SPEAKER_01

It's a later Hi Case. Welcome to The Latest with Maya. Case Walker is an actor and singer who you've seen in the other two and the Monster High movies. Case also recently guest starred in an episode of Elsbeth. Thank you so much for joining me and for being my 600th interview.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much, Maya. It's a pleasure to be here at 600th interview.

SPEAKER_01

Um so who do you uh most admire and how has that affected the way you live your life?

SPEAKER_00

That is a great question. I admire a lot of people. Um my twin brother probably is uh has been the longest person I've admired in my life, of course, because we've been together for 23 years. Um, and I would say what I most admire about him is his faithfulness to who he is, his faithfulness to God um and his family, and then um his persistence and humility. Uh I've been a pretty crazy brother. Like I've been the entertainer and had this crazy career, and um, and he's just always been there for me and always supported me. And so I think I admire him probably the most out of anyone else in my life.

SPEAKER_01

Oh I love that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I actually I have a twin sister.

SPEAKER_00

Whoa, are you are you guys fraternal or identical?

SPEAKER_01

Uh we're fraternal, same, same with my brother. Yeah, yeah. People always, when we were younger, said we looked alike, but now we don't really look alike.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we've kind of gone. Some people think we look alike, some people don't. It's always kind of moved around a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. Um, and actually, I wanted to tell you, I'm actually I'm doing like a um the other two theme because my 500th interview was with Ken Marino.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh, Ken's amazing. Ken's the that's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So are you is 700th gonna be with someone else from the other two?

SPEAKER_01

Or I'm gonna try.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, great.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, yeah. Um, so what uh small things bring you joy on a daily basis?

SPEAKER_00

Small things that bring me joy. My the small things in my life are my favorite part about my life. Yeah, I would say the sun, simply get being in the sun. If there, I really love sunlight. Um going out for a barefoot walk. Um, just like prayer walking, I just walk and talk to God and like just process the day in life. And the yeah, the sun and walking, as simple as that sounds.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I love that. Yeah, yeah. For me, I love when it's cloudy.

SPEAKER_00

Really? Yeah, you you said you said you like the snow, you like, you know, and I can I can see that as well, because it's not as like it's not as aggressive, you know, you're not getting hit with like to go outside. It's it's best when it's warm and cloudy, too, right? Or do you like the cold?

SPEAKER_01

I like the cold.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We're we we're sitting, we're sitting on opposite opposite ends there, but Colorado offers both of those things, so it's okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um, so I love all of your music. Um, is there an artist or song that you considered to be the gold standard when it comes to songwriting and storytelling?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I think there's some people that come close to the gold standard. I don't want to be the one to say what the gold standard is. Um, but Noah Khan and Ed Sharon kind of hit some really special spots for me while also capturing a mainstream audience. I think sometimes there's mainstream artists who don't necessarily, you know, capture the musical authenticity songwritern-ness. And Ed Sharon and Noah Khan, I think that do that very well on a very big stage. So I really enjoy their music. I think Ed Sharon obviously has the songwriter um love story ends of things, and Noah Khan is kind of this folk authenticity from his soul stuff. So I really love their music.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, oh I love that. I love them. Yeah, I um I love writing song lyrics, so I always love hearing other people's inspiration.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I think everyone should write music.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, definitely. I can't like set it to music or anything, but I write it down.

SPEAKER_00

So I think that's such a that's such a good way to go. It's kind of borderline poetry, borderline, getting your thoughts out there. And yeah, yeah, it's really, really great.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, definitely. Um so I am uh pop culture obsessed, and I go in stages of shows that I cannot stop watching. Yes. Um, is there a show that you are currently obsessed with?

SPEAKER_00

This is gonna sound really funny because I'm an actor and I love film. But recently I've been watching reality TV for the first time, and I've been watching Fear Factor, House of Fear. So they just released a new version of Fear Factor, and somehow in the world of so much content online on YouTube TV, I ended up watching like one episode, and I've just been throwing it on as like a guilty pleasure. So that's that's the show I've been keeping up with weekly.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I'm also a rock climber. I like I think I enjoy watching people like react to these scary situations and get through these hard things, and so it's it's very fun, you know. They're getting snakes dropped on their head or like you know, crawling through things carrying like rats in their mouth. There's crazy stuff they have them do. It's pretty, pretty entertaining.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah. See, I have anxiety, so I don't think I'd like watching something.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. I I tried to show it to my fiance in um in her mom, and they were like, nope, can't do it.

unknown

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um so you uh wrote and uh directed and starred in the short film Neuro. Yes, that's uh what was the inspiration behind the story?

