How do you Price out Art?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Pricing your art isn’t just about numbers—it’s about understanding your value. This piece explores the balance between creativity and business, where time, materials, skill, and market demand all play a role in defining what your work is truly worth.
Set against a bold Art Deco backdrop, the message is clear: artists who learn to price with confidence turn their passion into power. It’s not about guessing—it’s about owning your value and positioning your art to be taken seriously.

Okay, so first off, thank you for your response. Thank you for your feedback. This is a person that's a student in school and creating their artwork, and they're working with some pricing models. And the question is you know, I'm using a model that's roughly$3 and 2 cents or$3 per square inch on my current creations and my current paintings. And as an example, because you go by total square inches, so 36 inch by 24 inch canvas painting would be roughly 800 square inches. Um and so um you you come out with about that painting. If you went by the$3 rule, that painting would be roughly around uh$2,500. Now I sell 36 by 24 inch, and depending on the detail of the work, my work can go from anywhere from$500 to$1,500. And if it's really detailed and it's a commission piece, it could go to like$3,000. Um, so uh um my first question is if you're able to get that kind of money for your pieces now while you're in art school, congratulations. First of all, congratulations that you're in art school. Second, congratulations that you're finding your two talents and you're creating some great items. Um but uh starting off like a painting like that, let's say 36 inch by 24 inch, starting off could go from anywhere from 300 to like$800 in a real live situation in real life environments. So think about your pricing model on your current pieces right now, maybe a little bit high, in my opinion. Uh, but canvas prints are a total totally different game because canvas prints is high high-resolution prints on canvas or on paper or on matte paper, and it's a print of your original, and so you could go to my TikTok shop and you could see these small um 10x8s, 10x8s, and they're like close to$40 for the canvas print. Uh now, if I went by square inches, it would be worth a lot more than that. So I don't use the same rule that I do with canvas prints as I do with acrylic paintings that take hours and hours to do, and um uh a lot of detail and a lot of acrylic and a lot of texture and a lot of shading and a lot of everything else color balancing. So uh I hope this helps you. Think about how you're pricing out your prints because uh it's a totally different game than what your real paintings are if you're doing oil, water, or acrylic.
