Jeff Alan Wolf really didn’t want to do this episode. Not because there wasn’t enough news, but because American politics increasingly feels like the same infuriating show on an endless loop…

power, retaliation, investigations, outrage and politicians who seem far more interested in settling scores than actually governing.

This episode of A World Gone Mad is different. It’s less a collection of headlines and more a rallying cry about what happens when Congress and Washington turn political power into a weapon, constitutional principles become negotiable, and governing takes a back seat to finding the next enemy.

The latest fight involving Dr. Anthony Fauci, Senator Rand Paul, contempt of Congress and the Fifth Amendment becomes one example of a much larger question…

Do constitutional rights still mean the same thing when they’re protecting someone your political side despises?

But Jeff’s anger goes well beyond Fauci. Congress has enormous power, enormous resources and enormous responsibility.

So why does so much of American government increasingly resemble a gigantic grievance department while ordinary Americans are worrying about healthcare, housing, Social Security, groceries, insurance and simply keeping the bills paid?

Jeff’s angry. But this is still A World Gone Mad, which means the frustration comes wrapped in the sarcasm, humor and slightly warped observations that have always been part of the show. Because sometimes the only way to make sense of the madness is to laugh at just how absurd it’s become.

This isn’t a left-versus-right argument. It’s an angry demand for something that shouldn’t be remotely controversial: consistency, restraint, responsibility and leaders who remember that governing the United States is supposed to be about more than revenge.

Jeff is pissed off. And by the end of this episode, the bigger question may be whether more Americans should be too.

A Host Who Is Fed Up

This is a world gone man!

SPEAKER_00

From Studio 19, I'm Jeff Allen Wolf, and this is definitely a world gone man. I have a confession to make. I really didn't want to do this show today. I'm in the mood. I'm in a pissed off mood. I'm in a very pissed off mood. This episode is going to be slightly different. It's time for a rallying cry. Calgon, take me away. I didn't want to do this episode. Not because I'm tired, not because I didn't have time. And certainly not because there isn't anything happening in the world. There's an earthquake. There's plenty of news. There are plenty of headlines. I just looked at everything else happening in this country and thought, damn it, haven't we done this episode already? And the answer is yes. We've done it Monday. We've done it Wednesday. We've done it Friday. We've apparently renewed it for another season. And nobody even bothered asking whether America was still watching. Because it's the same crap happening. The same people abusing power. The same people defending the people abusing power. The same members of Congress pretending that whatever happened five minutes ago never happened. The same outrage machine looking for another person to investigate, another enemy to punish, another institution to attack, another constitutional principle to suddenly reinterpret. Because today it happens to be inconvenient. And I'm disgusted by it. I'm not disappointed anymore. Disappointment requires some lingering expectation that people are eventually going to behave better. I'm way past that. I'm pissed off. I'm pissed off watching people entrusted with enormous power treat the government of the United States like some gigantic personal grievance department. We have senators, members of Congress, cabinet officials, people occupying some of the most important positions in the country. And increasingly I look at some of them and wonder whether they actually understand what those jobs are supposed to be. Because governing apparently isn't enough anymore. Now, everybody needs an enemy. Everybody needs revenge. Everybody needs an investigation. Everybody needs somebody hauled before a committee so they can create a television clip, point a finger, raise their voice, and demonstrate to the people watching at home that they are very angry about something. And if you've forgotten what they were angry about last week, don't worry. Apparently, so have they.

Fauci Dragged Back To Congress

SPEAKER_00

Which brings me to Dr. Anthony Fauci. Yes, Dr. Fauci. Again, the man is 85 years old. COVID began more than six years ago. And somehow, Congress is still dragging Anthony Fauci back into hearing rooms like they're trying to squeeze one more sequel out of a movie franchise that should have ended four films ago. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has now voted to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress after he invoked the Fifth Amendment, his Fifth Amendment rights during questioning. And before somebody starts screaming, but Jeff, he took the fifth. Yes, he did. The Fifth Amendment. You know what that is? It's part of the Constitution. You know that document everybody in Washington claims to adore right up until somebody uses a section they don't like. Then suddenly it's less. Sacred foundation of American liberty and more. Have we considered the terms and conditions? Fauci's position was essentially that Senator Rand Paul and others have spent years talking about prosecuting him. And therefore his attorneys advised Fauci not to answer questions that could potentially expose him to legal jeopardy. Paul's position is that Fauci had already received a presidential pardon from Joe Biden. So Fauci shouldn't be able to invoke the Fifth Amendment in this situation. Fine. That's a legal argument. Have the legal argument. That's what courts and lawyers are for. But what absolutely infuriates me is watching constitutional rights become something Washington treats like a

