[0:10] Welcome to Stargate SG-1 for the first time still, not a Star Trek podcast. My name is Jeff Akin and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the first time.
[0:20] And I'm Brent Allen and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the 47th time. But for the first time, I am looking for what Stargate is trying to teach us, provided I remember to actually look for that during the episode and not just get lost in the episode like I did last week. You know those are the lessons that hold up a mirror to society give us hope that things can be better in the future or just show us how we can be better human beings to one another right this week we have a two-parter we're closing out season two and opening up season three so we're going to be watching out of mind and then into the fire yeah hey listen if you guys are just hanging out with us for stargate that's amazing that's awesome make sure you check out jeff and i's other show i belong five for the first time it's the thing that it's it's the mothership show it's the one that got this whole thing started and uh we've had a great time over there with that show too so the tree check is out over there by the time by the time this hits the airwaves we'll be done with that so you go back and binge the whole thing but with this two-parter my expectations are very high right and i feel like the first episode is really going to set up a big battle that will uh close out everything from the second season and start laying the framework for new new stuff in season three well let's jump in and find out jeff what do you say let's do it let's do it all This episode, episode 22 of season 2, episode 1 of season 3, Out of Mind, End of the Fire, Original Air Dates.
[1:39] February 10th for Out of Mind, June 25th for Into the Fire. So a really good break for these guys in between. Both episodes directed by famed SG-1 director Martin Wood. Oh, yeah. We are still getting to know him.
[1:54] And both episodes story crafted by show creators Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner. Jonathan gets the script credit. What do you call that? The screen credit? The screenplay. Screenplay credit, whatever it is. He gets the writing credit for the first episode. Brad Wright gets it for the second episode. Nice. That being said, Jeff, let's dive into this episode. Let's go watch it right now. Let's do it. You and me. All right. Well, with that, we are going to watch this episode. If you're joining us for the very first time, the way this works is Jeff and I are going to watch this episode for the first time right now. And if you want to see the full unedited version of that video, head over to our Patreon page. It's patreon.com slash.
[2:35] Bye nerds. There it is. There it is. do one more time patreon.com slash bye nerds i love that's b-y-e nerds and uh you guys can check out the full unedited version of that video however if you're with us on youtube you are going to get the youtube version where you know we had to cut a bunch out if you're an audio podcast listener you're about to gate into the future you're going to catch us after we've watched these episodes you're going to hear my for the first time reactions you're going to hear the sci-fi messages that brent pulled out of this one i am dying to move out of season two brent let's kick it off Get on 7, locked. Get on 7, locked. Is that the brig on, Did you read the ball number? No, I didn't. Was I supposed to read it? Oh, it says SGC. Chamber opening. Ah, Jack O'Neill's coming back to the future. You're right. His eyes are all red and everything, man. You can tell it's future because he has a future pillow. It's okay, Colonel O'Neill. You're in the SGC. You're going to be fine. Welcome back to the land of the living, Colonel. First of all, I regret.
[4:00] Music.
[4:12] You were sent back through the Stargate already frozen. We're guessing by some advanced culture. Sure didn't take long for the military uniforms to go to crap. What is that? The doctor Fraser felt that to thaw you without the proper technology would probably kill you. He's got like this ketrisome white. Until such time as the technology was developed to safely revive you. Colonel, do you have any idea what happened to you on that planet? No, ma'am. What happened to my team? They didn't make it. I got that. They didn't make it back through the gate. Didn't survive the thawing process. what? Their bodies were sent back but they were already dead. I'm sorry, Colonel. It was a long time ago. Not to me it was. Maybe for you. Yeah, for you. 79 years is not that long. Really. I don't know anything about it. 79 years ago, what's up from us now? Probably the late 50s.
[5:02] Late 40s. Maybe early 40s. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, Colonel, do you have any recollection of what happened in your last mission? I'd say it's been a long time since between now and world war ii yeah yeah i wish i did sir i remember intel suggested the planet we were going to was ruled by a ghoul we feel whoever did help was able to beat back the ghoul in order to do so we'd love to know who could do that so would i sir we have a new technology that might help you remember we'd like to give it a try if you feel up to it what was the episode of next generation where geordie was hooked up to the romulans and like they were in a scenario i know which episode you're talking about i cannot remember the name of the episode off the top of my head yeah something like i i know exactly what you're talking about it's not the defector, because i always get those two confused in my head uh it's it's it's the one that's not the defector okay yeah yeah that's fair i i i have a suspicion yeah this is that episode like this is not happening we're not in 2077 somebody's in jack's head trying to get some information see what you're saying you're a good guesser clearly.
