[0:11] Welcome to Stargate SG-1 for the first time, still not a Star Trek podcast. My name is Jeff Akin, and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the first time. And I'm Brent Allen, and I'm also watching Stargate SG-1, but I'm watching it for the 47th time. However, for the very first time, I am looking for what Stargate is trying to teach us. I'm watching through that lens of what's the show trying to say? What are those sci-fi messages? Holding up mirrors to society, giving us hope that things can be better in the future, or can we just plain be better human beings to one another? Brent, this week we're going to watch Stargate SG-1's version of Take Me Out to the Holosuite. This is Fair Game. This is going to be the sports episode of SG-1. We'll find out here in a few minutes. Why don't you tell us about Fair Game? Yeah, sure. So this is third episode of Season 3, Fair Game. Original air date, July 9th, 1999. Right in the middle of summer. You know, Stargate wasn't necessarily, I guess, one of those kick it off in September and run through April type of shows. You know, they took advantage of the off seasons for all the network stuff. Right. Right. Very much so. Today's episode is written by Robert C. Cooper, directed by Martin Wood. Two names you should be very familiar with.

[1:23] Jeff, I have a list of notes prior to watching the episode. They're all going to have to wait till we're done, though. Oh, wow. Bunch of stuff to talk about. Some fun stuff. Fun little tidbits to go through. But with that, Martin would didn't Martin would direct just like two episodes ago. He was out of mind, I think, was the last one. Yeah. Martin would directs like a bunch of stupid number of episodes. Yeah, he is. And Robert C. Cooper writes some stupid number of episodes like that. There's a few guys I'm going to point out every time. Peter DeLuise, Robert C. Cooper, Brad Wright. These are the guys I'm going to point out. Everybody else is just sort of the jobbers coming in and out, you know, right. Popping in. Yeah. Yeah. But with that, Jeff, why don't we go ahead and jump into this episode, Fair Game, and find out...

[2:10] Exactly how high we can run up this score but first here's a question i was like what score oh because the sports episode yeah it's the sports episode here's a question if they were going okay so there's uh the niners yep right and then there's the fivers are these guys the wonders they're the wonders the owners yeah okay all right let's go watch this episode hey listen if you guys are joining us for the very first time first of all welcome you're amazing you're awesome thank you guys so much. We try to make this up front as short as we possibly can. I'm making it longer by talking about how short we try to make it. Here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna watch this episode. We're gonna do it right now. If you're watching us right now, that means you're either on YouTube or Patreon or some other video streaming platform.

[2:54] If you're on YouTube, you're gonna catch us doing the reaction. We're gonna get that kind of chopped up piece that's all nice and good and pretty. If you want the full unedited behind the scenes version, head over to our Patreon page at patreon.com slash Bye Nerds! And you guys can catch all of that action over there. If you're listening on an audio podcatcher, that's what they call those things, but a podcast app, you're about to gate into the future where you're going to hear my for the first time reactions. You're going to hear the sci-fi messages that Brent found. Also, the massive list of notes that he's already teased. So why don't you join us on the other side as we watch Fair Game. Chevrolet 7 locked.

[3:43] You risk your lives every day in a way more dangerous and fantastic than any of us could have ever dreamed tilk's digging this understand that i represent every person of this great nation when i salute your ongoing heroic spirit you should be we just can't tell anyone about you Ever. Although I know you just fought this big intergalactic thing, but no one else. I have one other small bit of business. Please come to attention. From the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, in recognition of Captain Samantha Carter's outstanding work, I hereby authorize her immediate promotion to the rank of major. Oh! Man, Jeff, she didn't even have to wait seven seasons. Yet you have fulfilled it.

[4:30] Music.

[4:43] Those are good salutes. There you go. Here's the thing. Jack knew that was coming, right? He had like... As our supervisor. Jack O'Neill would like to say a few words. He likely had to sign off on it. Normally... He looks good. I am a man of very few words. There you go. That was very few. Hold on. I like how nobody's like rushing to protect the separatists. Like do they not get secret service or something i'd like to say his speech was normally i'm a man of very few words and in conclusion i'd like to say, prediction before it shows anything uh-huh asgard you're a good guesser.

