Put it this way, half of the jokes that they said in that show, they will never say again on TV, ever again. For a car for a children's track. For a children's show, those jokes will never ever be made again.

Walking Away From A BMW Trade
SPEAKER_01the week off. My week has been a 50-50 buck. You want to know why my week has been a 50-50 buck? I'm gonna explain how a person can tell a story of how their week has gone on a podcast. Sit there and listen. Take notes. I'm listening. Alright. So I went to the dealership today. I went to the dealership this week. It was a hard, hard day, dude. I mean, it was a sunny day. It was about 70 degrees, but for some reason my heart felt cold. Cold as ice. It just felt weird, dude. It was just weird feeling. I went to the dealership. I was gonna trade in my I'm gonna trade in my B7 Alpina BMW. Oh my god. It's one of my favorite cars that I have. It's literally my top favorite car. I call it the Batmobile. So I'm going in there, I'm talking to the dealer, and they're giving me an estimate of how much they want it for. They want 10k for the car, and the car doesn't work, Buck.

It's taking over the anime industry. Everyone's talking about the One Piece live action machine animation or live action, right? Yeah. Yeah, live action. Only on Netflix. Exclusive. Exclusively on Netflix.

SPEAKER_01I'm just saying they only got one good one, and it's the only good one right now. So that's what leads me to my next. But like, like pretty much. Well, this is an avatar. Is this the only live action anime that's good?
SPEAKER_02Have you ever seen Alita Battle Angel? No. That one was pretty good. But that one was a blockbuster movie.
SPEAKER_01Good that does good that does numbers.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. Like that one was like a movie, like a like a movie theater blockbuster movie. It had a huge budget. The movie itself is good. It just it just fumbled at the they fumbled at the theater because it's like a cult classic instead of being like a massive IP. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02About 2022, I believe. So it was a couple years ago.

SPEAKER_02No, no, no. It just came out a couple years ago. They're working on the second one, but they're trying to get funding for it and stuff like that. Which I'll I'll I'll be super hyped for. What was it called? Battle Angel Alita.

SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's a movie, so you know, crazy heavy CGI.

SPEAKER_02Like a regular like Avengers, right? What is Avengers? It's a mix of CGI and live action. Same concept.
SPEAKER_01Still brings me to my saying. Is this the best live action we got so far of anime? One piece. Yeah. Season two.

SPEAKER_01When you say incredibly low, what do you mean? Like just like what do you mean by incredibly low? Like there's a lot of live action.
SPEAKER_02No, like if you if you do anything that's solid, it's like you're pretty much, you know, already at the peak because we've had so many trash adaptations from live action. Like the Dragon Ball. We didn't talk about that.
SPEAKER_01We don't talk. That never existed. Exactly. Or Dragon, you're talking about Dragon Ball T? Dragon Ball T. It could be Z for all we know. Nigga, it don't it's nowhere near Z. It's nowhere near A. So I'm putting it near T. It's Dragon Ball T because it was a theater only release.
SPEAKER_02Fair enough. And then obviously we had the uh we had the Avatar The Last Airbender. Not anime, but animation. Suka, you know, all them.