[6:14] Sure, at war with the Gould and, frankly, we're losing. It's funny to me you say that because we literally just had a time travel episode. Whoever helped you 79 years ago can help us now. Oh, look, wave a light over it. Wave a thing on it. We'll add a sound effect in post and it'll do a thing. As Atokra explained, this device stimulates the memory centers of your mind and then amplifies it. Yeah, careful what you think about it. All you have to do is focus your thoughts and guide the right memories to the surface. These are always those episodes, Jeff. where somebody like killed somebody. It's kind of like a high-tech version of hypnosis. We've introduced a very light set of through those tubes and you should be feeling the effects by now. Start by concentrating on what race or culture you can think of from your travels that might have the technology to defeat the gould and cryogenically suspend you. The Nox did. They could revive their death. They could make themselves invisible. They should know this. Like, there were reports. Before you go on here, there's something we would have you see. It's pretty cool how his memory is a multi-camera shoot. Absolutely. With him in it. Oh, yeah. Like, not just from his point of view, but like. Oh, no. This isn't going to be that TNG episode. It's going to be a clip show. You're good, guys. A clip show that is a clip show. Can you think of anyone else who could have defeated the Gould? Yeah, it's good.
[7:43] Music.
[7:58] It's a cool design like clearly we're going to be seeing a lot more of that they put some thought into the design of that thing and some thought into the design of these guys.
[8:08] It's creepy outfits that make them great it's got good lighting in his memories pans the camera you're the asgard dors race right and the ancients the builders of the stargates it's pretty lame that their race is called the Ancients. They probably have some other name. They're like, stop calling us old. We're the whatevers. Come on. The first ones? Yeah. You all seem to be quite wonderful people. Jack could literally punt any of those guys across the room without much effort at all. You should understand. We're out there now. Such a great episode, Jeff. Yeah, this really was. The fifth race. It was so, remember, the thing grabbed his head, the funny words, the whatever, the what's he doing. Everything. In Draco's art, it was just perfect episode top to bottom. And just to come to this moment. This is an ending, yeah, to pay it off. I love it, too, because the normal trope would be, you know, you have great potential, so much more. Oh, that's great, awesome, thanks. But he's like, no, we're doing this. Yeah, we're there now. Yeah, we need to do this immediately. And then he gets affirmed. He's like, you're already on your way. I mean, hope for a better future. I mean, it's all the way through.
[9:30] Oh, this guy. Tantalus. Yeah. At least they're hitting us with the good episodes on this clip show. Yeah, yeah. Basically, if I were to do SG-1 with the baby up treatment. There's some sort of meeting place where four alien races, denoted by the symbols and distinctive writing on the walls. This looks familiar. What? I need an adult wow.
[9:55] This was a really good episode too I haven't thought about it I mean just like some of the stuff that's popped up it's just all this Daniel, Uh-oh, he's glitching. Must be time for a commercial break. He's got to keep that thing in his head, though. Yeah, that's the only way we can keep things going. Well, I don't want to take it out and put that thing back in all the time. It hurt. Now he's got the purple juice. It's a little weird that they don't change out the tube. Well, yeah, one might say that that's not necessarily medically...
[10:27] Music.
[10:29] Oh, maybe he's not dead. They lie. It's okay, Dr. Jackson. You're in the SGC. You're going to be fine. Yeah. Uh-oh. This one has an aqua in her system, so keep her a little more doped. Oh, there we go. I don't know if I should stop the same shot. Space it out enough. We'll forget that it's the same thing.
[10:53] I notice hers doesn't come so far down. Right, is it? The opening. Merely trying to stimulate the region of your memory that involves doing battle with the Gould. It might help us in our current battles. I'm back to my interrogation theory. You did fight the gold a lot. Tell me how you defeated Apophis. The very bowels of the ship. We must climb down several depths. Seeing Braytac reminds me of a photo, a meme, I don't know, it's a picture I saw online that I was afraid was going to be a spoiler, but it wasn't. But it was just the cast of SG-1 then and now. Okay.
[11:26] And Braytac was great. Oh, yeah. I saw Braytac in a movie not too long ago. Tony Amendola. Yeah, yeah. Oh, it was, my kids were watching, it was a spy kids movie on Netflix. The new one, that's terrible. It is so bad. Yeah, but he's like the uncle or whatever. And then, of course, there's Hathor. She almost succeeded in doing some pretty big damage. He must praise you and gift you a great honor. Yeah, I'm sure that'd be just great, but not right. Just great. I can't see that in nothing of Poison Ivy from Batman Returns? Returns, I think. Not Returns? No? No. Forever. Batman Forever? Yeah, it's one of those. I think it was the one with George Clooney. Well, hello. And whatever that thing is on your belly button. This is supposed to be Daniel Jackson's memory, right? Yeah. Weird that he knows this so intimately. Hothys first. Beautiful. This is not making me like Hothel.
