Speaker 1:

Yo yo yo, welcome back. It's King's Perspective with King Chill, episode 19. Yes, as I always say, consecutive, consistent, all gas, no brakes. I would be remiss if I didn't take the time out to just say again 19 episodes and 19 weeks. Each episode, just a week, totaling to about 40 to 45 minutes, couldn't be possible without the people here still listening. So again, I want to take the time out before we get even into the show and started by thanking you, the loyal listeners, for making this possible. Hopefully we can keep this going. Based off of the production and numbers that I'm seeing here is that it seems like it's got its own niche or space here where people still value and like the show. So as long as that's still happening, I'll keep it going. And, as always with the show here, I speak on all things weekly on film, music, sports, television, video games. You know certain things that you might have been thinking on, that I may touch on, or something that you may not even thought of, that I'll touch on. So you know that's what the show is about, just kind of keep you informed for the week or as the weeks go on. So let's get the show started here with film. Here are some of the most popular films right now that everybody's watching.

Speaker 1:

Abigail. The plot revolves around six criminals who plan to capture Abigail, a ballerina dancer and a 12-year-old daughter of a powerful underworld figure in New York City. As they bring her to a secluded mansion, they are instructed not to disclose any personal information amongst themselves or Abigail. The group, using alias derived from the Rat Pack, includes a diverse cast of characters with unique backgrounds and skills. However, they soon find themselves in over their heads when they realize that Abigail is not an ordinary girl but a child-sized vampire ballerina. Then we have here Immaculate. The movie follows Sister Cecilia, a young woman devout faith who receives an invitation to reside at a picturesque Italian coven. However, as she settles in, she slowly realizes that the coven harbors terrifying secrets. And then Back to Black, which is like an autobiography on Amy Winehouse film explores Amy's Jewish family background, her rise to fame and the creation of her iconic album Back to Black. It delves into some personal struggles, including her relationship with Blake Fielder Civil, her battles with addiction and the impact of her grandmother's illness. The story is told from Amy's perspective, inspired by her deeply personal lyrics, and follows the remarkable woman behind the music and the phenomenon?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, um, definitely would be interested in checking it out because I remember when she hit the scene here in the us, um, for me back in 2007 and that back to black album was just like gangbusters, man, like you couldn't go nowhere without hearing some of the songs and everybody asking, hey, have you heard Amy Winehouse? You know Amy Winehouse is Amy Winehouse. That and I'm having the full, complete album of Back to Black at the time where it had certain remixes to the song and mainly the remixes were just like other artists added to the song. Like I know there was a song with jay-z that she did, a song that she did with the ghostface killer and then most stuff, um, that added features that um kind of filled. Some of the songs are a little shorter, but with those lyrics added, it filled the songs a little bit more. But overall, yeah, I would say that album I think the runtime was like 35 minutes so you can put it on and listen to it all the way through and really not have to skip anything. I would say probably at that particular time, complete album. I want to say she might have won a grammy for album as well, which was well-deserved.

Speaker 1:

Now new releases coming up this week we have Fall Guy and this entertaining movie. Ryan Gosling plays the role of Colt Severs, a Hollywood stuntman who happens to be a bounty hunter. The film captures the general tone of the 80s television, blending humor, romance, mystery and action, and its nostalgic nod to the era of a movie star where charismatic performers could hold viewers' attention throughout any narrative speed bump and then Unfrosted, which I think is going to be interesting if it's true. Think is going to be interesting if it's true and it's not fabricated. In 1963, michigan, michigan businessman. No, in 1963, michigan business rivals Kellogg and Post compete to complete a pastry that will change the face of breakfast and its tale of breakfast betrayal. Breakfast and its tale of breakfast betrayal, fresh ideas and the race to create something that could revolutionize morning meals. So basically it's a pop tart. Um, so, especially when the first one dropped, it wasn't frosted but um, this film again is going to show the two points of views between kellogg and post, uh, trying to create what would be known as the Pop-Tart. And I believe it has the star. It's an ensemble cast, but I know the head main headliner is going to be Jerry Seinfeld, so it'll be interesting to see. Should be coming out this Friday. And then Wildcat.

