SG1_312 Jolinars Memories

Transcript

[0:00]Music.

[0:35]Welcome to Stargate SG-1 for the first time, still not a Star Trek podcast. My name is Jeff Akin, and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the first time. And I'm Brent Allen, and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the 47th time. But for the first time, I am looking for what Stargate is trying to teach us, those sci-fi messages. You know, those lessons that hold up a mirror to society, give us hope things can be better in the future, or just plain tell us how to be better human beings to one another. Strap in, everybody. We are going to be here for a while. We're watching two episodes today. We're watching episodes 12 and 13 of the third season of SG1, Joel and our memories and the devil, you know, my guess on the first one.

[1:20]We're going to experience some of Joel and our memories and then the devil, you know, right? Hey, maybe you think, Hey, Hey, he said the thing. He said the thing. Why not use the thing to describe the thing for the devil? you know.

[1:34]I think we're going to find out the Tok'ra aren't, uh, the angels that we've been led to believe. We're going to have some Hammond and Jacob stuff and, uh, we'll culminate in basically like, well, do we, we go with, try to find a new devil or do we stick with the devil? We know I'm excited for these Brent. I've loved all the Tok'ra and Joel and our stuff. Why don't you drop some details on these episodes for us? Well, I'm not going to hold this out too terribly long. These are the 12th and 13th episodes of season three, as you've mentioned Joel and our memories and the devil you know air dates october 22nd and 29th i always find it interesting with stuff like this like sometimes they air them together like as a solid episode they didn't um i'm not sure if this was sweeps week or just middle of the season two-parter that they wanted to do they didn't go into a into a break or anything after this so it was a great confluence of events right because this is the the second one the part two is their halloween episode and it says devil that's probably what it was i didn't pick up on that but that's that's absolutely truth that's how both episodes here are directed by peter de louise uh so we'll be on the lookout for that cameo that we know he's going to drop in there uh as far as writing it though the first episode is written by some newcomers i'm not even going to bother to say their names we're never going to see from them again but the second one is written by stargate big wig robert c cooper.

[2:55]So strap in for that. They have never missed on an episode that they have ever written together. Yeah, they have. Anyway.

[3:04]Never, except for the times they did. Yeah, yeah. But for the most part, you know, it should be pretty good. I don't know. We'll find out from you, Jeff, what you think from your first time watch. I'm not trying to color it one way or the other. I'm just going to let you have that first time watch. With that being said, let's go ahead and jump into all of this. If you guys are joining us for the very first time, you guys like, wait, haven't you watched the episode yet? Haven't you watched already? No, we're not. Because what's getting ready to happen is Jeff and I are going to watch the episode together right now. We're going to do it. And if you are watching with us on YouTube, you're going to get our reaction to the next two episodes. We're going to do them together as one. You're going to catch that reaction. If you want the full unedited double feature length way, head over to our Patreon page and you can catch all that over there. At patreon.com slash Bye Nerds! If you're listening on a podcasting app, we're going to meet you on the other side. We'll probably do a check-in between the two episodes, as we tend to do on these two parters. But we come back after The Devil You Know. I'll share my first-time reactions. Brent will share any of the sci-fi messages that he has pulled down. We've got a lot of SG-1 in front of us, Brent. Let's kick it off with Joel and R's memories. Let's kick this pig. Geron 7 locked.

[4:31]What's up receiving gdo transmission it's the took I like how she asks the question, but he answers to Jack. Maybe.

[4:42]Jack's your CEO at this point of view. True. True. But she is still his superior officer, really. Mark 2 How are you? Score one for the toker, Jeff Samantha Colonel O'Neill Who knew? Well enough under the circumstances It's my father I'm afraid he's been oh man oh my god as far as we know he is still alive as far as you know you are familiar with the way sokar has assumed the persona of the entity on earth known as the devil yeah a bit pretentious i would think you must understand when i say that if salmak is still alive he has been sent to hell as detroit a place of eternal suffering and damnation shout out to our friends which there is no return so we got two episodes here that are going to be as on the nose as possible with i you know what i'm i'm disappointed in myself i should have done the socar and devil math in in my prediction i was i was wondering about i was so focused like on the macro i was like what's the saying of this mean bush league man bush league nature is a moon that orbits sokar's home planet very hot moon i take it i am sorry samantha, Natu is the planet. Natu is the moon or the planet. I hope the planet is Gehenna.

[6:08]Oh! That's why we're going into Jolinar's memories, Sam. Buckle up.

[6:18]Probably the trauma.

[6:24]Flashes of her memories occasionally some dreams certainly never anything like this place you're described the tokra have technology that so does that fish guy from way back you must be willing to use it well if we're going to share why it always trips me out when you first meet joel and r a full military it's always a she will be impossible right because it's always a she from now on out selmex recovery is obviously a high priority however and forgive me samantha but there is something larger at stake here the tokra believe that socar is about to launch a massive attack against the system lords i was gonna say maybe you led the news the chaotic and fetal disorganization of the system lords fragmented rule is a far more vulnerable target than that of one powerful goa'uld especially if that gold is sokar that sounds like some stuff we have going on here on earth all the gods he picked to impersonate he chose the devil without wanting to sound overly dramatic the fate of the galaxy may be at stake not being too overdramatic but sounds yeah thanks jack sounds like we can't repeat, Colonel, you have a goal. When do we leave? As soon as you're ready. If you're all sure, you understand what you were volunteering for. We're not volunteering. We just got ordered to go. Right. The guy with the stars, he just said we're going. He said hell, right? Yeah. He volunteered us. We're going to end up there sooner or later. Might as well check out the neighborhood. If someone doesn't shout out before they go through the gate, I'll see you in hell. Right. Exactly. They're doing it wrong. They're doing it wrong. I mean, that's so sad. Like, that's like when you get to December 31st, you're like, hey, see you next year. Right. Oh.

