I think, you know, five years ago, 10 years ago, you really"},{"startTime":355.604,"endTime":358.892,"body":"didn't see that much of that at all. There's, like, this website where you can"},{"startTime":358.916,"endTime":362.284,"body":"go and look at snapshots of the Internet. It, like, preserves it. You might have"},{"startTime":362.292,"endTime":364.972,"body":"heard of it, but, like, you can see what websites looked like back in the"},{"startTime":364.996,"endTime":368.808,"body":"day. And LinkedIn, when it started, was very sterile."},{"startTime":368.904,"endTime":371.56,"body":"It was very much what a lot of people think it still is. But it"},{"startTime":371.6,"endTime":375.272,"body":"has changed in the 22 years that it has existed. And,"},{"startTime":375.296,"endTime":378.856,"body":"yes, it came out before MySpace. It came out"},{"startTime":378.928,"endTime":382.552,"body":"2002, I want to say is when it came out. So when"},{"startTime":382.576,"endTime":386.136,"body":"anything's Been around that long, it's going to evolve, you know? So,"},{"startTime":386.208,"endTime":389.608,"body":"yes, you can share fun stories on LinkedIn. I will say it is"},{"startTime":389.664,"endTime":393.136,"body":"helpful to connect those stories back to your"},{"startTime":393.208,"endTime":396.992,"body":"mission in some way, to your business mission, to your personal mission, to your"},{"startTime":397.016,"endTime":400.704,"body":"nonprofit's mission. And I think it can be really easy to do that"},{"startTime":400.792,"endTime":404.208,"body":"when we identify that, like, we're not just doing this work"},{"startTime":404.264,"endTime":408.0,"body":"to make a buck, we're not just doing this work to have"},{"startTime":408.04,"endTime":411.84,"body":"something to do. Like, there's usually some deeper why behind our work. And I think"},{"startTime":411.88,"endTime":415.68,"body":"really rooting into that can help the stories just begin to emerge."},{"startTime":415.84,"endTime":419.52,"body":"Yeah, it really can. Like, as you're talking, I'm just getting, like, stories or points"},{"startTime":419.56,"endTime":423.322,"body":"of connection, and I've seen you do that so beautifully, and I want to"},{"startTime":423.346,"endTime":426.842,"body":"do that on LinkedIn. I think sometimes I kind of hit on it or, like,"},{"startTime":426.866,"endTime":430.058,"body":"I'm close to it. Almost, like with archery, I may not be hitting the bullseye,"},{"startTime":430.074,"endTime":431.99,"body":"but I'm like a circle outside of it."},{"startTime":433.73,"endTime":437.162,"body":"But for anyone else who may feel like that, how hard is it to end"},{"startTime":437.186,"endTime":440.874,"body":"up hitting the bullseye with storytelling on LinkedIn? Um,"},{"startTime":440.922,"endTime":444.122,"body":"that's a good question. I think it takes practice. And just like you asked me"},{"startTime":444.146,"endTime":447.538,"body":"a question earlier that there's no right or wrong answer to,"},{"startTime":447.674,"endTime":451.106,"body":"I think about this in the same way. Like, I do think that if you're"},{"startTime":451.138,"endTime":454.834,"body":"showing up with heart, I think if you're showing up with a intention"},{"startTime":454.962,"endTime":458.802,"body":"to reach other people in a way that's, like, helpful and valuable, I"},{"startTime":458.826,"endTime":462.018,"body":"think if you're showing up in a way that's, like, curious and celebratory of your"},{"startTime":462.074,"endTime":465.682,"body":"own experience, I don't think you can get it wrong. Like, I"},{"startTime":465.706,"endTime":469.154,"body":"don't. Like, I think sometimes, yeah, like, you might not have, like, a killer hook"},{"startTime":469.202,"endTime":472.85,"body":"or whatever, but I do believe that as you begin to show up and,"},{"startTime":472.89,"endTime":476.31,"body":"like, share your experiences with folks in a way that's very giving,"},{"startTime":476.61,"endTime":480.122,"body":"the right people will begin to emerge. I think people will see your heart. And"},{"startTime":480.146,"endTime":483.994,"body":"I'd say that because when I first started sharing my stories on LinkedIn, it was"},{"startTime":484.002,"endTime":487.802,"body":"before I was a consultant. I was working for a nonprofit, and we"},{"startTime":487.826,"endTime":491.53,"body":"were a small organization. But I was like, there's so much cool stuff happening here"},{"startTime":491.57,"endTime":495.13,"body":"all the time. And we did tell stories through, you know,"},{"startTime":495.17,"endTime":498.89,"body":"our annual report and stuff like that, but those were kind of like the"},{"startTime":498.93,"endTime":502.772,"body":"big, glossy, polished stories. And I was