And my somatic practices and awareness have helped"},{"startTime":238.908,"endTime":242.572,"body":"me really refine that throughout my life. Releasing expectation, but setting an"},{"startTime":253.936,"endTime":257.656,"body":"intention. So I wanted to set an intention and say, based"},{"startTime":257.728,"endTime":261.272,"body":"on your audience, Brittany, what is the"},{"startTime":261.296,"endTime":265.112,"body":"message that's going to serve everybody's highest good? Like, what is the"},{"startTime":265.136,"endTime":268.584,"body":"thing? And I loved the card when I pulled it in, so I shared it"},{"startTime":268.592,"endTime":272.106,"body":"with Brittany immediately when we got on. It doesn't matter where you are, who you are, when you're"},{"startTime":453.198,"endTime":456.91,"body":"hearing this, it's really important to get back to who you are and what your"},{"startTime":456.95,"endTime":460.512,"body":"vision is for your life and what's important to you and what you're passionate about."},{"startTime":460.686,"endTime":463.868,"body":"And sometimes it can take us a while to get back there. Maybe you're 60"},{"startTime":463.924,"endTime":466.764,"body":"something years old and you're hearing this and it's taken you this long to get"},{"startTime":466.772,"endTime":469.948,"body":"back there. Maybe you're, I don't know, like 20 and you're hearing this and you're"},{"startTime":469.964,"endTime":473.404,"body":"in college and who knows what's going on? So that"},{"startTime":473.492,"endTime":477.004,"body":"card completely ties into the original purpose"},{"startTime":477.052,"endTime":480.668,"body":"for why I created this podcast. I love that. Right"},{"startTime":480.724,"endTime":484.508,"body":"it's like someone new. I know I. And I tell people, a lot of"},{"startTime":484.564,"endTime":488.262,"body":"people who have come into my world, they're like, newer to"},{"startTime":488.286,"endTime":491.254,"body":"all of this. And I really have woven my indigenous"},{"startTime":491.302,"endTime":494.998,"body":"ancestry into everything that I do because I think it"},{"startTime":495.054,"endTime":498.502,"body":"roots us back to that place, to the great web of"},{"startTime":498.526,"endTime":502.07,"body":"life. And so it's just most people,"},{"startTime":502.19,"endTime":505.814,"body":"they don't have this as their daily practice. Right. And this has"},{"startTime":505.902,"endTime":509.494,"body":"become my daily practice in the way I've created these shifts in my life."},{"startTime":509.582,"endTime":513.428,"body":"And so now I'm beginning to share that with others because we're three"},{"startTime":513.484,"endTime":517.236,"body":"fives in human design, so we are meant to have our own lived"},{"startTime":517.268,"endTime":520.708,"body":"experience first and lead others through"},{"startTime":520.764,"endTime":524.18,"body":"that. And so most people, they've never experienced this"},{"startTime":524.22,"endTime":527.828,"body":"before, and they're like, oh, my gosh."},{"startTime":527.924,"endTime":531.572,"body":"The way the messages will weave through our entire"},{"startTime":531.636,"endTime":535.38,"body":"time together is so beautiful. And I say the"},{"startTime":535.42,"endTime":539.252,"body":"body is the same way, because the body is always going to bring"},{"startTime":539.276,"endTime":542.986,"body":"up in the presence of the moment, exactly what"},{"startTime":543.058,"endTime":546.906,"body":"is needed for our awareness and for us to continue"},{"startTime":546.978,"endTime":550.506,"body":"to move through. Oh, totally. And with my massage therapy"},{"startTime":550.538,"endTime":554.314,"body":"background, like, that couldn't even be more true. I treated some clients"},{"startTime":554.362,"endTime":557.61,"body":"for, like, 10 years, and they would come see me monthly or every other month,"},{"startTime":557.65,"endTime":561.482,"body":"like, with some regularity, and it never mattered. Like, every time they came"},{"startTime":561.506,"endTime":565.146,"body":"in, they may have thought they wanted the exact same type of massage or parts"},{"startTime":565.178,"endTime":567.882,"body":"worked on or whatever. And it's like, well, how are you doing today? What's going"},{"startTime":567.906,"endTime":571.256,"body":"on today? Because every time was something a little bit different."},{"startTime":571.418,"endTime":575.132,"body":"Absolutely. I love that. So you have not always been"},{"startTime":575.236,"endTime":578.812,"body":"a somatic practitioner. What did you do in your previous life?"