SPEAKER_00

Neuro was a film written out of reflection on my own life and how I process my own life. I think acting is a job where you can really have high expectations for yourself, have this idea of where you really want to be. And Neuro, the core theme is that oftentimes we have this idea about where we want to be and who we want to be. And if I was just this person, if this just hadn't happened to me, or if I could, if I could just be here, I would be okay. I would be, I would have my ideal life. And Neiro is this exploration that that's actually not true in a sense, and that we can actually be very content with exactly where we're at, and we're actually um probably where we're we're supposed to be. And um Neiro follows an athlete who or who was an athlete, an ex-athlete who's had this terrible injury and ends up working on a farm and and and really despises his life and essentially meets um the ideal version of himself if he would have never been injured in a kind of a different alternate universe and realizes that he can actually be okay with his life and who he is. And I feel like I've gone on that journey as a person and an actor of of kind of accepting who I am and and where I'm at and and being really grateful for it and thankful for it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love that. Um, are you hoping to do more writing and directing?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I would love to. If if the opportunities come, I I really, really love working with good people um and just friend, just people in general, honestly. Um, and being able to to lead others. I enjoy that position and also you know, up put others in positions where they get to creatively flourish. Um, and I like being a director. I think it's different than an actor because you get to carry out your own vision as opposed to helping someone carry out theirs, which is I love to I love being an actor, I love being directed. Um, but it is fun to be like, all right, here's where we're going with this story.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, oh I love that. Um so do you have a go-to comfort show or movie that you just turn on when you need to tune out the world?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Right now it is Fear Factory. But I think overall, uh my fiance really likes the office, and the office has kind of become this like it's always pretty similar. There's no new elements being thrown at you. It's very funny, not to say that the show is just bland, but it's just always you can always expect Michael Scott being a terrible boss, and there's something really comforting about the office lately.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, oh I love that. Yeah, I have a long list that I just rotate between.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I think animated movies are always cars. Oh, oh, cars, cars one, the original cars is like oh yeah, I can always go to the original cars and feel pretty safe and comfortable.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, definitely. Yeah, I uh one of my comfort shows is definitely the other two, it just always makes me laugh.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, yes. Chase dreams, chase dreams while the other two siblings are just dying.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. This little 12-year-old taking over the world. Yeah, that's awesome. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. I uh I re-watch it all the time. It's one of my favorites.

SPEAKER_00

So thank you. That's that's such a um that's also awesome to hear. I'm glad the show is is it's aging really well, it sounds like for a lot of people.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, yeah, definitely. Um, so if you had a warning label, what would yours say?

SPEAKER_00

My warning label would probably say warning, I never stop talking. I really like to talk. I really like to talk. Um, it's it's purely out of excitement. I just feel like I'm like, I want to share this, I want to outwardly process yours. So yeah. I love to talk. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love that. Yeah. Um, so what genre of movie would your life story be told as?

SPEAKER_00

I feel like my life story would be told as a a comedy that you can't believe is based on a true story. One of those where you're like, like Roofman with Channing Tatum, which isn't a comedy, but you think it's gonna be a comedy, and you're like, this is this dude really like hit out in a toys or us. And that's really like that's a drama. That's a very sad story. Um and and it's and and they did a very great job of it. But it is like just crazy. Like it's just a crazy story. And I feel like sometimes I feel like that's that is what that is what my life would be like. The other two, some of the other early other two seasons were based off of stories that from my life that I told Chris and Sarah. And I said, We the first two riders' rooms for season one, sat down with them, and I was like, hey, here's what's going on. Um, the whole episode based on Chase and the social media girl where they put them together. Like I had some of that going on early in my career. Um, where you like would it was just this funny social media stuff. The other two would really satire it, but I it really was a lot based on real stuff that I was um experiencing happen and stuff. Sorry, someone, my doorbell thing's going off, but oh, it's okay. Anyways, that's some fun little back info.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I love that. Yeah, yeah. I've I've always wanted my life story to be both a musical and a rom-com. So that that's my dream.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like that's a great category to want it to be. I think, I think, I think, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Rom coms every when when everyone watches a good rom com, you always want to be in it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's like you always like, I wish I was like it's warm, it's happy. Um yeah, they're just great.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, definitely. I have a go-to rom com that always like I want to live in that world. So one is that it's called Home Again.

SPEAKER_00

Home Again.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's Swithery Switherspoon.