[7:49]This is where we need chevron guy chevron guy just to be like hey colonel there is good luck i want to see you again those banished that are taken by ship the ship looks fine this is the same tell tech in which jolin was found adrift it was severely damaged when we found it the essential flight mechanisms have been repaired however the hyperdrive engines can only be run at 40 percent without the same set flash gordon used well you know it's good when they have a whole series of these ships out there what isn't teal coming with us he cannot the atmosphere around the moon is impenetrable by ship the only way to reach the surface is in the descent pots and there are only four pots correct shall we embark by all means of all the people to be the wheel man with us to be the escape car driver teal is not the guy no like it should be like daniel uh-huh hey so daniel we're heading into hell with the car yeah we got it figured out you told us everything we need. Right. We'll just look. You're going to put your hands on each side of the little light thingy. That's all you got to do. And there you go. Let's hold it down. If we're not back in two hours, wait longer. Some of Samantha's own personal memories may come out. Out of respect for her privacy, we will not be using this part of the technology. What a gentleman. Thank you. You can describe what you see. I'm ready. We get to see it, though. No respect for Sam's privacy with us. Aw, it's Dad.

[9:18]Not this one, not this one Oh, this is with his mom Why are you crying? Where's mom? Oh god, That old device works better than MDMA Right back into those memories I'm gonna go out to the mountains I'm gonna go camping one day And I'm gonna take this little thing Yeah, 100%. Trying to get in touch with my thing. Get in touch with my inner self. Do some inner child work. I see it. I'm a traveler. I'm a little disappointed they have an actor for Joel and R that's not Sam. You didn't speak of show. You know what I mean? Like, that's pretty. You both know it was dangerous, but she had to go. I gotta tell you, so far this episode is kind of what I thought this was going to be, but in a much more disappointing way. Hmm. I understand there's going to be more coming, you know, so it's like, okay, they're just going to do it like this. But now we're gonna get like some dives into who Joel and I was or is it was Joel and I children are dead. Oh.

[10:30]Hey pause i'm gonna open up can of worms right now jeff oh no here we go you know where i'm going with this no i don't think so okay them diving into her memories in that memory of what happened with joel and i getting stuck with the little pain stick pain giver pain giver yep we'll call it and her having a visceral reaction that matched the memory i get this i have no problems with this when you give me a guy who supposedly has had a psychotic break but actually might not have had a psychotic break and he is walking around the room with his hands out like he is in some sort of memory but he's not really in that memory at all and he's not really like he's actually here that doesn't make any sense you're going back to daniel no i'm going back to a late delivery from avalon oh god york and that whole thing where like he you know at some point somebody stabs him he's like oh like that no that never happened it never happened yeah that was his manifestation of his trauma that was what that was and he played it out like it was real that is a can of worms let's go ahead and put that lid back on people don't want that Sorry, I didn't mean to.

[11:45]You're like, it just has to be said. I just, oh, it was so bad. In the year 2047, Brent's still gonna be bringing up Avalon, being like, I tell you, it's not a good episode. But I will at least always preface it with, you know what's gonna happen in the year 2047? Jeff's still gonna be bringing up TKO as being like the best episode of the series. 100%. Here we go. Dude had like a devil costume and everything. Like Sokar is all in on this metaphor. I saw someone.

[12:21]We have arrived at the coordinates. He's like, so once you get out of here, Tulk's going to have some alone time. Put on a minimal setting so that you may continue to work through Jolana's memories as we go. I'll leave it there so you can be in multiple places at the same time. Sokar would not send someone down to Natu with weapons. Yeah, so? If they were discovered on you, the denizens would know we were sent by Sokar. We must attempt to blend in the hope that we will be allowed to move about freely as the name is. Okay, here's our drinking game for the show. Okay, well, it says the word denizens. We're not going down there on our arm. So, how do we communicate with Teal? We believe this device will penetrate the atmosphere. Yeah, he's full of ifs and maybes. We believe we should be able to speak to Teal as long as the ship remains in orbit of the moon. I like that he's popping it like it's a walkie-talkie. Teal's probably like, stop! God, it's so loud! Hey, wasn't that thing a bomb last time? It was. And I think Daniel's looking at hell. Are you prepared? Uh, no. Not really. It's a good life lesson. Are you ready for this? Nope. Hey, you're going anyway. Here you go. Better get ready. Honestly, fatherhood. Right? Hey, you ready for this? No. Not too bad. Here it comes.

[13:34]That's. This way. Now imagine you didn't come down with friends Intending to go to hell What do you do when you get there? That's like exactly what hell looks like In your head That was a really well put together scene.

[13:51]Wizard of Oz. One of these runs through Stargate. I'm going to count the Wizard of Oz references. Howdy, folks. We're new in these parts. I know that's... Get their shoes! It's true. There's going to be a repeat of prisoners. There's going to be the one guy that controls the food. Carter.