like,"},{"startTime":502.906,"endTime":506.672,"body":"there's cool stuff happening here everywhere I look. And so I was like,"},{"startTime":506.696,"endTime":510.032,"body":"what if I just shared some of these things on LinkedIn? Like, you know, the"},{"startTime":510.056,"endTime":513.808,"body":"story of the board member getting re involved 30 years"},{"startTime":513.864,"endTime":517.712,"body":"after they graduated from our program as like a young person or you"},{"startTime":517.736,"endTime":521.008,"body":"know, just stuff everywhere. Of course, with permission, I'm not gonna share these stories without"},{"startTime":521.064,"endTime":524.656,"body":"their involvement and you know, that kind of stuff. And then personally"},{"startTime":524.688,"endTime":528.384,"body":"too, like my work at the organization and sharing vulnerable"},{"startTime":528.432,"endTime":532.042,"body":"things, I. I shared about my imposter syndrome. I shared about what it was like"},{"startTime":532.066,"endTime":535.642,"body":"to be a young woman of color leader at the time in a"},{"startTime":535.666,"endTime":539.322,"body":"very sort of like geographic area and field that was very like"},{"startTime":539.346,"endTime":543.082,"body":"white dominant. I shared about all kinds of things that were just real. And"},{"startTime":543.186,"endTime":546.97,"body":"sharing them on LinkedIn for me was much easier actually than sharing them"},{"startTime":547.01,"endTime":550.746,"body":"sometimes in person, in a group, because I was just like, I'm just gonna"},{"startTime":550.778,"endTime":553.962,"body":"write this story and put it out into the world. And I knew like in"},{"startTime":553.986,"endTime":556.474,"body":"my mind that other people were gonna see it and connect with it. But in"},{"startTime":556.482,"endTime":560.332,"body":"the beginning that felt more safe to me than actually just like"},{"startTime":560.436,"endTime":564.252,"body":"sharing this willy nilly out in the world. So, you know, in"},{"startTime":564.276,"endTime":567.772,"body":"the beginning it kind of felt like I was just talking into the void. But"},{"startTime":567.796,"endTime":570.924,"body":"that was okay because a big part of it for me was about like self"},{"startTime":570.972,"endTime":574.812,"body":"expression, self actualization. And then over time, you know,"},{"startTime":574.836,"endTime":578.428,"body":"people did begin to take notice. And I discovered that not because of any"},{"startTime":578.484,"endTime":582.124,"body":"like going viral experience or my follower"},{"startTime":582.172,"endTime":585.292,"body":"count didn't explode or anything like that, but people would come up to me when"},{"startTime":585.316,"endTime":588.808,"body":"they saw me and start a conversation with me based"},{"startTime":588.864,"endTime":592.152,"body":"on something that I said on LinkedIn. And that was what really showed me like,"},{"startTime":592.176,"endTime":595.576,"body":"oh, people are paying attention, people are listening. Even if they never respond"},{"startTime":595.688,"endTime":599.16,"body":"or say anything on the platform, they are taking"},{"startTime":599.2,"endTime":602.696,"body":"notice and they are building trust and connection with me"},{"startTime":602.848,"endTime":606.6,"body":"kind of at scale. You know, people felt like they knew me and would act"},{"startTime":606.64,"endTime":610.328,"body":"accordingly. We were able to like recruit additional resources for"},{"startTime":610.384,"endTime":613.914,"body":"the organization I worked for. Just as a result of them knowing,"},{"startTime":613.962,"endTime":617.578,"body":"liking and trusting me through my stories on LinkedIn. That is really"},{"startTime":617.634,"endTime":621.434,"body":"cool. I'm wondering if it was that LinkedIn did feel like"},{"startTime":621.442,"endTime":625.242,"body":"a smaller, less active container versus like Facebook or Instagram or"},{"startTime":625.266,"endTime":629.05,"body":"something like that. But what was it about LinkedIn? You know,"},{"startTime":629.09,"endTime":632.538,"body":"I think a lot of it was like on Instagram it was very visual forward,"},{"startTime":632.674,"endTime":636.506,"body":"right? Whereas on LinkedIn, like, yeah, you can share pictures and stuff, but you don't"},{"startTime":636.538,"endTime":639.734,"body":"have to share a picture for every post. You can just share like a simple"},{"startTime":639.782,"endTime":643.542,"body":"canva graphic. It's not a big deal. Like it was less visual"},{"startTime":643.606,"endTime":647.286,"body":"heavy. I didn't have to create videos. You know, this is a video"},{"startTime":647.358,"endTime":651.062,"body":"podcast. My podcast is not a video podcast. Like, I don't love being"},{"startTime":651.086,"endTime":654.55,"body":"on