SPEAKER_00

I I may have seen it. I may have to run through that one again. Me and me and my fiance are going through a bunch of rom-coms, so I may have to go through that one. We just did How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Oh, and that's Matthew McConaughey, and he's like, they basically both have and it's um Kate Hudson, and they just have alternate goals. And I don't know if I'd want to be in that one, but but most of them, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, definitely. Yeah, I think I saw that one a long time ago. I have to go rewatch that one. Oh, it's it's great.

SPEAKER_00

Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson do a really great job, which I think Kate Hudson just had some type of Oscar nomination.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I love that. Yeah, um, so is there a song of yours that is the most personal to you?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, the most personal song I have out would probably be gems, because it's not really about anyone specific. It was just kind of my heart of like what I would do for someone I love. And then there's a song, there's two songs I have that aren't out yet, which are very personal. One's called Talk to God on the Freeway. It's kind of about being like a lone ranger in LA and um and just in the world and and being okay with it, but feeling a little alone, and then the other one is um about my fiance, and I wrote it before we were engaged and before we started dating, and so it's kind of aged really well.

SPEAKER_01

Um I love that. Yeah. Um so what is uh the biggest obstacle, either personally or professionally, that you've overcome?

SPEAKER_00

I think the biggest obstacle I've overcome is probably the idea that I'm the problem. I think a lot of actors, personally and professionally, I think a lot of actors are people who maybe don't feel like they fit in. Sometimes, right? They're these entertainers, they're often we're often very performative people, um, sometimes not, sometimes we're introverts as well. Um, but you do feel like sometimes you're too much. Sometimes people don't understand you, and so you find your way to this amazing craft. And personally, I've I've I've kind of had to overcome that of okay, there is times to probably quiet down at the dinner table, there is times to probably not make the joke, but also that is like it's a superpower, and you just gotta control it and you're not the problem, you know. And so and so many times people aren't calling you the problem, you just grew up as a kid and or as an actor and interpreted that way, right? The imposter syndrome, the ah, you know, and uh that's the biggest obstacle I've overcome. And I feel like this year is the year I've kind of finally started to get to this place where it's like that's not the narrative, you're not the problem case, acting-wise or personally. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Wow. Yeah. Um so do you um have um a show or like movie that you constantly um quote or reference?

SPEAKER_00

A show or movie I constantly quote and reference. Oh, I just I just had one I was referencing a bunch. A lot of other people reference Braveheart. I don't reference Braveheart, but that's what's coming to mind. Shoot. Give me two seconds, and if not, we can move on. Oh, I've been referencing a movie. I I it's it's blipped my brain. I ref I reference a lot of movies for like creative stuff. I've been every like I just watched Roofman and I've really been referencing that of like like um just like of how interesting of a movie it is, but it hasn't been like a quoting one. So yeah, I'll come back to that if it pops up.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, yeah. I I have a long list also of those that I just my brain is just like filled with these show and movie quotes. That's like all that's in my brain. Yes, yes, yeah. I remember always joking with my mom, and when I was in high school, I'd always be like, There's no room for anything else. I need room for all my pop culture stuff.

SPEAKER_00

So pop culture is such a fun world to to get lost in. It is a really, it is a really fun world.

SPEAKER_01

It is, yeah. Um I actually I don't know if you can see the sign, but I I hung up a sign that says interview number 600. Thank you, Case Walker.

SPEAKER_00

I I I think it's back there. I can't see it, but that is so awesome. Which one is it? If you point to it.

SPEAKER_01

Um it's like right above the I have an live on air sign and it's taped right above. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yes, oh, oh no, I can see I see 600 two exclamation marks and then my name below. Yes, okay. I can see that is awesome. That is awesome. That is a lot of that is an impressive pop culture collection interview collection back there. That is awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, thank you. Thank you. Yeah, I um yeah, my room I've just filled with all these pop culture um posters and pictures.

SPEAKER_00

So it's great, it's a very elegant looking collection as well. I love the black frames, I love the replacement. I love the Maya's world in the middle as well.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, thank you. Thank you. Yeah, a friend of mine actually gave me that sign when I after I had my 300th interview. She gave me that sign.

SPEAKER_00

You've done way more interviews than I've than I will probably ever do.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Um, so if you could give someone in your life a star on the walk of fame, who would it be?

