comment"},{"startTime":155.916,"endTime":158.541,"body":"saying, “you're kind of like a expectations"},{"startTime":252.583,"endTime":256.0,"body":"and guidelines and get out of people's way"},{"startTime":256.0,"endTime":258.166,"body":"to allow them to do their more."},{"startTime":284.916,"endTime":287.416,"body":"And so it's being aware of that."},{"startTime":287.416,"endTime":291.375,"body":"And I think it dovetails nicely into this conversation of"},{"startTime":291.375,"endTime":294.666,"body":"presence, of influence,"},{"startTime":294.666,"endTime":297.416,"body":"that a leader has as we build into that unit"},{"startTime":307.583,"endTime":310.75,"body":"and she was struggling with her head of marketing."},{"startTime":311.375,"endTime":315.666,"body":"And she been wanting some other consulting firms"},{"startTime":315.666,"endTime":318.291,"body":"to come in and give them lots of ideas,"},{"startTime":318.291,"endTime":322.25,"body":"and she hasn't really been coordinating with the head of marketing about this."},{"startTime":323.0,"endTime":327.083,"body":"And understandably, the head of marketing is kind of questioning"},{"startTime":327.083,"endTime":329.0,"body":"how much confidence she has in him."},{"startTime":329.583,"endTime":332.625,"body":"And in saying, hey, you're going out for all of this other ideas."},{"startTime":332.625,"endTime":337.625,"body":"You aren't including me necessarily getting my input in a way that's conducive for him."},{"startTime":338.0,"endTime":341.416,"body":"And this is actually one of the topics we then talked about,"},{"startTime":341.416,"endTime":346.041,"body":"which was, what can you do as a business unit leader"},{"startTime":346.041,"endTime":349.0,"body":"to be able to convey a sense of confidence"},{"startTime":349.0,"endTime":351.75,"body":"in your team, in your marketing leader?"},{"startTime":352.25,"endTime":354.958,"body":"In other words, how do you get out of the way?"},{"startTime":355.291,"endTime":358.666,"body":"How do you establish clear expectations, express confidence,"},{"startTime":358.666,"endTime":361.958,"body":"and then get out of the way and let the marketing leader"},{"startTime":361.958,"endTime":366.416,"body":"do his job, and that might be interacting with consultants,"},{"startTime":366.416,"endTime":372.0,"body":"but in a way that he feels good because he's the guy you got to go to first."},{"startTime":372.5,"endTime":376.333,"body":"So anyway, it's this interesting way how it can show up,"},{"startTime":376.333,"endTime":380.208,"body":"but so much of leadership is setting those clear expectations"},{"startTime":380.208,"endTime":382.583,"body":"and get out of the way and not terms evolved"},{"startTime":449.916,"endTime":455.625,"body":"over the last many years, because so much of that as we think 10 plus years ago,"},{"startTime":455.625,"endTime":459.083,"body":"it was so focused on, really just how you look."},{"startTime":459.791,"endTime":461.0,"body":"How you appear, like"},{"startTime":461.0,"endTime":463.5,"body":"do you look the part of a leader?"},{"startTime":464.083,"endTime":466.208,"body":"Do you look the part of an executive?"},{"startTime":466.583,"endTime":468.416,"body":"Are you dressing a certain way?"},{"startTime":468.416,"endTime":470.833,"body":"Are you modeling that a certain way?"},{"startTime":471.291,"endTime":474.5,"body":"And like that's really in many ways what it within perspectives,"},{"startTime":494.0,"endTime":496.833,"body":"to allow for much more diversity among that."},{"startTime":497.291,"endTime":499.791,"body":"And so it's broadened this concept"},{"startTime":499.791,"endTime":504.0,"body":"into much more than just, oh, do I look like an executive?"},{"startTime":504.333,"endTime":506.458,"body":"Because there's kind of this belong,"},{"startTime":562.25,"endTime":565.041,"body":"if we can connect, if we like them, if they like us."},{"startTime":565.375,"endTime":569.333,"body":"All of these things that yes, are an important part of human nature that"},{"startTime":569.333,"endTime":571.208,"body":"can run amok at times,"},{"startTime":571.208,"endTime":574.166,"body":"and we have to watch and guard ourselves against it."},{"startTime":574.666,"endTime":579.041,"body":"But the reality is it's only a small part"},{"startTime":579.041,"endTime":581.333,"body":"of what executive presence really is,"},{"startTime":581.333,"endTime":584.875,"body":"this X factor, this charisma,"},{"startTime":584.875,"endTime":589.0,"body":"this confidence level that others can look,"},{"startTime":589.0,"endTime":591.541,"body":"listen, hear, engage"},{"startTime":591.541,"endTime":595.75,"body":"with the person and say, yes, that person is a leader."},{"startTime":596.25,"endTime":596.708,"body":"—Yeah."},{"startTime":597.083,"endTime":599.25,"body":"And that word you just used there,"},{"startTime":599.25,"endTime":600.791,"body":"charisma,"},{"startTime":600.791,"endTime":605.458,"body":"I think at times can be used as a synonym for executive presence."},{"startTime":606.125,"endTime":610.791,"body":"Mistakenly so, because there is so much more."},{"startTime":611.166,"endTime":614.875,"body":"And it's not just that one, you know, charismatic,"},{"startTime":614.875,"endTime":619.458,"body":"extroverted way of leading that so many leaders throughout,"},{"startTime":619.458,"endTime":622.416,"body":"you know, whether it's media or history"},{"startTime":622.416,"endTime":624.541,"body":"have been put on a pedestal of"},{"startTime":624.541,"endTime":626.666,"body":"they're a great leader because they can do this."},{"startTime":628.291,"endTime":631.0,"body":"Sure, if you have that skill, leverage it,"},{"startTime":631.0,"endTime":633.708,"body":"but not everybody has to be able to do framework"},{"startTime":652.0,"endTime":654.916,"body":"to really help explain that a little bit more"},{"startTime":654.916,"endTime":657.166,"body":"in a more modern