video, so I feel like it just LinkedIn appealed to my"},{"startTime":654.59,"endTime":657.862,"body":"strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences of, like, I love to"},{"startTime":657.886,"endTime":661.462,"body":"write. I love to kind of be able to see what other people are"},{"startTime":661.486,"endTime":664.534,"body":"doing. Another part of it, too, I will say, is as a previous"},{"startTime":664.622,"endTime":668.066,"body":"fundraiser, LinkedIn allowed me to, like, find really"},{"startTime":668.138,"endTime":671.65,"body":"important information on people that I was kind of prospecting and"},{"startTime":671.77,"endTime":675.55,"body":"looking into. It had the added benefit of"},{"startTime":675.85,"endTime":679.378,"body":"serving as, like, a networking tool in a really powerful way"},{"startTime":679.514,"endTime":682.898,"body":"versus something like Instagram. Like, if I could go and check out a potential donor"},{"startTime":682.914,"endTime":686.05,"body":"or potential partner, but I couldn't really find out much about them"},{"startTime":686.09,"endTime":689.858,"body":"professionally with LinkedIn, I was actually using it to, like, build relationships"},{"startTime":689.874,"endTime":693.672,"body":"that could lead to donations and sponsorships and partnerships"},{"startTime":693.736,"endTime":696.984,"body":"at work. So it's kind of that, like, double whammy. It was like, yes, I"},{"startTime":696.992,"endTime":700.392,"body":"get to be creative and write and share my experiences, but I also get to"},{"startTime":700.416,"endTime":704.216,"body":"use it to further my work. Everything that you're saying about, like, writing"},{"startTime":704.248,"endTime":707.48,"body":"and sharing your stories over there, I'm finding that I'm doing it a lot on"},{"startTime":707.52,"endTime":710.84,"body":"threads. For me, that's, like, where I'm pulled, at least right"},{"startTime":710.88,"endTime":714.568,"body":"now. But I have started every once in a while playing around with,"},{"startTime":714.624,"endTime":718.126,"body":"like. I may gravitate toward threads first, but then I'll share"},{"startTime":718.198,"endTime":721.982,"body":"something very, very similar, if not the same thing on LinkedIn. Yeah. So"},{"startTime":722.006,"endTime":725.71,"body":"what do you think about that strategy? That's not really a strategy, but might kind"},{"startTime":725.75,"endTime":728.894,"body":"of sort of be a strategy. Yeah, I love it. I think it's whatever works."},{"startTime":728.942,"endTime":731.774,"body":"I love threads too. You know, I was, like, really all about it when it"},{"startTime":731.782,"endTime":734.702,"body":"first started, and I've kind of fallen off. But I do, like, peruse there every"},{"startTime":734.726,"endTime":738.254,"body":"now and then. And what I really like about it is it's a no pressure"},{"startTime":738.302,"endTime":742.142,"body":"environment. It's just a place where you can add your thoughts, Everybody's supportive."},{"startTime":742.206,"endTime":745.762,"body":"And there's a couple of elements about threads that I also see on LinkedIn, I"},{"startTime":745.786,"endTime":749.602,"body":"think, namely in the culture of it being so supportive. Like,"},{"startTime":749.626,"endTime":753.234,"body":"on threads, I don't think I've seen any trolls or any hate"},{"startTime":753.282,"endTime":757.01,"body":"or any, like, negativity. No, like, people are just there to"},{"startTime":757.05,"endTime":760.642,"body":"cheer each other on. And I do feel like LinkedIn is actually the same way"},{"startTime":760.746,"endTime":764.018,"body":"with a slight slant on, like, more professional sharing."},{"startTime":764.194,"endTime":767.442,"body":"So it's nice because I think on other platforms like"},{"startTime":767.546,"endTime":771.274,"body":"Twitter, Slash x or even YouTube, you"},{"startTime":771.282,"endTime":775.082,"body":"can share something or Reddit and people will just say the"},{"startTime":775.106,"endTime":778.762,"body":"weirdest, meanest, like, random things. And it really makes you not want to Share"},{"startTime":778.786,"endTime":782.442,"body":"any stories at all when you get that right, especially if this is kind of"},{"startTime":782.466,"endTime":786.186,"body":"a new thing in general for you. But on LinkedIn, it's very"},{"startTime":786.258,"endTime":790.01,"body":"rare that I'll see negativity. Not that it doesn't happen, but"},{"startTime":790.05,"endTime":793.802,"body":"for the most part, I think everybody is supportive, especially because over time"},{"startTime":793.826,"endTime":797.61,"body":"you build an audience of people who have a similar mission or"},{"startTime":797.65,"endTime":801.162,"body":"way of seeing the issue that you work on.
