Join us as we talk with Joni Johnston Neidigh ONbein a keynote, AND WE LOOK AT SOME UPCOMING CONFERENCES WE WE WILL BE AT
Good morning, everyone. Dan Goethe here. Welcome to the Monday Report. And I'm just going to go ahead and make sure that we are live, all the places that we're supposed to be broadcasting on. So and it appears that we are broadcasting on our website at Hypno World magazine and on our YouTube page. And we have a special reason that we're on the conference group page today, because today we are going to be talking with one of the most amazing people that I had the privilege of meeting many years ago. I believe it hypnothoughts. I want to say hypnothots, but I could be wrong. But that is the amazing clinical hypnotherapist Joni Johnson Knighty. And we are going to bring her on without any further ado. Good morning, Joni.
SPEAKER_01Good morning. So I got your little name. Yeah. So you did the whole thing perfectly.
SPEAKER_00I know I'm always, I'm always gonna, I'm afraid I'm gonna mess it up.
SPEAKER_02So you've got it now.
SPEAKER_00I mean, after all, I I couldn't get your better half name at the first conference, the entire conference. Um, I'm just like I can't remember what I was calling him, but it wasn't his name.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I think he liked it better. Yeah, yeah, it's all good. It's nice to have a different identity when you go somewhere else sometimes. So that's good.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Um, I did the same thing to Brian Potts. I think the whole time he was there, I was calling him Byron. And uh yeah, so and of course now he's on my planning board for the the the conference, so he has been a huge help. And just just to let you guys know, really quick, as always, this product, this podcast and broadcast is being brought to you by the North American Hypnotherapy Guild. Scan the QR code, check it out, subscribe, become a member, as well as being brought to you by, and there's our YouTube page. Check it out, like it, and hey, Hypno World magazine as well. We have so many sponsors. Um, so that's the link that will take you to the magazine to subscribe, and it will be emailed directly to your house. So it is one of the it's the only uh print magazine covering what's happening in the world of hypnosis. I'm gonna say that right now, proudly. So, but even more important than that is this year's keynote speaker for the Michigan Hypnosis Conference, Joni Knighty. So, and we're so proud to have you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you. Yeah, I'm very excited about the the message and the keynote and being able to kick off the conference. I think that's really important to set the tone for the entire conference because it is such a wonderful conference, and I want to make sure that I do my part in in making that happen.
SPEAKER_00So absolutely. And this year we have something special for you. Uh, as we are growing up, uh, we got a hold of the hotel, and we're gonna have a stage. You know, you're gonna be up on the main stage this year. Yeah, be very cool. So um, a couple people are like, shouldn't we have a stage? And I'm like, fine, we'll have a stage.
SPEAKER_02That's great. You're always adding something just up in the game, right?
SPEAKER_00I'm I we we try, we try. I mean, you know me, I I will present from you know, it's like, well, can you stand in that garbage can, Dan? Yeah, sure. I gotta cover it. Here I go.
SPEAKER_02I know. Well, I mean, and that's a an important thing to be able to do, right? I mean, it's nice to have all these um these perks and these these things that make us um just feel a little better, have a little bit more fun with. But I mean, I've done presentations, um, had to be extremely flexible with with athletic teams. And I have presented from the boathouse, you know, when I was working with crew, and I thought I was gonna have a classroom, and they're like, you know, and all my stuff was in the classroom, and they're like, Hey, we're not gonna be able to get back, and you just go ahead and do your presentation here, and you know, of course, the answer is always yes, right? Yeah, yeah. When you say yes, something just changes inside of you, you're just able to do it. So yeah, I love the stage.
SPEAKER_00Yes, but we thought, well, Joni's coming, so clearly, you know, we have to have a stage.
SPEAKER_02Oh, nice, how nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just uh make make it better. So, and we have uh just a lot of good things going on. So, what is the message? I know you sent it to me, but I'll let you share it with them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so it's about what what game changers unlock. That's the title, and five keys that every hypnotist should carry. And so I I especially wanted to talk about us as game changers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so excellent. Um, I I have tried to be a game changer.
SPEAKER_02Um, I don't think you've tried, I think you've clearly represented that. And I I guess maybe listening to my talk, you'll have a better understanding of that taking in that word try out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh you know what? I should. As we always say, uh, what was that? Somebody told me a long time ago in psychology, try predisposes failure.