[5:26] Music. high five jeff look at that greetings i am thor he didn't meet thor he didn't right that was carter and daniel yeah yeah it's very true all right so jeff not the hollow suite program maybe maybe they're gonna play the asgard no probably not please be the asgardians, Can we please? Did I tell you who voices Thor? No. Michael Shanks. Really? Yeah. Now, he did not voice Thor the first time we met him back in that one episode. But from here on out, every time we see Thor, it's Michael Shanks. That guy pulls like quadruple duty so often. Oh, sure. We received word of what transpired with your people in the Gwagol named Hathor. She had it coming. As a result, Gwagol system lords have turned their attention towards you. What, for killing Hathor? They should be thanking us. She was planning to overthrow them, you know. Her intentions are irrelevant. Earth has once again proven it can be a formidable threat to the Gua'uld.

[5:29] They got a special interest in him they're tracking him they're watching him,

[6:35] They have decided it is a concern to be dealt with. Okay, that could be a problem. The Asgard agree. I have come to offer our assistance. That would be appreciated. I've seen your work. It's great. The vast majority of the Asgard fleet is currently unavailable. Oh. So you get me. Yeah. Don't worry, I can take care of all of them. With your permission, the Asgard will attempt to negotiate with the Gold System Lords to include Earth in the Protected Planets Treaty. Interesting. That's a good thing, right? Would prevent this attack. Good. To be honest with you, I'd rather have a fleet of your ships here. A few of these babies and we could just... Have you heard of this treaty before, Jeff? I don't think so. No. We could try the negotiating thing. I will contact the system, Lord. You may return to your back now. Yeah, that was the note I just made. I don't think I've heard of this Protected Planets treaty. And how do I get back? Excuse me? Mm-hmm. I assume someone's going to show me the way back.

[7:35] Thank you. They should have put him right in the same place, and he should have just continued his speech. That would have been great. But we know very little about the politics. Daniel's hair is looking better. How do we know the Asgard truly has our best interest at heart? I suppose we don't. But if they have any other agenda in mind... They're going to tell us about it right now. Right. They're just creepy looking. I'll vouch for him, sir. Yeah, I don't think our security would do very much, to be honest. Right. He's not wearing pants. Major Samantha Carter, Dr. Daniel Jackson. We've met. He has Asgard BD energy. This is Teal'c and Major General George Hammond. He's the leader of our facility here. The system lords have agreed to negotiate. I think I don't care. That's good for you guys. They will arrive in four days. It is customary for such negotiations to take place on the planet in question. You must be prepared to speak on behalf of all the inhabitants of Earth.

[8:32] Well, maybe not me personally. Three system lords. We're going to see some new people. I don't think that we know three that are still alive. All right, now see, that could be a mistake. You see, Dr. Jackson here is an extremely educated and articulate man. Very well versed in all the language. Anybody get the license plate of that bus? People into the galaxy through the Stargate who are our choice, O'Neal.

[8:52] Further instructions to aid you in preparation will follow. Jack's got to be the diplomat for the world. For the world. And no one else in the world even knows this is going on. Right. No pressure. There you go. Isn't it wild to think that this, that could be happening right now? Oh yeah. We have no, we're just, you know, showing up, we're arguing about politics and whatever and stuff. And in the meantime, like Thor is underground in some military and they're, they're literally negotiating for our lives. Yeah. I mean, it's probably the benefit of having a representative government, a rep, like instead of a, just a straight democracy where everybody gets all the information. Cause that could go bad real quick. It's probably one of the main benefits of having that sort of a situation like like i almost want to be elected president for the sole purpose like i just want to get the you just want to know yeah give me the briefing and then i resign i'm out like right i don't want anything to do with this job chronos was also a mortal enemy of apophis which may indicate why the system lords didn't join an apophis attack on earth do you do you know do you remember jeff the other thing about Apophis and Teal'c? Okay, so... He was his prime, I know that. Do I know? Teal'c was his prime. No, Teal'c was Apophis' prime. Yeah, yeah. Is that what we're talking about? Did I say Apophis? I meant Kronos. Okay. Do you remember the other connection between Teal'c and Kronos?

