SHF Podcast, Episode 14- Transformation and Change: How to hold onto your hat through the whirlwind of change

Katherine Finley, Miriah Feehery Season 1 Episode 14

We're here in November of 2024,  in Asheville, North Carolina, in The United States of America, and there is a lot of change happening in the world right now in our personal lives, in our inner worlds, in our community, in the country, and it's time to just take a little bit of an inventory and explore the phenomenon, the force of nature that is transformation and change.

Welcome to the Sovereign Heart Frequency Podcast. I'm Katherine Finley with Sovereign Heart Coaching, and I'm here with my co host Mariah Fieri of Whole Being Counseling. We recognize that we're living through an intense time on our planet. There seems to be more polarization and division and less connected communication than ever before. We are here to change that. We intention to hold conversations in a container of love and authenticity. We believe that when humans come together from a heart centered place, we can not only understand one another, but we can get creative together, solving problems we couldn't solve alone. It's time to reimagine and rebirth a new world in which everyone's authentic voice is included in the harmonic orchestra of human voices to create a world that works for all of us. Thank you for being part of this conversation. We're excited to have you. Hey everybody, welcome back to Sovereign Heart Frequency Podcast. I'm your host, Miriah Feehery, here with my co host, Katherine Finley, and today we're going to talk about transformation and change. So, Catherine, what are you noticing inside of you, around you, in the collective, on any of the layers that I just named that are just really changing a lot right now? Mm hmm. Yeah, you know, we've talked about this, Miriah, but and you can speak to this way better than I can, but How the astrology is really pointing to big transformation for humanity over the next few years, and that it's going to be one thing after another, after another. So what comes up the most for me as you speak is how do we hold ourselves in fast paced, big change. and we certainly got a taste of this. unpredictable shift with Hurricane Helene hitting our area and how you know, no one here that I know of was expecting it. There were people that were more prepared in certain ways than other people, but it was certainly a shock to all of us. And and then we had to navigate through that, that there are changes that we cannot necessarily prepare for in the external world. But I think we can support our nervous systems when we know change is inevitable and change is always inevitable. But something about this process we're going through right now is humanity. There's going to be a lot of it in a big way. And so, you know, how do we really support our nervous systems through all of that? I think something we learned from Helene was community is a huge piece of supporting the nervous system. How do we come together as community and help one another win? Things are really challenging. There is actually, I think, a study during, done after, I guess, or Hurricane Katrina, and folks that were able, because of their situation, to get out and start helping right away, whether it was restoring their own homes or helping their neighbors, they were less likely to develop. PTSD and folks that were you know, maybe in one of those big shelters and they were kind of immobilized and weren't able to do much to help themselves in their homes or others were more likely to develop you know, more longer lasting trauma symptoms. And so, and, you know, engaging with our bodies and hearts in our community, I think is one thing I've really. Been sitting with the power of that after this big storm. Yeah. Yeah. Powerlessness and helplessness and feeling trapped are definitely prerequisites for PTSD and also just lesser challenges like depression and, and inner conflict and whatnot. And. I've personally been really seeing a lot of, of that in myself and just how good it feels to, to do what I can to support the community, but also to just know that taking care of my children is, is a community service and to really value staying home and, and tending. in the days that that there, there was less mobility available for myself. But yeah, the, when my husband was out after the hurricane running around doing all the mobilizing with his chainsaw and his diesel truck and getting supplies and helping people, I did kind of feel like the the shock and the jarring was settling into my system in a way that, that I couldn't, tolerate, I really needed to get out of my house and do something. It didn't even matter really that much what it was. It was just that feeling trapped even though I could tell myself I'm taking care of my children, I'm taking care of my husband who's taking care of the community, like all of that rationally felt okay, but my animal body was like, move, move, do something, go get help or, or help somebody or whatever. And And so sitting with that was, was really difficult and it actually really took a toll on my personal life. I, I just wasn't able to have the capacity for for showing up with patience and tolerance for my own needs, my family's needs, my relationship needs, until I was able to really mobilize. So, and, and really, Mobilization doesn't have to be these huge acts of, you know, delivering ten pallets of water to someone stranded without running water, like it, it can be very small and I participated in a anthroposophic you know this is the This is a place of harmony. Crisis team who came from all over the world to participate in a healing seminar for Asheville thanks to Nikki Shoneman and the Asheville Waldorf School for coordinating their, their time