Speaker 1:

In the movie, maya Hawk portrays Flannery O'Connell, a young writer facing obstacles in her quest for literary recognition. Set in the 1960s, the film captures the essence of O'Connell's life O'Connor sorry life and creative struggles. As Flannery grapples with health issues and the challenges of getting her work published, she returns to her home state of Georgia and in films with great replay value, we have the Social Network. The film portrays the founding of a social networking website, facebook, and the movie Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the platform that would later become known as Facebook. However, he faces legal challenges from the twins who claim he stole the idea from the co-founder, who was later squeezed out of the business. Yeah, the network. I remember when it came out, the social network, to be exact. I remember it came out, it was kind of like oh man, this is really how this went down. The twins, they had something that basically was essentially Facebook, but it wasn't called Facebook, and then his partners for Mark Zuckerberg were basically pushed out. And then I think the dude from Napster somehow got into it, who was portrayed by not portrayed but, yeah, portrayed by Justin Timberlake. And yeah, justin Timberlake's role as that dude was just ugh, but it was great overall, just kind of seeing the story unfold, the history of how it all started. As we know now, as Facebook still going strong I mean, there's a whole slew of other social media platforms out there, but somehow Facebook is still relevant, which surprises me, though, because MySpace isn't Now. Facebook is still doing the same, but, like I remember, it was MySpace because I had a MySpace page but Facebook somehow toppled MySpace and I remember they tried to revive my space for like a second, but it was too late. So yeah, interesting Push Synopsis here is.

Speaker 1:

Since 1945, various countries have set up a division to track, categorize and experiment on people with psychic abilities, aiming to turn them into soldiers. Two movers, jonah Grant Gant and his young son Nick, were pursued by the US Division. Jonah instructs Nick to help a girl who will one day give him a flower in the future. So then you fast forward to the present, where the US Division has developed a drug that can boost psychic abilities. Pusher Kira Hudson successfully adapts to it and steals a syringe of drugs. She flees the aid by the aid of another woman in the facility. So, if I remember correctly, push and I have it somewhere in my home was, I think, right before. Geez, I cannot think his name. Right now I can see his face Captain America, chris Evans. There we go. I want to say it might have been before he actually it would have been after his Fantastic Four movies, but it might have been right before he start portraying Captain America in MCU, which wasn't a bad film, the premise of Push and the psychic abilities of what they could do with their mind with telekinesis and things of that nature. I'm just surprised they didn't get into making a second film, or if they did, they might have gone straight to DVD and just really not got much recognition. But overall the film again was great. Another film here with great replay value, seen multiple times here. Sorry to Bother you Now.

Speaker 1:

The film follows Cassius Cash Green, a young black telemarketer living in his uncle Sergio's garage with his artist girlfriend from Detroit Struggling to pay rent. Cash lands a job at Regal View as a telemarketer, initially having trouble with customers. He learns to use his white voice and a fluent persona on calls, which leads to success. Cash's co-worker Squeeze forms a union and Cash is unexpectedly promoted to an elite power caller position. So yes, you heard it right Based off my synopsis the white voice, the affluent persona it actually was. I can't remember Danny Glover's character's name, but it was Danny Glover, coming in as a supporting cast member of the film, showing Cash how to essentially use the white voice. And once he used the white voice, he was able to, on his telemarketing calls. He was able to, on his telemarketing calls, get more of the customers to pay attention to him. As that started happening, he was able to get to what would be called power caller, which shot him up to the next level, and the next level was selling weapons of mass destruction, essentially to other dignitaries and leaders of other countries. But as the film goes on, cassius is making hand over fist with dollars, but does have a conscience and realize that the company he's working for from the bottom level no one knows exactly. Companies working for from the bottom level, no one knows exactly, but as you raise up in the ranks it's definitely nefarious with what they're doing there and, as I said, as he grows, has a change of heart, he tries to take down the very company that is helping him rise out of poverty. So, overall, though, the film was very interesting. Okay, so on to music Famous musicians from Kansas.

