Good afternoon, everyone. Dan Goethe, your host here at the Monday Report with Frank T-Rex, my good buddy, as always, manning the studio with me. We are starting the broadcast a little bit early, so if you're watching on Facebook, that countdown will go away. So let's make sure that we are broadcasting everywhere else we're supposed to be broadcasting at. So, and it looks as though we are so that we can be live in all the places we're supposed to be live in. And let me just save that real quick like because it doesn't look like we're live on our website, but I just fixed that. So we should now be live on our website. And we are indeed live on the website. We are live on our YouTube page. Okay, guys, we're broadcasting. It's amazing. I can't believe it. But today we have with us a very special guest, somebody I met years ago. I can't remember what conference it was, but it was great. She is a coach, a speaker, an author, a clinical hypnotherapist, and now conference tier. That's my own word. So without any further ado, we're gonna bring on board the amazing and always awesome Connie Joe Holmes. So good day, Connie. How are you? You're a conference tier now. I I came up with that word.
SPEAKER_00I loved it. I love it.
SPEAKER_01Um, so thank you for that new title. I always appreciate that. So, no, everything is going well in my world. Thank you so much.
SPEAKER_02So excellent. Yeah, we I know we had some schedule changes. Um, and but that's that's the fun of doing a live to stream podcast um and to make sure that you're broadcasting all the places. Matter of fact, it happened to me just the other day. Somebody asked me to be on their podcast, and that no matter how hard we tried to get me on there, just tech their technology would not work for them. So it became kind of kind of a uh an uh I don't want to say an omen, but I did chuckle because you're just like, all right, we're doing it our best. So, anyways, how's the weather there?
SPEAKER_01Uh rainy right now. So I think we're supposed to get some wicked storms this evening, and I'm in southern Wisconsin, so we shall see. How about you?
SPEAKER_02It is 72 degrees here, uh, and I am pretty happy about that because I will tell you why. The last couple of weeks, um it has been about 99 to 100 degrees here in Michigan, and yeah, that that in itself is not normal for Michigan. And you know, my my AC died, so I didn't replace it. So I've just been making, yeah, I've just been making do my electric bill will be better, but I've been I've I was I was just like, oh, this is just terrible.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's some modern day conveniences that are a must, right? My air actually went out in my vehicle, and so I had to get more freon put into that. So remember the day I'm totally dating myself, but remember the day where you could just buy a can of freon and you could just do it yourself. Well, yeah, on it more. Now it's a good two two to three hundred bucks to uh recharge or whatever the freon in your vehicle, but it's worth it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it it is, but yeah, the the little cap thing that it isn't there anymore. You could just unscrew it, put it, it would shoot it in there, you were good to go, and screw it back on. Um, can't do that anymore. So I know, and you just finished with the client, so we we know that. Um that's that's gotta be tough. I will say this with everything that you do, you're still I still squeeze in the occasional client, but I don't see nearly as many um at all. So kudos to you for still getting them in there.
SPEAKER_01No, I still um I still get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I see clients three days a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and then Thursday and Friday, Thursday. I pretty much allow to work on my business, you know, behind the scenes and stuff. And then in the summer Friday, I take off to play. Um, and some days are just you know, the summer, it's always interesting how it shakes out because a couple of weeks ago I was pretty slow, but you know, today I've got a loaded, you know, I've got five clients kind of back to back today. So um wow. So it's interesting how it shakes out sometimes.
