Welcome to the Programming Alliance Podcast. Today we have Jarrett LeMaster joining us. He is an actor, a comedian, a pastor, and we're going to talk about his recent film The Homestead, which we got to see and it was great. We're going to also talk about his recurring roles in The Babylon Bee and much more. So let's get going. Yeah.
Jarret_LeMaster-Matt-webcam-00h_00m_00s_374ms-StreamYard:Thank you guys so much for having me on. I really appreciate it. Yeah, it's a pleasure. This is cool. And we're excited to talk about, you've got a lot going on. Yeah. And we've we've seen some of your work and so we want to talk about that. But maybe we start with this film you've got homestead is in theaters. It's coming out. And maybe you could just. Tell us more about it, how to see it, what it's about, and how you got involved with it. That would be great. So, Homestead is in theaters this weekend, December 20th. This is the opening day, actually, today. And so, yeah, we're in theaters. It is a story, it's a post apocalyptic story. And what happens is, and I'll tell you this quick story so you guys can follow, so you guys know what happens. A nuclear bomb goes off, off the coast of San Pedro. Where's that? It's in California, right outside of Los Angeles. And so, it knocks out all the power grid, the energy goes away, and for the rest of the country becomes too expensive, so energy goes down. The power supply and the supply chain goes down and so people can't get food or water. So what happens is they have to almost start over and the only people really that survive are people that are really prepared for it. So they have like a bunch of food and they have sustainable food and they have gardening and they do all that stuff like, and they call that a homestead. Huh. Where they have animals and they have people working together and it's all sustainable. Huh. So the only people that survive are these people that have homesteads And my character Is a guy named rick Who has a family? And he did not plan for this. Oh, really? Yeah. Okay. Now it makes sense I'm, not that I am not the guy that planned for the for the end of the world huh, so i'm making it up as I go like that's what happens my family i'm trying to get my family to safety I'm, super desperate And it's like crazy So you like join in the trailer, there's like this group. Yeah. Right, so you join this group, right? Yeah, so I try to join the group. I'm outside, I don't know if you remember the trailer, but I'm like knocking on the fence and I'm like, My family's out here starving. Did you see that part? Yep. Yeah. Yeah, that's me. That was me the whole time. Very good acting skills. Yeah. And then like, there's people trying to rob you. Yeah, there's, yeah, that's right. Yeah, people, there's robbers, there's bad guys, there's all kinds of stuff. Yeah. And you just never know what's going to happen because it's not just a movie, it's a television series. And so it's like, a television series is great because movies are short, right? You have to tell a full story in like two hours. But if you have a TV series, you can, you can basically have this huge, this, all these stories you can tell in the world that you create. Yeah. And so that's the great part about it. I can't wait to see where, where the show goes. So does that mean, so the movie is like the first? Basically and then yeah, it's gonna build off of that. That's exactly right. Yeah Do you live through the fist episode That is a great question and chances are I do but we'll figure you'll have to watch So I'm like probably if there's a word for like eight I'm the octogenary. Yeah. No, I don't actually know. I think that's an official term. Yeah. The octogenary. No, but I'm like, I'm probably, I have a really significant character arc. It's a lot of fun. Huh. And so I get to actually have conflict and danger and I have a family and we have a history and I solve problems and there's stuff that I do. Yeah. That I'm honestly never gotten a chance to do in any other feature film like this, so I'm very excited to do it. It's awesome. Awesome. I spend a lot of time doing comedy, so. Yeah, we'll get into that too, but yeah. Do you feel like this whole thing is like, not far from reality kind of? Like this might happen? Yeah, what do you think? Well, I don't know, that's why I asked you. Will's been actually studying Will's been studying how to make a nuclear bomb, actually. Oh, really? Well, I'm interested in how things work. I do not want to make it, and that would be pretty bad. But it's interesting in how it works. Yeah, it is interesting. You made it in a game. Kind of like learning how to harness its energy, kind of. That's what I'm more interested