[14:22]Not good. Bynar. We've come to see Bynar. Who are you? I heard somebody say, Is that Jolinar? We've come to see Bynar. You will not banish them to the surface. I don't think so. You shoot someone who's already in hell. Back off a little there, folks. Uh-oh. Not far. He took that bullet like a champ, man. Who asks for me by name? Your old girlfriend. Right. I'm Samantha Carter, host of Jolinar of Maltzor. There goes your old girlfriend. She's got another host body. Take their weapons. Throw them in the pit. That's pretty good, Jeff. He's not into sloppy seconds. Throw them away. What made you think Bina would be sympathetic to Jolinar? I was sure he was the one that helped her escape. I'm glad you're sitting down. I need to talk. Why? She, um... Yeah, Martube just did that math. Have you ever seen Deep Space Nine? Look, he's the key. Kira's mom. Now, Binar may not have knowingly helped Jolinar, but I'm sure he must know how she escaped. This is how we still have Kira around. Yeah. Dad? I am crazy. A little bit.

[15:44]Apparently. Are you okay? No. Look at him. Look at my face. A dumb question. How you doing? How you feeling? He's dying. Been good? Awful. Yeah. Some vising. This will help. They are intruders. Find out what they want, then kill them. I had hoped to take my revenge on Jonor slowly, my lord, to see her suffer in the harshest ways of the dead. Go now. Report back to me in one day. Heed my command. Or in one day. I was like, just report back to me in some day. Why is it got to take a day? Like you literally, I should hear back from you in like 30 minutes. It should not take far. Find it and destroy it. What's he looking for? It's my lord. The ship. Oh, okay. The ship that came in.

[16:35]Yeah dude hey like this whole thing you want she's not here anymore that ship sailed a while ago it's not me i held her for like two days chill look at what so car took from me because of her why did you just get another host got all these denizens out there snag a new one, don't bring up logic and plot holes here why did you come here although that now brings up a good point every time we see a dozen isn't a sokar here now or hell or whatever like that could have been a new host for for binar exactly big strong buff intimidating that's the that's the requirement yeah where is she she's with binar or at least she's intimidating you got all the time in the world to get buff binar is the key to our escape he's sokar's eyes and ears here well eye and ears at least this binar is speaking in more than just a few like leaps, He goes back and forth. He's either at one or the other. How do you know? I saw him there before I was captured. You know how he gets there? Well, that's how we get out of here. She gave that to you. Oh, no. That's how she took his... Oh. shut up and watch.

[18:03]There's the escape route there it is I won't get the same satisfaction from killing you but it'll have to do but I will get some he's gonna get some alright no wait, uh oh what he's the Tok'ra he's the Tok'ra been planted there for gold knows how long. Ha ha ha! Ha ha! What's going on up there? Naonak just killed Bynar. What? Why? I have no idea. Bynar was about to kill me. Naonak came in and shot him with his staff weapon. The denizens will riot. Don't throw it away. Brilliant. Naonak opened the door, let him go, and will be able to stay in place without giving up their Tok'ra.

[18:56]What? The cargo ship has rings. The ring mechanism has sensors that can locate other rings. Tilt should be able to detect coordinates. Same question for every man all over the world. I'll take those odds. How do I line this up? How do I find the right position? Basically, they're going to ask Tilt to become a Nogstool and just seek out the ring. Hey, he could have been the new host for Bynar. Right there, he's got a good mustache. Or maybe that guy. He's a pretty imposing looking dude. Although he got taken out by Jack. Jack's no joke, though. It's true. I feel like they've been preparing for this episode since episode one. How do we shoot really important action scenes completely in the dark? It is much better, isn't it? Yeah. Like, I mean, it's still dark. Miles off. You can kind of see what's going on. Red gives it that glow. We got that guy right there. He's quick, you know? So many options. We'll take time. Take all you need.

[19:59]That guy with no shirt on? Perfect Bynar. Oh, my God. Look at that guy. That'd be a better Bynar. I was going to say, any of these guys would be a better Bynar. I wonder if, like, does the ghoul just get attached to their host? Yeah. We're almost ready. It doesn't seem hard. Like, Joel and I just pop over. No big deal. You know? And when the dude went into Kowalski, no big deal. That was a baby ghoul, too.

[20:29]He's got to trust at some point. He's got to do it. Naonak's got the key. Naonak's got a ribbon device. That should clue you into something there, Jeff. It's Gould. It's not just a Prime. It's not just a Jafar. Kneel before Naonak. Naonak's not Tok'ra. Naonak just wants to be in charge of Naonak. He wanted Bynar's position. You shall call me Naonak no longer from this day forth. I will reclaim my real name.

[20:52]Music. Oh man wow.

[20:58]Skara. Is that a pop? What? What? What? Yep. Or as we like to call them, The Phantom of the Opera. Phantom of the Apophrysa. Wow. Wow.