[10:11] See, this is where I talk about... What's great about the show is even though we have all these issues of the week, stuff comes back again. If you remember the episode Korai. Yeah, yeah. Okay. in the episode Cori, we discovered that, was it Cori? I'm almost positive it was Cori. Regardless, that it was Kronos who killed Tilk's father. Really? I don't remember that. You don't remember that? Yeah. Mm-mm. Yep. It was just sort of this little throwaway line they pulled. So if you look, Tilk is not happy that Kronos is coming. He is pissed. So that's where this is coming from. By the way, that's one of those things, typically, Jeff, If this was B5, I'd be like, no, no, I'm going to not tell you that to save that for the second watch. We're not doing a second watch here of SG-1, so I'm going to make those connections for you a little bit here. Appreciate it. For those in the room who don't know, Nerty is the ghoul who wiped out all but one survivor of P8X-987, along with four members of the SGC in an attempt to destroy Earth's Stargate. Cassandra's plan.

[11:11] Little is known about Nerty from Earth's perspective. In early Hindu reference, she was a destructive... So you got that? Once again, another episode, and we're coming back to it. And I actually remember this reference, because I think we talked about Nirati a little bit when they mentioned it. Yeah. Mentioned her. Only back then, Teal'c referred to Nirati as a he. Oh. Rear as a she, so, you know, whatever. Cool. You know, whatever. Let's switch a host here and there. You know? Back and forth. One way or the other. God. There you go. Hindu, right? Goddess of darkness.

[11:42] So we're going to let these go. We'll just walk in here. By the way, you now have a Greek god, a Chinese god, and a Hindu god. Uh-huh. Thank you, Doctor. And a Norse god. Yeah, with Thor. This is the first time with the ghoul that we're seeing more than Egyptian.

[11:59] It really is a big deal, though. I mean, what's to stop them from just coming through together and blasting? One Asgard saying it's cool. I mean, you've never really met the Asgard. Like, just outside, like, Jack went to another galaxy and met a couple of them. And had a conversation. A conversation. There's no formal diplomatic relations, there's no... ...world activation.

[12:26] Music.

[12:34] Interesting they all came together. I mean, I get it, time-wise, but it almost would have been better if they all came from their own place. But they're probably doing the same prep that SGC is doing. They had to make this room up like this for Harry Potter. That's a hell of a rider list, isn't it? Right. I'd like a football helmet filled with cottage cheese. Your idea of accommodation is pitiful. We do have fire in here. You do not stand for this!

[13:03] What is this about? Your crude surveillance devices were poorly hidden in our quarters. I will not be spied upon, nor will I. Well, no offense was meant by it. It's merely a security precaution. I'll ask if we can remove the cameras from the rooms, but we'd definitely like to leave them in the hall. Maybe explain why. If Tilk comes to try to kill you, we'll have it on video. Do not show your face to me again, Shulva. Kill my token. I want the translation of that. I think we know what the translation was. I think it starts with the word go and ends with the word yourself. Yeah. I often did battle with the Jaffa of Cronus. Nervous? I wouldn't call it nervous. Confused. No idea why I'm here. This would be a cool time to bring in that SG team. Was it SG-9 or 11? That's the diplomatic SG team and just have them briefing O'Neal. I didn't want to say anything because I wasn't sure until I saw his face. But I think Cronus is the one who sent the Ashrak to kill Jelinar. You should probably keep Sam away from the negotiations. I hate having him anywhere. I don't want... I do not want them here or there. I do not want them anywhere. I do not want the ghoul or Jaffa. I do not want the system lords. I lost my... That's all. Come on in. That's all. Nice they happen to have a... Hello, you? Pentagon table just laying around. Well, I guess we're just...

[14:30] He brought his own chair and everything. Right? And here he is. Gang's all here. I thought we were all going to speak the same language here. Point of order.

[14:42] I thought he hit his head. What did they say? You insulted them. I insulted them? By speaking out of turn.

[14:51] This was to be expected. Maybe a little heads up on decorum. The system lords have a fragile relationship with one another, as do we with them. Why did you let the ghoul get that much power in the first place? I mean, if you've got the technology. We are not proud of the fact that we have been forced to ignore the situation as long as we have. But you must understand, there are other concerns for the Asgard. We have an enemy in our home galaxy that is far worse than the Goa'uld.

[15:19] Worse? Basically, you guys are bluffing the ghoul, big time. So far, they've been so busy badgering each other, they bought it. I must return to my ship now. You figured us out, I gotta go. We'll take time before the system lords will be willing to reconvene. A lot of this should have been discussed before the system was shot up. The fate of this world is my hands and I screwed up. Yes, I agree with that. I think you do apologize. According to treaty law section 326, no human planet will be allowed to advance technologically to a point where they may become a threat to the Goa'ul. You are correct. Definition of such threat shall rest solely in the hands of the Goa'ul system lords. What? As you said, it's a pretty non-specific and vague thing, and she just called it out. Mm-hmm. May I ask a question? Human representative is recognized. Thank you. Ah, there we go. Are you saying you're limiting our development? The treaty recognizes that the human species exists for the purpose of serving the Gwaum as hosts and slaves.