SPEAKER_02So yeah. Um, and oh, somebody sent us a chat. Hey, there's Sean Kostiak, the captain. Good morning, Sean Kostiak. Yeah, another conference tier right there. So I know, so let's get into it, man. The podcast conference, the Midwest Podcast Conference. Um, so and that is gotta be cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it's brand new, and uh it was not my brainchild, it was my friend, Amanda Torres. She had a uh an idea on a Friday morning, and she reached out to me immediately because she said I would either talk her out of it or I would say, Well, hell yeah, we're gonna do it together. And so, of course, I said, Hell yeah, we're gonna do it together. So it's going to be on Saturday, August 8th, here in Janesville, Wisconsin. So it's a good central location for the Midwest. Yeah. Uh, we're only 90 minutes from Chicago, we're 45 minutes from Madison, uh, we're four and a half hours from uh the Twin Cities, uh, six hours from Detroit. I remember from when I drove to the conference. So it's a pretty good location. And uh it's gonna be an all-day event. And we're standing on the uh, how do I want to say this? Like the structure, I guess, of our podcast conference is going to be following the three S's. And so the first one is how to solidify your foundation. It's your opportunity to just am I using the right stuff I want to use? You know, who's my audience, my niche, you know, just really solidifying your foundation. And then from there, we are going to go into how you can stand out from the crowd. As you know, there's a lot of podcasts out there, but that's okay because it's not your voice, it's not your idea, your perspective. But also from a communication end, how is it that you can stand out in the crowd? And then the third S is to solidify, or I'm sorry, to scale your podcast and whatever that looks for you. You know, for me, I have a YouTube channel. Quite honestly, a podcast is relatively new for me, but I've had a podcast channel for a long time. And I use my podcast channel mainly for two reasons. One, well, three reasons. One is street cred, whatever that might mean. Um, the second one is it's a resource that I can point my students to as well as my clients. Like, hey, I did a video on the reticular activating system. Go check this out, it'll give you more information. Um, so I do it for that, and then the other one is it is a client attraction. And so for me, that's what I mean by scaling my business. But you know, as you know, some people um, you know, they get uh sponsorships and different things like that through it. So so we're standing on those three S's, and then because when those three S's are done right, it leads to the three I's which is your impact, your influence, and your income.
SPEAKER_02So, which is cool. Uh um, I like the last one, uh, because mostly Heather, as you know, doesn't let me do anything without you know, you know. So um she's like, right, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_01She's a smart, patient woman.
SPEAKER_02She is like you're charging for that, right? Um like, yeah, I'm charging for it. Um you're absolutely right though. It's like right now, this podcast is actually broadcasting live on my website at the newsroom. So I'm using that to you know let people know about the magazine. And I just put the link up there uh for the Midwest. Uh I almost said hypnosis podcast. Wow. Uh Midwest Podcast Conference.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_01And thank you for putting that out there. I know that we have a lot of uh hypnotherapist colleagues that have podcasts or they're interested in creating a podcast, and so um, you know, so again, I think it's a really good location. We're very fortunate here in Janesville that we have a performing arts center, so that's where we're going to be holding the conference. So it's a really great space. Um, and yeah, so it just kind of lends itself to what we're doing as well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I checked it out, it's got a beautiful stage, it's got you know, it's in a nice central area, so um, and any chance I get to walk back into a theater, I'm pretty cool about that. You know, being an old theater guy, I never was cast in a single production, I was always backstage, you know. They're just like, Yeah, you got a voice, you've got a face for radio, Dan. Just stay back there. Well, we'll put you back there, buddy. You take charge of stuff. Um, but yeah, and I remember the Canadian Hypnosis Conference one year I went was held in a similar venue.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was kind of like they they were gonna be at a hotel and something happened, and then we wound up in the uh theater, so it was kind of cool. And yeah, so now is this gonna be an everything year or everything year? All right. I know it's hey Mark.