Speaker 1:

So we have Janelle Monae. Hailing from Kansas City, kansas. Janelle Monae is a multifaceted artist who fuses funk, soul, r&b and hip-hop and her distinctive sound can be heard in songs like Tightrope. Monet is not only a musician but also an actor, having appeared in successful films like Moonlight, hidden Figures. With 10 Grammy nominations, she's recognized for her talent and creativity. Charlie Parker, born in Kansas City, kansas, charlie Parker is arguably one of the most famous jazz alto saxophone players in the world. His bebop jazz standards like anthro and relish and scrapple from the apple, left an indelible mark on the genre. Despite struggles with drug abuse and mental health issues, parker's impact on music remains unforgettable.

Speaker 1:

Lastly, here Joe Walsh. Originally from Wichita, kansas, joe Walsh gained mainstream success with his solo debut album the Smoker you Drink, the Player you Get. Hits like Rocky Mountain Way propelled him to fame. He later joined the rock band Eagles, contributing as a guitarist, guitarist and vocalist and keyboardist. Walsh also continues to make music with solo and with the Eagles group. All right.

Speaker 1:

Now here's some music releases you might find interesting Pearl Jam, dark Matter, an unexpectedly sleek and streamlined of the old rock band of the 90s. But they kind of considered this album a bit of a prime Team Bone Burnett the other side, the great songwriter and producer first set of songs in almost 20 years, simply equivalent and emotionally powerful. And then another one here that surprised me about a couple weeks back that didn't really get much recognition, it just kind of flew under the radar was Pharrell Williams' Black Yacht Rock Volume 1, city of Limitless Access. It's a surprise album by, again, pharrell Williams on his 51st birthday. The album features 10 fully solo R&B and pop tracks. It's exclusively available through Pharrell Williams' website for free, and here are some of the track by track breakdowns that I have here for you.

Speaker 1:

Richard Millie, named after um, or Richard Mill, but some people call it Richard Millie. It's named after a watch, a very, very expensive, uh, famous watch, um, a track that kicks off the album with Pharrell's signature style. And then Dandelion, spelled L-Y-I-N-G, another intriguing track title that invites listeners to explore the song's lyrics. Come on, donna, a track that likely carries its own unique narrative, just for fun. Pharrell's playful side shines through in this song. Cage Bird Free, a soulful track that might invoke emotions Ball. The title suggests a lively and upbeat uptune. 11-11, perhaps a reflective or introspective song. Who Needs Rest? An interesting question posed by Pharrell Shero. A mysterious title that leaves room for interpretation. And then, going Back to Virginia, the last track, closing track paying homage to Pharrell's home state of Virginia.

Speaker 1:

And then here are some trends in music to keep an eye out for 2024. Comedy music has always been popular and continues to tickle our ribs, whether it's Weird Al Yankovic or more recent hits like Planet of Bass. Humor-infused tunes resonate with audience. Planet of the Bass spoofed the 90s Eurodance so well that it became a TikTok sensation. Musicians experimenting with unconventional sounds, creating unique blends and genres, expect to hear unexpected combinations that push creative boundaries. And then AI and music. Artificial intelligence is playing a significant role in music creation, from AI-generated compositions to personalized playlists. Technology is shaping the industry's future.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I've seen on X, formerly known as Twitter, where you'll hear a song by an artist and a like exclusively new drop song, and then it's like oh, by Taylor Swift, or in the vault from Prince or Michael Jackson, or who else could be big at this time? Doja Cat, something of that nature, right? Somebody big, ariana Grande and then come to find out that this tune is actually auto not auto, but AI that somebody went out and created. Somebody went out and created that, just found a way to write the lyrics in the same tone as the artist and then have the AI kind of coded or sing it as it was. The artist most notably would have been man. I cannot think of the track, but Drake, the rapper from Canada, has been having a bit of a sparring match with Kendrick Lamar, right, so he decided to have a diss track created by AI using Tupac and Snoop Dogg. I cannot remember what the song was called, but once people heard that it was like Tupac and we all know Tupac is dead. But they start to listen to the song they realize, ok, this is not Tupac, this is AI, because, like, the stuff that he's rapping about is like too current. There's no way this is Tupac. So yeah, artists are experimenting with AI on tracks and using former artists as well to help them in rap beefs or to be a feature on a song. So go figure On to sports MLB.

