Being a Leader as an Individual Contributor with Phoenix Jay of dbt Labs
In this episode, I’m joined by Phoenix Jay, Manager, Digital Community at dbt Labs, to learn more about her career journey in the data industry. Phoenix shares about starting her career in finance and how she transitioned into data roles, self-teaching SQL and dbt, and then discovering the world of analytics engineering!
Most recently, Phoenix has moved into a new role at dbt Labs, where she will be helping manage the digital community–a perfect crossover between her love of data and community advocacy. We also spend some time talking about how you can be a leader, even if you’re still in an IC role, and the importance of both providing and receiving coaching and mentoring to help you grow new skills and navigate career growth.