[21:31]All right hey jeff so we've just finished watching the first half of this before we jump into the second half give us a quick you had a big surprise right there at the very end give us your quick reaction to joel and our memory huge surprise last week they totally dropped the ball with the ending this week knocked it out of the park freaking apophis is back holy crud i dug this episode i'm like i am the cold open to this one we talked about during the episode was like they needed four words and we're in all i needed to see was that we taking off a little thing and being like i am up office i want the next episode like i am so in right now this may be a question for on the the back end so remind me when we get there but my question to you is how surprised were you to see apophis okay yeah that's a good question because the last time we saw him he dead and he went and he went to sokar like like that's the last we saw was he dead yeah that's it dead dead dead and they reinforced it in an episode earlier in the season rules of engagement so you know i want to know how surprised you are for that because i remember my first time watching it and then i know my reaction every time subsequent to that so uh let's jump in to the hey jeff the devil you know oh let's jump right into him oh there you go.

[22:55]So car sent word to me of amonet's death i did not believe it believe it well believe it it's true he is loving that moment right there and it must also be true that tilk is the murderer oh that wrap up thing's real nice for you wouldn't it why is the shalva not with you, this one conceals something yeah because he's like oh i'm talking to him on this thing Way to drop it, Daniel. Good. A communication device. I like how they didn't actually give it a name. It's just a thing I can use to talk to people. This is your God. Risen from the fires of May 2. The fate of your friends will be pleasant compared to what I have planned for you. Return them to the pit.

[23:37]Hey, Tulk. It's Apophis. Down the planet below. No, no, no. Tulk, this is your god, Apophis, calling you from the fires of May 2.

[23:46]I warned you when you said Apophis. I will say, I think this is my favorite Apophis. Really? I would rather see his victim suffering than dead. Phantom Apophis? Does that call him? I don't remember the actor's name, but he, just in this little bit like he feels more comfortable like open hope to defend himself from sokar he seemed pretty confident to me pappas has one chance he must convince sokar not to kill him if the reason is good enough he may even be able to buy his freedom triggered a whole fan base with us the information we hold the secrets of earth and the tokra that was a much longer cold open yeah and and honestly not as effective as the first one not that nothing i'm not excited for what's coming up, but I was, skip the intro, let's just go. Now it's like, oh, okay, here's where it is. Apophis speaks! I like how they put the devil you know with Apophis coming forward. But he cannot make our existence any worse. He could come in a ship and wipe the ship! It's actually harder to hear and understand you with that weird voice. I can deliver us from this place. I have killed the devil's servant. I will destroy Ahsoka! Say again? Those that follow and serve me will be led to freedom. Peter Williams. I say, let him die! Maybe. That might be it. I think that might be it. The attack on the system lords will begin sooner than planned. You will have the fleet ready. I'm guessing Peter DeLuise and his cameo is just the very best we can do. I think he might have been the Jafar guy that he just flashed to a second ago. Oh, okay.

[25:13]I don't know if you want to take it back and look, but it looked like the devil used to me. Tilksa doesn't know that Apophis is back. He's just flying blind, waiting for the rings.

[25:25]When it's fully activated, it makes your memories easily accessible to your conscious mind. Yeah, he really is a great bad guy here. Yeah, yeah. Like, this is a much better Apophis than we've been. Like, he's not just... Right. I won't tell you anything. Yeah, like... And here he's like, I'm gonna mess you up and laugh about it. He's doing it himself, you know, like... There's a real trigger with her and that sound of stuff getting poured in there. The blood of Sokar will cloud your mind. The blood of Sokar. I'm having flashbacks to Temple of Doom right now. Totally. What's under its spell, you will tell me everything. Kalima. Kalima.

[26:11]I forgave you long ago. Yeah, fight it, Sam. Right. The same memory. Do not live here. It is not linear. I guess if we never had this conversation, neither one of us would be in this mess, would we? I would have gone on hating you and the military. I never would have got involved in the Stargate program. You would have died of cancer. You know, anything from forever in a day, Sam, it's you're in the same memory because you've got to learn a lesson. Now you can save me. Tell me how to get home. Yeah, Poffice is in there.

[26:43]Yes, so good. Very Freddy Krueger right now, isn't it? Yeah. No! Tell me how to penetrate the Earth's stargate. Tilt, this is your god, Apophis. Risen from the fires of nature. I want that to be my ringtone. I'm going to pull that down. I'm going to pull that down. Do we know this guy? Is he just one of the other Tok'ra? It may prove invaluable. Random Tok'ra. I have come seeking assistance in order to rescue my friends and your fellow Tok'ra. Oh! He's just going to like, just plop into people's memories and mess with them now. He's like, this is fun. Oh. Oh. That's dirty.

[27:25]It's almost like they live in a place that specializes in how to torture people. Right? Think about seeing your grandchildren again. Don't make me have to explain this to them. Haven't you explained that Grandpa's gone because he has something living inside of him and he's living on another planet? Is this any harder to explain? Or two. Hey, Grandpa's in hell now? If they come for you. I saw him there. This is not like anything. Hell is real, kids. Everything seems real. And then suddenly everything seems real. Yeah, it was like, I can't watch my parents get crushed by rocks again. Please, no. Just don't let Apophis use Shalinar against you. We're changing everything just to make it better. I know. Jack's already replayed this in his mind. Can we just play catch? Countless times. What really happened is you got mad at me and I went into the house. Two weeks from now, I shot myself with your gun. Your gun. We never played catch today and we never will.

[28:18]Why can't we just play catch i'll play if you tell me if you tell me that.