[16:27] Excuse me? Do the system lords accept the Asgard proposal? What? Does Earth accept it? If I heard that right, the deal is they're just a farm planet now, basically. Say that one more time. So if I heard that right, Earth, under this treaty, is just a farm planet for the Gould now. No, no. What they're saying is that, so far, it's in exchange for including Earth, the Gould will now have access to some weird passage that we've never heard of before. Yeah, Nylor. Right.

[16:58] But then it's also saying that, hey, no human planet is allowed to progress to a certain point of technology, which, hey, by the way, when you ask why all those planets out there are living in the past as opposed to progressing any further, that's a part of it. And by the way, this is just saying something that's already in the treaty, that no planet's allowed to pose a threat to the Gould.

[17:21] That is, I guess, that is under the protected treaty. But the thing is, what if Earth is already a threat to the Gould? Yeah. I mean, they've killed one. You know, they've killed a system lord. They've killed three. Two. Three of them, yeah. Two system lords and a third Gould. You know, anyway. I don't know. Was Seth a system lord? I think at one point. At one point. So, yeah. so they've killed three of them already so yeah certainly a threat right um but uh uh i think at this point they're making a statement and cronos just said the treaty recognizes that humans not necessarily earth humans exist to serve as hosts and slaves for the gold that's why they kept the tauri yeah that's why they kept the tauri around yeah i mean yeah and and put them all off there so it's not saying that earth is just becoming that they're just saying this is why you guys exist but we'll put you guys under a treaty that says we can't touch you you know okay, so they've all agreed and you as saying they demand one additional concession before this is finalized okay any guesses on what the one additional concession is they want Sam they want Joel and our.

[18:29] You're a good guesser. I demand one additional concession.

[18:36] We order the immediate and unconditional forfeiture of the Tauri Starking. Oh, there you go. A little bigger than Sam.

[18:45] Both of them. Oh, dang. They know it's like, ah. Yeah. I mean, I can give you the one. Are we seriously going to give up gate travel? Considering the alternative. There are other threats to this world this treaty will not protect you from. From what my buddy Thor tells me, an enemy far worse than the Gould. If any of you can tell me absolutely why we should not accept this proposal, I will forward your opinion to the president, and I assure you, it will be given serious weight. Ooh, how fancy. Also, Mr. President, Jack was given the authority to negotiate on the people of Earth, not just the United States. I wonder if this is a test by the Asgard. like let's just lay out the worst possible situation for you that has some wrapping paper on it that makes it look like hey it's cool you know you'll live they're putting out there because they said the tauri are going to be the fifth race so like are they like where are they in that development so like they're legitimately setting them up with a bad deal to see how they react that is an interesting idea i would i would uh i would feel a lot better we should do, We accept the terms, son. Daniel, you want to tell him we're ready? Smart. Jack's not pushing back in here. He's going to go in there and tell him to fly a kite. Security to level 25. Medical team to level 25.

[20:07] Uh-oh. Ah, it's blood. Lots of blood. Out of his head. Never good. Hello. That's up to him. And a larval ghoul. Oh, he should only be so lucky. Severe internal injuries and his host is dying. Oh, sure. Just a snake. Taking care of him? Based on what I've learned about ghoul physiology, the symbiote cannot heal injuries this severe on its own. We have a security videotape. You'll want to see this. Jack's not going to have to make a decision. You're going to kill Kronos, and then it's just going to...

[20:39] This is a fun episode. I keep, like, having these theories come up. This is well done. I like it. The hallway sounded the alarm. Brought you here because we want to know if there's anything either of you can do for him. He's dying. We can do nothing here in your primitive facilities. This is a setup. They set him up. They want to take Kronos out. This is their chance. I love the whole sci-fi wave of light over it thing. His injuries are too severe. The only way to save him is with a sarcophagus. It's like they shouldn't necessarily be so eager to save Kronos. You must let them take Kronos. They'll attack us. I don't think they are eager. I think they're playing a game. The rest of the system lords will attack regardless. We cannot interfere without beginning a much larger war that cannot be won at this time. You are basically ants to us. Commander, you release us. We must leave now and take Kronos before his death is on your hands. Planet will suffer the full force of the system lord's wrath that's going to happen whether we let you go or not i'll find it to every cold land editor for these negotiations the escort will not protect you actually you're wrong about something there's one rule we haven't broken yet.

