Lifeboat 5 by Susan Hood
Life has become unbearable for Bess in London, 1940. The Germans are bombing the city all the time, and she is scared. Plus she hates the girls at her school who have been bullying her. Maybe the way out is through the organization called Children's Overseas Reception Board. If only she and her younger brother, Louis, can get on board one of the ships that is sending children away from the war. Luckily for her, she does! Where she meets a girl her age named Beth and they become true friends. And they will need each other when the worst happens at sea.