The Fifth Amendment Is Not Optional

SPEAKER_00

fucking group on. Valid only at participating locations. Because apparently we've reached the point where constitutional principles depend entirely on who is invoking them. If it's somebody on your team, it's an essential protection against government tyranny. If it's somebody you hate, apparently it's evidence that they're hiding something. That isn't how rights work. You don't get to support the Constitution a la carte. I'll have the Second Amendment, a large First Amendment, hold the 14th, and could you take the Fifth Amendment off completely? I don't care for that one today. And this is exactly what I mean when I say I'm disgusted with leadership in this country. Because leadership is supposed to require something more difficult than revenge. It requires restraint. It requires consistency. It requires occasionally defending a principle, even when the person benefiting from that principle is somebody you cannot stand. That's the test. Anybody can defend constitutional rights when those rights protect their friends. The Constitution becomes important when it protects somebody else you despise. Otherwise, it isn't a principle. It's a membership benefit. What bothers me most isn't even one committee vote. It's what this represents.

Oversight Turned Into Political Content

SPEAKER_00

We've turned governing into retaliation. We've turned congressional oversight into entertainment. We have turned investigations into political branding exercises. And then everybody wonders why Americans have so little faith in their institutions. Seriously? It's a mystery? Congress has spent years demonstrating that practically every rule, every norm, and every principle can become negotiable the moment political advantage enters the room. Then they conduct another poll and discover Americans don't trust them. Sherlock Holmes isn't necessary here. And I'm tired of pretending this is normal. I'm tired of politicians telling us the Republic will collapse unless their particular enemy is investigated by Thursday afternoon. And I'm especially tired of people who have extraordinary power behaving as though they're the victims of everybody else. You're United States senators. You're members of Congress. You have staffs, committees, subpoena power, television cameras, federal buildings, and more access to power than 99.999% of the people listening to me will ever have.

Real People Pay The Price

SPEAKER_00

And release the damn Epstein files. Because while Washington conducts another revenge hearing, there are Americans sitting at kitchen tables trying to figure out which bill they're not paying this month. They don't have congressional committees. They don't have television cameras. Nobody holds a hearing because their electric bill went up. Nobody issues a subpoena because their insurance company denied a claim. Nobody calls the Justice Department because their rent increased another $300. They just deal with it. And maybe that's why I'm so angry. Because ordinary Americans are constantly told to be responsible. Follow the rules, pay your taxes, obey the law, respect institutions, accept election results, honor contracts, meet your obligations, be frigging adults. Meanwhile, some of the most powerful people in America seem to wake up every morning asking one question. Who can I fuck with today? That isn't leadership? And I don't care whether there's an R after your name or a D after your name. If your primary reason for seeking power is figuring out how to use it against somebody else, you shouldn't have the power in the first place. Maybe tomorrow I'll wake up and feel less disgusted. Maybe Congress will suddenly discover governing. Maybe everyone will put down the flamethrowers, stop performing for social media, and remember that they're supposed to be running a country of more than 340 million human beings. And maybe my golden retriever will learn how to prepare my taxes. At the moment, I'm putting roughly equal odds on all four things happening. Slim and none. But today, I'm disgusted. I'm angry. And frankly, I think more Americans should be. Not because we all have to agree. We never will. But because we ought to expect something better from the people we hand this much power to. That shouldn't be Republican. That shouldn't be Democratic. That shouldn't be left or right. That should be the absolute minimum requirement for governing the United States of America. And somehow, even that bar now appears to be too fucking high.