in. You want to harness the energy of the atom. And use it for good because as spider man's uncle once said with great power comes great responsibility All right guys, come on. Come on. I think that's the lesson for the day In homestead, I don't know we we talked to a stuntman the other day on our podcast and so from a stunt perspective Did you have any stunts? Did you have to do your own like? Anything weird, you know, you know jumping and fighting and things like I didn't have to do a whole lot, but I did do There was a scene that didn't end up in the show. It didn't end up getting caught, but I had to tussle with a guy when we were scattering some food or whatever. I was wrestling with this guy, and it was it was great. We had a good time. Okay. And it was so fun, and it just didn't make it because it was so far back. It was like a big crowd of people, and then I was like fighting with this dude, and it just kind of got lost in the melee. Okay. But it was fun, man. I got to use some of my jiu jitsu, which was fun. I liked doing jiu jitsu, so. Sounds pretty fun. Yeah, it was good. It was a lot of fun, man. Wow. Yeah, so I, so to answer your earlier question, I do think that it's possible that something like this could happen. You know, obviously it's possible. I think we sort of live in a thin We live, we live in this sort of like, I don't know, it seems like civilization isn't all that stable and it has been so far, but it's really only by the grace of God kind of that things hold together. And so at some point, yeah, something like that could happen. And so what we want people to do is go out and be prepared, you know, so like the homestead, go get some food, you know, make sure you have water filters, make sure Stuff has already kind of happened like that, like World War II and stuff. Some places, but it's pretty close, probably. It is crazy and it's not I I don't I'm not afraid of it I feel like I don't I don't I think there's a really small percentage chance. It's gonna really happen Yeah, but like, you know like in Europe say you were in Europe in World War two survival was the thing and most people really didn't survive So like that's the that's they've run these scenarios and most people don't survive Yeah, that's where you got to kind of think about your eternity as well Like not just here. You gotta think about what's next cause this life is temporary anyway, isn't it where like the main character always survives, but like, this second, like, main character and then the ones back always die? Yeah, so you're talking generally about, it's called the red shirt concept. Like in, in Star I haven't heard this term before in movies. No, it's awesome. Oh, okay. Well, it's Star Trek, so like in television series, the, the, the original Star Trek. Do you guys ever hear that? So there's like a story. Where this, this crew gets on a ship called the USS Enterprise. Yep. And they go all over the galaxy looking at new galaxies and, you know, Our bold new adventure to go and you know, where no man has gone before and they discover all this stuff. So they would always go out onto the planets and inevitably one of the guys that you'd never heard of dies, right? Like, so like, but Captain Kirk was always fine. And so, and another inevitability was the fact that every time a person died, they were wearing a red shirt because it was always like an ensign. And in that universe, it was the ensigns, the lowest rank had red shirts. And then as you go up, you change colors. Like, in the hierarchy, so. Anyway, the red shirts would always die. It's like, ah, I'm a red shirt, you know. Dead gummit. Careful if they give you a red shirt on set. So you're saying then that most likely in like the second or third movie you're probably going to be dead? Yeah, so I don't know, like, that's the theory. Hopefully not. We want to keep, we want to keep watching Jared. So hopefully he'll be well into the TV series. I hope so too. What's so this, this is put out by Angel Studios. We're subscribers to Angel Angel Studios. A lot of great films. And maybe tell us a little bit more about like Angel Productions and their Mission and yeah, so they want to they want to what is it? They want to tell stories that bring light to the world, right? So like that's what the Harmon's kind of came up with and I like those guys a ton. The Harmon's are great guys Jordan Neil all those guys Daniel and I do voices for the Tuttle twins as well. Oh you do I do So I don't you guys watch the Tuttle twins But I'm the, I'm the mayor and I'm, you know, George Washington. And, and so I work with those guys there. And and so it's one of those things where they're doing really good work, trying to