SPEAKER_01Um hey Mark, how are you? Uh yes, it's going to be an annual conference, most definitely. And and every year it's going to be, you know, we're gonna change up the theme a little bit. But one thing that Amanda, the co-host and I have been talking about is so I've been talking about how I'm using YouTube, you know, to grow my business and things like that, and now my podcast. But also, we've been talking about it from a legacy point. I do when I was very actively like weekly putting up new videos on my YouTube channel, periodically I would sit there and think, Oh, I wonder what it's going to feel like for my children and grandchildren to, you know, one day have this to go back to. Um, right? So you know, it can definitely be thought of as a legacy piece. And I don't know if you remember this or not, Dan, but that keynote presentation I gave a couple of years ago at your conference, the Michigan conference, it was all about legacy and and like thinking about living your life as your legacy. And maybe that's something that you don't think about until after you cross 50 years old, I don't 50 years of age, I don't know. But uh, but legacy is something that is always on my mind. And if you think about it, a podcast, a YouTube channel, and I know those are two different things, but yet I am using them interchangeably because you can also um post your podcast to your YouTube channel, but you know, one that has such longevity to it, and it's just such a great tool for people to you know always have your message if that's what you want.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, um, I do remember that. Um, the the the the the legacy, you know, that you gave at the conference because everybody liked it, and then I remember you kind of saying, So you're gonna have a legacy, right, Dan? And I'm like, Well, I have a leg. Um she picks on me. Um, but yeah, you're absolutely right. Because I was actually just watching a comedian, you said that and it popped into my head. It's like, you know, he's just was saying, you know, like, do you have any idea how horrific it's gonna be? The the old people that are coming at us. It's like, you know, now it's like, what's this, grandma? That's a picture of your grandfather next to Charles Lindenberg. And I'm like, what's this, grandma? That's a picture of my breakfast.
SPEAKER_00Right. Right.
SPEAKER_02So when you're leaving something um profound behind, and you know, something like that, it it just is it's great because you're they'll be able to go in and watch. It's like, hey, here's she gave this advice, she gave that advice, she helped this person. Um, so it's just an amazing tool. Sounds interesting. Mark says it sounds interesting. So come on, Mark, it's amazing.
SPEAKER_01Well, I do know, and not that a podcast has to be about memorializing you or anything like that, but that to me, it's a side benefit of it. My father passed away um almost eight years ago now, and I remember his voice, but I think as the years go by, I'm not gonna fully remember what his voice sounded like. And so to me, if he had a podcast or or something, it would be so great. I would be listening to that all the time. And so to me, that's just a side benefit of it. But let me ask you, Dan, why why do you have a podcast?
SPEAKER_02Uh, I started this podcast. Oh man, it's been so many things now. Um, and you're gonna yell at me. All right. Way back, I when I was still in the big office before I started seeing everyone virtually, um, I just had the guys there from red line media. And I said, you know, I wanted to help them kind of grow. So I said, Yeah, I'm gonna do this podcast. I'll do it once a month, it'll be for fun. They can produce it and I'll pay them a little bit. And that's it became the Hypno Cafe podcast, because I always thought to myself when I was in the Navy, if you sat at a cafe long enough, you'd watch the world walk by. So it was just a smortgage board of stuff. Um, so yeah, I started it as that, and then as time went by, it became the Hypno Cafe magazine and then Hypno World magazine. Then I realized that the podcast wasn't being wasn't uh the magazine wasn't being informed by the podcast, the podcast was being informed by the magazine, and it became a tool to market the magazine and to market everything else. See, you're now I you're like, oh thank God he did something. Yeah, so uh when I when I started the podcast, I didn't have anything with it in my head, I just started it. Um, so yeah, but then it became a thing of dude, I can I can mark. I just went, dude, uh, you and I are both from the 80s. So um, yeah, so but yeah, that that was why I started that podcast was to yeah cover what's happening in the world of hypnosis. So Brian says Dan El Goyet, just say because got anything.
SPEAKER_01God said you need a podcast, Dan.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's and by yes, and by God he means Heather. Um funny.
