Earth, mother and friends, you cross her heart. Hello, hello, hello and welcome back to Low Yogi Tales and other stuff, podcast. Here we are the darkest of the dark nights and I couldn't let them go unnoted. And so I thought today I would share a story that really is near and dear to my heart, the story of our Lady of Guadalupe. Um. We found each other early on in my yogic wanderings, and we've loved each other the whole time we've known each other, and so I thought as this is the beginning of Don Juan's journey on this day as I read this story, that it felt very appropriate. To share his tale. So here today in the Lola Yogi Tales and other stuff, podcast, tune this way. Let's have some fun together and let's share the story of our Lady of Guadalupe. The Virgin of Guadalupe is our story today. It takes place in Mexico right after the Capitol. Now Mexico City was conquered by Spain. The year is 1531 and Juan Diego, a poor merchant, is walking from his small home in the community, in the country into Mexico City to go to church and run some household errands. Juan Diego's walk was a long one and he, he had to pass by this large hill on his way. He had made this walk many times before, but today was different. As he passed by the mound, he heard the most wonderful singing all around him, as if all of the birds in the area had gathered in one place to sing their sweet, beautiful songs. Juan Diego thought, this is such an amazing thing. Maybe I should not be here. I am only a poor man and do not deserve to be in the presence of such a lovely miracle. As soon as he thought this, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen came into his sight. He had been, she had been just behind a rock formation waiting for him to pass by. She was radiant with energy and light flowing out of her. Every pore of her being the stone she stood on, or normal rock, had become green like an emerald lit by a great light. The rock radiated beneath her, her robes in their folds of deep blue held the secrets of the universe. Stars and galaxies were moving within them. Her smile was deeply healing and warmed him just to look upon it. She spoke to Juan Diego saying, I have chosen you for a task of utmost importance. I wish for you to go to the Archbishop in Mexico City and tell him that I the great mother have decreed that there will be a church built in, my honor, in the valley below this mound. Go to the Archbishop and tell him my wishes to have a church built on this ground so that I may have a place in this world to give his followers my love and healing powers. Then come back to me and let me know his response. Juan Diego shocked by this demand. Had a hard time finding words when he could finally speak. He said, I will go as you wish and speak to the archbishop, but I am a small man, a peasant. I do not think he will listen to what I have to say. The beautiful lady disappeared, leaving only the sound of birds and the smell of roses to let Juan Diego know she had truly been there. Juan Diego decided that he would do as he had been told, and after he had finished his visit to the church, he would try to see the archbishop and let him know the enchanting ladies' wishes the services. The service was beautiful and left Juan Diego feeling small as he headed to see the archbishop. There was so much about this new Spanish religion he didn't understand, but as he came to the archbishop's home, he gained a deep confidence in his being. It was the same warmth he had felt when she smiled, welling up in his heart, he knocked on the door and waited. A servant came to the door and asked Juan Diego his name and what his reason was for knocking on the Archbishop's door. Juan Diego spoke saying he had a message of great importance for the great for the Great Lady. Great Lady was the only thing Juan Diego could think to describe the vision he had had on the mound. My name is Juan Diego and I must speak to His Holiness on her behalf. The servant disappeared into the house and upon his return, ushered Juan Diego, much to his surprise, into one of the most luxurious homes the peasant had ever seen. The servant dressed in Spanish attire of pants, a loose white shirt and a tight fitting black jacket. Took Juan Diego into a large, impressive, well lit office. The Archbishop will be in with you in a moment. The service servant said and was gone leaving Juan Diego to sit and look at all of the things set elegantly around him. He was in a great stone room, intricate and colorful tapestries hung on the walls around him. He sat in a foreign chair with a cushioned leather seat and armrest, which he had never experienced before. In front of him was a great desk carved of wood with many large books and piles of parchment stacked on it. On the walls in front of him. Behind the archbishop's chair was a large crucifix. The crucifix was a new and string symbol for him to worship. A man nailed to a cross that was in great pain, seemed ludicrous. But he kept his opinion silent because to share such thoughts. So soon after the conquest of his land by his people meant death. The archbishop came into the room beautiful, isn't it? Seeing Juan Diego staring at the cross. Yes. Your eminence said Juan Diego pushing his earlier thoughts deep down inside himself. So the great lady spoke to you. Yes, sir. And what did you say this lady? That she was the great mother and