[12:32] That was an awful episode. It really was. But I mean, credit to them. They're not giving up. They're all in. So that we may gain retribution. Definitely one of those episodes I think that was better in thought than probably execution. And I'm not sure that you could have executed it any better than. She deserves no mercy from us. I love this. Watch. You literally see her get up out of the fire and walk into the back room. It's ridiculous. Yeah. And I think we're supposed to see her. Look at her. Here you go. Yeah. See her get up, walk out, and walk away into the back room. So calm. I think that we were supposed to see that because they still talk about her like she's around. Nothing. I just... Oh, yeah. It's okay. It's okay. I wonder if anything's different. You're in the SGC, Teal. Good to have you back, too.
[13:20] Easy easy no this is the this is the game they're playing in his head right now good question we were hoping you could tell us you'd be searching for a needle in a very large haystack perhaps, but i must try i hereby respectfully inform you that i must take my leave the sgc, therefore i am no longer under your command and i'm going back i can't allow you to do that you represent too great a security risk general hammond isn't that something totally after all this time he's still a prisoner exactly you know what i mean yeah he's done all these things sacrificed fought bled yeah yeah and you know what general hammond's right yeah in this case but still he's still a prisoner yeah like for divulging any information to concerning this world chris judge is doing such a great like he's crying yeah i don't know if you saw that he's crying right now, but still staying just as stoic as possible like in both things yeah great acting job by Chris Judge right there oh my gosh if I were Tilk I would have proposed okay fine you can't oh yeah he is now he is yeah yeah yeah and you can see it blew that side nothing on the other side tell MacCree make Tilka.
[14:38] This dude's about to get jacked he's not allowed to say a word because they don't want to pay him. That was smart, though, by Jack. He had him get walked around so he could lay the land. Started controlling the drugs they were giving him. Really good thinking. As a matter of fact, it does say Colonel on his uniform. See, here's the thing. This is not the outfit Tilk arrived on the world with. And has never worn this or anything close to her. Ever. Going to Tatooine to hide out for a while? I don't know. Chris Judge is looking rather as felt right now. So where you been on that count? If I were Tilk and he didn't want to let me go, I would have asked to be released to the Choker. Let me go to them, and then I'll go look for.
[15:24] I get it. So now the question, of course, is where did he actually go? I like that the guy that was working on Jack there a few minutes ago just happens to be his same size. It's very convenient. It's just the military size. If you're in the military, that's the size you wear. Everybody's the same size in the military? Is that what it is? Yeah, it's the McDonald's of the military. Just everything the same every time. That's why I wouldn't work in the military. That's why I didn't. They don't have the uniform for me. Nice force perspective there. That's good. That's good. You know what? Shout out to the set designers that engraved hieroglyphics up and down those walls all over the place. Look at that. That's a Horus card and a Sorcerer side by side. Yeah, I was trying to see the thing.
[16:11] They're trying to get the lay of the land, which Gould is doing the stuff that we need to go target because this system lord is trying to ascend to a system lord or trying to take out a system lord.
[16:27] I like the thumping does not match his footsteps. Yep. It never does. And Jeff, why do shows use clip shows? Because they have to have 22 episodes a season. Also because they acknowledge that people are joining at different, This is a great entry point for people. We'll catch you up on all the stuff you need to know. Oh, that sounded so... Another good episode. I think he pulled the plug on that thing.
[17:05] This is where I got to wonder, and I totally don't know. I'm purely curious. Mixing male-female teams like this. Is there any modesty left between team members? And how long does it take to lose that modesty? Did you ever see Starship Troopers? Well, yeah, but that's their whole culture. That's exactly what I'm talking about. In a real world situation, this is it. She'd just rip off that blame and just go and everything's fine. Not an apples to apples, but when I was working in pro wrestling, I'd put a lot of locker rooms and they're doing... This is the space we got. They're in the same locker room? You tell me, mine's in pretty deep. I don't understand, they said. They're Goa'uld Daniel. What year is it? 1999, more than likely. And you know, this show is still on Showtime. At this point? It would not be... Cost cutter. This sod is obviously part of a bigger Goa'uld facility. I'm going to avoid that out again. Oh, I missed something? Yeah. But it would not be beyond the realm of possibility with Showtime show. That it's full whatever. True, yeah. It's like they just built it right up against the walls. Damn cost cutters. Damn cost cutters. Sod is obviously part of a bigger gold facility. Okay, did Daniel get a bowl cut for this episode? It's a weird looking haircut. You don't think Apophis. Silence!
[18:29] Music.
[18:33] It's your favorite, Jeff. I was so hoping never to see you again. Some immediate disappointment. Yeah, same, Jack. You and me, same. It smells so bad, it's like they pulled them out half haircut like get out of the chair now we need you on set what is the sequence of numbers necessary to open the barricade of protecting your stargate 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 amazing if you will not give us the information of the same coat I have in my luggage.