SPEAKER_01So so isn't that interesting? Because so my co-host Amanda, she actually helps people get podcasts started because a lot of people think, and now you're a techie guy. I can suffer through tech, but I would rather shove my size nine foot up its rear, but um, but I muscle my way through somehow. But, anyways, but Amanda helps people actually get a podcast started, so that's why this conference is for people who either have a podcast already or are ready to go on it. Um, but again, our whole point of having this conference, well, you know, I mean, why do we go to hypnosis conferences, right? We we go to hypnosis conferences because the networking, meeting new people, having friends and meeting and making new friends, that's all great. But you know, we learn something new. And even if we've been in this industry for a hundred years, there is always something new to learn. And and just from a curiosity point, you know, for so many reasons. And so that's exactly why we wanted to do this with podcasting, because podcasting can be very lonely, especially if you don't have guests on your podcast, right? And so just to know, like, oh my gosh, other people are having the same issue or whatever, um, because we really want to create a community out of this, because I know I'm so blessed from being in this community that you because you were so kind, Dan. You you saw that this was going on, you reached out and said, Hey, do you want to talk about it on this? I wouldn't have this if I didn't have this community with you, and so we want to offer that for podcasters because it is so essential.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, yeah. And and I will put it on it's on my radar, it's on my calendar. Um, to if you guys keep doing this, I will definitely drive out there and be an attendee, or you know, I might even bring the whole full podcast set and just you know cover it in the magazine, whatever. But um, because why not, right? You know, it's it's five hours. If I can drive to Canada, I can drive to your con if you can drive to my conference, I can drive to your conference.
SPEAKER_01We have great cheese curds and brandy old fashions here.
SPEAKER_02So you know what? You just said that, and my buddy would go to Wisconsin all the time, and I'd be like, bring me back some cheese, right?
SPEAKER_00Right, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Good, sharp Wisconsin cheddar. Uh, so Sean Kostiak says, So, Brian, does that mean that God told me to save you and Jim from the tech hip on hypnosis heroes? Uh possibly. Um, you know what? And I think this is a conference that if she's there, it will be very beneficial for people that struggle with technology. Uh, so right now, oh, if you could see my desk, all the tech that's on it. Um, I'm actually using the quantum HDQ2 audio interface with auto leveling, all the good stuff. I've got the SM7 broadcaster, it's going up into my pot, all the good stuff. So when people look at it, they're like, dude, how do you, man, that's too much tech. Um, but you know what? It makes life easier. So, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Mark, for sharing. That's very kind of you.
SPEAKER_02Thank you, Mark. Share to my hypnosis group. Um, because you're right, a lot of people are very scared, they see the technology, they jump back.
SPEAKER_01So I'm gonna tell you, my um, so uh Amanda is really again great at helping people get it started. My first three episodes were audio only, and it was done on my phone, and I've got, I don't know, some app, whatever it is, but it's basic, whatever it's called here on my phone. Um, just a voice recorder. That's all it is. And so then I uploaded it on Podbean, and you know, Podbean, that's the one that I chose because Amanda recommended it to me, but it's great because I it automatically populates all you know, Spotify and Apple and iHeart and all that kind of stuff. So one click of the button, uh, which is great. It was so easy to do. Podbean is costing me under 20 bucks a month, and then but I do want to go video, and so I just I have one podcast video so far, and I just I recorded that on Riverside, and then it was so easy to edit within there and add some still images and things like that, and then I just uploaded that to well, I was able to, since it was Riverside, I was able to upload the audio and the video for for YouTube, and then I was able to strip out just the audio, and then I was able to upload that to Podbean. It was and if I could do it, and I know people say that all the time, but truly, if I can do anything techie, anybody can do it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh, I use I use Bruz Buzz Sprout for the same reason, and uh right now we're on Wave because it will actually let me download the audio and the the video separately, so I just upload my audio and now it costs me about $30 a month because both Apple and Spotify have that video component. So to send that video component over there, I I had to pay a little bit more uh for that. Um, but you know what I did because it it's and you hate to say it because you personally know Connie will tell you how much I love marketing, it is my favorite thing in the world. I love it.