[28:25]That's dirty yeah yeah because i'm telling you what i was just thinking i love just going out in the yard or out at the field or whatever and playing catch with my kid right like i love it like we just we just hanging out throwing a ball back and forth like it is a it is a a love he's just interesting can we just play play catch and he goes sure i'll play catch with you i'll do this thing that every father is supposed to do with their child and and and you love if you tell me this like that's dirty the thing you want more than anything ever here it is just give me some numbers just need some numbers that's it yeah right he's like more so than more so than like you did this and you did that and i did this like more than that like hey if you do this i'll do that about the carrot and the stick what do you want to know tell you anything tell me how you made contact with the asgard this isn't you sure it is come on dad we'll have a catch, just like you want kid said that perfect have a catch i am to launch it through the atmosphere of the moon the entire moon will explode taking sokar's ship with it along with everything else on that moon the tokar would not do such a thing unless there was no alternative sokar cannot be permitted to rise to a dominant power. What if rescuing my friends and the Tok'ra still trapped on that world? I am charged with my mission. If you intend to stand in.

[29:49]Insist that you remain here on vorash i will accompany you because i'm going to stand in your way uh-huh then we must leave immediately i literally this was the plot of the movie really yeah was that we got a bomb i'm gonna blow it up uh wait maybe not people are there uh, thing is though if you do the math right just just math their plan makes perfect sense blow up this moon, kill a couple hundred people, take out Sokar, save billions. If not more. Needs of the many. That's our sci-fi message. It looks like it might be. They put that damn memory thing on me. I wonder if on a someone with a symbiote in them, does it go back through the symbiote's memories as well? Or because it's here, does it just go through the host's memories?

[30:43]Oh, man. Jolena, where's your mate? Hey, babe. Tell me the location of the Tok'ra resistance or she dies. Don't do it, Mertouf. Silence. Marty's going to screw it up for everybody.

[30:57]Tell me. Tell me why. I can't let him kill you. This is when you tell him some other planet. Like, he can't verify it right now in this moment. Dantooine. We're on Dantooine. He has no Stargate to go to right now. Like, he can't prove it. Just tell him something. The Tok'ra resistance is based on the planet Antak. Bring me Daniel Jackson. This is fun. Keep him coming. Let's do this. I love that Daniel never gets called Daniel. It's always Daniel Jackson. Antak is a primitive planet. There are no Tok'ra there. I actually forgot that, Jeff. Really? I didn't know. I really did. What does he want from Dr. Jackson? He wants to know about how Amonet died. He wants all the details. Yep. And wants to mess with Daniel. Mm-hmm. You can never give up. Never let her down. How about now? Especially now. Never run around. Never hurt her. Charay didn't want you to. Or you. As I recall, she wants you to find the boy. Oh, he knows about them. Well, of course he knows about the boy. He's the dad. If only that was the real Jack. What did you say? She called the boy. Called the boy. Our ceases. Name of the place Amonet sent the boy. Apophis pushes too hard too soon. No, I'm not telling you. Be a great guy to play poker with. Come on, you know me. I just can't remember. I can't remember. He's like, hmm, I don't know. I'm all in.

[32:17]You told me before. No! No! Hear me, Bainar. Why do you defy your lord, Sokar? Bainar is dead by my hand. I am Apophis, and the Benizans of Natu follow me. I am calling you from the fires of Natu. I will bring the full force of my weapons down upon you. You will die in burning hellfire. Down here we just call that fire. Or home. First you will hear me. I have learned much, including the location of the Tok'ra resistance. Mmm, Sokar's thinking about that. Grant me an audience. I'll kill you. And allow me to show my reverence to you by bowing at your feet. Gold can't say no to that. I will grant you. They're going to bow? Sweet. He punched him in his pouch.

[33:06]That was smart. Yeah. He's like, this is really going to hurt. Dang it. We got to do it. Got to do it. So far, we're done. I work for the U.S. Government. and I have a dental plan. I will command his domain. He will not let you enter his ship with weapons. Whoa. Right in the patoon. Boom. It's the same way Judd Fry tried to kill Curly. I managed to get this. Tell everybody. Nice. Oh, I'm just talking to my buddy here with this communication device. Can Sokar's ship pick up the transmission? The signal is coded. Teal'c, it's Carter. Wait. Seriously, dude. That Tokra is about to get it. Yeah. Tilt.

[33:52]Well. That's a really good aim. I understand. How did it not burn up on entry? What the hell is that? Yeah. To get it through the atmosphere, that's like shooting a womp rat back home.

[34:08]You have 90 seconds to GTFO. 12 minutes until nato is destroyed how much time is left in the episode why i am here with the tokra aldwin he has launched a weapon into the moon's core which will explode destroying sokar's ship which is in its orbit tell me the location of the tokra rebellion that is only one of the many valuable things i have learned office is good at this he knows what he's doing, why do you try my no way they're killing this dude already tell me and i will grant you don't Is this the first time? Are these episodes the first time you're seeing Sokar? Yeah. The Tok'ra are based on the planet Enta. They kept him under a hood for up to the very end of the last one. You also saw his face come through the iris in heat waves or something. Yeah. Way back a long time ago. What is the meaning of this? I recently conquered Enta. Oops. There are no Tok'ra there. Are you sure? Kill him. Again. Go! It's a good thing she knew there wasn't anywhere else for all that to escape, but she totally understood the, Tunnel system, right? Dude, if they kill Apophis here, I'm gonna be so upset because he is... I love this Apophis. Listen to me carefully! In order to intercept the.

