36: Pusher
I've been a fan of Pusher ever since I discovered "Islands, Waves, Caves, & Skies" in a random Soundcloud mix in 2012. He may have started out as a video game-inspired future bass producer, but he's since evolved through a myriad of stages, writing dance-pop hits like "Clear" and exploring the art of commitment and spontaneity with his Jamuary series, but it's his debut album Stay-At-Home Popstar that sees him put all the pieces of Pusher together into one mind-melting, infectious and tongue-in-cheek nihilistic piece of genius - even his jazz performer past!
In today's episode, we chat about how Eminem, Frank Zappa, Don Hertzfeldt and r/collapse all inspired this a-pop-calyptic wonder, and we also talk about his rural upbringing and weird patterns of behavior that lead him to fully commit to things like film scoring and, well, Jamuary lol. It's fun! Enjoy!