SPEAKER_00Tell them right, oh, I'm right there with you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I still remember we were at the conference and somebody had asked me a question. I said, Well, uh yeah, hold on, I'll find an expert for you, and I could feel you looking at me like you know exactly the question. And I was like, So I answered it for her, but um that's where your coaching comes into, and then and you're gonna obviously roll this over into this conference. So, I mean, because coaching hypnotherapists, coaching people to start their podcast, right?
SPEAKER_01Right. Well, and definitely, you know, so Amanda and I we're smart business women, so we so we are bringing to people the podcast conference, plain and simple. Here you go. Pay 197 bucks, you got a full day full of all sorts of great information that you're going to be able to immediately walk away with in a plan. Plus having this community. So if you come just for that alone, that's fabulous. Um, you know, but yet Amanda does have the skill set for those people who are on the fence and want to start a cod, uh, start a podcast. She does have her business to help people with that. And then I do have a part of my business, which is called Lead Out Loud, to help people to get confident in that type of thing in front of the camera. And so that's something that I can upsell um if and when uh it's appropriate and it's necessary. So, but from a business part of bringing a conference, that was something that was thought of as well, just with full transparency. Um, but like I said, the conference in and of itself is going to be this full day chocked full of some great information for people. And then our MC that day, I actually think he's from Michigan. Um, Mike Austin, he's the host of uh Radio Dad.
SPEAKER_02Radio, yeah. You know what? I I think I was on Radio Dad, yeah, uh radio station, they did an interview. That sounds so familiar. Like I had done a they called me and I did an interview with them 100 years ago on the the radio. Um so yeah, he he if it's a who I think it is, yeah, definitely DJ. Um yeah, from Michigan. So that is awesome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so he's gonna be our MC, so we're really excited for that. And um, you know, and it's gonna be an well, and you know from doing the Michigan conference, because are you entering year four or five?
SPEAKER_02This is gonna be this is going to be our fifth year, um, which I didn't think we'd get through the first year, you know. So you you never do, you never do. And um, I will say this as your conference grows and gets goes forward, um, you know, don't be too concerned if your eye starts to twitch. That is a normal side effect of running a conference.
SPEAKER_01And you're telling me that from a medical end, too, right?
SPEAKER_02Don't be concerned. Um, so uh Grant Saunders was picking on me one day. He came around at the last Michigan conference last year, and he came out and walked up and he says, Oh, no, no, no, no. He goes, This isn't happening, everything is too calm, everything is going well, you know. He goes, and he walked away. He came back Saturday, my eye was twitching, so the computer wouldn't work. And he's like, This is how a conference goes.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, right, exactly. And I I think we're braced for that. Um, but my point of asking you how many years Michigan was is I I can imagine that every year you're adding more and more, doing things differently and stuff like that. And so we actually planned out year two to plan out year one, and so we already have a really good idea what year two is going to look like, but you know, as this gets, you know, because things take time, right? The traction and all of that, right? So this first one, even if you know, uh it doesn't quite reach our numbers of what we would love for registration and that type of thing, it's okay because we have to start somewhere. But then also the things that we do this year that are just fabulous. Obviously, we're gonna repeat, we're gonna add new things and that type of thing. We are gonna have vendor tables here this year, uh, and that's something we want to have every year. And you know, and even down the road, I can see, and I'm just using this as an example, but like, you know, Geek Squad or like whoever to be there, you know, to bring in all the tech and that type of thing, so that if somebody needs a new armed microphone or whatever, hey, it's right there. Um, you know, just things like that. So we don't have that right this year, but that's definitely something that we want to grow into, and that's perfectly fine.
SPEAKER_02Oh, absolutely. Um, you know, I uh I I I will just say don't be afraid to experiment or tweak. Um, like you know, this year we kind of experimented. It's like, is it gonna work? Is it not gonna work? And if it doesn't work one year, you well, okay. Um, we just don't do it again. So let's see what happens. But that was such a smart thing. I wish I would have thought of that when I started Michigan, was like plan year two to the do year one. Um, I didn't do that, so because yeah, um, it was just a a thing, really. And now I'm jealous. She planned, I'm gonna tell that to Grant. Like, yeah, you know, Connie planned year two to plan year one, and Grant's gonna go, I wish I would have thought of that. Sean, if you're watching, did you plan year two to plan year one of the summit? So, yeah. Um, but uh so what else? Good price for the conference. Um, is there a hotel or anything there that they're gonna be staying at, or are they just yes?