[21:54] Now we now we got them all before i could leave we were attacked by whom an invisible force uh-oh invisible force Hathor had the ability to appear and disappear okay she's dead, right please tell me she's dead please I did not attack Cronus I'd like to try something.

[22:17] Uh-oh I'm gonna Jolenar him my mind to your mind, made it work before just not on a living thing and the hand blasty thing worked for me all right why didn't you try this before why is sam doing this i mean if near t couldn't make it work why does sam think she can because she's major carter that's a that's a good answer i mean really why does sam do anything because she's major carter yeah you have healed me human i am sure you spared my life only to prevent your own destruction hey we didn't do this to you. Not to get all Sherlock Holmesian on you, but... That's obviously everybody. That one of them did this to you. What if I can prove which one? What's that worth to you? What do you ask in return? Put us in the treaty with no concessions. I'm just saying maybe it's time we take a page out of the Asgard book on dealing with these ghouls. And bluff. Sounds risky, Colonel. Don't all bluffs come with risk? Isn't that the point? Uh-huh. You lied to us about being able to heal Cronus with that hand device. But the fact is, you are the only ghoul here who has the technology to become invisible. That's a lie. Who's lying? We called the Tok'ra. I see you've been experimenting with phase shifting in order to battle the Ritu.

[23:43] Share this technology with the system, Lord? You dare attack Kronos and deball our meeting with the escort. It's not true. You are the one who opposed this treaty. You belong to Captain Kronos territory. Pretty sure she just said go to hell oh invisible drop the weapon just shoot her, right like ever seen one of these things work because there's nothing more i'd like to do right now than demonstrate she ripped my robe chronos said he'd.

[24:22] Music.

[24:32] All be warned. Anyone who is caught by one of the system lords will be shown no mercy. They will suffer greatly. Well, that certainly makes life more interesting. And kind of how it was before anyway. A little more explicit. I would have pushed harder for the whole don't technologically advance thing also. If you're one of the system lords. Is she gonna? No, on either side. My heart bleeds. For Jack. We're not giving up the gate, and we can develop. The Azkars just now left yep just left he was there the whole time because i i know what this i got it yeah yeah.

[25:21] All right jeff you have just finished watching fair game for the very first time i've watched now for the 48th time looking for messages you get to take us through your first time viewing experience let us relive it through you buddy what was it like well it wasn't a baseball episode there were no sports in this one truth so a little disappointed about that but you know what you know what i love i love bureaucratic episodes we're like oh gosh you would wouldn't you i yeah totally like uh so your thing tng's ensigns a command right with the shelly act and they're like diving into their treaty and everything i love that stuff and they did a great job with this one this was i i i love this episode this was great it had intrigue it had politics it had a promotion we got major sam carter now which is pretty exciting yeah we met three new system lords we met chronos you and nirty who jack calls nerdy that's pretty great and we learned a whole lot we had thor on board as well and we learned about this uh protected planets treaty and the Asgard are trying to help get earth under it. Yeah.

[26:32] Gosh, there are just so many, even as I'm talking, there's so many layers to this, this episode. So for the record, I do think we've heard of the protected planets treaty for everyone out there. Who's watching, I fully confess this might be just what's in Brent's head, but I do believe the planet of Samaria, which is where we first met Thor or the old Viking planet. I believe that is part of the protected planets treaty, which is why they had Thor's hammer on that planet. Okay. To protect the planet. I believe, I could be wrong, but I believe that that was a part of the Protected Planets Treaty. And I did misspeak earlier. I don't think it was during the episode of Korai where we learned that Kronos killed Tilk's father. I think it actually might have been this episode where we learned that we killed his father. Weird that I hadn't heard that then.

