What is the difference between working together and acting out of self-interest? This is the business every hypnosis entrepreneur should consider

SPEAKER_00

Good morning, everyone. Dan go ahead, welcoming you to the Monday Report, along with my cohort, as always, Frank T-Rex, Manning the Studio, here with me. And we want to thank you for joining us here on the Monday Report. So we are going to go ahead and do our quick broadcasting check. As I see, we're broadcasting on YouTube and across on our website and across on our Facebook page. So we are broadcasting all the places we're supposed to be broadcasting. And as always, hey, this great broadcast is being brought to you by the North American Hypnotherapy Guild. There's the QR code. Check it out. Become a member of the North American Hypnotherapy Guild and look at all the great things that it has to offer. So that being said, we are live and ready. So this morning, as I have my cool cup of joe here with me, as always, in my Las Vegas cup that I got on Fremont Street whilst attending performing hypnosis summit last year in Las Vegas. Hmm. Oh. And as always, that's a good cup of joe. Okay, so let's get to it this morning. So, as an important announcement that we are making today, Hypno World magazine has become Hypnosis Today magazine effective immediately. Hypno World magazine will now operate under the name Hypnosis Today magazine. Uh, the name change follows a request from the organization Hypnosis World. The Hypnosis World organization, we were contacted by Rich Goosey, uh, who expressed concern that the similarity between the names could create confusion within the professional hypnosis community. Uh so after careful consideration, we have elected to make this change to provide greater distinction between the organizations and to support clarity within the field. Um, so and this name change right now, I'm gonna say this uh this name change is just that. Um, the name is changing. Our mission is not. This change represents a name change, not a rebranding uh or change in direction. So don't worry about that. Hypnosis today magazine will continue the work that Hypno World magazine has established to do the reporting on the people, organizations, and conferences, as well as education, research, development, and issues shaping the field of hypnosis. I do love a good cup of coffee. I probably should see a therapist about that. So that but I will say this our commitment remains to provide the hypnosis community uh with meaningful informative coverage of what is happening throughout the world of hypnosis, as hypnosis magazine today will continue to approach our coverage with integrity, honesty, accuracy, and professional independence. So don't have to worry about that. Uh, we believe, and I do believe this, I we believe, I believe, as well as Heather and everyone involved in Hypnosis Today magazine, uh, believe that our responsibility to the industry is an important one, uh the role to play in bringing practitioners, educators, researchers, organizations, conferences, uh, producers, and other professionals together. Our goal is to provide a platform that recognizes the diversity of the perspectives within the hypnosis while developments. Continuing, excuse me, while continuing to report on the developments that matter to the field and matter to you. Um so continuing to cover the world of hypnosis. Readers can expect Hypnosis Today magazine to continue covering uh the full spectrum of the hypnosis community. And again, hey, you know what? That includes professional and clinical hypnosis, that includes hypnotherapy education, uh, that includes training, research, development in hypnosis techniques, professional organizations, stage hypnosis, and all other associations, such as, as we've stated, we're going to be continuing to talk about those conferences, we're going to be continuing to talk about workshops and educational events and practitioners, educationers, presenters, developments within the hypnosis profession. And this is our mission statement, and has been our mission statement as we even cover new ideas, techniques, and perspectives, I almost couldn't say perspectives in the field. So that's our responsibility. And we're going to continue to do this with integrity of the publication and to the community that we serve. So that is the announcement that while the name HypnoWorld Magazine is now changing, the commitment that we've always had and continue to have of behind the scenes, right, stays behind this publication and remains the same. Hypnosis magazine today represents a new name for an ongoing mission to inform, connect, report on the world of hypnosis with that integrity and as much honesty as I can muster. I'm kidding. We're going to be doing that with honesty. Um, so we appreciate the continued support of our readers, our contributors, advertisers, presenters, organizations, and the many professionals out there who have helped make this publication part of the broader community. As we continue our mission of independent coverage of the world of hypnosis. So, yeah, that is our announcement for the day. Um, and we hope that you guys are able to continue. So that is our announcement on that. So Ralph Banks says, How um how might I communicate with you? So um you can reach us at North American Hypnotherapy Guild at gmail dot com, Ralph. So if you need to get a hold of me. So on to the next thing that we're gonna be talking about today. Um so if I can get my thoughts together, we're gonna be talking about this. And I'm just gonna make a quick correction here. But rest assured uh that what we're talking about today is um just as important. So welcome. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Um what are we talking about today? So we're gonna be talking about the future. Uh so welcome that, right? Um collaboration or competition. That's what we're talking about within this particular segment of the uh of the show. So um, yeah, sorry about that. So collaboration or competition, a business question for entrepreneurs in the field of hypnosis and hypnotherapy that has been ongoing. So when when you're building a business um in hypnosis, that's an important question. Is it better to look out for your own interest, to look out for number one, or is it better for your interest to collaborate with others? Uh, the answer may be a little bit of both. So that is kind of where we're at with that. So perhaps the future of hypnosis might be changing. As entrepreneurs, we absolutely have to protect our business. Uh, we need to protect our uh uh income, our intellectual property. Uh, we need to um protect our brands and the relationships that we have worked to build. So those kind of become important. But there's a difference between, I'm gonna say this, there's a difference between protecting your interests and believing that everyone else has to lose uh for you to win. So oh hey, Ralph Banks says I am a regular communist journalism for the Journal of Hypnotism Hypnotism, and just written a book about Charles Dickens. I was an enthusiastic hypnotist who used mesmerium in writing, performing the Christmas Carol. So, oh, we'll throw that up there. So, yeah, that is very interesting, Ralph. Um, I did not know that. So that is uniquely interesting on that end of it. So, but getting back to what we were talking about, which was collaboration. So, is it better to look out for your own interests as we talked about this, right? The answer may be both, maybe both. Um, we but as entrepreneurs, we absolutely have to do that. We have to look after our brands and our income and our revenue, but we don't have to crush everyone around us to do that. As I say, there's a difference between protecting um your interests and believing that everyone else has to lose for you to win. Uh, business research. Business research consistently shows that strategic partnerships and networks and collaborations uh can help small businesses, entrepreneurs access new markets and resources and give you those opportunities that you might not otherwise get or be able to develop. And I believe this has an enormous potential. I will say this all honesty for those of you who know me. Um, I was not anyone that collaborated with anyone for almost most of my time working in the field of hypnosis and hypnotherapy as a medical clinical hypnotherapist, uh, starting Holton Lake Hypnosis Therapy Studios, and then the Michigan Hypnotherapy Guild, and then now we're the culminating in the North American Hypnotherapy Guild. Um I will say that if I had the contacts and connections and network that I have now, when I first started in the field of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, I think I would be uh vastly, vastly better off in my career. Um, not that I'm terribly off in my career, but uh I think I would have reached milestones sooner than I did. So that's just being said. Uh and let's think about that in the the world of hypnosis or in the hypno hypnosis world or the field of hypnosis as we think about it, right? Um, we can have practitioners, educators, conferences, organizations, uh professionals, uh publishers, authors, stage hypnotists, researchers, and trainers. And many of us do compete for attention, attendees, students, and customers. Um, but we don't have to compete over everything. We don't, we don't, we don't, we don't. Uh we can compete where we're different and collaborate where our interests uh align come together. And I know this because I've been doing it, and not only has it worked, it has helped uh myself and others that I've collaborated with to reach those milestones and to find those opportunities. So, yeah, I mean, a conference can promote another conference, a trainer can recommend another trainer, a practitioner can refer a client to another practitioner when that is a better fit for the client. I've done that, so um, that becomes something extraordinarily important. So, as we say, the the answer may actually be um a little bit of both, and organizations can work together on education professional development. Uh, myself and Sean Kostiak, SK Hypnosis, we have collaborated on uh several things in the educational world and continue to do so. Uh, even though we have separate educational interests, we do work together. Um, as a matter of fact, he was integral in helping me to create the textbook for uh an educational uh trainings that I'm going to be launching down the road. So we worked on that together, and I was happy to have Sean helping me with that and giving those suggestions and creating that so much so um that it made