[35:30]Between Sokar's ship and the planet, if you do not come to a complete stop, we can miss part of the matter stream. Your friends would die. And that's only if Sokar doesn't blow us out of the sky. A moment ago, you said there was no way to intercept them. Almost there, Teal.

[35:47]That just looks rough. Forgive me. The fires of NATO are erupting, my lord. What? The ship's sensors indicate that the core of the moon has become unstable. That is impossible. I control NATO. We must move this ship. Oh, my God. kill everybody else around him and let those two live, catch us talk about playing catch right? Right. Here you go. Have a catch. They're here! Go! Go! Captain, we have them! If it was Star Trek, is what you would hear. Thanks. Did Sokar's ship take off? Did I not catch that? Or do we know? I'm sorry. I doubted you. I am as surprised as you that we survived. Thank you. Water. Water is good right now. Do you have any leave coming up? I was thinking maybe we could take a little father-daughter vacation. I hear Alaska's cold this time of year. Alaska's cold.

[37:14]Music. All right jeff um first of all welcome back to all our audio folks who have gated through two episodes you and i have just watched joel and our memories and the devil you know back to back right here right now we just finished 30 seconds ago take us through it your first time watch talk Talk to us about these two episodes. These episodes are pretty ridiculous. If I'm being honest, I'm going to encapsulate the ridiculousness of them and just this one thing. So like pick up my phone, right? I'm a normal, I'm a normal person. I'm going to say, Hey, Brent, it's a pop is. How's it going? I'm down on natu, uh, need to talk about something really quick. But here's this episode. Brent, this is Apophis, your god, calling you from the fires of hell on Natu. What?

[37:19]So that's the planet looking at the moon's bottom. Oh, my God.

[38:23]And he said it multiple times. I love, I love, I love that Apophis is back. And you asked me between episodes to remind you to ask this. And I want to start off with this. How surprised was I when Apophis showed up? As surprised i had he was dead to me like apophis was gone he was dead we were finished well played by you as we were kind of going through the gold that had been killed you're like oh yeah but but you know apophis died from something else so they didn't really get they didn't kill him yeah he wasn't dead and and i and i always said and they sent his body to sokar exactly and his body to so car and i gotta i gotta tell you um for okay did you truly believe when we saw apophis die and they sent his body through the gate he was done 100 you thought he was done done like raw hath or seth now so car like dunsky so the funny so yes but hindsight already shows me like in sci-fi you don't see the body right and what we saw was a somewhat living body going through well no you No, he was dead. He was dead, dead, dead at the end of that episode. That's right. They just gave him the body, didn't they?

[39:38]They literally. And I, because I remember being so shocked that Apophis was back. It was like, oh, they brought him back. And every time I watch it now, because Martoof's in that episode as well. And he says, he says in the episode, Jeff, you go back and watch. He says in the episode.

[39:55]Yeah, he's got a, he's got a sarcophagus. He's probably going to bring him back and he likes to torture his people. So he's just going to bring him back and torture him a whole lot. So like he tells you in that episode, Apophis isn't dead, dead, dead. Like he's going to come back. They tell you. And I was like, yeah, I totally thought he was dead. I'm glad you missed it. I'm glad you thought he was really dead. I like from the show's standpoint, how we had that episode earlier in the season where they reminded us he was dead and they showed it to us again with the rules of engagement episode. So i i like that they had those good good part good good ploy on their part to throw that in and keep that fresh for a show that doesn't plan you know necessarily arcs or stories and stuff like that this was like perfect it was so good yeah he literally like so let me just read through my uh my journey on this so i started off talking about binar where i'm like okay she says there's a go old that is less than attractive. And as soon as she said that, my note is 100% Joel and I slept with dude to escape. So we knew that was coming and then we got it.

[41:05]Then, where is it here? Oh, casting on the Binar. I thought the casting for Binar was really good. And then Naonak comes in and blasts Binar. So I'm like, prime dude, Naonak is Tok'ra. Oh my God, he just took out Binar. Wait, no. What? It's Apophis. I can't believe it. It's just so perfectly done. I have questions around what happened between Sokar receiving Apophis and then him ended up undercover on natu like did sokar think he was dead and sent him like because he's clearly on the right side of his face like he's been through some stuff he's a phantom of the opera thing going his teeth are all messed up he wasn't like that when he died on earth he was old old man apophis yeah yeah so he's been through some stuff he also he's clearly been through a sarcophagus to get young again yeah with hair and like.

[42:03]I loved uh i just said here the acting of apophis is next level like just the way he was in the character it was fun it was fun to watch him doing this stuff this i think like this was a heavy episode and it had a ton of lore and story in it but it was fun at the same time yeah i think.

[42:24]I i love how just evil apophis is i think this is the first time for me well maybe not the first time but this is it's really remarkable to me that my favorite parts of this show like even as i look at my notes nothing to do with the sg1 team yeah i i the story and the acting and the draw for me was apophis and socar i want i want that show i want those two like at each other's throats you know and trying and going after each other i am these are two characters apophis to me up until this point was the big villain but he was kind of ridiculous i've already used that word once he was kind of he was kind of lame in a way he was just he bloviated all the time he that what i started off with you this is your god apophis that's all he had he was almost dr evil in his whole like i am so evil i'm going to do these things right right right but now like dude he got in their heads he.