[27:19] I would be surprised if Samaria was part of the Protected Planets Treaty because, and this is just my understanding, they wouldn't need Thor's hammer there to protect them because they have the treaty. And as soon as that hammer was down, the Gould, they were in, they were attacking. And so, I mean, that would completely violate the treaty, as I understand, my limited understanding of it. You're right about that. You're right about that. And that's why I say I think it is. But, you know, as shows often do sometimes, you know, sometimes he turns into a she all of a sudden. Why not? Yeah. There's a lot of layers to this episode. Like, as I'm thinking about it and talking about it. I don't mean that disrespectfully to any of our trans friends out there. That's not please don't take that that's not what I meant for that Well, if anything else, I think it's validating, right? Because that's what happens. Yeah. Well, in this case, I'm literally just talking about the transition between Nearty, who is referenced as a he, and now all of a sudden Nearty's a she. That's all. Yeah. The retcon. Just the unspoken retcon. Go ahead. A one-letter retcon. Yeah. Add an S. There you go. It happened to spot. Many times. Yes. Yes. Give me a buzz.

[28:30] We got a lot of buzzes in this one. like we said they were not playing the rule three anymore we would have lost it within the first like eight minutes of the show right so as i'm thinking about this and talking about it like there's more and more layers to this and like the complexity of the episode is really starting to like i'm really starting to notice it because on it on the surface this is a direct follow-up from what we saw with uh with last week with hathor right and killing hathor and so oh my gosh gosh, you killed Hathor, you're a for reals threat, so the system lords are coming for you. They're going to take a break from their infighting, because one of my notes was like, they're always fighting each other all the time. How are they such an intergalactic threat when they're always fighting each other? And we got a little bit of an answer on that, and that the Asgard have a greater enemy in their galaxy, so they're like, yeah, we can't do anything, you know? I mean, good luck. Imagine the Gould if they were aligned. Like if they had one system Lord and they united them, it doesn't matter if you have five races, they're going to bowl over everybody. Well, and that's what they, and that's what Thor said. Like their greatest fear is that the gold would unite under a single system Lord or something like that. Yeah, that would, that would be bad, but it's on the surface.

[29:49] They're coming to blow up earth and Thor comes around to say, Hey, there's this treaty. We can negotiate our way to some peace. And it's a pretty crappy negotiation where it's all, you know hey you can give up this and give up this and give up that also give up both of your stargates and then hey we probably won't attack you so how do you go and so that's that's the surface level of this but then you have this other layer in here of the infighting of the system lords going on that just played out as the three representatives that were negotiating another layer of we didn't get confirmation on it but what i believe was thor testing not only jet not only humanity thor testing not only humanity but jack specifically.

[30:37] The last time we saw the Asgard, fifth race, right? Here you are. You're going to be, you're on your way. You have great potential. And Jack's like, bro, we're already out there. We're doing this now. The Asgard are like, can we, can we engage? Are you ready for that next step? And so I believe that he intentionally set up just this crappy deal for them. Like nobody in their right mind would take just to see if Jack had the guts to stand up and say no. Or even better what happened here figure out a way to get everything you want so we had this whole i mean god it was just great excellent jack episode he shined in this whole thing so here's a question here's a question near t never confessed to being the one who got chronos right like as far as we know it just so happens she has a technology to make herself invisible which she showed us and then she went a little crazy and tried to run away but there was never a okay yeah I did this. So was it Thor that did that? Was it actually Thor?

[31:40] You know, and Nearty was just running because she freaked. I love it. Creating the situation and everything. What's Jack going to do when I put this thing into play? I love that idea. And the validation. I'm sorry. That would be antithetical to who Thor is as a person, as a character. But I'm telling you that, that it would be antithetical to Thor. But it could happen. I mean.

[32:03] He, it was clear to me that he is, he's Thor, he's the god of thunder. Yeah. But there's also a council, an Asgard council that kind of tells him what's up and what to do. Yeah. Maybe this wasn't, yeah, they're like, hey, go, go do this thing. We need, don't kill him, right? Just, just go knock him out. See what happens. Create this situation to just like, where are these people in, in their development? Mm-hmm. The validation we have that that might have happened was... Before the attack, Thor's like, hey, I'm out. I got to head back home. There's some stuff going on. And then the episode ended with him leaving. So he stuck around the whole time to watch. What I'm excited about now is like Earth is in the intergalactic politics now. Not only are this this force that are popping up on planets and causing problems for the Gould, they're a force to be reckoned with. They outwitted the Gould. Who cares if Nearty did it or not? jack made a huge kirk level bluff that not only paid off it paid off to the point that like they almost killed like you and nearty almost killed each other is i'm sorry i'm gonna take that back this was not kirk level this was sheridan level oh wow wow yes maybe maybe even sinclair level.