a positive difference, uh absolutely in having that because Sean is a great guy. If you know Sean, the Captain Kostiak, uh, one of the uh hosts of Hypnosis Heroes, Hypno News, and uh one of the uh co-coordinators for the Performing Hypnosis Summit, um, just a great guy. So a big shout out to Sean there. Um, but even with the collaboration, it doesn't mean giving away your business. Um, you can still protect your intellectual property, and you can still protect your brand. Um at no time has anyone tried to steal my logo or uh steal uh anything from me. But even though I do have those that logo uh trademarked and uh so on and so forth, protecting it, um it's not a it's not a bad thing to do so. I will say that it's not a bad thing to to trademark your logo, it's not a bad thing to trademark the name of your office or uh your technique or anything like that because why you spent the time to build it and to create it and to make it work, so there's nothing nefarious, I think, about protecting it. Um even with that, you can still uh you can still negotiate fair financial agreements between you and another company, between you and another uh practitioner, especially if it's helping both of you. So the the key the key here, the key is asking a different question. Uh, it it's it's not what's in it for me, as so many, so many have asked, what's in it for me? Um instead, ask what's in it for me, and what's in it for them? How can we help each other grow? Uh Jim Kellner rested soul had a great saying, your success is my success. If you're successful, I'm successful in the field of hypnosis. So, and I still believe that. So, and this creates the possibility of relationships where everyone has a reason to participate, and over time, those relationships can become tremendous business assets, they really can. Um, because your reputation matters, my reputation matters to me. Uh, I hope people find me to be honest and uh having integrity and just hopefully that I have a good reputation out there because I've I think I've worked hard for that, as have we all. Uh, there are those out there that don't have a good reputation and they don't seem to mind, but I mind and others mind, right? So, and if people are willing to help today, become people who create opportunities tomorrow, then you've you've done some good because you've done some good for both of you. So perhaps the future of hypnosis uh business isn't about uh choosing between collaboration and competition. Maybe it's about learning to do both and collaborate where you can, compete where you must, uh, protect your business, protect your brand, uh, but don't be afraid to help build the profession around you. And I know that I've got a meeting coming up with some people that I've been collaborating with here, and we're going to be talking about just that. So I'm very excited about that. So, because sometimes the strongest competitive advantage isn't being the person who keeps everyone else out or tries to push everyone else down or tries to um take every dollar. Uh it's being the person who connects everyone together. So that becomes just, I think, an amazing thing. And it is, I think, um a great thing to do. So we've been talking about collaboration, we've been talking about uh the name change. So I do want to give uh some quick shout-outs coming up. Let me see. Um make sure that we're covering things here. So the Michigan International Hypnosis Conference, upcoming September 11th through the 13th. We are just about on top of it. There is still time to get your ticket to attend the conference. Uh, great keynote speaker, Joni Johnson Knighty, great closing keynote speaker, uh Michael Brody, both people that you want to come and check out and see. And breakfast is on the conference, so don't worry about that, as well as dinner. We have a great awards banquet. So that is happening here in September. Also, make sure that you check out upcoming um the performing hypnosis summit is going to be happening January 23rd, I want to say. Um, so there's the QR code. Check it out. Get your tickets. I think speaker applications are now closed, but also um the magazine is going to be in Canada at the Canadian Hypnosis Conference 2026, October 23rd, 25th, 20s in 2026, Toronto at the Best Western Plus. So, hey, connect, learn, grow. Great conference. Uh, I was out there last year and had a wonderful, wonderful time. I'm looking forward to seeing my good buddy uh Pierre and Richard Cole, of course. I will be out there seeing those guys, grabbing a pint with them, as you will. Shameless plug. And then, as I said, the Performing Hypnosis Summit, we will be out there covering all the action at the Performing Hypnosis Summit 2027 at the Gold Coast Casino in Las Vegas, Nevadia. So be ready for that. If you haven't got your tickets for that yet, do so. Um, I know that the Grant Saunders and Sean Kostiak are working on the schedule for that right now. I believe these speaker presentations are closed. Don't quote me on that, but I think they are. Um, it's August, and they're in January. That's a good cup of Joe. But so that is the Monday report, guys. I am happy to be here with you today and look forward to um many more Monday reports. But until then, hey, I hope you guys are happy, healthy, safe, and I'll see you out there.