Speaker 1:

We have Shohei Ohtani. The two-way superstar of the Los Angeles Dodgers has set new standards for Japanese slugging excellence in the MLB. He recently surpassed Hadoki Matsui to become the first-born Japanese player with the most home runs in MLB history. The accusation of Juan Soto has been a topic of discussion among MLB execs. Soto, known for his hitting prowessess, could have a significant impact on the New York Yankees performance in the 2024 season. Dynamic duos have played a crucial role in baseball history and Soto's presence alongside other Yankee stars could be a game changer. And then as for Paul Skeens, a former national champion at LSU and the number one overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023, has been dominating the minor leagues, now pitching for a triple A in Indianapolis. Skeens approached the game with a catcher's mindset, calling pitches like he's behind the plate. His wicked arsenal has caught the attention of baseball enthusiasts.

Speaker 1:

And then on to the NBA. We have the Minnesota Timberwolves versus the Phoenix Suns. Anthony Edwards continues to be a handful for the Suns, who now sit on the edge of devastating playoff exit. Update it says you know, I had it at the time as 3-0, but as of today, or tonight at the time of recording, they have swept the Phoenix Suns. Joel Embiid versus the New York Knicks. Joel Embiid delivers on an impressive game despite foul trouble, and the 76ers' huge third quarter carries them to a game three victory. Additionally, mb reveals his ball bells sorry palsy diagnosis currently um where he was saying that it's basically like a stroke that he had on the left side of his face, so he's been battling that while still trying to play basketball. Currently, the lead update as well is 3-1 in favor of the New York Knicks. As of today, or tonight at the time of recording, the New York Knicks beat the Philadelphia 76ers at home, so the lead is now 3-1 in favor of the Knicks. So this is what Sunday, they have a day off. Monday, tuesday, they have a chance to close out the series. In New York.

Speaker 1:

Steph Curry was named the Kia Clutch Player of the Year. Curry finished with first and points, made field goals and made three-pointers in a clutch situation this season and you would think, with that type of title, that that would be something like it would have propelled his team to be in the playoffs. But it got them to play in tournament. But even with the play in tournament, they lost, so they didn't even get a chance to sniff the playoffs. And then the Los Angeles Lakers emerged victorious, the Los Angeles Lakers defeating the Denver Nuggets with a final score of 119 to 108. Lebron James led the Lakers with the 30 points, while Nikola Jokic was the top score for the Nuggets with 33 points. Currently the series is 3-1 in favor of the Denver Nuggets. So they'll be playing on Monday and they'll be playing back in Denver and the Nuggets are looking to close out the Lakers.

Speaker 1:

Now what I will say is this If they go back to Denver, the Lakers seem to have figured out the formula to beat, finally, the Nuggets. The last playoffs in the Western Conference last year, last season, they got swept. It was looking this way as well, but they finally turned it around. If the Lakers can one win on Monday in Denver, they go back to LA and then, if they can win that, the series is essentially tied 3-3 and then it's all. Even Then you go to a game seven which will be back in Denver by that time. To me, even though the Nuggets are the defending champions, that type of stuff will seep in your psyche and kind of give you some type of doubt, like, can we really beat this team? Now, at that point, if the Lakers pull off the impossible, you know, coming back down 3-0, I would say it's almost like they're the clear favorites because they have dethroned the champs. So then at that point, anybody they go up against, you know, you know, would be on pins and needles. Now the only team that I would say would probably not be too fearful of them meaning the Lakers would be the Minnesota Timberwolves, as they just close out the Phoenix Suns. But if it's the LA Clippers, or if they don't make it and it's actually the Dallas Mavericks, then at that point they're going to have their hands full with the Lakers if they get past the Denver Nuggets by going to seven game series.