make content. That's really excellent quality, but it also doesn't like have all of these really bad messages or bad content that's going to make it so you guys can't watch it. Yeah, cuz I'm not gonna I'm not letting my kids watch anything be like bad Even if it's a great action superhero movie if it has bad messaging in it, and woke philosophy I'm not gonna let my kids watch it. Marvel's a good example like the last like after Endgame it was just yeah Like there's no good Marvel movies anymore. I don't know Yes, it's a it's a total dumpster fire. Yeah, Star Wars has gone I mean, that's, that's You know, it's just like random things that Yeah, weird, anyway. No, you're right. I think all that, that's the problem. And I think Angel is a response to all of that craziness, right? Like, nobody even saw the last Star Wars iteration. I didn't watch the one with Jude Law, and nobody or the Acolyte or whatever that other one was. Nobody saw those because we all knew that it was just going to be like Neo Marxist propaganda, like we knew this. A rip off. It's a rip off, man. It is. It's a rip off. It's too bad, because Star Wars, like, the idea is so good, but I know. Well, it's great to see They should have just done the original, and then once they were done with the whole thing and stopped making movies, they should just stop. I agree with you. Think of something else, right? Come up with something new. And like, that's basically everything that people do. Like, they either make, they either take an original person, and either make it a different race or a different sex. Like, have you seen Madame Web or something? Yeah, whatever it is. That was not good. We thought it would be good. Yeah. Oh, the Marvels. It's all girls, dude. Yeah, it's all girls, dude. Listen, I'm okay with girl heroes. I like girl superheroes as long as it's legit. Yeah. And it's not like This is my thing about girl superheroes there as long as they're like they have weaknesses and they're interesting Characters like I'm good. But if you watch something like miss more I like to just Marvel Captain Marvel She didn't have any relationships. She didn't have any weaknesses. Nobody cares Yeah, you gotta have some kind of like something to lose not much depth to the character versus like I feel like the first Wonder Woman was pretty decent, then the second one kind of got weird, but, you know, like I've never actually seen Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman 1's cool. Yeah, the first one, I wish you guys had seen it. Yeah, the first one when he, like, went for, like, the training and all that. Dude, I love that one. Wonder Woman with Chris Pine. Mm hmm. Yeah, the one with Chris Pine in it the music's good. Yeah. Well, okay, so we're, we like what Angel Studios is doing, and I'm glad you guys have If Gotten some traction. It seems to be taking off. It seems like I've seen commercials for it all over and everything So it's just great to see the success of that Something else that we wanted to ask you about we've seen you play a couple recognizable characters, one is Satan The complete flip of that is woke Jesus That's right. Or is it a flip? Oh, maybe. Wait, you were the Satan guy on, like, the Wait, was it Instagram? Yeah, it's the Babylon Bee We watched it, remember? He comes up to the microphone and he's talking about the loss that they had in the election. we should have won that, guys. What's it like putting on all that makeup? I cannot imagine. Like, I think, I'm pretty sure the Satan, you have horns, right? I got horns, too. Did they just glue it to your head? They glue them on my head. It takes like an hour and a half, dude. That's insane. I have to sit there, they spray on my abs. Which is awesome. I gotta be honest. You wanted to keep those? It's legit the best part. I want that guy to follow me around when I go to the beach. Yeah. But it was great, man. Like, it was so fun playing the devil. Cause what, how funny is it to have the devil just be like a normal guy? Yeah. He sits down and he's just like, me? It's so funny. You know what I mean? Like, it's like. I did not expect this from you. Like, you know, like, and he's like hemming and hawing. He's like, guys, you know, I'm just, I'm so bummed. I don't know what to do. Yeah. It's so funny. It is. So funny. It's really good. I have, like, a shirt with, like, saying, like, Cole Harris and I did have that one. Yeah. Did they, like, Drinking Bud Light. Yeah. Did you, like, did you ask for it? Did you ask if you could play for it, or did the Was it your idea? Did you come up with all the lines for it? No, so, I did not. Well, for Kamala Harris I wrote it and Kyle punched it up and made it really funny. Okay. So