[33:20] Like i mean that was pretty good it was amazing yeah yeah yeah so this was a great episode i i had a couple other little notes on here just like uh thor pulled the whole star trek thing of hey they're coming to blow you up but we're the only ship in the sector so you're not going to have a lot of help from us and my thought was like if this is such an existential crisis for the potential fifth race where are the knocks where are the furlings right like there's these these other races that we were told about and i can understand the knocks they're non-violent you know but but hey bring them in and maybe help them come up with a thing what about the tollen what about the tollen what about any of these people that we've made friends with that minoan society or those guys the burka divide people like those guys at least have sticks and stuff like this could have been that episode where they all come together and then we get a big fight i like though what we got better than that at this point there's the whole thing about tilk and his dad tilk really this was like we've been seeing a lot more emotion out of tilk he's been getting fired up things like that And here we saw him, I mean, he didn't do anything wrong, but he refused to support the Gould that were coming on board. He refused to give up his weapon. There's my little thumbs up for people because now you know I'm on a Mac.

[34:37] So there you go. But no, this was, I really, and the more I talk about this episode, the more I really, really liked it. They even introduced a politician, Secretary of Defense Sims, and he wasn't like just this horrible, evil bad guy. Like, how amazing is that? So I love this one, Brent, what sci-fi? Well, first you have a list of notes to share. Yeah. Then I want to know your sci-fi thoughts after that. So short, short little handful. One, let's, let's do our update our count.

[35:07] Uh here we got one for crying out loud in this episode and uh that is going to bring us up to 16 for crying out louds by our count we also have five five daniel deaths on screen five i think i said three there's been five that's a lot of times dying do we want to three seasons do we want to count his butt hairstyle as it like that finally died hopefully that was permanent i gotta tell you when you watch the show and you go back to the beginning and you see that hairstyle and you're like oh my gosh uh and we still have one tilkin deed so those are those are our three tracking pieces right now uh yeah a couple of notes uh we do note sam got her promotion to major sorry harry kim you still have to wait um we mentioned near t um everything going on with that what i love about the near t thing and and even a few of the other things we've seen in this particular episode even bringing back thor more of the system lords which jeff i know you've wanted to know more about the system lords this has been a thing that you've you've uh said i told you there's an episode coming up this season it's going to give you some answers and more insight into something you've been wondering about and this this is what i was referring to but i i love this just goes back to prove that so you had that cassandra episode which seemed very episode of the week here's this person how many times have you seen cassandra since then twice maybe three.

[36:34] Times and in pivotal stuff that was pretty cool thing right but.

[36:38] It's not like she's like a part of the cast now yeah part.

[36:41] Of the story right but all of a sudden we bring back near to so we're we're bringing back we're interconnecting things a little bit more making more connections.

[36:48] Which i love quite a bit um but uh the other thing is uh we brought back that the chronos is the Ashrac or the gold who sent the Ashrac to kill Jolinar. That sort of stuff. Yeah.

[37:02] Just the show is connected. It's not serialized, but things do matter and come back again. But the other thing, too, there are things I mentioned this during the watch through. There are some things, Jeff, that I would love to just sit back and be like, I'm going to not mention that or bring that up. And I'm going to let you catch it on the second watch. You remember in season two of Deep Space Nine when we first got the mention of the Dominion? Yeah, there's a little a little little throwaway line that had nothing to do with anything else. Right. You got one of those lines in this episode. Actually, I think they mentioned it twice. It is the enemy of the Asgard in the other galaxy. I'm positive of that. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. We are going to meet them later. I'm not going to tell you who they are or what they are, but we are going to meet them later, and this is that sort of reference. They're already seeding that idea, which is pretty cool. Okay, on to our messages. I really enjoyed this episode watching it for messages this time.

[38:06] Sorry, in a way that I never have before. I love this line. Jack asked the Asgard, if you have the technology to stop them, how did you let these evil ones get so powerful?

