I am your host, shane, and for order for us to truly step into our greatest potential, we need to come out of hiding. So in this show, we're going to talk about how do we step out into our truest potential, creating a life that actually resonates with meaning and breaking free from our daily grind. So today we're going to dive deep into a powerful topic from surviving to thriving.
Speaker 1:Now, I know there's many men out there that feel they're stuck in survival mode. Life feels like a constant race. It's just work, obligations, bills and responsibilities and, before you know it, you're just going through the motions. But here's the thing there's a huge difference between surviving and actually thriving. So in today's episode, we're going to explore how to shift from merely getting by to living with true purpose, passion and fulfillment. We're going to talk about how to identify your core values, your passions and your goals, and how to align your life with them to create a richer, more meaningful existence. Now, this isn't just about making it through each day. This is about building a life that excites you, a life that fills you with energy, a life where you wake up each day with a sense of purpose. So if you're ready to move from just surviving into truly thriving, let's dive in.
Speaker 1:The first thing, let's take a moment to recognize what it actually means to be just surviving. Now, we've all been there, haven't we? We wake up, we're going through the motions and maybe we're feeling a little sense of emptiness or dissatisfaction, but not quite sure how to break free from it. Life actually becomes like a series of obligations instead of opportunities. It's as if you're just going through the motions without any real sense of passion or purpose. So how do you know if you're surviving and not thriving?
Speaker 1:Well, here's some key signs that I've come up with that I think can help you to get more clear if you are just surviving or thriving. You're feeling constant burnout. You feel drained. More often than not, it's hard to get excited about anything and you're just trying to get through the week. Another one is a lack of clarity. You're not sure what you truly want from life. It feels like you're working hard but not really moving towards anything meaningful. Another one is you might feel really disconnected. You feel disconnected from your deeper self, your values or even the people around you. If any of these resonate with you, don't worry, you are not alone. I'm telling you myself, and I have talked with countless other men. Many men are experiencing this. But here's some good news it's possible to turn this around.
Speaker 1:You don't have to stay in survival mode. On the other hand, thriving means being fully engaged with life. It means living with intention, having a deep sense of purpose and aligning your actions with your core values. It's about waking up every day excited to live your truth and create something meaningful in the world. So how do we go from survival to thrive? Well, the first step is to get clear on what truly matters to you Now, your core values and your passions. These are the guiding lights that will help you create a life full of purpose.
Speaker 1:So here's some couple of questions. Let me ask you a question what's the one thing that, when you think about it, excites you? What makes you come alive? Is it creativity? Is it building connection? Is it growth, freedom, adventure? Often we can lose touch with our passions because life gets busy and we focus too much on external obligations family, work, responsibility but to thrive, you need to reconnect with what drives you at your core. Now here's a simple exercise to get started Sit down, take a moment, moment and reflect on your values.
Speaker 1:Think about moments in your life when you felt truly fulfilled. What were you doing at those moments? Who were you with? How did you feel? Now write down your values and your passions and ask yourself what lights me up inside? What do I care about deeply? What do I want to contribute to the world? Once you identify those core values, you have the foundation for your life's mission. But that's not all for your life's mission. But that's not all. Once you've identified your core values and passions, it's time to set clear, intentional goals that align with them. This is where the magic starts to happen.
Speaker 1:Thriving isn't about random success or just working harder. It's about aligning your actions with your deepest desires and purpose. You can start by asking yourself what do I want to create in my life? Now? Think about it, not just in the next year or five years, but in the next decade. Do you want a career that feels fulfilling, not just financially rewarding? Do you want deeper connections with your family and friends. Do you want to give back to community or start a meaningful project?
Speaker 1:Here's a powerful framework that I've used. It's called the SMART goals method. A lot of you probably have heard of it before. It's simple, but it works. So let's break down SMART goals method. A lot of you probably have heard of it before. It's simple, but it works. So let's break down SMART, which stands for Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and Time-bound.
Speaker 1:So first let's talk about specific. Your goal needs to be crystal clear. The more specific you are, the easier it is to take focused action. For example, instead of saying I want to get in shape, try this, I will work out three times a week for 30 minutes at the gym, focusing on strength training and cardio. That's specific. You know exactly what you're going to do. Specific you know exactly what you're going to do, when and where. It's not about just vague ideas. It's about actionable plan.
Speaker 1:Next, let's talk about measurable. You want to be able to track your progress. If you can measure your success, you'll stay motivated and know when you've reached your goal. Take the same example I want to work out three times out of the week for 30 minutes at the gym and I will track my progress with a fitness app. Now you can measure your workouts, track how much weight you've been lifting, or even see your cardio performance improve. This makes it easier to celebrate wins along the way.
Speaker 1:Now the A achievable this means it should be realistic given your current resources and time. If you set a goal that's too far out of reach, you might get discouraged before even beginning. For example, instead of saying I will lose 30 pounds in a month or a more achievable goal would be I will lose one or two pounds per week over the next three months by making healthier food choices and working out regularly. Next up, relevant your goal should matter to you. It should align with your values and your broader life objectives. If you're someone who values health and longevity, a goal like I will stop smoking by the end of the year could be incredibly relevant. Or maybe your goal is to improve work-life balance is to improve work-life balance, so you might say I will reduce my work hours to 45 per week to make more time for family. When your goal is relevant, it feels purposeful and you're more likely to stay committed.
Speaker 1:And now the T. Let's talk about time bound. Every goal needs a deadline. Without one, there's no urgency and it's easy to put it off indefinitely. Let's say you have a financial goal. Instead of saying I will save money, say I will save $5,000 by the end of the year, putting aside $500 every month. By setting a specific timeframe, you create a sense of urgency and accountability which keeps you on track. This method can keep you focused. It can keep you organized and moving in a direction of your dreams.
Speaker 1:Now let's talk about the daily habits that will keep you on track and make sure you're thriving, not just surviving. We all have routines, but are those routines setting us up for success or are they keeping us stuck? Success doesn't happen by accident. Stuck Success doesn't happen by accident. It's about creating rituals and habits that nurture your physical, emotional and mental well-being. Start by establishing a morning routine that sets a positive tone for the day. This could be a quick meditation session, journaling your thoughts, a gratitude practice or a short workout. Now, when you start your day intentionally, you're actually giving yourself the best chance to thrive Throughout your day. Incorporate moments of reflection and recalibration. Ask yourself regularly am I living in alignment with my values? Am I moving closer to my goals? And at night, have a wind down ritual that helps you reflect on the day, let go of any tension and prepare to rest. A great night's sleep is so essential for your well-being and it's crucial for staying energized and motivated.
Speaker 1:Thriving is actually a journey. It's not a destination. We never truly arrive, and that's the beauty of it. Life is about a constant growth and evolution. As you pursue your goals, you'll face obstacles, guaranteed You'll make mistakes and sometimes you'll feel like giving up, but it's in those moments that you learn the most about yourself and the world around you. Don't be afraid of change or uncertainty. Afraid of change or uncertainty. In fact, welcome it. The more you lean into growth and embrace challenges, the more you evolve into the best versions of yourself. Remember, thriving isn't about perfection, it's about progress. It's about living intentionally and being in alignment with your deeper purpose.