SPEAKER_02So but yeah, that's why you always hear it, it is like it does present that element, doesn't it? Like, you know, mm-hmm. Like it might happen or it might not. So I I never want to leave that to chance.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like every guy, I tried to take the garbage out. Um right?
SPEAKER_02Oh, a lot that's just an excuse. That's just and honestly, I mean, not to get uh too far on a tangent, but when you when you were talking about the psychological component, that's actually true, right? It's just our excuse for failure so that we can put that buffer there so we feel better in the event that it doesn't happen. And and that's just not helpful. It's not helpful in a lot of ways because we ought to be okay if uh things fall short sometimes.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I I think so. Um, but also one of the things that happened this year was you won a fairly prestigious award. So I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I'd love to talk about that um because it is actually was the inspiration for the my keynote topic. And when you think about when you're asked to do a keynote, you understand, you know, what your responsibility is and what what you need to accomplish. And one thing, of course, is to try to be a little memorable so that there'll be great takeaways. But you know, in thinking about you're like, you know, should I talk about the thing I know the most about? But I think we have to we want to talk about something that really resonates with us and that it's current. And so it was actually last year, it was 2025. I received a national award and in Iowa, and it's called the Humana. They're they're the sponsor, Humana Game Changer Award. And I think you know who about Humana, you know, yeah. So it was um, I was actually had qualified for the national meet to run in the 5K and the 10K. I don't know. Many of you might not know, but I'm an I'm an athlete and I've sort of up my game in the last few years. I took all the principles, all the things I've been teaching my athletes, and decided to try them on myself and see, you know, because I I never really competed in high school or college or anything like that. So, and it worked quite well. So I ended up qualifying for nationals, uh, the national senior games. And I know that sounds like, oh, well, um, I went to compete with you know, 50-year-olds and over, and you know, how hard can that be? Well, it's it can be very hard. I'm proud to say that as a a nation, especially my state of Florida, because we won the whole thing. Um I am so proud to say how many seniors, 50 and above, is because that's what they call us, um, are able to perform the way they do. The in my one of my events, it was the the 5k race. And if you guys don't know about times, um for someone my age, like running a 24, 25 minute 5K is impressive. And I, you know, I was thinking about where I might place and all this. Well, the winner in my event went 20 point, okay. And that's faster than a lot of the guys in my area, and and I live in a fast area for running, go. And so um, just to give you some eye-opener there. So, anyway, when you um they ask you, you have to fill out a lot of information. They want to know, you know, who's who's who's coming, who's representing, um, not only their state, but their sport. And so it's just you know, standard questions, and I learned a lot about myself filling out that that form. I was surprised they would care that much to go that deep and ask that many questions. So anyway, I just filled it out, let it go. And then it wasn't too much too long after that that I got a call saying that I had been selected as the you know 2025 Humana Game Changer. And I didn't even know there that was a thing or what that meant. And so then they went on to say that you know, over the next few months, they would be sending out there would be multiple like national interviews and local interviews, and I'd be asked to be on podcasts and um yeah, and you know, my wheels were kind of spinning because I'm a very busy person, and I thought, what have I gotten myself into? Um I really and that I'd be that I would receive this award in front of thousands of people in Iowa on the um in front of the Capitol building from the president of Humana. And so it was very exciting. I have to say, um just months before that, I actually competed in the world indoor track championships for masters, and I never envisioned myself doing anything remotely like that, but I went and it was in I was invited and accepted and expected to be last in my event, so I knew I was gonna get a lot of applause. Um, but I actually ended up placing eighth, I had two events and ninth in the world. So I thought I had arrived, but when I received this award, it was it was just amazing because it was about influencing other people in the area of health and wellness, and and you know, being that inspiration. So that was deeper for me, you know, from where I'm coming from, and what I've always tried to accomplish is to spread a bigger message and be a role model, if you will. And so that that was it for me. So, like, if I never get another award, I'm good. So it needless to say, 2025 was a great year, but then when I actually had time without all of that attention, there was a lot of attention on me. I did learn I don't want to be a celebrity. Oh it's I'm I really like how things have calmed down, but I think it really inspired me to want to give this keynote and say, basically, talk about what not we know we're game changers at some level as hypnotherapists and hypnotists, we are we know that we know we're we wouldn't do it, we wouldn't continue to do it if we didn't see some results and success. But what makes us actually memorable? What makes us stand out and really have a deep understanding of that? That we are truly special, and because of that, other people become that way too. And so that is embedded in my message. It's not my message, I'm gonna give away my message, but I will say I do think it'll be worth hearing, and I'm excited to share it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yes, I yeah, I mean, uh, why wouldn't it be worth hearing? Um, so when we were looking at the the keynote last year, and we were um I think, well, who who do we have to have? Your name came right to the top, like of the entire board. No, it's gotta be Joni. So I was like, yes, absolutely. And we are special. As a matter of fact, Heather just told me today that I was special, mostly because I can't spell the word special.