[19:13] Oh, wow. What are we... You're going to see a Showtime show here. I won't put him and Tilt Judd right next to each other. I wonder if that's... I legit wonder if that's not Chris Judd's body double. Or like... Oh, it's done double or something. Oh, there we go. Our friend here is ready for a host. Did she just pull that out of dude's belly? he needs like another one like pronto which one of you.
[19:43] They changed up her makeup a little bit, and it looks a lot better. Yeah. Uh-oh. Oh, that's it. That's where I got left. Okay. He's going to get implanted with the gould. All right, Jeff. Mid-episode break. I'm not sure what episode season two spent all its money on, but... Yeah, probably quite a bit. So, yeah, initial reaction is 80%. I don't care about this episode at all. It could never happen. Yeah. Neat idea, but the ending has really sucked me back in like now i'm like oh yeah i want to know well you know so this next episode let's just be clear brand new year of budget yeah you can do all kinds of stuff now blow it all on this one and it's a it's a season premiere like you've got to you've got to go all out for it right and it totally that's a great episode title out of mind totally lines up to what uh what we just saw yeah i really wish it would have just been out of the frying pan into the fire yeah or just out of the pan into the fight like something like that i wish it would have been that and this is a show that would do that absolutely all right you ready to go let's do it here we go when scouting 254 sir we came across several members of the tokra they told us the location of sg1 where are they they've been taken prisoner sir by hathor.
[21:02] Here we go so here's the thing right out of the gate yeah i just got to say totally could have skipped that entire first episode and had that yeah, I'm sitting here thinking about that right now, going, oof, it's 1215. I could have just. We could be done already. But no, somebody had to be like, I want to see every episode, even the bad ones. Let's do it, Brent. You have the coordinates? Yes, sir. My team is ready to go. This is what they do, right? Here's your information. Sergeant, I'd like you to get me the president on the phone. Hey, there's your guy. I want every available SGT ready to deploy in the gate room within two hours. It's like he literally took season two off. Right? I only wish we could. Nearly half of our teams are off-world right now on other missions. Maybe he had to go to Chevron school.
[21:50] SG-1 is a valuable asset, but there's still just one team. Oof. Major, you've got a lot to learn about how we do things around here. Listen, Major, shut your mouth. Also, I'm going to go talk to the president. So I would like all of those willing to attempt the rescue of SG-1. To take one step. Yeah, that's how you do it. Very well. Good luck, Colonel. Give him hell. See, at what point does Hammond get involved and go himself? You and me. I was just going to say, I understand why he's not going, but this would be the mission to put him out there. Yeah, yeah. For the pain that a symbiote can inflict in its host is unimaginable. That would be interesting, like, someone who's had multiple of the symbiotes inside of them. And, like, do they argue? How do they jockey for stuff? Great as a father unit. All right, fine. Let's do it. Just please, I beg you. Not in the back of the neck.
[22:56] Good try. Uh-oh. He would have heard the symbiote. What you have done in his place, returning to the safety of the Jafar. Good for Jack, though, stepping up, saying, you know, if somebody's got to take this hit, it's going to be me. Well, but you also saw what you tried to do. Yeah. You tried to grab the symbiote and, I don't know, break its neck or whatever. But totally the right move. I just wonder how easily those things are. How fragile is a ghoul's body? It's a pretty big thing to go inside a body, though, you know? It wraps itself around the cerebral cortex and the spine and stuff. Yeah, but I don't necessarily think I have that much space for something that's that big inside my body. That's what she said. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry, family from the show. Obi-Wan Tilk. Uh-oh. Well, this is a good time to go pray. Right. I'm curious where he is, because where he was was not the actual SGC. Right. Oh. And he went through a Stargate and is now somewhere. Or are we just supposed to forget that it wasn't really the SGC and he just gated somewhere? What if it was really the SGC? It was like night shift. Braytac! Nice!
[24:24] Just touch that real quick, and then I'll whip this out. So last time they ran together, he became Jaffa. Now... And when you awaken from the joining, you will kneel. And did it through the neck. Exactly. They didn't flip him over, though, you know?
[24:51] I'm glad he didn't go through the mouth, though. I've got to be honest. Yeah, it's pretty gross. So, Jeff, I've got a quiz for you. How long does it take for gold to take control of a new host? I don't remember. How long the plot dictates. Ah, that's right. It's the answer to most of the how long questions. Even the 38 minutes could change if we need to write it. I am Tok'ra. The cryogenic process will prevent the melding. The gold within will die, but until then, you must find it. So he's actually frozen, actually cryogenously frozen, maybe for 10 minutes, maybe not. 79 years. You know what I really appreciate is that they still have Earth people using projectile-based weapon. Right. They just unloaded a lot of ammo. That's some great bully work, too. The grrrr is coming out. But honestly, you would think each team probably has at least, should at this point have at least one Zack gun. You know, bringing in some heavier stuff. Oh, there we go again. Same call as last episode. There you go. I really feel like we should have counted the Wizard of Oz references. There's been quite a few. I'm really surprised we haven't gotten a good for crying out loud. He's been taken as a host. Excuse me? You're a little late. Daniel's giving him that. Dude, you're late. Not me.