here in Asheville and just witnessing what these people do who travel all over the world to help victims of, devastation, whether it's natural disasters or war. It was, it was so humbling and encouraging to see how such simple acts can really help the human body. To process these really big uncomfortable things like feeling trapped and powerless and helpless and, and, and shocked and hurt. And for example, one of the things they had the, the small children do was just roll a ball of wool in their hands. And that act of massaging the palm, which you could have done with your hand, but to get the children to engage in a way that that was fun for them, and then they created a little, a little ball for themselves that they were then proud of. But, but beyond that, the, just the physical act of massaging that part of the body was actually really, really fun. Resources and nourishing on a nervous system level, and they would have these little songs where they made the hand into an apple tree and then would massage the place in their in between the forefinger and the thumb as part of the story where you're I forget exactly how it fit into the song, but it was represented as some, some motion in the song. And that place specifically is also like a really big trauma release point. And, and even just stomping their feet on the ground, this other part of the song, then that. that does a very similar thing of just grounding and moving energy. So it was really refreshing to know that you don't have to do big, crazy things to help yourself through hard times. It can be really subtle, really small, simple things. So it's important to remember that because these really big changes that are going on in our community, but also on the collective, they're not stopping anytime soon. As Catherine mentioned, the astrology for the next couple of years is pretty big. And whether or not you believe in astrology, it will affect you. The movement of the outer planets you know, Jupiter and beyond, including Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto are, Planets that affect the collective. They do have a personal relationship to us, but the majority of the influence we see is on the collective. And what's happening with the more slower moving of those planets, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, and Uranus, is that they are all changing signs and changing signs. In the next year or two. And this is not something that happens very often where they all change signs in the same little time frame. And what that means is that they're all in the last degree of the sign that they're in. They're about to enter the first degree of a new sign. And being in the last degree of a sign is kind of like being in the caricature of that sign. The, so much big energy, enough is enough of that sign. And so we're all kind of feeling that right now. Things are really big and sort of beyond belief in a lot of ways. I mean, this hurricane that, that Catherine and I are referencing was bigger than anyone ever could conceive in their wildest imaginations to hit this little mountain community. Because Usually hurricanes don't reach the mountains in the full force. They usually lose a lot of energy before they get to us, and we get, like, some strong winds and maybe a little flooding. Not like, you know, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, you know, coastal, southeast level hurricanes. and so in our community, we're kind of already feeling some of these big, huge cataclysmic changes. And I know that on a global level, global governments and whatnot are, you can kind of hear the beating of the drums. Things are, are changing as we speak, but also you can see it big changes coming too. And so, one of the most significant of these planetary shifts happening is Pluto entering Aquarius for the first time in about 240 years. So it's leaving the, the latest degree of Capricorn. So the 29th degree of Capricorn is really the most overblown, shadowy version of Capricorn, which would be hierarchical power over structures, good old boys, systems and abuses of power. And so we've all been swimming in that for a while now and the shift into the first degree of Aquarius, where it will be for the next about 24 years, is a focus on what is in the, best interest of the greater good. What is in the highest of the collective. And so that's a pretty big shift of focus. for us and I'm sure a lot of people can imagine that that's a really positive shift. And, again, Aquarius has its own shadow side. So, you know, in about 20 years when Pluto gets to the end of that sign, we're probably going to be ready for it to shift again and be like, wow, enough of Aquarius. This, it also rules technology and technological revolution and, and we all know that AI is. is coming up in its heyday, and that is going to look however we collectively allow it to look, and I know a lot of people are pretty scared about what that can look like. And the fear can range from just a lot of people losing jobs, some predictions have been made that, you know, Most jobs might even be replaced by AI in the next 10 years or 20 years. And, and it could also look like it looks in all of the movies about AI and robotics, which is robots taking over weapons systems and killing all the humans or in some form or another. So. That's certainly in our collective imagination as well, for good reason, and yet there are so many more options of how it can look if people choose an ethical approach and put technology only in the surface of the best interest of humanity, which, because we're in the age of Aquarius, is absolutely on the table, and we do have control over it, and our voices are powerful and our, and our intentions are powerful. I think that's a really important thing to