Speaker 1:

Now on to the NFL. Here are some of the top picks in case you missed it, which I doubt of the NFL Draft of 2024. Chicago Bears selected Kayla Williams, quarterback from USC. Washington Commanders chose Jaden Daniels, quarterback from LSU. New England Patriots picked Drake May, quarterback from UNC. Arizona Cardinals went with wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr from Ohio State. Los Angeles Chargers selected Joe Holt, offensive tackle from Notre Dame. New York Giants picked Malik Nabors, wide receiver from LSU. Tennessee Titans chose JC Latham, an offensive tackle from Alabama.

Speaker 1:

This one here is a little bit controversial and I'll get into why. Atlanta Falcons selected Michael Pinu I'm probably butchering his last name Jr, a quarterback from Washington. The reason why this is controversial is because Atlanta Falcons just got Kirk Cousins and paid him a boatload of money from Minnesota to come over to be their franchise quarterback. So they said that they did not consult with Kirk Cousins at the time of drafting Michael. And I mean honestly they're. You know the owner, gm don't have to, especially the owner, because he can just be like, hey, I own this team, I'll do what I want.

Speaker 1:

Now I see it two ways, kirk feeling some kind of way because it's like dang, why did you guys get another quarterback when you guys brought me in and didn't tell me you're getting another quarterback, like you've been knowing this behind the scenes all along while you got before you brought me here? Now, then the flip side is for the organization is this Well, you get injured. What is our insurance policy? What's our return? Well, we need another backup. All sports essentially have a backup, whether it's the MLB, nhl, nba, nfl, and if Kirk goes down, you know they need somebody to step in and fill the shoes until you get back. So it makes perfect sense on why they did that Now again, not consulting him. They really don't have to. But I can understand from Kirk's perspective. You know a heads up would have been nice.

Speaker 1:

Chicago Bears, with their second selection in the first round, took Rome Undunzee, a wide receiver from Washington, and then Minnesota Vikings secured JJ McCarthy, a quarterback from Michigan who just won a national championship in college. Now on to the NHL Iconic broadcaster Danny Cole, who's known for his legendary voice during NHL games, passed away at the age of 90. His contributions to the sport will be remembered will be remembered. Carolina Hurricanes forward Warren Fogel is not expected to return during the first round against the New York Islanders, while defensive man Brett Pace returns remains hopeful. Now the odds For the 2024 NHL draft lottery goes as San Jose Sharks with 18.5%. Chicago Blackhawks with 13.5%. Anaheim Ducks with 11.5%. Columbia Blue Jackets with a percentage of 9.5%. Montreal Canadiens we're looking at 8.5%. Utah is a new, up-and-coming NHL team, but they don't have a name yet. They're still trying to figure out what the name is for the team will be. So right now, utah is sitting at 7.5. For odds to win the lottery, we're looking at 6.5%. Seattle Kraken we're looking at 6%. Calgary Flames we're looking at 5%. And then New Jersey Devils we're looking at 3.5%. So that closes out sports.

Speaker 1:

Here's television. Here are some popular television shows in 2024. Baby Reindeer, a limited series that offers an emotional complexity and excellent performances. Shogun, again making its rounds here on the show, an epic adaptation that visually stands out and is enriched in cultural similitude. X-men 97, a new season of the beloved animated series, staying true to its predecessor while charting a path forward. The franchise X-Men 97 is getting ready to come to a close. In the season it's got about three more episodes, but so far each and every episode has had you on the edge of your seat, and especially with the death of Gambit yeah, one of the OG X-Men.

Speaker 1:

Going back to the original animated series was just something no one foresaw, but you know, hey, it is what it is. Now here's newly released television shows. We've got Parrish Great. Parrish, a good man with a troubled past, has given up his life of crime to be a family man. However, when his son is violently murdered, old habits return, sending Parrish on a relentless quest with moral intentions and dangerous consequences. Set in New Orleans, the show follows Gracian Gray Parrish, a Parrish family man and luxury car service owner with a dark past. Thank you, good night.