[26:19] You may tell your kinsmen that Teal'c has returned to Tulak. You will go to every home of every warrior in this city. You will tell them that I will speak at the house of Braytech at dawn. This is a side of Teal'c we've never seen.
[26:36] What is that guy shooting at? He's got his gun pointed. Why are they wasting ammo on this thing? They played a lot of video games. They think that they can bring the health of the shield down. Gotta use disruptor ammo for that. That's logical. Come on, man. You weren't kidding when you said new season, new money. Right, right? I feel like I should be having a bigger reaction to all of this, but I'm just going to like... It's super cool. This is great. Anybody behind you no it's good tv right yeah take as many of the humans as you can't alive they will make an excellent addition to our new army of your phone what about house yeah you got some fully mature symbiotes in there, Got to go deeper. We'll try to send reinforcements through the Stargate exactly six hours from now. Coordinate your offensive accordingly. Roger that, sir. Or maybe tell them you've got a force, right, of Gould there and send your reinforcements now. Right. Or start shooting some missiles through there or something. I like how they're just sitting there looking at this thing.
[27:51] Send your people in hot. Let's go. Yeah, and since you didn't, you should probably close the iris. Probably a good idea. Sir, I'm sorry. It's not up to me. What plane do you think is there behind Major Davis? I don't agree with you. You will listen to what he has to say. Great score, by the way. Yeah, building nice and slow. Yeah, great score on this piece. Look how Braytac comes down to them to introduce him, and then he's up above. Like, this is this really good setting. Yeah. Oh, is he coming down too? Okay. The Goa'uld are nothing. Lies. We are their strength. We are their power. Until we choose to serve them no more. Strike. Strike. Strike. Strike.
[28:34] I was witness to the final breath of Apophis. I see cowardice. I see pride. I am ashamed. I see a badass mother. A tail fool of nobody. This is our time. Our time. I'm here. Right here. Come again. Up there, it's their time. but down here it's our time but first we must grow stronger as the people of the tari have done there's a great callback to thor's chariot right their potential and they're growing to gather weapons the forge alliances with other jaffa who seek freedom to show the go out we will do battle with them wherever they may be someone's gotta go first yep someone's gotta go first i'm Like, yeah, I'm not going to be just going to come over here.
[29:23] It's going to be that lady. The most vocal against him shall become his most vehement supporter. Or maybe not.
[29:34] Hey. Whoa. General. Surprise, surprise. Not what I'd call an army, but it's a start. Hammon of Texas. Master Braidock. Gentlemen, I need your help.
[29:52] Hammond came to get his boy. He called it earlier. Oh, Jack. Excellent. I wonder if Richard Dean Anderson had something else going on here or something. Because, like, The Grygen process destroyed it. Hasn't been in the episode. Before it had a chance to melt the host. He will revive automatically. You know, I always wonder when they shoot these episodes, do they do these back-to-back when they shoot them and then just save it for the next season? Because how do you schedule it otherwise? Hey, I'm going to need you in a couple months. Oh, hey. Uh-oh. We have hopes for you. Hey, wow! We destroy you for this! We just like you to go away! Oh! Last time it was fire this time it's cryo freeze watch her walk out of this one hope she doesn't hathor's one of those people like every time i see her, i hope it's the last time i see her yeah it's like oh god God. Oh, Hathor's... God. Forrest, there's changed much in that time. Forrest, this must have been a hundred years, man. There is an old Jafar saying, General Hammond. They do not build them as they once did. Here!
[31:14] Of course, we're gonna have to machete it out, but... You intend to fly this thing? Not I. You. Threading the needle? A skill for the young. There it is. Totally looks like a boss level in a video game. Is it detonate by Remark? Yeah. Are you telling me that it is? I don't know that it is, but it totally looks like it.
[31:44] Sorry. It's a good thing that she said to capture them. Right? Surrender now, or your friends will be killed one by one. Don't listen to him, Sam. Silence! He looks younger. I will give you one minute. You got a haircut. What can I say? The reinforcement should come through in a couple of minutes. We could detonate the C4. Trotsky's going to start shooting any minute. We've got to buy some time. Right. But if she consents the symbiote, couldn't he as well? What if they don't? What if they don't? They will. They will. I killed her myself. You should trust me on this. She went all, what was his name? Emperor Palpatine? She has no more. Right, yeah, down the, down the... Well, let's face it, she's a former queen. So why don't we just put an end to this right now? We will end this with your surrender. You guys might want to get out from in front of that thing. Tiring your weapons will be your responsibility, General Hammond. Understood. I got this.