SPEAKER_02Well, spelling isn't everything, thankfully.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. Um, off topic, I was actually talking with that with a friend of mine the other day because I'm I'm gonna be 56 this year. And uh so young. I know. And he said to me, uh, we were talking about that. I said, you know what? They didn't teach us to when I went to school, they didn't teach us how to spell. They just gave you a list of words, you had to memorize them and then write them down on the sheet. So you really didn't learn how to spell, you learned how to memorize those words and put them back out on the they didn't teach you like, well, this is why the word goes here and the letter goes there. Um, so I've always been sounding out words and I get them wrong all the time, just because I can't memorize every word in the English language. So that was one of the interesting things.
SPEAKER_02I don't think spelling's a big thing now, right? Because we we have all the things that can do it for us, but you know, I'm way ahead of you at 67 years old, and um it's uh I I did spelling bees growing up. I don't even know. I they still have them, and like my whole goal was to go to the national spelling bee, and I was able to do that. I didn't make it very far once I got there, but um, I was really a nerd like with words, like I just wanted to learn how to spell as many words as I could. So it's we're on like opposite ends of the spectrum here.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, it's like you know a word, you understand words, I can remember words. Um, so yeah, and I wouldn't does that that's gotta help. I just popped into my head, you know, having that much information about words and how they work in your practice. I mean, that would you know what I mean? That's just like that's gotta help.
SPEAKER_02So I guess I think though, what do we learn? We learned that we're we use the clients' words, right? Yeah, yeah, yes. So I'm like, yeah, it's a good thing I I I had a broader lexicon before I got started. So now not so much. Now I don't even know if I talk like myself anymore, but but most of the most mostly like the athletes that I work with. Um which is you know, speaking of language, I mean, they teach us everything we need to know, and I've learned so much about different sports. So it's been excellent.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you're you're right about that. Uh I don't sound like myself at all. Uh if for people that know me or don't know me and have been watching this, nobody wants to hear their clinical hypnotherapist say, All right, see right there. We're gonna brut in there if we can't find it, it'll be fine. We'll kick it out. It's all right. They'll be like, I'll just continue with the anxiety. Thank you.
SPEAKER_02Is that right? You never know, you might find someone.
SPEAKER_00So uh yes, but also I should say, I'm gonna announce this real quick. Um I just talked to Heidi Castle, she's our contact there at the Greek town Hollywood Casino and Hotel, and they're telling me that Monroe Street is now open and it is 99% done and looks amazing. So I don't know if you were there last year, Joni. Um, we had all that construction up. So that is that's gonna be gone, which will be nice. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's great. Yeah, I've seen it both ways. The first because it's gonna be my third time in Greek town, right? So but I will that's great because I can get to the coffee quicker. So that well, that um the bakery, which is phenomenal, right there, right outside the hotel. They also have one dollar coffee that is amazing. Oh my god, I still rave about that coffee. Can't wait to get there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and here I didn't know that. I did not know that. One dollar coffee. I've been just like, whatever coffee they brought me in the morning is what I drank. Um, you know, and I'm drinking coffee right now. Um, this is actually I don't know where I got this cup. I think that I might have absconded this cup from a cat from some cafe. Um, because I will do that because I always have a cup of coffee with me. So I'm almost certain that I was drinking it, got up to leave and just walked out the door with it, you know, as if it were my coffee cup, but nobody stopped me. So I'm okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, maybe I should bring you one from the Paris Olympics and then you'll wear your hat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I know. I was just telling her, I have not worn the hat yet. Still has a tag on it. Um, but I promise I will wear it to the conference. I will make that.
SPEAKER_02That's I think you should wear it to introduce me, don't you?