Speaker 1:

The Bon Jovi story. After 40 years of music, john Bon Jovi is still living on a prayer. Original four-part, all-access documentary series chronicles four decades of unreleased demos, personal videos and never-before-seen stories of the iconic rock band Bon Jovi the Veil. The series revolves around a potentially deadly game of truth and deception as two women travel across different cities. One of them harbors a secret that the other is determined to expose. The stakes are high and thousands of lives hang in the balance. Recent and Manhattan, it delves into the dark side of New York underworld as detectives of the elite squad Special Victims Union investigate and prosecute various sexually or any crimes, including rape, child sexual abuse, human trafficking and domestic violence.

Speaker 1:

The main standouts of that show are Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, and then Finn, who's portrayed by Ice-T. The show's so popular it had a spinoff for one of the characters, elliot Stabler, which is called Law Order Organized Crime, which generally deals with mob ties and things of that nature. So they both air on Thursdays. You usually have SPU first and then Organized Crime second, but great show to watch. If you can't catch them currently, try to go back and watch the old episodes. You'll see great character development by Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson.

Speaker 1:

Bar Rescue Now. This one's unique because this is a reality TV show dealing with bars that need rescuing, exactly like House Tidal. So you have John Taffer, who offers his professional expertise on renovations and equipment to desperately failing bars and efforts to save them from closing. The show delves into every facet of running a bar, from creating a profitable drink slash food menu to crowd management, music selection and managing disgruntled employees. Yeah, if you're failing, the guy you need to see is John Taffer, but it comes at a price, because he's definitely going to get in your grill. He won't tell you about yourself how you're running your job or your business to the ground and personally about yourself, but usually it's the kick in the butt that most of these bar owners need. That usually helps them turn around, get them out of the slump to make them be profitable again.

Speaker 1:

And then, lastly, here we have Greenleaf. The show follows the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family, the family's mansion compound and their sprawling Memphis megachurch with predominantly African-American members. The lead characters are Bishop James Greenleaf, portrayed by Keith David, and Lady May Greenleaf, portrayed by Lynn Whitfield, and their estranged daughter Grace Greenleaf, by Merle Dandridge. True story I actually saw her at a USC game last year in Southern Cal, los Angeles and Los Angeles, california. I'm just rambling here, sorry, but yeah, I actually saw her at the game, so I assume she was just there to check the game out, or she's an alum of USC. She also starred in the first season of the Last of Us. So if you are familiar with Meryl Dandridge from Greenleaf or from the Last of Us, then you'll know who I'm talking about. Grace returns home after 20 years following the mysterious death of her sister, faith. While the family cares and loves for each other's deep down secrets, lies, adultery, sibling rivalry and other issues threaten to tear them apart. The series does into scandalous secrets and complexities of a family dynamic within the context of their church community. So again, those are your television shows with great replay value.

Speaker 1:

And then, to close it out here we've got video games. So here are some recent happenings in the video game world. There's a rumor circulating that a new Game of Thrones, mmorpg, or known as Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, might be in development. Given the massive success of the HBO series, fans are excited about the possibility of exploring Westeros in an interactive online world. Then we have some games here that just came out here recently Stellar Blade, an action-adventure game for the PS5, released on April 26.

Speaker 1:

Top Spin 2K25, a sports game available on PC, ps5, ps4, xbox Series X, xbox One, released on April 26th. Top Spin essentially is tennis and for all the OGs out there. They're familiar with Top Spin, so they're glad to have that back. Familiar with Top Spin, so they're glad to have that back. Tales of Kinserah Zoo, an action adventure game available on the PC, ps5, xbox Series X, s and Nintendo Switch, released on April 23rd. And then, lastly, teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade, the Wrath of the Mutants, a beat-em-up game available for PC, ps5, ps4, xbox Series X, s, nintendo Switch, also released on April 23rd. All right, so that rounds up and closes out the video game section. So that's the end of the show.

Speaker 1:

I know, I know, I know, I know You're hoping for more or wanting more, but yes, that's the end of the show here, episode 19,. As I say, consistent, consecutive. Again, I can't do this show without the good listeners, the good folks, the dedicated, loyal listeners here that tune in every week to hear me ramble and blabble on about the current happenings of film, music, sports, television and gaming, to keep you up to date, put you up on game of some things that you may or may not have known.
