Wrestle Talk seasons 8 up now! Have a listen and lets get slammed together!
Hello and welcome to Wrestle Talk with Arabid Beaver. I am your host, the elusive Arabi Beaver, and we have a lot of things to talk about on WrestleTalk today. There's a lot of things that have been happening in the world of wrestling, uh, including some major changes for AEW. AEW is actually looking to add the national championship back, the national heavyweight championship back into their uh grouping of titles that they've got currently. But I'm gonna tell you, I think it's a bad move on them because the National Wrestling Alliance currently has the National Heavyweight Championship, and they've had it for years and years, and it's not been in the prominent forelight, but uh they've had such champions as the Thrill Billy Silas Mason carrying it here recently. And I'm gonna tell you it's it's not gonna be a good look unless AEW is planning on cross-promoting with the National Wrestling Alliance and becoming prominent by cross-promoting with the National Wrestling Alliance. I don't see that it's gonna make that big of a deal or that big of a difference uh for the anybody out there really watching their product on TBS. I think that Tony Khan thinks because he's got the national spotlight that he can just do whatever the hell he wants to do and get away with it uh a hundred percent. And I don't know if that's really the truth. Uh honestly, if he's gonna be able to get away with it, because I think that he might come up with some legal problems by doing this with the National Wrestling Alliance, unless he decides to cross-promote with them and use the talent of the National Wrestling Alliance on AEW television and on TBS uh to kind of help grow both brands and to make both brands more prominent and prel uh relevant in these times, these trying times. On WWE News, we have all sew where CM Punk won the heavyweight championship, uh giving him him new title reign, breathing new life back into his title run, and also giving him the ability not only to be the man, but to beat the man if he can go through the tournament with John Cena, giving John Cena the opportunity one more time to be a champion, uh, which is what I think is gonna happen with his little tournament. Now, I may be completely wrong here, I may be completely out of base, but I honestly believe it's gonna end up being CM Punk John Cena for the retirement match that we've all been waiting for. Now, I could be wrong, it could be Randy Orton, it could be Jay Uso, it could be a number of people uh that that has been called upon through the years to face John Cena, but I just don't see it happening any other way at this point, especially for the title. With the way things happened with Punk last time, I think it would be a great redemption story on his part to get that chance, that opportunity to send off a legend inside the business, such as John Cena. And I do think that that's gonna happen coming up at John Cena's retirement party. Now, there's a lot of competitors who are gonna be going for John Cena in that match. Uh, some who include several past rivals such as Cody Rhodes, The Rock, Randy Orton, uh, Roman Reigns, Seamus the Miz, Solo Sakoa, and Rusev. Braun Breaker is uh which are less less known opponents like Braun Breaker, uh, you know, Dominic Mysterio, Gunther, LA Knight, Drew McIntyre, Pinta, uh, Carmelo Hayes, Jacob Fatou, uh, and Sami Zayn are just a few that could be some of the less familiar that are inside this tournament that might have the option and ability to be there for the retirement match, but I've already called it. I already think it's gonna be CM Punk. I really believe it's gonna be CM Punk versus John Cena. Uh, there's some unconfirmed rumored opponents such as Edge, Rick Flair, AJ Siles, Logan Paul, Seth Rollins. Uh, you know, there's so many people that could be involved in this thing. But like I said, I really think that they're gonna end it with the CM Punk deal. I really believe that CM Punk is gonna be the option for him, especially to give him the uh ability to win the championship one more time and to go out on the high note of retiring with the title if he wants to do that, or taking a loss to CM Punk and putting him in the stratosphere once again at the pinnacle, the top of professional wrestling where he belongs to begin with. In other wrestling news, former Ring of Honor world television champion Brian Cage has been on the sidelines for nearly eight months after completing completely tearing his quad tendon at the OWA event uh weeks into his rehabilitation for his injury. Uh, Cage then took the opportunity to address a lingering right knee issue, which led to the knee replacement surgery. Unfortunately, Cage still felt something was off about his right knee. And as a result, Cage has revealed uh the need for another procedure to be taking place on his right knee. Uh we know that there's an implant in his knee. He talked to uh Wrestling Incorporated about that. I mean, he summarized it pretty pretty heavily. He summarized it very well on their website. You can catch that at wrestlinginc.com for the entire story. But according to Cage, he was backstage at last month's AEW Wrestle Dream event with the intention of being medically cleared to return uh at AEW full gear on November 22nd. Instead, the machine will now go under another surgery next week following discovery of an underlining issue in his right knee. Regarding the timeline for his in-ring resurgence afterwards, Cage noticed noted that it is currently up in the air. So uh bad news for none other than Brian Cage. We we definitely wish you well. We hope that you come back and that you'll be out here pretty soon and that you recover well, and that we'll get to see you on TV pretty soon, and hopefully you'll be back at the pinnacle, the top of professional wrestling. Uh