SPEAKER_01So we do have a number of hotels around the area. So um, you know, we're gonna share all that information, you know, with people once they register if they need it. You know, we've we've got kind of a decent amount of local people that don't need a hotel, but we do have people that are gonna be traveling in. Um, so we're sharing with them uh hotel options and things like that. Um, you know, I think for the lunch area, we're gonna just have a bunch of different food trucks and things like that in the parking lot just so that people can have variety and flexibility and things. Uh, we we are building out purposely some mixer time just because building that community is such a thing that or is is a very important thing for us. So we want to make sure that we are building in time for that so that people can uh I just know I with the conferences I go to, just meeting new people and just staying just deep friendships too, not just surface level friendships, but just deep friendships. So that is so very important.
SPEAKER_00Sean says, I fixed your one, so that was a year two. You guys, just so you know, I used to be a project manager, so if you guys need help, just reach out. I'm happy to offer some project.
SPEAKER_02They might need some bigger hammer. Um, yeah. So that that's our that's our plan for Michigan, too. Uh well, just hold my beer. Um that's all we know is like that, but you know what? That sounds fun. Getting back to the food trucks. You said that, and I thought to myself, oh, you know what? That sounds fun. It's like a fire. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's gonna be August, so you know, hopefully the weather is nice and that type of thing gives people some outdoor time and and all of that. And so one thing too, um, we do want to when people buy in for the conference, here's the conference, but then there is um we're we want to do a nighttime show. So the conference itself is scheduled from nine until five, but we want to have an evening show, and so with that evening show, what we're talking about doing is doing a live podcast on the Performing Arts Center stage so that people can, you know, be a part of it and and also witness what is going on and that type of thing. And so that is something that we're going to do to close out the evening as well. So uh, so then hopefully, people that you know, either those people that want to start a conference that haven't quite quite hit the go button yet, we can show them just how easy and natural it is. Like right now, this feels very easy and natural, you know, just speaking with you and that type of thing, but you create that stage for that. So thank you. Um, but the other thing we want to show them though, too, is just you know, maybe some new ideas and thoughts and and things. Another reason why we want to really hype up the community is so that people can do pod swaps too, you know, the guest swapping and that type of thing for those people that might be interested in doing that but haven't done it yet, and or who might want new people to interview and bring on their show.
SPEAKER_02So, yeah, that sounds that sounds fun. Um I and once again, this is like the Irish Hypnosis conference. Uh, I found out about it, you know, and I thought, oh man, if I had the time, I would run out there. But uh, I didn't go to any conferences this year. So I've been finishing projects here. So um I think the first one I'm going to is in Canada, and then I gotta go out to PHS uh because the guys have hit it with a bigger hammer, so I gotta see what happens there. Um, so that'll be my first time out of Michigan. Here is in October and January. Um, but I will say that I will be putting that uh the com your conference on there um for next year. Nora! Hi Nora! Hi, Nora. Yeah, she loves this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, with what's happening right now, just these lovely souls popping up and and putting in comments. To me, this is the epitome of what a community is. And you know, done right, it's so loving, it's genuine, it's authentic, it's it's just all of these things, and um, and again, we're so fortunate to have this in the hypnosis community and to have this in the podcasting community or any other area is just so vitally important, I think. So, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I I agree. So, okay, I think we're coming up on our time here, guys. I want to thank Connie for sharing this news about the Midwest Podcast Conference coming up in August. Their link is in the comments. I will be putting that up there on the page as well. Please go on over there, check it out, get your ticket, be there, and just go. That's all I have to say. So any anything that you want to say last, Connie.
