Mark your calendars for a landmark event in mobile home advocacy! The Oregon State Tenants Association (OSTA) Conference returns this October 4th at the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield after a five-year absence. We've faced countless challenges since 2019—from pandemic disruptions to escalating housing concerns—yet our commitment to manufactured and floating home residents remains steadfast.

Despite years of inflation, we're holding ticket prices at the same $25 rate as 2019. Your ticket includes lunch, prizes, awards, and access to informative sessions with expert speakers and panel discussions. Have a neighbor who's curious about what OSTA does? Bring them along—their ticket includes a complimentary OSTA membership! This is particularly valuable as we address critical issues such as rent control enforcement, maintenance problems, and management practices that impact our communities.

The heart of this conference centers on you—our members. We're dedicating a special session to mapping out OSTA's vision for the next five years, and your voice matters tremendously in this conversation. What priorities should we focus on? What challenges need our immediate attention? Beyond planning, we'll provide updates on recent legislation affecting manufactured home communities, introduce our new Southern Oregon representative, and preview exciting initiatives like our community rating system and enhanced digital presence. Space is limited, and tickets are already selling out. Register today through our website. The future of manufactured home advocacy in Oregon begins with your participation on October 4th!

Bill Bateman:

Well, hi everybody, time for another OSTA update, and the big news is that October 4th is set for the conference. Write it in pen, write it in pencil if you're driving. Write it in the dust on the dashboard. This is an important date and you're going to want to be there. Come on in, let's talk about it. Hi everybody, I'm Bill Bateman, part of the team at OSTA, the Oregon State Tenants Association, and this is all about the OSTA conference. We said it may be coming. Well, it is confirmed. We have booked the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield, oregon. So you're going to want to mark down the date October 4th, it's going to be from 11 to 3. And, to answer your question, yes, there's going to be lunch. Yes, we're going to have prizes, awards, and yes, we're going to be lunch. Yes, we're going to have prizes, awards, and yes, we're going to have guest speakers. There's a lot of things scheduled for the day and you guys are going to want to be there. It's, as I said, the Hilton Garden Inn. That's at 3528 Gateway Street in Springfield, oregon, if you're going to Google it.

Bill Bateman:

And, interestingly enough, we looked at the price. The last time we had a conference was in 2019. And then COVID hit and then all kinds of things happened and well, we didn't have a member conference between then and now. Now, back then, tickets were $25. And that was lunch, prizes, awards and all the things I spoke of. Well, for 2025, we thought, why not $25 per ticket? That's right, holding the old price. But wait, there's more. If you've got a neighbor who's curious, who's Osta-curious and would like to find out what we're up to. Curious, who's Osta curious and would like to find out what we're up to, they can come along and membership is included in the price of their ticket. So, if you're a resident of a manufactured or floating home, please attend the Osta conference. We're going to have some good things in addition to the usual food prices. We're going to have some speakers. We're going to have panels good things in addition to the usual food prizes. We're going to have some speakers. We're going to have panels. We're going to have, hopefully, an opportunity for you to get your questions answered live, right there at the event.

Bill Bateman:

Where is OSTA going? We would like you, the members, to be part of that decision. One of the panels is going to be the next five years for OSTA. What are the goals? What would we like to accomplish. We've taken our first bite at the apple, trying to get rents under control, but there's so much more to do. There's enforcement of the existing laws. There's existing problems that all of us know about as far as maintenance. There's abuses by management. There are a lot of things. We want to know what you would like to do. So one of the things we're going to be having is a session dedicated to planning the goals for the next five years, including you, the members, the dues paying members, the benefits and the recipients of those services. So when we start talking about the conference, this is all about you. We're going to be reporting out to what we've been doing. We're going to report out some of the goals we have and we are going to want to find out what you, the members, want to have.

Bill Bateman:

In planning the conference. We decided we'd try and go midway in the state. Somebody's going to be unhappy, regardless of where you put it. So we put it midway in the Eugene-Springfield area and, to make it more palatable for folks like me who are going to be driving in, we do have a limited number of discounted rooms available at the Hilton, so if you're interested in that, you're going to want to reach out to Osta. We are going to have on our website, the Osta website, a definite QR code and I will put a link with full ticket information on the login for this podcast. I urge you. We're already I'm surprised I'm getting around to cutting this podcast and people are already buying tickets. We're looking at selling out and we want to make sure you can attend. Now. I'm not really panicked about selling out, but we were so surprised with the number of people that showed up in Salem for our events. We don't want you disappointed, so I'd suggest you go ahead and order your tickets now and, if you're going to come on up, book your rooms now at the Hilton Garden Inn in beautiful Springfield, oregon.

Bill Bateman:

What else is going on? Well, we have a new rep in the Southern Oregon area, a new board member and director. So in addition to myself serving the Southern Oregon area, we have another person, shannon. Shannon is going to be working in the Southern area and we've already got a group or two that has indicated they'd like to start a chapter. So we are going to make ourselves more available. Now that we're done with this legislative business, we're going to be working to be more available to you. That means, with you inviting us to your park, we can come out and give you all kinds of information. So that's good, that's new and that's exciting. We are hoping you're going to come to the conference and help us plan the next five years. Some of the things we're going to be working on is putting together a rating system for the parks so the potential buyers can look at this rating system and you, the owners, will have an opportunity. Think of it as Yelp review for mobile home and floating home living Some things lined up for the conference which I'm quite excited about.

Bill Bateman:

We are looking at I don't know if we can actually do it from the concert, but you will see more live streaming. You'll be able to call in and talk to us directly right there online and that would be on our YouTube platform. So lots going on, lots of changes. The law is signed into effect. If you're getting a rent increase right now and mid to late July saying, yeah, this is going to take, no, it doesn't, I put together a whole explanation of how this works. You should have gotten a rent increase by early June if it was going to take effect in September of 25. So there's lots of stuff going on.

Bill Bateman:

If If you're a member, the OSTA conference is for you. When is it again? I hope you wrote it down October 4th, 11 to 3, hilton Garden Inn, springfield, oregon. The OSTA members conference. And if you want to bring a guest from your mobile home or floating home community, they'll get a free membership included in the price of the ticket. Got questions? Go to the website. Got questions? Click on the link which I'm going to include at the beginning of this program. And got questions? Bring them to the conference, because we're going to have a lot of people there who can help you get answers. All right, that's it for now. More to come, as it happens, be safe, stay cool. We'll see you soon.