[43:23]He he was charlie for jack and oh man yeah yeah yeah so often so often tv shows are afraid to go full evil with somebody or if they do go evil they'll they'll make them give speeches or they'll make stupid choices or they'll pause and they you know leave all those openings for stuff not apophis like they they took him all the way to 11 and didn't let up yeah it was great i loved it.

[43:56]There's some pretty interesting stuff around Sam and Jacob, just, you know, the family stuff going on. I think we saw the genesis of their rocky relationship, found out that her mom passed away because Jacob couldn't pick her up. She took a cab, the cab got hit by a car, and when she was younger, blamed Jacob for some of that. She's since forgiven him and moved forward, but it really seemed to me that that was some of the roots of what they had. Reminded us of the harcesis and that that's you know daniel's new new purpose so that was that was pretty cool and then i think for me like my last note was wait did sokar and friends escape the blast or did they get blowed up and the way they ended this episode brent was just i mean i think at one point yeah at one point nameless tokra guy had this bomb and tilk was like yeah we're not gonna let this bomb go off and you're like oh look it's the plot of the movie right here this was a movie yeah like these like so often you have a two-parter that are two episodes standalone or whatever the pace that are connected with a little cliffhanger yeah it's a little thing yeah yeah yeah this this was one full story in fact it's almost shocking they well.

[45:09]Like they showed it over two different weeks, but this is one that like, the cliffhanger isn't, it's not best of both worlds. Oh my God, they're going to kill Picard. This is what? Apophis is back and I got to know what's going to happen. Oh, to wait would have been horrible, even the week. But the pacing on the first episode was really good. My note there is that the episode ended and I really felt like the story was just getting started. I didn't feel like it was slow or dragging. And for a film, like a movie, that's the perfect point. Like, here we go. And that second episode just hit it running. And that final scene of the moon exploding, that probably, that's half of their season budget. Just putting that scene together. Right, right. And then Apophis turning around and just facing the camera. It's just like, oh, that was huge. I loved it. I really, really, I really loved these episodes. That's what I thought about it. brent did you get any sci-fi messages out of these either of these two episodes or even both of them well let's talk about that in a second let's let's go back and update our count list that's right that's right uh i had nothing nope we've already counted martoof as a sam boyfriend have we not we have and even if we hadn't i don't know that they had enough of a connection in this particular episode to qualify that as a love interest between the two um this really was sam And then Joel and our old boyfriend, right?

[46:38]Whatever. Like there, there, there really wasn't the, the sexual tension. I think that you get and maybe some of the other Martoof episodes, this would be the situation of, so I was dating. This isn't a story. I'm just giving, I was dating a girl and she passed away and now I'm talking to her sister. Like there's not literally talking. You're not like talking. Yeah. No romantic, anything. Just I'm interacting and I have feelings around this person who's no longer here. That's it yeah yeah although i really wish we would have had a daniel death like i wish we would have seen a sarcophagus and daniel would have died and gotten thrown in the thing but we didn't i didn't get any adeeds i got no for crying out loud it's been a while since we've we've added to this so uh we definitely need to do that um i gotta tell you i i have this as a note, As I jump into this whole deal, um, I don't, this is certainly not a message. And this is, this is, I fully acknowledge this is me talking about a situation I have never, ever been in and God willing, I never, ever will be in. Right. So I'm going to do that. Here's how I would respond in that situation, knowing I've never really been there. If my wife, whom I love with every fiber and ounce of my soul, were ever in a position where she had to do the unthinkable to survive and escape, I would want her to tell me. me, not keep it from me.

[47:56]Cause one, that's not something she should be in alone. That's not something she should carry alone or by herself. And I'm here for her and I will not judge her, look at her different. And I know that she may be worried that I will, but I won't. I would want to be in that with her, um, because we are partners. And, and, uh, while I understand why Joel and I chose not to tell Martuf, why I understand she didn't want to relive it. She didn't want to go through it again she didn't want to have all that all that baggage it was something she was carrying by herself and i really like she should have leaned on her partner for that you know um in the scene when uh marty was feeling pretty bad about it and sam just looks at him as like look like she loves you like she loves you and you know don't feel bad about it what i was i wanted so badly and i almost brought it up in there for us to talk about but i knew There'd be more of a conversation, but I just wanted Martoof to stop and look and say almost exactly that. He's like, no, I'm not angry. I'm sad. That must have been so hard for her. She must have been so scared. Yeah. And the courage that she had to do that so we could be together again, that I could be a part of her life still. Like, I just want to, I want to love her and hug her. I feel so much compassion toward, that's what I wanted to have happen. Instead, he was just mad. Yeah. Yeah. But I also, I also understand that idea too.

[49:23]Of being mad. Anyway. Of course, of course, that's how you did it. Oh yeah. You could have run away. You had to choose that, didn't you? No, no, no. I wouldn't be mad at her. I would be mad at him for making her go through that. And from like, I, you know, the, the, the anger, like I, I get, I get, I it i just don't think that's how i would respond at all anyway uh my job here is not to talk about my experience watching the episode my job here is to talk about messages that i may have picked up on um you know i believe you probably could pull several like oh there was this one situation made me think of this and this one situation made me think this and here's a great example jack says uh to to martouf um martouf's like yeah listen i'm gonna go down there by myself there's no escape and he's like well we're all gonna go too and he's like yeah but we don't know if she can't remember them we don't know and we're out of luck and jack's like yeah but she did escape before, if it's been done once it could be done again like there's a there's always hope you don't have to poo poo everything like we'll figure it out along the way you don't always have to have it figured out i could pull stuff like that out none of that was what this episode was about this was a two-parter i like how you connected this to halloween we're literally in hell over Halloween like this that's what this episode was about this was we got to go rescue Sam's dad we get caught while we're in there and we've got to figure out a way out and Apophis comes back.