},{"startTime":578.996,"endTime":582.812,"body":"Yeah, so I remember when I was going to go to"},{"startTime":582.836,"endTime":586.46,"body":"college, I was like, what am I going to major in? My sister"},{"startTime":586.54,"endTime":589.76,"body":"was in business and majored in marketing."},{"startTime":590.1,"endTime":593.724,"body":"And I remember her telling"},{"startTime":593.772,"endTime":597.452,"body":"me, you know, you just love people. You should just do, like,"},{"startTime":597.476,"endTime":601.232,"body":"communication. We're very opposite people. And she was the one"},{"startTime":601.256,"endTime":604.912,"body":"that kind of like, planted that seed of communication. Because I originally"},{"startTime":604.976,"endTime":608.768,"body":"said that I wanted to do dance. And at the time,"},{"startTime":608.824,"endTime":612.432,"body":"my father, who, you know, they're protective of us. And"},{"startTime":612.616,"endTime":615.632,"body":"my dad was a very more in the mind, logical"},{"startTime":615.696,"endTime":619.392,"body":"thinker that he was like, okay, Alex, but what are you going to do"},{"startTime":619.416,"endTime":623.04,"body":"when your body falls apart? And so he"},{"startTime":623.08,"endTime":626.69,"body":"was always like, yes, and have a backup plan."},{"startTime":626.8,"endTime":630.51,"body":"Yeah. So I majored in communication, and I actually. I love"},{"startTime":630.55,"endTime":634.286,"body":"speaking, I love meeting people, I love to write. And so I felt"},{"startTime":634.318,"endTime":637.806,"body":"like that world kind of blended things. I was passionate about"},{"startTime":637.958,"endTime":641.502,"body":"a creative person is the thing I've Identified"},{"startTime":641.646,"endTime":645.182,"body":"as throughout my entire life, which is why I"},{"startTime":645.206,"endTime":648.974,"body":"wanted the word creative to be in my business. And it's really cool,"},{"startTime":649.022,"endTime":652.694,"body":"actually, in the way that that has evolved in my business."},{"startTime":652.822,"endTime":656.598,"body":"But when I look at the core of what I've been trying"},{"startTime":656.654,"endTime":660.262,"body":"to do with my business, that's always been there. So I majored in"},{"startTime":660.286,"endTime":663.798,"body":"communication with an emphasis in interpersonal and"},{"startTime":663.854,"endTime":667.67,"body":"cultural communication. And then I got to minor in dance"},{"startTime":667.75,"endTime":671.446,"body":"education. And in my dance minor is"},{"startTime":671.518,"endTime":675.254,"body":"actually when I was introduced to"},{"startTime":675.342,"endTime":678.952,"body":"somatic therapy as a form of movement"},{"startTime":679.086,"endTime":682.516,"body":"therapy. And so this was a really unique"},{"startTime":682.548,"endTime":686.18,"body":"opportunity. My professor at the time was going through the"},{"startTime":686.22,"endTime":689.78,"body":"extensive somatic program that I'm actually now doing my"},{"startTime":689.82,"endTime":693.46,"body":"certification in. So that's really cool. And so she"},{"startTime":693.5,"endTime":697.124,"body":"was needing, you know, her practicum, and so she"},{"startTime":697.212,"endTime":700.98,"body":"offered this independent study. And so me and a."},{"startTime":701.02,"endTime":704.694,"body":"And a friend in the dance program, we joined her. And this"},{"startTime":704.852,"endTime":708.61,"body":"opportunity came at such a pivotal moment in my"},{"startTime":708.65,"endTime":712.498,"body":"Life. I was 19 at the time. It was just the start"},{"startTime":712.634,"endTime":716.45,"body":"of my sophomore year of college, and my dad was"},{"startTime":716.49,"endTime":719.986,"body":"diagnosed with a really aggressive form of brain cancer."},{"startTime":720.178,"endTime":723.89,"body":"And before I knew it, he was gone within the year."},{"startTime":724.01,"endTime":727.682,"body":"My dad was my rock. And I was just like, but I'm still a"},{"startTime":727.706,"endTime":731.548,"body":"kid, I still need my parents. How am I going to,"},{"startTime":731.604,"endTime":735.356,"body":"like, continue my life? But my mom"},{"startTime":735.428,"endTime":738.94,"body":"lost her dad at a very young age at the age of eight."