wished to have a church built for her at Cock in a valley below the Great Mound. And she sent you with her message? Yes sir. Why you, Juan Diego? She said I was chosen by her to accomplish her wish, but why? That is all she said, sir. Well, I can't just build a church for everyone who comes to me. I will need a sign from this goddess, this great mother before I can do anything for you. Return to me tomorrow with a sign from her and then we will see about her church. I. With this, he excused Juan Diego and sent for two of his servants, follow this peasant and return to me. Tell me where he goes and if it is only his wish for a church or if he speaks for a greater power, I want you to spy on him and this great mother and tell me if you think she is the great mother. The Virgin Mary mother of our one and only God. The servants bowed deeply. It will be done. Your eminence. With that. They left his palace. Antonio and Pascal followed Juan Diego through the city and out into the countryside. But as they approached Teka, the mound of the great lady, they lost him. It was as though Juan Diego had vanished into thin air. One minute he had been in plain sight on the brush covered red landscape, and the next he was gone. The servants, Antonio and Pascal felt foolish having lost him so easily and so on their return to the Archbishop's Palace, they decided that they would tell the Archbishop that Juan Diego was a liar and a cheat informing him that he had seen no Virgin Mary and that Juan Diego must want the church for his own reasons. When the Archbishop heard their story, he gave orders to have his household to his household that Juan Diego was to be refused interest entrance to the palace. Now, Juan Diego, hot and dirty, had no idea he was being followed. He only knew that he must return home to see his uncle and deliver the food and supplies he had brought in the city before nightfall. So he hurried home across the mesa top landscape. He walked past the mound where earlier that morning the birds had sung and the air had been like perfume, but nothing happened. Maybe it was all a dream, he thought, but what a wonderful dream it was. He smiled to himself and sang a little song as he walked the last leg of his journey. The sun was just beginning to set when Juan Diego saw his simple house off in the distance. A poor but sweet little home with herbs drying in the kitchen, tiled floors and thick adobe walls. It was a house with three rooms, a kitchen and two small bedrooms. One for his uncle and one for him. The bathroom was an outhouse and the planes behind the house. Juan Diego set the groceries on the small, rough pine table in the kitchen, and he began to put them away when he heard a groaning from the back room, he stopped. He stopped what he was doing and called out uncle. Is that you? Are you okay? The groaning continued and then a small voice of his uncle and a labored breath whispered. Yes, my nephew. I am Ill Please, please help me. Juan Diego wants to help him. He nursed his uncle through the night and into the morning having decided that asking for a sign from the great mother goddess would have to wait until he got a doctor for his uncle. He said how at first light to get the doctor, when he came to the mound, he decided to go a different way so he would miss the spot where he had seen the virgin the day before. I. As he walked along the far side of the mound, traversing the many rock outcroppings. He again had the same experience from the day before. The birds songs surrounded him. The air crystallized with life and the lady appeared to him. Juan Diego fell to the ground and put his forehead to the earth below the lady's feet When she saw he spoke. And he again, felt the peace, confidence, and healing in his bones. He felt empowered and whole as he had never felt before. Meeting with this great lady with newfound courage, he raised his head and spoke. Great lady. Who are you? You forgot to give me your name the last time we spoke and I was too frightened to ask. First, you'll tell me why you chose a different path today. Juan Diego, her voice touched him deeply and he answered, my uncle is ill and getting ready to die of some plague. I am going to the city to fetch your doctor to help him. If the doctor cannot help, I fear I will soon be making a second journey to fetch a priest to help him pass into heaven. The lady shook her head and smiling. Said. Go no further. My servant for your uncle has already been healed. Instead, return to the archbishop and tell him again of my demands to build a church for his followers to honor me and receive my love. The Archbishop says he needs a sign, something to touch his heart and show him that I do not just speak for my own ends, but for yours and the greater voice of God. The God has became more radiant and beautiful as she spoke. I shall now answer your question. I am the great mother and nurturer and destroyer of all. I am the Virgin mother of the Almighty God, and I'll give you your sign. Go to the top of the mound, and there you'll find red Spanish roses and bloom. Pick these and take them to the archbishop for they will be your sign. Once again, she was gone. Juan Diego thought to himself, if these roses are in bloom, this would indeed be a miracle for his far too cold for them to grow and the wrong time of year as well. He climbed the mound and at the top he