remember. And will be emphasized in this age of Aquarius, too, of rather than leaving the power to our leaders you know, we just had a huge election here in the United States, obviously, and, whether you like Trump or not rather than expecting him to To be some sort of savior or some sort of evil, taking the power back into our hands as the people and remembering that our government is meant to be in service of the people. And so we get to decide how AI is shaped. And so how can we remember that and then do what we need to do to make sure, you know, the elected leaders do handle it ethically because the people that don't, we're not going to give them authority, right? And that's a big part of what this, this time is about, rather than putting someone on a pedestal and hoping that they save us. Right. That time is over, and the time of grassroots and community is, upon us. And a great example of that, I think, is the community of Barnardsville, North Carolina, just adjacent to Asheville. And it's kind of the, the outskirts of the suburban sprawl of Asheville. It's still very much more rural than suburban. And the edges of the community, But up into the National Forest and so the people that live in the Barnardsville community are people who really value a more rural farm based approach to life or people who maybe grew up in cities and really value nature and public lands. And I've been a part of that community. I don't live there currently, but have been a part of that community for a while now and have seen them really show up in times where their collectively shared value of beautiful, pristine, well, not quite pristine, but beautiful national forest has been threatened by loggers. And there will be Hundreds of people in City Hall where normally there's maybe five or ten at these public hearings to protest opening it up to any kind of resource taking from those lands and, have been successful in that. And so when I think about you know, how tragic it is, what happened to that community after the hurricane, just thinking about it. So much property destroyed and lives and livestock lost. The, hope that this community can be stronger through adversity is just so alive in me and, and seeing how I mentioned in a previous podcast, how before any, Service crew people could even enter the area to try and, and bring resources from the greater community or the state or federal government. The community in Barnardsville had already set up their own hub with mutual aid and services for people who were out of power and out of water and out of food and all those things. So. I just see that community as a really shining example of what the age of Aquarius is. And and that we all, when we can really recognize that our values really are quite the same, right? We all want clean air, clean water non toxic food. We want health and safety for our children and ourselves, and, the right to exist in a peaceful way that really unites us, regardless of who we voted for in the election, right? And, I see that in the Barnesville community. There are very wildly different political beliefs. There's no way any kind of unity happening in that community. I mean, there's unity within different camps, obviously, but. But that had nothing to do with how resources were dispersed and how support was offered to one another. Yeah. I think that community is also a really good example of resiliency in the face of change because there is such a strong network. So whatever the next changes, like they're going to be able to step up to it with more resiliency than other communities where. People don't know each other or aren't organized in any sort of way. You know, another lens that I'm finding really helpful as we go into this time of so much change is through the gene keys and Richard Rudd, who. Channeled? Did he channel the Gene Keys? Yeah, downloaded. Downloaded the Gene Keys? Talks about this time through the lens of the Gene, the 55th Gene Key, which is this shift that humanity is going to going through from victimhood to freedom. And he uses the metaphor of the dragonfly. To talk about how it's not just that we're growing and maturing in some way as humanity, we are actually completely transforming and part of that. Which is why it's called the gene keys. Part of the shift is this genetic shift in our being that's going to going to support allow for this huge transformation. And when you think about a dragonfly, it goes from a water nymph. Like a creature that lives underwater to a creature that flies. And it's such a transformation and that's what we're heading into. And so it helps my nervous system a lot to hold the unknown in that frame that I can. Because, of course, any big transformation, there's going to be parts of it that We might want to brace against, or we might feel it's not good. But for myself, when I can hold it in the greater vision of where transforming into. humans that really know freedom Richard Rudd talks about learning from ecstasy and bliss instead of learning, learning from suffering, which is the time that we've been in for so many hundreds of years. And yes, please. Yeah. And who knows, right. You know, we don't have a crystal ball and there's something in my bones that it, story rings true to me and can help me then stay regulated when I, when I think about what that might mean to shift that, maybe our financial systems crashing, government's certainly shifting, you know, all of these things that will need to collapse or end or really transform. And that's going to be uncomfortable at times, but if we can see where it's taking us. then I think that brings real resilience in and of itself. Definitely. I mean, so much of the work that you and I do with our clients is helping them see where they would rather be, and to be able