[32:55] Hit him dead center of the chest right through the chest yeah Jack's like whoa what is that thing are you attacking his men coming in the flying Z yep, ha ha ha ha ha ha.
[33:16] Music.
[33:30] Denouement for this right all right jeff double episode in the can you have finished season two you have started season three what are your thoughts you've just watched these episodes for the first time out of mind and into the fire into the fire was awesome it was a great episode it was fun there were whole moments where like you and i were just quiet watching because like battle scenes were cool it was this end of the fire is an episode that like if i just need to sit down and watch an exciting action-packed episode that's that's a go-to there you go also hathor hathor gets snap married into a cryo freeze chamber and hopefully this time when she's dead it sticks right that would be good i am so disappointed though in the first episode out of mind my god.
[34:25] What a just a it was kind of a cool idea the way they were setting up the whole oh you're in the future it was cool that it was the year 2077 because for my fallout people that are watching you know what that means but it was a clip show i started like tracking which episodes that they pulled stuff from and then i stopped because i'm like it's i mean the cool thing is they literally pulled from like some of the best episodes that there were because we got like oh where is it here we got the nox we got thor's chariot torment of tantalus serpents grasp and layers spirits hathor message in a bottle a bunch of other a couple other ones there everything until you said hathor yeah but i had to throw hathor in because this was the sequel exactly hey remember this person you tried to forget because it was a terrible episode and not a great character well give us a chance to redeem that here we go we're gonna try and this was this was a worthy redemption of her like this was a lot more.
[35:22] Legit she was more of a threat you know in this one like I bought it I think it's actually kind of a cool insight into the Gould, culture right so like from what I understood she was trying to raise an army to really take her place among the system lords which was going to mean taking out some system lords.
[35:44] I don't know it's just kind of interesting like, we're awesome we're the ghoul everything's cool however we're basically the mirror universe in the original series where we have to kill each other to advance and can never trust anyone that's a good astute observation of the system lords for sure cool it came up pretty quick the big the big so close out my thoughts on out of mind the end of the fire started literally with colonel makepeace coming into general hammond and he says hey the sg sg1 team got captured they're over here and it's hathor that has them like in 48 147 seconds he covered the entire first episode didn't need to have out of mind at all and spoiler alert when we get to the ranking out of mind well the ranking was event in time out of mind is definitely going to show in the ranking of this one oh wow yeah it was i i it's not my least favorite episode of season two uh yeah but it would definitely.
[36:46] Be bottom three or four i gotta i gotta tell you on a personal level i tend to enjoy clip shows yeah for whatever reason i like i think they're fun it's a fun little romp down memory lane or whatever um i usually like the wraparound story i think typically the wraparound stories for clip shows tend to be pretty good yeah in this one yeah it was uh yeah it's interesting yeah not a season finale no at all not a season finale no i mean it's interesting it's the season two close for stargate the season two close for next generation was a clip show with a.
[37:22] Wraparound story as well yeah kind of interesting really the big thing in this though.
[37:27] Is okay outside of them touching on a whole lot of just they tied you know connected a lot of dots in this it was cool the tokra and everything super cool but to me the thing out of this is tilk of every character on this, right? We, we look in stories like this in television series for that arc of growth and change in characters. Um, Going back to Star Trek, The Next Generation again, that's one of the biggest complaints some people have on is many of the characters at the end of the series are pretty much the same person they were at the beginning. Not all of them, but quite a few of them. And so it's like, oh, that's seven seasons. This happened. Tilk is my favorite character on this show. He has been for quite a long time. And Christopher Judge just plays him to perfection. But he's been kind of, they've all been a little like, I'm just this person doing this thing, you know? And we've seen a little bit here, a little bit there. But in this, we saw an evolution in Tilk. We saw fire, right? He was intense, and he was yelling and knocking people out. And then he gets all of these Jaffa and other people that are left on Chulak together. He gives this just incredible speech, just trying to pull everybody together. And he just said these incredible things, right? The Gould are not gods. We are their strength. We are their power.
[38:55] And I feel like he quit the SGC. I don't know if that's going to stick or not because he quit in front of a not real General Hammond, I think. And because that was not clear, right, what Tilk was experiencing. I think it was part of the thing. But either way, he resigned at one point. He's wearing a robe and has a staff and everything. But I feel like we're going to see Tilk with a new mission in going out to form, go find all the Jaffa that Braytac, you know, has set up. But the people who feel the same way. Right. Season three, my guess, is really just going to be a lot of his journey. And this was totally an episode of epic speeches. Hammond, ready to go in. They're going to go save SG-1. He gives his war speech. You see why he's a general. Like, he's done stuff. He pulls everybody together. in that moment where he's like, I don't want to command you to go do this. So if you want to do it, just take one. And then everyone takes one step forward. Like they know what's coming. They're like, dude, we're in. Yeah. It was great. And then we saw the, to wrap up my thoughts. I mean, I don't, I mean, this is fun as a great episode, but not.