very, very soon, Brian Cage. We wish you well right here on WrestleTalk with Rabbit Beaver. Speaking of people going away, we haven't talked about it, but MJF has not been seen since September 20th on All Out, AEW's All Out, uh, when he was in that tables and tax match against Mark Briscoe. Now, we know the Salt of the Earth himself said that he was going to go away to improve himself and come back renewed and focused as he wants to be the man to dethrone current AEW world champion Hangman Page. However, the real reason why he has been away from wrestling is that he is currently shooting another movie. And according to a recent report, is likely it won't be his last. Now, to say the least, we know that he is out there filming, uh, and we hope that he comes back to the ring pretty soon. We miss him inside the ring. We want you to take on Hangman Page, we want you to be able to be the champion. We know you can be MJF, and I know it doesn't really mean much to hear it from somebody like myself here at WrestleTalk with a rabbit beaver, but you are the salt of the earth. You are none other than MJ freaking F. Now, for those of you that listen to Busted Open and Busted Open After Dark, we actually got a very interesting take come from none other than Bully Ray this past week. And my God, I think he's on to something. I think he's definitely on to something, especially with the dirty details he was giving out about Paul Heyman and the dangerous alliance faction. Now, we have seen it in WCW, we've seen it in ECW and several other promotions along the way, but we have never seen it in WWE. The promotion recently teased next year's WrestleMania in Las Vegas, posting Cody Rhodes with Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, Paul Heyman himself, and Bully Ray asserted that we could lean towards the induction of this stable in WWE. And I almost agree with him. I think that they're really pushing to go that way with the Dangerous Alliance, the new dangerous alliance 2.0 is what I'm gonna call it. But my lord, I think he's onto something here. And I think that he kind of let the kitty cat out of the bag a little bit. He definitely let the rabbit out of the hat, but it's not just gonna be a magic trick for you and me. It's gonna be a magic trick for everybody if it happens, because we know Paul Heyman has the ability to extend careers, lift careers up, tear careers down, and do what he wants with them. I mean, a perfect example of this is Rob Van Dam. I mean, we all know the struggles Rob Van Diem has had in the past, but once he hooked up with Paul Heyman, I'm telling you, his career skyrocketed to a level it had never been before. Same thing with Brock Lesnar, same thing with Roman Reigns. Some of these people just don't realize the genius that is Paul Heyman. And I can't agree more with Bully Ray on the busted open After Dark podcast that he gave, uh, his assessment of what's going to be happening. Now, one of the reasons that we say this is because if you remember the look that was on Cody Rhodes's face, the expression that he gave, it was almost a telltale sign, like he was telling, I guess you could say, like he was offered something he couldn't refuse. And if he refused it, it was gonna be extremely bad for him in the future. But on the flip side, you gotta wonder if it's gonna turn Cody Rhodes extremely hill on the opposite end, too. If that's what they were alluding to at the very end of that little segment that took place there. You decide, you guys be the judge, and you all decide about it. Now let's move on a little bit. I don't know how you guys feel about AJ Styles and Dragon Lee and their first successful defense of those world tag team titles on WWE Raw, but I'm gonna tell you, I think it was a great compilation between two great professional wrestlers who have the utmost respect for one another in and out of that ring. And there's been lots of times where both of these men have just put everything on the line, put their bodies on the line, put their well-being on the line, put other people's well-being on the line just to make sure that they grave a great show. And I can't speak volumes about how I feel about them with those tag team titles, those world tag team titles now. It's just an excellent thing for the WWE altogether. Speaking of good things for the WWE, and this was rumored all day Monday, and it we didn't actually get to see it until it actually happened. A former Hall of Famer himself, Ray Mysterio, officially made his return to WWE Raw on Monday and even got physical in his recovery from his groin injury. Mysterio appeared on the show to confront his son, the Intercontinental and AAA Mega Champion Dominique Mysterio. Dominique went out to the ring to gloat and once again proclaim himself as King of the Luchadors after defeating Rusef and Pinta at Saturday night's main event. He didn't get to gloat for long, however, because his father came out that music setup and put the whole crowd in a frenzy, to say the least. And let me tell you what, Dominic Mysterio was showing Ray disrespect, but Ray said every time he says it, Dominic disrespects their bloodline. He disrespects their own personal bloodline. Ray asked if Dominic thought he was better than the likes of El Santo or Eddie Guerrero. That's a very good point because we all think that Eddie Guerrero is the top the pinnacle for a lot of those people. And El Santo is right there with him. And we're not even mentioning people like the blue dragon or anybody else that has fought the blue demon himself. I mean, we're not mentioning any of those people that have gone before and have made a name for themselves wrestling. Now, what we got to see in the center of that ring was all the animosity, all the pain, all the frustration that was taking place between father and son. And it ensued out there as the words took