found a patch of Spanish roses in full bloom, just as the lady had foretold. He was amazed and deeply humbled with great devotion as he picked the roses and gathered them in his tunic and said half to see the archbishop to share the sign. As Juan Diego came to the Palace Gates, he found that they were barred. The servants ignored his requests to see the bishop. Instead, they asked him what it was he was hiding in the folds of his tunic. He tried to hide the roses saying they are for the archbishop's eyes only. The servants became more and more enraged with him, and finally, when he was in fear for his own life, surrounded by servants, all holding weapons, he was forced to show them the flowers. The servants were so shocked at the site of roses at this time of year that they stopped what they were doing. Some of the servants had the courage to try and take the flowers from Juan Diego, but as happened the day before, a strange confidence built in his peasant heart. How dare you try and touch those flowers, or the Lord strike you down for such insul. They are now for the Archbishop alone, and I demand to see him now. A servant ran off and within moments he had returned, he escorted Juan Diego to the same office he had been the day before the Archbishop entered and noticed a change in Juan Diego's stature, A wrath in his tired eyes, and a glow in his heart, dark, wrinkled, sun, worn skin. He decided that he would treat this man with care. Today. My son, you have returned to me. Yes, said Juan Diego and what have you brought for me today? I have brought the sign you requested and he took off his tunic and set it on the desk so that the archbishop could see the flowers. This, this is your sign. The archbishop had a hard time keeping his disdain out of his voice Roses. But as he went to pick up the flowers, his hand passed through them. They had turned into light and had begun to become a part of the robe, taking on the background and border for the great mother image, which was rising on its own within the cloak. Juan Diego said, this is the last time, the last time I spoke with the goddess, she said. That she was the great mother, the virgin who gave birth to your one and only God. She said that I was to return to you with this sign to touch your heart and to make you see that this church must be built for her. The Archbishop was deeply touched and bowed his head so that he lay at the feet of the great lady on the cloak. He begged her for her forgiveness and asked her name. A voice as sweet as birds rose in the wind and spoke. I am the Virgin of Guadalupe forever. Forever, forever. Forever. Remember me by this name, my virgin mother. You shall have a church built in your name at the site you have requested he turned to Juan Diego. Now Diego, you must show me this site so that we may begin construction immediately. The Archbishop called his carpenters and craftsmen to join him. He and Juan Diego said out to the valley of Juan Diego, took them there and said, now I must leave you. Why? I asked the archbishop, I must go to my uncle for you see, when I set out today, it was not to see you or the lady, but to find a doctor to help my uncle. He was very sick and close to death. I wanted to find a way to help him. When I saw the lady, she said that she had healed my uncle. I must go home to see if this is true. Then I will join you for if this healing has taken place. This will be yet another miracle. I must be there to recognize it. A miracle like this will bring great devotion. If it is true, the church to our lady will be finished very quickly. Indeed. The entire party followed Juan Diego to his small home where they found his Uncle Sancho in the best of health. When Juan Diego asked what had happened, Sancho told of how the most beautiful lady he had ever seen had come to him and touched his heart while he lay in bed, burning a fever. She smiled and a warmth like liquid rose had entered my heart and at that moment my illness was gone. And to this day, I have truly never felt better. The Archbishop hearing this new, it was. The Archbishop hearing this knew it was true and invited Juan Diego and his Uncle Sancho to live in his palace until the church was finished. He said that upon completion they would be its caretakers and the robe with the image of the great goddess will hang as a centerpiece of the altar. To this day, the robe hangs on the altar of the Church of Teka and brings to it many that wish to honor The great mother, all who see the robe, know that it was made of light, a miracle of God, and not by the hand of man. This is the story of how the great lady goddess Virgin Mary was given her place to share her love. In the House of Man may all rejoice. Uh, may all rejoice. I do love that story. May she bring that healing to us when and all? Oh, may you all have a glorious week. A week filled with joy, a week filled with plenty and a week filled with glorious. And I call out to you, monkey Max on these darkest nights. Play us out, sir. Play us out. You see the. It's part of the ritual, part of the Ride. Full song of the God. Of course the man's supposed to cry when this all is sacred need. Divine freedom is sacred and. So much more than this human shall blis. The song just really can't compare to the Mr. Beauty of the Mighty Bear. You make the gro and you make it. Of that we'll alive, so we only may song God.