SPEAKER_00I think I should. I will we'll do that by golly and thunder. Um, and I'll have to take the the tag off of it. Um, she, if you guys don't know, Joni um was invited and went to the Paris Summer Olympics to work with the athletes there, and they brought home the bling. And I was just saying they should have given her an honorary gold medal, which they didn't.
SPEAKER_02Well, so this is I my first uh the first Olympics for swimming that I worked at was 2012. So 2012, 2016, yeah. So, and then you know you know what happened and we went to 21 and then 24, so been doing that for a while. But I'll tell you, this was the best because I actually was in Paris. I had to work remotely for the others, and because you know, I do a lot of work outside of that, so you know, the work didn't stop. But this time it was um definitely something I wanted to do and could do, and um it was incredible. And I and you know, feel free anyone that comes to the conference. I I haven't really talked about it a lot at any presentations or anything, but um, I can tell you some of the fun things um behind the scenes there. There's a lot of politics when you work with big organizations, of course, you know, like um you're working with your clients, and then there's USA Swimming, and there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people wouldn't think about um in terms of how we can be helpful. You know, you think about you know, everyone thinks you go to work with pressure and you know, and anxiety and focus and motivation. Well, everyone's pretty motivated at at this level, but um but I'll tell you, there are just a lot of other other types of issues. And um, fortunately, I I knew about those, and so I was ready, but it gets pretty intense, and um, you know, it you have to work on yourself not to have put the pressure on yourself to make things happen or not happen. And so it's um as glamorous as it sounds, I was exhausted when I came home because of all the problems and um fires, so to speak. I'll say that in your your language to put out. Um, and I was very happy that we have four years this time. Now we're down to two, but honestly, I yeah, required a lot of recovery time after that that glamorous experience. But go, you know, there was red a red carpet. I've got a video of my husband and I being, you know, brought in on red carpet to our fabulous seats, and uh awesome. We had a whole like setup of food and you know, beverages that we could just go and we we could be indoors or outdoors. So there, you know, there was the good, there was a lot of good. Um but I'll tell you, it's a job, a work is work.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. But did you look at him and say, Okay, yeah, the red carpet right here. This is my doing.
SPEAKER_02So he knows.
SPEAKER_00I'm sure he does.
SPEAKER_02But you know, he's such a huge part of that, and I think you know, all for all of us, because we are game changers and we're hypnotherapists, and we're you know, we're healers, so to speak. We help people heal and change. I think the people behind the scenes are so important.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, yeah, yeah. I know I couldn't do half of what I do if I didn't have the the team that I have behind me. Um, even though you guys are always so used to seeing my shining uh face. Um, and you I know you're thinking like you could use a filter, a very heavy filter, Dan. Um, but I have a great team behind me. So and I'm very happy with that.
SPEAKER_02We were not thinking that until you said it, but you know, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Now that you mention it, Dan. Um I know I I can't help it. I'm Scottish, we're just naturally self-deprecating. Um that's just all there is to it. So, but anyways, um, we're very happy to have Joni Knighty being our keynote speaker for the conference and having her here on the Monday report to talk about it. Want to thank you for being here, Joni. So yeah, and we're gonna be moving on to the next segment and just having all kinds of fun. So we're gonna say goodbye to Joni and see her in September wearing the hat to introduce you.
SPEAKER_02Yes, sounds perfect. All right, bye-bye.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so guys, we are still here. Um so what's coming up for the hypno world news? What's happening in the world of hypnosis on the next segment? Where are we gonna be? We are going to be coming up next. We are gonna be, I'm gonna put that over there where it belongs. So we are going to be at the Canadian Hypnosis Conference happening 2026 in Toronto, covering all the action there. So looking forward to being out there again. Uh, Barb is running a great conference, and yeah, we're really looking forward to being out there and uh checking it out right after that. We will be at the Performing Hypnosis Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Gold Coast. Grant Saunders, uh Captain Sean Kostiak uh putting that on out there in Las Vegas. That is the only hypnosis conference for stage hypnotists, I think anywhere in the world. Um, so we're gonna be out there. I believe we're actually gonna have the full set out there covering all the action from the summit and doing interviews and just talking with people and checking out everything happening at the summit. So uh that is where we are going to be. Hypno World magazine is going to be moving all year this year from event to event, checking out what's happening in the world of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. So hope everybody is happy, healthy, and safe. And as always, hey, um, you know what? I will see you guys out there. Peace.