that one, that Kamala Harris sketch I wrote, But the previous ones are written by, like, Kyle. Okay. And so, like, and then I have a lot of, we have, I have a, we have really good writers at the B. Yeah. So I often don't have to write. Okay. And so, I try to a little bit and every once in a while I'll get something good, but, yeah. Because the woke Jesus is hilarious, too. You, you take these, like, biblical references and you twist them into this, yeah, I mean, it's, it's pretty clever. Like, political stuff? It's pretty clever. So funny, dude. Well on woke, Jesus. It's just when you take Jesus and what the woke people say that he said Yes. What they, they think he thinks. Yeah. Like, and then you actually have him say those things. it shows how ridiculous their theology is. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's what's crazy about it. It's, it's maybe worth noting now you were a pastor. Yeah. And, and for a long time. And so. He's got a lot of background in Christianity and preaching and the Bible. But we've had a couple of other people that we've talked about woke, woke Jesus. And yeah, there's this, there's this person over there. I wrote a book about woke Jesus. Yeah. Lucas Miles. Yes. Lucas. He sponsored our sketch. Actually. I got him to sponsor our sketch. Yeah. Like back when we made that. Yeah. Yeah. And so we, we talked about this with him a little bit and I'd love your take on it, but it does. Jesus seemed like more and more people are using Jesus to defend the bad ideas. Like, oh, Jesus loved everybody. Well, I'm like, yeah, but like he also told people when they were living a life, you know, outside of their guide, of the Lord's guidance. Right. So like, how do you take that? And what's your response to people that use Jesus as a, like an excuse to be Degenerate That's a good word, I like the word degenerate I think it's a guy we need to bring it back more such a degenerate Look at these degenerates. No, you guys aren't degenerates at all. Yeah, I think when people utilize religion when they use Jesus to justify sin You know, that's like the I mean, it's It's like apostasy, know, like it's, it's, it's the sin of Balaam. It's the sin of Balak, you know, like it's, it's what I mean, all the apostles write against it. So like in the new Testament, yeah, there's like a clear, there's a clear understanding of what is moral and what's not moral and what the Gentiles are required of, like required to do. And when people break those things, then Paul comes in and he's like, Hey, stop doing this. Stop doing that. Yeah. And you that's teaching people to do that stuff. You should, you know, run, you run out of town on the rail. So like, they get really harsh with those guys. So there's this, like, the New Testament's pretty, pretty brutal with guys that use Jesus or the teaching you know, the New Testament to justify bad stuff. It's pretty mean. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. Anyway, that's where I get. And I get kind of mad about it, honestly. When people take Jesus and they try to justify their own life or socialism or whatever. Right. Right. He would have worn three masks. When Moses, when Moshe, came down, he came down the mountain, and he had the ten commandments, one of them was don't take the Lord's name in vain. And when you use God to justify bad ideas, or to tell people to do bad things. You are, you are doing that. Yeah. I think God hates that stuff. Yeah. That's what I think. I don't think he likes it at all. Let, let me ask you something else because you are in comedy and film and Comedy. Sometimes mockery can be flattery, it can also be like, Just mockery? Just mockery. So, I'd love to hear your thoughts about, mockery of the left or liberals or liberal ideas and ideology and how we can use that appropriately To get our point across and how maybe you've used that in your career is it useful? Yeah Well, I think a lot of, sometimes Christians, and you guys are Christians, I, sometimes Christians have a hard time with satire, because it's mean, or it seems mean, and so they are like, well that can't be the message, we have to be loving to everybody, and, and I kind of think like, you know, Jesus used it a lot, as a tool, to kind of correct, like the Pharisees, who were really self righteous they really thought they were righteous, Good. Apart from God. They thought they were actually morally good. And Jesus was saying, Nah, you're not. You're not good. You need me. You're a sinner. And so anyway, so he used satire to describe him. He's like, you guys are whitewashed tombs. You know, back then everyone, the people, I know slam solid burn Jesus. And like, or like, he would have said something