SPEAKER_02We're talking about the 2005 or 2003 or whatever. The one where it took five uh Earthbenders to move a pebble. Yeah. Suka, Kodara, all of them.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's so fucking funny. Okay, no, we did have bad anime live action. But we had some good ones though, too.
SPEAKER_02The one the one that people talk about sometimes is like the bleach one. I know they came out with the Death Note one, which I heard was pretty bad.
SPEAKER_01I don't like the Bleach one. The Death Note one was good, but people I feel like people didn't like the live action Death Note one is because they wanted it like one piece of shot for shot remake, and they didn't go that route. They actually made their own route, which was which made more sense because like let's be real, how are you gonna put the whole Death Note story in one movie?
SPEAKER_02I feel like that's kind of how they fumble it though. There's that's that's too much to compress. You gotta give me like Nah, because you gotta also think of money. No, I mean I get that, but I'm saying it's like, okay, if you know you're not gonna keep it going, at least leave the window open. Don't just open it and close it at the same time. Which is what happens with a lot of shows. They just they know they're gonna get canceled, so towards the ending, they just rush it. And it's like, bro, now you just completely closed closed off the opportunity for it to come back later down the line. So I hate when they do stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01But you gotta remember, anime has a short leash. No, I mean I get that very, very, very, very short leash. Like it can't get through nothing.
SPEAKER_02You know this. That's fine, but Death Note is not like uh some indie as IP for anime terms, it's it's pretty big.
SPEAKER_01For all the anime people that are into anime, you couldn't go up to any high schooler now or middle schooler now, and they might know Death Note and might not know Death Note.
SPEAKER_02But to be fair though, when they make a live action, it's for the most part, I feel like it's really it appeases to the anime fan as much as it appeases to the to the like a normal, you know, normal person fan.
SPEAKER_01Maybe. I think Yeah, I guess you could say, I guess you could say so. You could say so that it does, but also it's not a valid IP to put it on this put it on the broad of One Piece. One Piece is doing a live action when it's on the same hype level that when Dragon Ball Z did their movie.
SPEAKER_02Oh god.
SPEAKER_01Like they're on the same live action of hypness. Like, we're not talking about the same level of like how it was developed, but when the Dragon Ball Z first live action movie came out, it was up there.
SPEAKER_02Like Dragon Ball Z.
SPEAKER_01It was either you watched Dragon Ball Z or you watched Sailor Moon back then. There was no if or other, it was only kind of one or other side. There was the Dragon Ball Z fans that had Naruto and all the other things under his belt, and then you had Sailor Moon with Apple Eye and all the other shit under his belt. It fumbled the bag because they would have ate us up with the live action Dragon Ball Z. We would have we would have ate that like sign, we would have ate that like Korean fried chicken. So damn good. So damn good. So I'm just saying right now, the re when I look at One Piece and I look at the live action, I love the live action, I love how they're dedicated to the storyline, I love how all the characters' costumes are up on point. I love how everything, everybody is playing their role to the T. You cannot hate on the actors, right? Am I right? All the actors are taking their roles as seriously as possible, unlike the other people who cast into anime roles, and they say we never we never read the book.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean they're all like indie actors, so they they definitely have more to work with. Like, for example, think if you put someone big, like The Rock in a role. You think The Rock will be playing that character? He'll be playing The Rock. So the fact that you're working with like lower known actors, it definitely gives you more leverage. And you can make them do what the story tells them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you can't make them read the book. You can't make them detail the manga or get into the manga. You can't let the But that's why it helps that they're all fans. That's what I'm saying. They're fans now. They're fans. They're fans now. They weren't fans then. So like I'm thinking about like when you really think about it, I love these characters and this live action group because they are fans playing their role the best way they can. You can't do live action like cartoons because cartoons are made in cartoons so you can go really out the fucking scope of reality. But like when you're watching this group perform these roles and perform this anime you love, tell me that they ain't hitting it. Tell me Sanji ain't really trying to be Sanji. Usopp ain't really trying to be Usopp. Nami ain't really being Vami's really being Nami in this.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I mean shit, out of all the Nami really being Usopp, I think, is carrying the hell out of everybody. Like, he's he's literally Usopp. Like, if I can think of Usopp as a character, that's a Usopp.
SPEAKER_01I love live action Usopp. That dude is so good. He's caring. Like, honestly, keep doing what you're doing, buddy. You are about to be an icon, legend. Like, you don't understand how much anime fans ride for their fucking actors. If you make them love you more than the regular Usopp character in the anime, which is getting right there to that point.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're almost there, honestly. Two more seasons, and I think you'll be in the character.
SPEAKER_01Your stardom's gonna rocket it, bro. You're gonna be able to get as many roles as possible, bro. I'm telling you, we will ride for you. But you are just keep doing what you're doing, bro. You are doing great. Great Usopp. Great Usopp, bro.

SPEAKER_02I think it's funny because, like, you know, obviously uh we're anime fans, so we know, but in the early pre-time skip, Zoro was funny. Like, he was funny, like a lot of the times.

SPEAKER_02Like he was like I think he wasn't super serious, he was actually laughing and smiling and cracking jokes. But on this one, he's kind of mean, not mean, but always serious, always serious. I'm like, you're kind of missing that.
SPEAKER_01Like, Zorro was always serious, like this nigga will always be mug the next person and be some serious type of shit. But when it came to like Luffy, like in the beginning, this is the beginning of One Piece. When it came to Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper, he would let that seriousness go. And when it came to Sanji, it was just we don't know why. It was always for both of them. I don't know why they never liked each other. They never explain why they hate each other.

SPEAKER_02They just probably have different ideologies, you know what I mean.

SPEAKER_02Like Zoro respects women, like he beats the crap out of them because he respects them as swordsmen, and then Sanji won't touch a woman because you know he respects them. So it's kind of like the two ideologies definitely clash there. But at the same time, bro, like even on a regular date, they're just beating the hell out of a bit.
SPEAKER_01Zoro grew up liking Batman where ass whoopings is delivered to everybody.

SPEAKER_01Sanji liked Superman, where I'm going to save the girl.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, basically. And now they're they're dealing with that for a thousand episodes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, but I respect I respect them right now, bro. They're doing the roles care carefully. I love how the pacing's going. I'm glad they're not doing the anime pacing. No, I mean, but like the only thing do you understand how far we would be if they were doing the anime pacing and they did the filler arcs?
SPEAKER_02Like the only the total thing that I feel like kind of annoys me a little bit is how they're changing some things, like some mysteries that would come down a little bit longer down the line. They're kind of throwing it at you right away.
SPEAKER_01Oda already clarified, Oda already clarified that he's changing the ending of the live action. So so they're gonna they're gonna they're gonna catch up fast, but their ending ain't gonna be the same.

Why Most Anime Adaptations Fail
SPEAKER_01anime can can the live action anime genre keep up with the regular TV genres? Because okay, live action anime is good for all the anime fans that want to see it in live action. Cool. But would regular people watch live action anime like how they'll watch a Game of Thrones, a Breaking Bad.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, without a doubt. I don't think so. No, because think about it like this, right? One piece, that One Piece anime has taken 25 years to get this far.

So the fact that it's this big already, this early on, tells you because at the end of the day, yeah, there's a lot of anime fans, but there's a lot more casual fans, and they outnumber us by the 30s. So the fact that this show is not only loyal to the anime, to the manga, changes a couple things, which you know as anime fans kind of annoys you a little bit, but that's fine because it's not for us. So as a whole, the fact that it's doing this numbers this quickly without even getting to like the main points of the anime, I think it's gonna at least catch up to the anime soon. I feel like mainstreaming is top. I pay for all of my prescriptions because I lived in that era where I couldn't afford it. So I pay for all my prescriptions.
