rivera. The Washington Washington commanders current record is 412, fourth in the NFC East division. So in that division you have the commanders, you have the Giants, you have the Eagles and the Cowboys. Now, right now, as of current or present, the number one in their division would be the Dallas Cowboys, the number two would be the Philadelphia Eagles and then the third slot would be the New York Giants and then, of course, the commanders are fourth. Both teams, meaning the other Giants and the commanders, as of late, the last couple years, have been struggling to keep pace with the Eagles and the Cowboys. It's pretty much interchangeable each year which one is going to take control of the division. One year might be Dallas, next year it may be the Eagles, but it's only been those two each and every year. There's really been no changes of improvement for the Giants.

Speaker 1:

And then the only changes or improvement that the commanders have had is name change. You know they had an offensive team name in the Redskins. A few years later they decided to change it to Washington football team, which was a very generic sounding name for a team which was God awful. It wasn't until just recently they decided to change it to the Washington commanders, which was more respectable. But even though the name is respectable, the team is not. They have not made any waves of doing anything to really generate any buzz, to make anyone say hey, you know, that's the team, I want to go in my free agency or I want to be traded. You know, even with the players being drafted, you can see it on the screen when they're drafted, the dread in their face like, oh man, I got to go to the Washington commanders Might as well be the Washington generals. If you know anything about the Washington generals, that's a team that plays against the Harlem Globetronners, a generic team. So you're not going to find much fanfare there, with anybody trying to play for the Washington commanders.

Speaker 1:

Now onto winning team the Steelers, it says here the Steelers head coach, mike Tomlin, has gone 17 straight seasons as the Steelers head coach without a losing record. So what that looks like is is a record somewhere between 10 and seven, 11 and six or 12 and five consistently and making us wait into the playoffs, sometimes going deep into the playoffs or you know, getting to the playoffs and maybe being bounced out in the first round or second round, but under his tutelage. While Mike Tomlin has been there, he has won, I believe, two Super Bowls. Don't don't hold me on to, but I know he's won one, and for 17 seasons. I couldn't tell you how many coaches are successful like that. So I feel like the Roonies, the owners of the Steelers, are going to keep him around because he's got a winning pedigree at this point. If they decided now to get rid of him right and bring in somebody else, they're not going to see quite the success that they're seeing with Mike Tomlin now. They'd be crazy.

Speaker 1:

Looking to, jordan Love, the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, was named the NFC's offensive player of the week after producing four total touchdowns and a 33 to 10 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The Green Bay Packers aren't a bit of a rebuild. They just recently parted ways with Aaron Rogers and this kid here, jordan Love, is the future. But they've been struggling and it's very deja vu like because while Jordan Love was waiting in the rings until they forgot what they were going to do with Aaron Rogers, because prior to the talks were oh, aaron's going to retire, he's going to retire, and then they're going to bring up Jordan Love. Well, it never went that way. Aaron was actually fed up with the way the Packers organization was going and demanded a trade and he got that. So then all of a sudden he came up. But if you remember, before this whole controversy Aaron was waiting in the wings until Brett Favre retired and Favre, if I remember correctly, it didn't pan out that way for him. He ended up getting traded to the Jets. Then up comes Aaron Rogers takeover for the Packers. He did win a championship while he was there. So I think they're hoping that the same history repeats itself with Jordan Love here, and it may be a will, but we'll have to see.

Speaker 1:

Now it says here the Steelers rejuvenated their offense by keeping Mason Rudolph as a starting quarterback over Kenny Pickett, and in doing so it's kept their playoff pitcher alive. So they're still on the thick of things. They're still on the race for a playoff spot. Now they'll be dependent, though, on the Miami Dolphins to essentially lose. No, no, no it will be. Essentially they'll mean to win, but that should be fine. The Miami's as a plate have kind of had this up and down slope here. So as long as Miami takes a hill on week 18, that ensures that the Steelers get in.

Speaker 1:

Now, another team that's kind of on a wing and a prayer here as well is the Minnesota Vikings. We're trying to keep their playoff pitcher alive as well and week 18 going up against the Detroit Lions and, honestly, that's not going to be easy for them, because Detroit is red hot right now. I think at the most they've got like three losses. So, minnesota going in up against that bus, all Good luck. If they pull off the impossible, cool, great. But if they don't, you know, it's kind of one of those things and my expectations begin with. Anyway, I didn't expect you guys to win anyway. As for the NBA, miami Heat's Banda Abayo is thriving as a team's defensive leader, which is great because they need a defensive anchor in the low post. He can play a little perimeter as well, but the download on the post is much needed. So it's a great addition that he's finally coming into his own and can help out Jimmy Butler as well.

Speaker 1:

Oklahoma City star Big man Chet Holmgren and Miami standout Wayne I'm a hockey as junior continue to shine in the latest rookie rankings. One person that's actually left off their rookie ranking would be Victor Wimbanyama from the San Antonio Spurs. What he's done for that franchise right now at this moment has brought a buzz and hype that can be unmatched. We're talking about a guy who is seven, four, seven, five on a really extremely good day who can defend the perimeter. He can defend down low in the post defensively, but offensively he can score down low. He can also score from the perimeter. He's got a decent mid-range as well. I mean, it's his Swiss Army knife. So to me him not being considered in the ranking here is kind of a crime. But I do see where Chet's doing really great and I do see where Miami's doing exceptionally well, especially for rookie. In the Miami Heat culture. It's not an easy culture to excel in, but he's doing it. I would say for Jaime, I would expect him to emerge as the third option to help them go further in the season and in the playoffs.