off, both men giving it back and forth to each other. But then Dominic Mysterio saying that he was the king and that he was better than Rey Mysterio, I think it set a fire under Ray's butt and he did something about it, ensuing that 619 and that big frog splash from the top rope. And I'm gonna tell you what, guys, this is gonna be a great rivalry, maybe one of the best in WWE history, especially between father and son, as it may have the effects that are long lasting, such as the late great Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio as well. And if you guys have been missing the MWA action on the Roku Channel 208 on Tuesday night 8 p.m., you can catch all of the power action that you are missing right there from the National Wrestling Alliance. And my God, they had a bunch of great matches uh this past week. There was a high-profile singles match, the heavyweight clash between Carrie Morton and Alex Hammerstone. And I'm not gonna give it away, but I'm gonna say Alex Hammerstone had a hell of a match against Carrie Morton, and my God, what a match it was. You guys need to go back and re-watch that, and you need to look for those episodes and try to find them right there at the National Wrestling Alliance.com if you have not seen. There was a freaking upset in the tag team division as Carson Bartholomew Drake and Aaron Stevens definitely got one over on EC3 and Pretty Boy Smooth. Now I'll give that one to you for free, but I'm gonna tell you guys that match was freaking amazing up until the most controversial thing that happened, of course, with Aaron freaking Stevens as normal. So Aaron Stevens has been inactive inside of in-ring action for months and months, and he makes his return in this tag team match. And my God, it is crazy. Now we all know that Carson Carson Bartholomew Drake, that's right, Carson Drake himself has had problems with Pastor CeeLo, who has scored EC3 and Pretty Boy Smooth to the ring for this spectacular tag team match, but it just wasn't enough. They just couldn't get it done against that unexpected duo to win. And I'm gonna tell you, I think it was really slimy the way things went down. I think it's really safe to say that the feud between these men is far from over, and we're gonna see more of this action in the days to come right there on Roku Channel 208 and the recap channel of 210. For those of you that don't know how to get a hold of it and watch it, just definitely check it out. 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on channel 208 and on demand anytime on channel 210 after 8 p.m. You guys don't want to miss a minute of that action. Alex Taylor is continuing to dominate the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship Division. The man has been on fire. I mean, he faced Rich Swan at the last episode of power that we got to see, and he beat him in stylish fashion to retain that junior heavyweight championship. And my lord, who is next for Alex Taylor? And can anybody defeat this man? The man has been completely on fire, especially since teaming up with Carrie Morton and the thrill Billy Silas Mason. It seems those three men are the brand new free birds of professional wrestling. For those of you that have been keeping up with the National Wrestling Alliance at 77, NWA 77, De Pope returned to address his flock. And I'm gonna tell you, uh, last month, he immediately set himself up in what could be only considered a big pickle after successfully defeating the NWA national champion, Big Strong Mims. He was attacked by Mike Mondo and slayed. And Mondo has has a shot at that national heavyweight championship coming up, but Pope did not come to discuss that. He wanted to mention that due to the attack, he had not been cleared to compete at NWA 77. He said when he came back to the NWA, he only had one mission and one mission only in mind, and that was to claim the NWA World Championship. That's right, he wants that 10 pounds of gold, baby, and it seems like there is nobody in the National Wrestling Alliance that is not shooting to get their shot at that 10 pounds of gold from Tom Latimer. At NWA 77 in the main event, Brian Idol got a little bit closer to receiving that lucky seven, where he can name any championship that he wants inside of the company and trade it in so that he can have a shot for the big time himself. And I'm gonna tell you, Tom, you've got a lot of things that are going wrong right now, especially with the competition that's coming after you. I don't know how you're gonna be able to fight all these boys off and retain that championship in the days to come. Now, a couple weeks ago, we got to see what they called handcuff heat, where Trevor Murdoch took on none other than Eric Smalls in what can be seen and not only seen, but what could be heard as the most intense match of the night for the National Wrestling Alliance. Things got extremely intense in handcuff heat match, pitting the veteran brawler Murdoch against Eric Smalls. The stipulation added a layer of drama as Mike Knox, Murdoch's tag team partner, was literally tied to a rope for the duration of the route, preventing any outside interference. And my God, it gave Eric Smalls the advantage. And we all know what happens when you mess with the Smalls. You get hit in the balls, baby. Now, this was the most valiant effort I think I've ever seen Eric Smalls given. However, we all know how it turned out, if you especially if you watched that episode, and that's gonna be your spoiler on this one for this week as well. But uh man, Trevor Murdoch just came out there and he got the victory. The question remains what is next for Eric Smalls? As this may be showing the chinks in his armor who would want to come against him, what championships would he be willing to fight for? And is he gonna be put in a championship pitcher? You don't know. We just don't know, guys.
