Ep #67 - Do Parents Deserve Respect Without Earning It?
““Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”
~ Exodus 20:12 ESV
Guess who’s back? Back again…Our token AmeriCAN has returned! Join us this episode as Neil comes back after a couple month hiatus off doing American things, whatever that means, and he helps the fellas kick off their new ‘Ethical Series.’ That is, over the next few weeks, the boys are going to break down the ‘horizontal’ commandments (commandment 5-10) that have to do with our relationship to each other, and really try to analyse the structure, the reasons why they’re a commandment, and whether they’re relevant today or not.
Everybody knows how hard it is to Honour your parents when they’re doing a good job! How much more when there’s any forms of abuse. Or neglect. Or even just non existent.
But why would God COMMAND us to Honour our parents knowing all this? In fact, why would He ask us to HONOUR them and not specifically mention to LOVE them? Does Honouring your parents even have any effect on the world around you? And why is this the “only Commandment with a promise”?
All these questions and more are what’s expected this episode as the boys sit down and launch the first episode of the new “Ethical Series”.