[40:02] A lot of thoughts outside of that, but Braytac whips out this really cool old ship that he's been holding on to for a long time that Tilk flies. It was pretty cool. To me, it looked like if you took a original trilogy TIE fighter and combined it with the hyperspace rings that the Naboo fighters used in the prequel trilogies. It's like a hybrid of those two things, but I hope we see more of that ship. I like that quite a bit. And before I ask you to share any of those sci-fi messages that you might have found in here, all I got to say is, yee-haw! That was great. I love that. I need you to pull that clip and put it on one of your hotkeys, Jeff. The thing to share. It needs to be the sound drop for a future game on another show or something. I'm pulling the time. Every time we make a Stargate reference, it's a yee-haw!
[41:02] So with that, Brent, what sci-fi messages did you find? Man, I was struggling on this one. Not just because it was late, but that certainly was a struggle too. But I was paying attention. Unlike last week where I literally just got so wrapped up in the episode, I forgot. Like I was actively looking. I did come up with a few things. One, you referenced just a second ago in Tilk's big speeches. He's talking about all this stuff. You know, he says those gold are nothing without the Jaffa. They're nothing. The power of the people over the man, so to speak. If those Jafal choose to rise up, Gould ain't going to stop it. Game over. You know, even with all their magic and technology, they ain't going to stop it. But juxtaposed, let's do that favorite word there. Juxtaposed to how it works between Tilk and Hammond. Now, I want to clarify the Hammond thing for you. Yeah. But I don't mind. That was real. Was it? At least as far as the way I've interpreted. You guys out there, write in, let me know.
[42:03] I've always interpreted that as real. I've had no reason to believe that that was anything different. It just seemed really fishy. like it wasn't like they were so worried about him like running off and doing a thing it just it felt fishy yeah i i think you were so in tune with it being like that at that point that everything kind of sort of maybe felt like that maybe possibly um but no.
[42:24] I you know they said they found tilk next to the gate versus the other guys like oh yeah you just got sent back here through us no i think they legitimately just stole sg1 i don't think they thought too much of the show va i don't think that too much of the teal just leave him behind he's a servant he's a whatever let's get the road people yeah you know yeah uh so so that was that was really happening there yeah tilt quit but notice what happened he said i i've got to take my leave and hammond resisted and eventually hammond relented right yeah like what's hammond gonna do till quit on you you're you're literally gonna arrest me and throw me in jail now right that's that's the only way you're keeping me you know i'll i'll punch in the numbers up in the computer myself i don't know how to do that you're going to literally hold me captive here if that's what you're is that really what we're going to do here after all we've done together after after all of our friendships this is how we're going to go out like can't do that and hammond relented yeah he saw you know so i there there is a a thing a mess i don't even say a message just a theme here of what happens when the uh for lack of a better phrase the working class people rise up against the masters rise up against i don't know you call them the proletariat or something like that you know uh so so there's that was that really what this whole episode was about no was that what did did the writers ever say let's have this let's.
[43:52] Have this discussion between the two no do i.
[43:54] Think that they did something with hammond and tilk at the beginning to set up and and did they go into.
[44:00] We want to show tilk beginning to raise resistance people we want to show tilk beginning to pull people away we want to show tilk let's remind everybody what tilk is really out here doing right yeah like daniel is on a daniel and tilk are two people who are on specific missions being in part of sg1 jack and sam it's kind of their job their job yeah it's their interest Daniel's trying to save his wife Tilk's trying to free his people And as you pointed out Tilk took a great step forward Maybe several steps forward In this particular episode.
[44:32] Towards that daniel still can't figure it out if he's married yet or not right he's it's been so long and he's just like i just keep showing up i got a haircut so there i've done that that's my growth as a character right now but there was one other that i saw that i do think this is uh this is an intended message although probably not the message of the entire episode though maybe it is is it really what was what was this episode all about rescuing sg1 okay okay yeah.
[44:59] Right that's if you boil the entire episode down into what is it they got captured we're going to get them yeah and and i mean how many sg teams do we send out after him how many people went after him whole went after him everybody did what we had to do we all went after our people to go get our people major davis says at one point it's just one team is it really worth it hammond looks back at him and just goes you've got a lot to learn about how we do things around here yeah you know and then you referenced it earlier hammond goes in he asked for volunteers before he's even done asking for volunteers they're taking one step in unison yeah ready to go uh loyalty not leaving a person behind going and getting somebody doing something about it uh being about your team about your people being about the individual about the human we talk about how to be better humans to one another there you go we're gonna go after our one guy there's four people at three there's three people out there we're gonna go get them we'll find out where they are we're going to stop at nothing we're going to go i a thousand percent believe that that was what this this episode is about uh i think it actually tracks even with what we were just saying a second ago about teal can the jaffa and teal can and hammond um i think it was replete really all the way through yeah uh jeff i i can't sit here and give this one seven chevrons i didn't know that i can give it five chevrons but this is this is a solid three or four chevron episode you had me nervous there for a second that you were going to give it five or something like that. And I'm like, I agree. That's a good message.