[50:49]And there's Sokar and then you know you got to deal with Tokar I mean there's just just all of that going on Jeff I did not have any messages coming out of this episode if you have one you want to stump for please feel free but I've got to give this one no chevrons because it's just it wasn't that kind of an episode i totally agree like you said a couple things we even talked during the episode about the bomb and how doing the math it's the right call the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few but that literally like that was just me saying the math made sense that wasn't in the episode at all this was i mean not that plot plot plot doesn't mean message but this was just plot plot plot but the plot was great yeah so all good uh do do what it takes for those you love like maybe maybe i mean not really because because i think like you said the point of this episode was you know like, We're going to go get Sam's dad. We're going to do this stuff. No, the point of this episode was to reintroduce Apophis and let us see Sokar. That was it. And then show us the stakes that are there. Like Sokar is no joke. Cool. Hey, by the way, there is Harses' child out there somewhere. We thought Apophis and Amnot were dead. So now Daniel just could kind of take a sweet, bippy time figuring out where he is, figuring out where this keb place is or whatever the heck that is.

[52:11]Oh, wait. Shoot. Apophis is out there again. Now there's a race.

[52:14]Now it's a race i mean that's that's really where we come at this and by the way two-parter maybe it's sweeps week halloween's cool you know we're trying to pump ratings we got 22 episodes we got to fill out not every single one of them is going to be message laden so i go see i go zero chevrons uh that does not indicate quality of episode though all it does is talk about a rating um you my friend however get the chance to rank this episode in our 100 completely accurate and definitive ranking of season three of stargate sg1 jeff let me read our current top five as it sits i don't know if this is going to crack the top five or not however the top five currently sits at forever in a day number one number two is fair game number three is learning curve number four is into the fire number five our last episode with michello is legacy jeff where do you place Joel and I we're going to do these together as one I don't I mean you could separate them I guess if you really wanted to but typically together as one Joel and I was remembering devil you know where do you got it we separated at the beginning of the season for purposes like those were two the two episodes were very different in quality so we separated them put them in a different list this was one episode all together and if you couldn't guess as I was talking about it I loved this episode uh forever in a day is our current number one which was fantastic but so much of what I loved about that episode was the message of.

[53:42]Of it and how it carried it through and it's still that's amazing made you feel big time made me feel made you feel made everyone who's seen that feel it's powerful episode it's great unfortunately it's not going to be our number one anymore because these two are because i mean this was beautiful it was fun the pacing was amazing and sg1 it's got great messaging we've learned that but that's not what sg1's about sg1 is just fun sci-fi with good stories and that's exactly what this is jolanar and the devil you know at number one jolanar's memories and the devil you know are at number one i'm not surprised not surprised good you'd be weird if you were.

[54:24]Well jeff that is gonna do it for us here for these two episodes jolanar's memories and the devil you know next time jeff we got a brand new episode on deck for you it is an episode called foothold that is one word not two it's a compound word as my children say foothold would you care to take a guess as to what foothold might be about foothold foothold okay um okay the sg1 team is going to be out on assignment they're going to get the iris code like they're coming back from the mission it's going to open up but it's going to be some aliens that come through i don't think it's going to be gould because we just did a gould story it's going to be somebody else they're going to come in and they're going to um they're going to attack they're going to attack the sgc and basically get a foothold in there as sg1 comes back and we're going to get another kind of pew pew pew fighting thing but it's going to be in the sgc we're going to save some money.

[55:22]After after this last one we're going to do it within the sgc and do a couple like bang bangs and pew pews to make the whole thing happen you're a good guesser jeff yeah yeah you're a good guesser, well uh we'll find out we'll find out just how close to jeff is wait let me try to, i'm gonna try to wink with both eyes uh it's like my kid a couple years ago i'm winking.

[55:49]All right we're gonna find out next time right here on stargate sg1 for the first time we'll see just how close my buddy jeff over there is thank you guys so much for joining us don't forget to subscribe wherever you're catching this show whether you're on an audio podcast somewhere your favorite pod catcher maybe you're on youtube uh you could be i don't know where else this show is playing jeff who knows who knows i don't know you could be watching this on the billboard of uh times square in new york probably be that famous that'd be awesome anyway leave us a rating and review wherever you find us please be sure to share the show with somebody out there that you know who loves stargate or someone who needs to get into the gate for the very first time just like my buddy jeff over there so with that guys we're gonna get out of here thank you so much we'll see you back, Hey, old. What's up, bud? I was thinking just a little bit. We, uh, during the episode, we're joking a little bit and it made me wonder, like we saw Neonet come in and just blast Binar in this one, but we never got a chance to say goodbye to him. How, how would you say bye to Binar? Uh, I don't know, Jeff, how would you say bye to Binar? 0 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 1 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 101-100-101. One.

[57:09]Music. I knew that was coming we talked about it we telegraphed it we did the whole thing it still makes me laugh i like it so good.

[57:41]We'll be right back.
