and Carly Wilson delivering the latest scoop from the digital realm. The former C.E.O of Twitter, Parag Agrawal, has unveiled his AI startup, named Parallel Web Systems, which has recently emerged from stealth mode. Agrawal has been working on this venture since early 2024, having secured around$30 million from venture capital firms like Khosla Ventures, Index Ventures, and First Round Capital. The startup aims to develop an API for AIs using web data, though specific details about its mission remain sparse. The company's website suggests that AI utilization of the web will greatly increase, necessitating evolution in infrastructure and business models. Based in Palo Alto, the startup's legal documentation points to an address in San Francisco, near the former Twitter office. Interestingly, Parallel Web Systems is tied to another entity, Shapley Inc., where Agrawal is also an officer. Agrawal's exit from Twitter followed Elon Musk's acquisition in October 2022. Tensions reportedly arose between Agrawal and Musk over an account tracking Musk's jet, which Agrawal refused to remove. This clash preceded Musk's strategic acquisition of Twitter shares, culminating in Agrawal's dismissal post-acquisition. Parallel Web Systems has not commented on inquiries made outside regular hours.

Microsoft plans to launch new autonomous AI agents for businesses, aiming to compete with Salesforce. At its AI Tour event in London, Microsoft announced that organizations can create their own AI agents within Copilot Studio starting next month. These AI agents can function as virtual workers, performing tasks without supervision. Microsoft will introduce these agents in Dynamics 365, enhancing sales, service, finance, and supply chain operations. Jared Spataro of Microsoft showcased an AI developed by McKinsey, highlighting its ability to parse emails and handle various tasks. McKinsey reported a potential lead time reduction by 90% using this technology. Salesforce, meanwhile, criticized Microsoft's copilot model, claiming it doesn't meet enterprise needs effectively. Zahra Bahrololoumi of Salesforce argued that autonomous planning and execution require different AI tools. The rivalry between Microsoft and Salesforce remains intense in the AI sector, with previous disputes over competition regulations. Additionally, Microsoft secured a five-year deal with the U.K. government to provide access to its AI and productivity tools. X has announced new terms of service effective November 15, granting it the right to use user content globally for AI model training. This change has sparked concern among artists and users about the use of personal and creative data. Some users have already started removing personal photos from their accounts. Disputes over these terms are directed to federal courts in Texas. Prior to this, users had the option to opt out of data sharing under"privacy and safety" settings. It's uncertain if this opt-out option will remain under the new terms. The platform's AI, Grok, has faced criticism for misinformation and generating inappropriate content. The updated terms do not specify exemptions for private accounts. This broad licensing strategy is not uncommon but lacks clarity found in other platforms. The impact on user opt-out abilities remains to be seen.

Microsoft has restricted access to its Azure Open A.I Service in mainland China. This decision follows local regulatory requirements that prevent individual users from subscribing. Only enterprise customers will be eligible to use this service in China. The restriction was communicated to Microsoft's cloud users via email. This move aligns with compliance efforts in response to China's regulatory landscape. The change reflects the balancing act tech companies face while navigating differing international regulations. There is no indication when or if individual access might be reconsidered. The restriction may impact developers and individuals seeking to leverage AI tools independently. Microsoft remains focused on meeting compliance standards in different markets. This decision highlights the complexities of offering cloud-based AI services globally. Meta has introduced Meta Spirit LM, an open-source multimodal language model designed to integrate speech and text effectively. This innovation aims to enhance text-to-speech processes by focusing on maintaining the expressive qualities of speech. The model uses a word-level interleaving method for training that leverages both speech and text datasets, allowing for cross-modality generation. It is available in two versions: Spirit LM Base, which uses phonetic tokens, and Spirit LM Expressive, which adds pitch and style tokens to convey emotions. Meta's goal is to inspire ongoing research in speech and text integration. Concurrently, Google has launched NotebookLM for converting text into podcast form using AI. Google’s model uses their Gemini 1.5 system for content and voice generation, supported by a tool called Content Studio. Meanwhile, Open A.I’s Advanced Voice Mode on Chat G.P.T allows for creative voice interactions like singing duets. Multiple companies, including Kyutai and Hume AI, are also making notable advancements in voice AI technology. Amazon is partnering with Anthropic to enhance the conversational capabilities of Alexa.