[46:29] We saw it with Hammond. We saw it with Tilk. They didn't have to go and save them. He could have gone and started recruiting his Jaffa and gone after, you know, whatever. Yeah.
[46:36] So, yeah, it's totally the message, but five would have been too many. So where are you landing on it? I'm a little nervous. Three or four. Can I go wishy-washy? Can I be three or four? Three and a half? Right in the middle. We'll call that a 3.5, yeah.
[46:47] Yeah, we'll call that right in the middle. I'll call it right in the middle. Cool. Yeah, which is very weird. I'm still getting used to this new seven system because I say five feels like it to me, you know, but there's a few more. Well, they're still getting used to the seven. Yeah, I'll go three and a half. They're still getting used to the seven, you know, in the Chevron.
[47:03] So they've used it once. so well you know we we got the gay technician back so yeah we're in good hands now so that's awesome yeah three and a half i think that's a good rating well jeff i do ratings you do rankings you kind of teased this a few minutes ago uh you my friend get to place these episodes in our 100 completely accurate and definitive ranking of stargate sg1 season two and three we're doing both jeff i last last uh what do we call it um last go round last two-parter last season ender there you go now you smushed them together as one and you left them together as one you put them all into the season two category you don't have to do that you can separate these two completely different episodes you may want to do that how are you going to rank these two episodes out of mind and into the fire i appreciate you saying that that could happen because i hate what will happen to this pairing as we get deeper into season three because into the fire was a great episode it was awesome out of mind was worthless and so i am going to split these up i'm going to put out of mind into the season two ranking into the fire the number one episode of season three so far there you go there's the easy one now with season two it gets a little complicated because we literally watched one of.
[48:26] The worst episodes in all of sci-fi in season two yeah in one false step so here's what i'm going to do.
[48:33] I will tell you this. Listen, you put it where you want to put it, but I'll go ahead and say it. I will watch hands down. I would watch, uh, one false step. No, um, out of mind way before I would ever, ever watch, uh, false one false step. Oh yeah. So what you're going to see here, what you see is I, uh, put out of mind is the new number 20. There are 22 episodes in a season although we combined you know some two-parters i have a blank at 21 and i have a one false step you're gonna do the thing i'm gonna do the thing you're doing the thing aren't you it was that bad of an i'm here we are a couple weeks afterwards i'm still gonna beat up on one false step it was offensively bad but out of mind the number 20 episode for season two jeff you know somewhere out there there's an sg1 podcaster that feels about one false step the way you feel about TKO. That's true. Absolutely. What do we always say? Every episode is somebody's favorite. Every episode is someone's favorite, except for one false step. It's objectively terrible. Objectively. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. I'm a bureaucrat. I can use whatever word I want.
[49:49] All right, Jeff. Well, with that, we are out of time. This is going to do it for us here on Stargate SG-1 for the first time, talking about Out of Mind and Into the Fire, officially done with Season 2, officially kicked off into Season 3. Jeff, next week, the name of the episode we are watching is titled, Get Out Your Pen and Paper. You ready? Seth.
[50:09] Seth? Seth. Like, the name Seth. Seth. That's my boss. What do you think Seth is all about? That's my boss's name, and he's a great guy. I enjoy working with him a lot. And so here's what I'm going to say. Seth is going to be about a really great person who comes in and really helps develop all the leadership within the SGC. You're not a good guesser. That's a terrible guess, right? What the heck?
[50:33] Is Seth going to be introducing a new recurring character? It's going to be a big deal named Seth, and he's going to come in. Is that what this is? is seth some other race that's out there i don't know so you know what i'm gonna do i'm gonna say it's an episode about my boss but we'll find out next time right here on stargate sg1 for the first time thank you guys so much for joining us hanging with us for a double length episode, these feel it man i feel these double ones you know definitely feel these double ones hey don't forget to subscribe wherever you get your podcast or wherever you are watching this and please leave us a rating and review if it is available we always appreciate that and please be sure to share this podcast with somebody who you know needs to get some stargate into their life whether they love the show or whether they're getting into the gate for the very first time just like my buddy jeff over there nope he's over there over there and uh yeah so with that guys until next time we'll catch you later and we'll see yeah so again that first episode out of mind.
[51:39] Yeah a little bit of a different take on it I liked it a lot better the first time I saw it when TNG did it and called it The Mind's Eye oh for crying out loud, The Mind's Eye.