SPEAKER_00

Great question. I would give my fiancee the star on the walk of fame. Her name is Madeline Winscott, which is just a perfect, and and it's you know, the obviously we'll get married, last name will change, but first name Madeline, and like that's just such a pretty name, I feel like for the Walk of Fame. And um, and she's just a superstar. I'm the only audience, but she's a superstar.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I love that. Yeah. Um so if you had to choose a theme song that plays every time you enter a room, what would it be and why?

SPEAKER_00

It would be You May Be Right by Billy Joel, because that's my go-to karaoke song. And then it's just, you know, the chorus says you may be right, or you may be I may be right, you may be wrong, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for. And um, I feel like I'm just I'm just coming in, I'm like, you know, everything's on the table. Kicking my feet up and dancing to some Billy Joel.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Oh, I love that. I love that song.

SPEAKER_00

It's a great song, it's a classic, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It is. Yeah, there I love all of his songs. Like my mom raised me and my sister, and his music and just a ton of 80s music. And I think my favorite song of his is um Only the Good Die Young.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Um, yeah, yes, I'm not as familiar with Only the Good Die Young. I I know like I can hear the melody in my head, but um, maybe I gotta add that one to to um to my list.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's still rock and roll to me is the other Billy Joel on Very First on. That's my favorite. Those are both.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. Yeah, I love all of his music. Um, yeah, there's uh so many songs I constantly have on repeat that um yeah, that I think I drive my um mom a little bit crazy because it's like all um it's it will be like this same artist for several months and then. Yeah. Thank you. Um so is there a movie world that you wish you lived in?

SPEAKER_00

Cars. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I love that.

SPEAKER_00

Route 66. When I road trip through Arizona by myself on the way to California or road trip through Utah, I just wanna, I wanna, I wanna, you know, I wanna get lost and end up in in that little town. And uh and you know, I'll go pave the road. You know, in the first movie they repave the road, I'll I'll hang out there for a while.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Oh, I love that. Yeah. I I think I'd wanna live in the world of home again.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, okay, the rom-com one. I was thinking home the animated home the animated movie for a second. But home again, yes. And I gotta I'm gonna write that down real quick. We're gonna I'm gonna watch that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm gonna write down um how to lose a guy in 10 days.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I would love to hear what you think of the movie.

SPEAKER_00

I will, yeah. I uh if we when when this interview comes out, or I'll I'll have you know we got the email chain, so yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm excited to hear what you think.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome, awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, so I just have uh one final question for you. Um so today, what are you most grateful for?

SPEAKER_00

Today I had a really good breakfast this morning with some of um some good friends of ours, and I got to make um French toast and uh and eggs. And it was just I was just thankful to be up this morning having breakfast with people in this interview. I think just I'm thankful for uh for um breath and things to do today.

SPEAKER_01

Like you and friends, people, you uh well I I'm so grateful to be talking with you. I just I've been such a fan of yours for so long.

SPEAKER_00

So um I know it's it sounds like it sounds like you're one of our the other two's like biggest, like you've been very loyal to the show. So if you're re-watching it, so that is it's so great to so great to meet you and um and uh you're you can see that I'm I'm not just uh chase dreams.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I got some of them in me, but I'm not all talking about that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I um I remember when the show um first premiered, and I remember my mom had watched it, and then she was telling me and my sister about it, and then we were like, we have to go watch this. So then she uh we all started watching it together.

SPEAKER_00

It's a great binge, it's fun to watch with people, it's 10 episodes each season, and you can just knock it out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and every episode like makes you laugh out loud, and I guess I love it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, some of the jokes are so specific, and and sometimes you'll catch new ones too when you rewatch, you're like, oh yeah, yeah, that's so funny.

SPEAKER_01

It's so funny, yeah. Um well thank you um so much for joining me today and for being my 600th interview. Um, I just I can't tell you um how much this means to me to be talking with you. And I've had the best time, so thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. It is a pleasure to be your 600th. I think it's amazing you've done 600 interviews. They're so cool. And I hope we get to talk again sometime. Maybe maybe for your 1200th, maybe we we double it. I hope that that may be too long down the road, maybe like maybe like 750 or something.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I would love that. I would love to talk with you again whenever you want to come back on.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome. We probably can talk about uh 10 guys and uh or how to lose a guy in 10 days and in home again.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, definitely. Yeah, we have to do like a whole rom com edition.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. You gotta give me a list of rom-coms to watch and we'll and we'll podcast it.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, uh I'm excited. Yeah, um thank you uh so much again, and um I hope you have a great rest of your day.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much, Maya. I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful rest of your day as well. It was a pleasure.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you. Uh and that's a wrap on today's edition of the latest to admire.