[38:18] And his answer was like, we're not really proud of it, but we're kind of dealing with our own stuff too. And basically we're bluffing because we don't really actually have that power. You know, I don't know that there's so much a message as much as that is. A lot of think of times a mirror of society. There are things like there are things we would love to stop evil that we would love to stop from around the world. But it turns out we got our own crap we're dealing with. What is that own crap we're dealing with? Well, I think it might be reflective. A lot of mirrors here, Jeff, more reflective of what's going on with the system lords. The system lords are at the mercy of the Asgard, not because the Asgard are actually that powerful, but because they're fighting themselves. Yeah, right. Jeff, I dare say you could put this probably into any just about any political situation out there across the globe. The reason certain people are in power is because everyone else is too busy fighting themselves. As long as you can be key people fighting themselves, you can stay in control of them. Because what is the thing that they fear the most that we would unite under a single banner? Nothing more powerful. Nothing more powerful, you know. And that's not just political. that's not just country think about unions yeah and how that works with with uh you know if if they freaking would just unite under one deal look what can happen look what can happen but bigger than all of that.

[39:41] Jack is asking thor what do i do thor won't tell him i love what you said jeff i've never thought of it before that this is actually a setup from the asgard the entire time a testing if you will i've never thought of it that way i never thought of the ship flying away at the end is actually they're sitting there watching the entire time you know and he's like you have it within you to make the right decision and in the end guess what jack and jack's the one who comes up with the idea he does jack does have and and it's the beginning of the episode what do we see jack's like no no don't choose me don't choose me it can't be me we've got other people and then thor's like no no it's you buddy it's you i've got you and then thor later goes i'm not telling you the right answer you've got to figure this one out on your own and he's leading him he's pushing him forward.

[40:28] And you know at the end chronos turns around is like if you continue to use your stargate when we meet you we'll show you no mercy and jack's like whatever yeah we'll get you you stop it we'll get you okay well i guess it just makes it more interesting while we're out there um, say hi to raw or apophis or hathor or how they do or seth when you see them like whatever we could have let you go but we didn't uh but i i just i there's such a uh hope that we can be better in the future. We're getting there. Go back to, you've referenced it multiple times today, Jeff. You are the fifth race. You have the potential. You're getting there. And Jack says, we're there now. This is going on.

[41:11] Hope for being better in the future. You know why you can have hope that you're better in the future? Because right now, you're better than you think you are. Think about it.

[41:21] Boom. Think about it. Jeff, this one to me, out of seven, five chevrons. Five chevrons. Five chevrons. You could possibly talk me into going a little higher, but I really like it. I actually have four written down in my notes, but I just said that line right there, which I hadn't even thought of until in the moment. That's getting a fifth chevron. Let's go. I love it. That's great. I had a whole thought additionally on there's a great undertone. Undertone is a big part of the story of vengeance right these things happen i'm going to seek out vengeance but everything that you said is so much better than that i think five chevrons is a great call on this one all right well jeff i do the rating you do the ranking where do you place this one in our season three 100 completely definitive ranking of sg1 currently our uh season ranking is number one into the fire number two seth where do you place number three fair game it's going to be a top five episode i can promise you that much bro this is this is probably going to upset some people this is our new number one episode it should be yeah i agree i agree i love i love this episode i thought you would i really there are sometimes jeff i just i i like jeff's gonna like this episode and i'm just excited for him to get to this episode because i think he's gonna to like it totally one of them well speaking of that jeff uh that is going to wrap up this episode fair game next time we are watching an episode called legacy.

[42:49] Legacy. What is legacy about, Jeff? What do you think?

[42:53] Legacy is going to, if I think about a legacy that exists in Stargate that would be meaningful to the show, I think about the Stargate program itself. We got a glimpse into some of that history in Tormant of Tantalus. We got the tiniest look in 1969 to some of the personnel and things like that. So I think that this is going to go back even further, right? Because the torment of tantal showed when we discovered the stargates but they were here for a long time so i think this is going to be some we're going to meet somebody get some retrospective we're going to hear about the history of the stargates on earth interesting you're a good guesser and we'll find out next time right here on stargate sg1 for the first time actually i already know jeff doesn't though we'll figure it out thank you guys for joining us don't forget wherever you guys get this show please be sure to like subscribe rate review all those sorts of things and please please do share this show with somebody that you know who loves sg1 or is in dire need of getting into the gate just like my good buddy jeff over there so with that being said until next time hey brent jeff yes what's up pal hey i i don't think we can release this episode okay why not.

[44:14] So I was looking over here at our charter that we wrote for our podcast here, and according to section 447, subsection Alpha Bravo, line 42, we're not going to be able to take any of this stuff and use it online because the paragraph is explicit. For crying out loud, Jeff. Jeff.

[44:40] Music.