},{"startTime":739.06,"endTime":742.892,"body":"And I watched growing up what that did to my"},{"startTime":742.916,"endTime":746.108,"body":"grandmother and how she always kind of carried this"},{"startTime":746.244,"endTime":749.996,"body":"resentment and bitterness about that she never met anyone"},{"startTime":750.028,"endTime":753.564,"body":"else again. She was like, he was my love. And. And she raised three children"},{"startTime":753.652,"endTime":757.452,"body":"on her own from a very young age. And my mom was"},{"startTime":757.476,"endTime":761.052,"body":"the oldest at 8, and her two brothers were younger. That's a long time to,"},{"startTime":761.076,"endTime":764.732,"body":"like, do life by yourself. And so when my dad died so young, I"},{"startTime":764.756,"endTime":768.38,"body":"just knew, I can't get bitter. I can't let this, like,"},{"startTime":768.42,"endTime":771.932,"body":"steal my joy. And what I didn't realize at the"},{"startTime":771.956,"endTime":775.804,"body":"time was that this somatic practice that I had access"},{"startTime":775.892,"endTime":779.116,"body":"to, I was processing my grief in real time"},{"startTime":779.188,"endTime":782.908,"body":"because we would meet every day and there was"},{"startTime":782.964,"endTime":786.65,"body":"like, as you know, there's like, integration work you have to do when you start"},{"startTime":786.69,"endTime":789.786,"body":"to do this. And so people always"},{"startTime":789.858,"endTime":793.258,"body":"wondered how I kept going after my dad's death."},{"startTime":793.394,"endTime":796.826,"body":"And I, in hindsight, now know"},{"startTime":796.978,"endTime":800.394,"body":"it was these somatic practices that really"},{"startTime":800.562,"endTime":804.122,"body":"got me through that time. And so fast forward,"},{"startTime":804.226,"endTime":808.042,"body":"you know, I graduate in 2007, and I'm like, okay, well,"},{"startTime":808.066,"endTime":811.668,"body":"what did my dad always taught me based on masculinity"},{"startTime":811.764,"endTime":815.492,"body":"and based on the Western World like you go to college. I"},{"startTime":815.516,"endTime":819.252,"body":"was very fortunate. My parents helped me through college. Getting that"},{"startTime":819.276,"endTime":822.9,"body":"degree was really important to them. My dad was the first generation"},{"startTime":822.98,"endTime":826.308,"body":"to get a college degree and that was what he wanted for us"},{"startTime":826.364,"endTime":830.116,"body":"girls. It was actually her senior year in college, the semester"},{"startTime":830.148,"endTime":833.652,"body":"he got sick. And so it was like,"},{"startTime":833.676,"endTime":837.124,"body":"okay, I've done the thing. So I got a corporate job"},{"startTime":837.212,"endTime":840.774,"body":"in training and development. And in that"},{"startTime":840.862,"endTime":844.406,"body":"time I realized, like, I get to be with people. My favorite"},{"startTime":844.438,"endTime":847.958,"body":"thing, get to be with people, build relationships, right? So I did"},{"startTime":848.014,"endTime":851.702,"body":"corporate training and development melded into. I worked with a team of"},{"startTime":851.726,"endTime":855.574,"body":"creatives. And it was so cool because I got to go out"},{"startTime":855.662,"endTime":859.49,"body":"and see every single process of a business."},{"startTime":859.87,"endTime":863.51,"body":"And I have always been a systems thinker. And so I"},{"startTime":863.55,"endTime":866.99,"body":"did that in the business world and then"},{"startTime":867.37,"endTime":871.106,"body":"I do that with the body. The body is very much about"},{"startTime":871.178,"endTime":874.69,"body":"the systems thinking not only of our internal systems,"},{"startTime":874.77,"endTime":878.53,"body":"but the ones that we have externally. And so I"},{"startTime":878.57,"endTime":882.402,"body":"did the corporate, you know, song and dance for 12 years. And"},{"startTime":882.506,"endTime":886.338,"body":"I was starting to kind of burn out. I knew I needed a place"},{"startTime":886.474,"endTime":889.89,"body":"where my creativity could thrive more. I was feeling a little bit"},{"startTime":890.01,"endTime":893.702,"body":"caged in, a little frustrated. And around that time I"},{"startTime":893.726,"endTime":897.542,"body":"ended up pregnant with our second child, who ended up being a"},{"startTime":897.566,"endTime":901.11,"body":"girl. I have an older son and a daughter. That was the only one that I was connected to. And then instantly just like woke up to"},{"startTime":2186.266,"endTime":2188.434,"body":"it. I couldn't Even tell you what it was, but it was just like, boom,"},{"startTime":2188.482,"endTime":2192.316,"body":"one day I was like, oh, wait, I've had everybody else's back. I've been cool"},{"startTime":2192.348,"endTime":2195.532,"body":"for everybody else, but I haven't had my own back. And so for me, that"},{"startTime":2195.556,"endTime":2199.292,"body":"was like the big shift in transition into this world.