Speaker 1:

Now Denver's high flying big man, aaron Gordness, out indefinitely after suffering dog bites to his hand and face on Christmas Day. That's a shame because he's their third option. In Denver you have Jamal Murray and Nicola Jokic. Those two pretty much keep the ship going, but when they you know, maybe Murray or Jokic is injured for like maybe a day or two with some type of minor spraying, aaron Gordness pretty much there to be the second option to one of them one of them if one of them are out. And him being out is a shame as well, because he was just essentially coming into his own there in Denver, where his game had been more well rounded. Early on his career he was just known for dunking. People compared him to Vince Carter and Blake Griffin. But now, as he's gone further in his career, especially in Denver, he's perfected his low post game, mid range and three point shooting and became a defensive presence as well, which helped them last season win a championship. So with him being out at this moment, it'll be very interesting to see how things pan out for Jokic and Murray going forward with the season, if that really is a big factor going forward for them.

Speaker 1:

Former Democratic US Senator from Wisconsin, herb Nell, who bought the Milwaukee Bucks in 1985 and owned them until 2014, passed away at the age 88. Now what's interesting about that is that he let go that franchise in 2014,. If he just would have been able to hang along until seven more years, he would have been able to see them win a franchise championship under his tutelage. But I'm sure they invited him to the celebration and gave him maybe some type of remembering ring. Being a former owner, possibly, but just the timing of him letting it go was just interesting.

Speaker 1:

The power rankings for top NBA teams at this moment as we speak the Celtics with a record of 25 and six, the Minnesota Timber Bulls with a record of 24 and seven, and then the Denver Nuggets inching into that third slot with a record of 23 and 11, even with the injuries, especially the one very monumental injury with Aaron Gordon, there's still and the upper echelon of teams to contend with and be sought after. To beat Trade news here, the Dallas Mavericks, indiana Pacers and the Atlanta Hots are reportedly interested in trading for Pascal Siakam. Now it states here. Toronto Raptors for Pascal Siakam has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors dating back to 2022 and 2023 season. To me, there's only one team on here that could use his assistance and that would be the Atlanta Hots. I don't think Dallas Mavericks need him. They're solidified, they're good. Indiana Pacers just pushed the Lakers close to elimination in the NCs in tournament championship game, so they're good. They went tip for tab with the Lakers. So Atlanta Hots, they need a third score. They only have Trey Yong and Dejante Murray and they're still struggling. So I would really look at Atlanta Hots trying to push hard for Siakam.

Speaker 1:

College football the Rose Bowl was one of the semifinals so 2023, 2024, college Bowl playoff, and it featured two of the four teams selected by the CFP selection committee the Michigan Wolverines and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The game was won by the Michigan Wolverines with a score of 27 to 20. The game went in the overtime and I did not like the fact that the Crimson Tide elected to kick off to the Wolverines, which the Wolverines drove down the field and eventually scored, and they kicked the ball off to Alabama, which Alabama, you know, tried to do what they could to go back and score, but we're short and ultimately lost that game. I think if they would have chosen to elect to receive and had that momentum writing, the outcome could have been definitely different. In the Super Bowl you have the Washington Huskies and Bears Victoris beating Texas Longhorns at a closely contested match. The win secured a spot for the Huskies in the College Football Playoff National Championship against the Michigan Wolverines in January 8th. I had the Texas Longhorns winning that game as well, but Washington overall was just too much All right.

Speaker 1:

Transitioning to television, here are some of the most popular television shows right now as we speak Percy Jackson and the Olympians with a 96% rot-tomato score. Reacher with a 100% rot-tomato score. What If by? Marvel currently holds a 87% rot-tomato score. Dr Death with a 80% rot-tomato score. A murder at the end of the world holds a 88% rot-tomato score. Fargo currently holds a 96% rot-tomato score. If you're familiar with Fargo the movie I believe that was like mid 90s Well, what they did or developed is a TV series and it still takes place in Minnesota. It just had different time periods, so most of those series still tie into the original film. And then, lastly, slow Horses holds a 97% rot-tomato score.

Speaker 1:

Here are some of the most anticipated TV shows that are expected to be released in 2024. Regine, a crime drama series starring Kate Leslie, sets in a small town in Pennsylvania, haggathon. Dark Hole Diaries, a spin-off of the popular series WandaVision, featuring Catherine Hahn as the lead character. Sympathizer, a spy thriller series based on the Pulitzer Prize winning Knopf. Interview with the Vampire, a horror drama series based on the novel by Anne Rice. And, lastly, the Last of Us, season 2, based on the video game of the same name. So Season 2 I talked about it. I believe in episode one and two, that they're coming back, hopefully this year, probably at the very end of this year of 2024. It's going to be season two is going to pick right where it left off in season one, with Joel and Helly and their adventure.

Speaker 1:

Another anticipated series here on Disney plus is Echo. It's based on the Marvel Comics character in the same name and is intended to be the 10th television series in the spin-off of the series Hawkeye from 2021. The series will consist of five episodes and is scheduled to be released on Disney plus in Hulu on January 9, 2024. The series sees Maya Lopez return to her hometown, where she must come to terms with her past, reconnect with her native American roots and embrace her family and community. Now, one thing to keep in mind about this series is it's going to be rated R, so it's going to be the first for Disney plus series to be rated R.

Speaker 1:

Dylan was streaming again on YouTube though Club Shae Shae, a podcast hosted by Shannon Sharp, a former NFL player and sports analyst. Shannon Sharp played for the Denver Brown Girls and the Baltimore Ravens. After his career in NFL was over, he did sports analyst for CBS, espn, and then had a show with another analyst, skip Bayless, called undisputed on FS1. Once that was over, he's moving back over to ESPN and then, in part time, what he does is his club Shae Shae on YouTube. He also claimed that Cedric the entertainer stole one of his jokes and used it in the movie the original Kings of Comedy. That conversation that was hosted on YouTube was two hours and 46 minutes.