to visualize the life that you want instead of just stay only focused in the pain and suffering. Obviously part of healing is first acknowledging that you are in pain and suffering. If you don't already acknowledge that consciously, but then from there to believe in, something else to be true, that belief is so powerful. And and what Steiner says that we've quoted previously about these times that we're in that really require us to, have complete faith that, that we will be taken care of by the spiritual world and maybe not in our lifetimes, you know, but to still hold faith that everything that's happening is happening for us. An essential part of the transformation. You know, if you're living in a condemned dilapidated building, you have to tear it down before you can build something wholesome and safe and secure. And that unfortunately means you. might be out of a home for a little while, or you might have to stay in someone else's home that's not as comfortable for you, or rent a hotel room or something, and, and that change might be uncomfortable, but ultimately to hold that faith that there is reason for the destruction, and, and to allow the changes and the shifts that are happening to flow through And to trust that a new horizon, a new beginning, a new dawn, a new day is on its way, and, and that you have some say in that, within reason, obviously, but that when things are kind of crumbling into their basic elements, that, you know, it's actually much easier to create something new with the basic building blocks and to be able to vision what you want to create out of these basic elements is really important. And so I'm trying to do a daily practice of gratitude and really just focusing on what it is that, that, helps me feel grateful,, what uplifts me, what inspires me, what makes me feel warm. Even the hard lessons, what, I'm learning through the struggle, the ability to, to cry and release are things that I'm sometimes grateful for, right? It's not all like warm and fuzzy, but that practice is allowing me to really focus on what I want to bring forward and, and allows me to. Spend less time focusing on the things I really want to have changed in my life. But maybe, me over focusing on it is keeping it the same. And so obviously it's important to know what needs to change, but it's even more important to know what it is that you want and you desire and what will help you and your community thrive and to really make a concerted effort to. To reach for those things, to plant those seeds and water them and tend them. So maybe what we'll close with today is, you know, as this year rounds out and as we head into next year if, and when things pop up into your world, that brings up fear. Which is quite possible. Maybe think about it now when you're not in a place of fear of how you want to hold yourself through that. Who do you want to be around? Maybe people who have more resilient nervous systems and are resourced. How do you want to, you know, be with this, whatever's going on that with your family system? Thinking about now how you want to hold yourself through a change, and if fear comes with that change, before it happens, so that you have a bit of an anchor and a plan for tending to your own nervous system, so that it builds resiliency. You know. One of my favorite trauma therapists, David Brasselli, that created the trauma release exercises. He talks a lot about post traumatic growth and that as humans, our bodies and our nervous systems are built to go through traumatic events. We are made for this. It's really how we then tend to ourselves after that. It's that. Is part of the evolution of our species that allows us to grow rather than be stuck and traumatized. And so it's not about trying to avoid a life of challenge. It's really building the resiliency in yourself, in your family system, in your communities. Because this is leading to a better world. So how can you in your own. You know, small system use the challenges ahead and the great change ahead to Build more resiliency, bring in more joy, bring in more connection, because that's actually all available during this time. I love that, Katherine, because it's so easy just to stay in the worry and the anxiety of what could go wrong, and all these cataclysmic changes that you and I are referencing, just to have anxiety about it. And That's, that's a natural stage of orienting to, a potential threat or an actual threat. But then to shift out of that consciously by asking yourself, well, what could I do? How could I be prepared in a way that helps me feel like I can manage? So you can deal with the fear that you're feeling now and the anxiety about what may come, but also Maybe, hopefully, deal with the fear then, so you are one step more empowered and prepared for what's to come. And even if just that empowerment is like, I'm gonna breathe more, or I'm gonna take a little more time for myself, even though I know there's gonna be a lot asked of me, I'm gonna make sure that I, Just take an hour a day to, to take care of myself instead of just mobilizing and going, even if it's something simple like that, just to be prepared. And, knowing that ahead of time, I think really does shift it into what I do have control over. So you don't feel so trapped and powerless and helpless. And even if what you have control over is small, that it's still really makes a huge difference in how. How resiliency is built, like you said. Well, thank you everyone so much for being a part of this conversation with us. We are, in many ways excited for, there's I like to believe that on some level we all chose to come here at this time for this huge shift in humanity and we're all in it together and we're glad to be on this journey with you. So thanks for being here. Music