like, You're a brood of vipers, you know. Yeah. And like, Whitewash Toons is crazy. He's like, you're alive on the outside, but on the inside, you're dead. You know, you're the blind leading the blind. Like, these are phrases that would have been like, Probably hilarious, the hearers would have been like, Oh! You know? Right? And so he was using satire to really mess with the Pharisees and to challenge them, to show them for what they were. And that's what I think, and he used it as a tool, it's a type of communication. We can use that same type of communication in our dealings with like philosophy, theology, culture, all that. Yeah. So, we can still be funny, and it isn't always like super mean either, we really are just trying to get people to laugh. Yeah. And so, if we get people to laugh, then maybe they'll change their mind. You've made a lot of people laugh, but we try to do a little bit of that on our channel. Have you guys seen the ugly sweater with Santa's face on it? Yeah. But it's not Santa, it's actually Karl Marx with a hat. And like it says, redistribute the presents. It's like so funny, and that's, that's, that's good satire, you know? Like because it's taking, and this is how he would have done it, like a jerk. Redistribute, redistribute the presents. Anyway, what do you think is with this? I feel there's this like, Energy behind marxist ideologies largely coming up through colleges and maybe even late high school kids They're all I don't know in my opinion. They're all like intelligent reading books smoking doobies and talking about marx Thinking that this is like the way of the future for the united states like nobody's ever thought of it Yeah, and they're like we just haven't done it right yet and It's wild to me because we engage with some of these people in our comments and they're I don't know, it worries me that there's a trend, but hopefully with young men like this understanding better that we can buck that trend. Yeah, I think so. No, no, not at all. We spoke with somebody who got out of communism earlier today and it sounds really horrible. It's terrible. She walked uphill to school both ways, hour and a half, had to pick seeds and plant stuff and like that. Like never had a toy or a tv and it sounded just Like terrible you couldn't even imagine this kind of life, right? Yeah, so I mean, yeah Well, I think marxism is sort of a satanic ideology it is yeah and so I think it has to do it's a it's an Envious ideology it has to do with taking what other people have for you and it's a small mentality because it There are things that it's like there's limited resources and So if you make wealth and you're stealing it from someone else, and all that stuff's nonsense. It really is, and it, and it creates, like you said, this idea of you have to handicap people that are successful to bring them down so that they're with everybody else. And then that just really stifles society, innovation, ingenuity, and it, it seems like a downward spiral of society, which it's proven to be every time it's been tried. Totally. But let's do this. Let's wrap, wrap up. But I want to ask before we fully wrap, what's next on Jared's like plan or roadmap, what do you got coming up? Yeah. So we're doing a lot of stuff, the Babylon B has a lot coming down the pike and I'm very excited about that stuff. I can't really talk about it yet. We're going to be doing a heck of a lot more sketch comedy this year. There's a lot of stuff coming out. Satan, Jesus, more of that can tease that stuff out. And then Homestead, the series is coming. Yeah. That's, I mean, that's a lot on a plate. Yeah. And I feel it's, we'll see how the movie does in the theaters. I'm very excited. I want people to go see it. I think it's really good. Yeah. And I think you guys would really like it. I think it's going to be cool. I really want to see it. Well, we'll definitely go see it. After what you told us, it seems interesting. Yeah. Great. Anything zombie apocalypse, like I love zombie apocalypse. Yeah. Except for like alien or predator and stuff. But Other than that, everything else is pretty cool. I like Zombie Apocalypse too. Alright man, thanks so much for coming on the show. We appreciate it. And best of luck to you on Homestead and everything. We'll plug it into the description so people can check it out. And we hope you do. Oh, and follow me on X if you guys can. Wait, do you have a YouTube channel? I, well, The Babylon Bee. Yeah, see ya. What's your activity? Jarrett underscore Lemaster. Okay. That's all. It's just the blue check, Jarrett Lemaster. All right. We'll tag it in the check it out, you guys. All right. Thank you guys for having me on. This was awesome. Awesome.
