[0:12] Welcome to Stargate SG-1 for the first time, still not a Star Trek podcast. My name is Jeff Akin and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the first time. And I'm Brent Allen and I'm watching Stargate SG-1 for the 47th time, but for the first time I am watching this show with an intention, with the intention of looking at the messages, applying that, you know, those old Star Trek podcaster skills and seeking out the messages that are hidden within Stargate. I've never done that before, so I'm looking forward to doing that. You know, looking for the mirrors to society, the hopes for the better future. How do we be better human beings to one another? We're going to find out if we get any of those opportunities in this two-part episode that we're about to launch into. We're watching the 22nd episode of Season 3, the season finale, and Season 4's opener, Nemesis and Small Victories.

[1:07] Jeff, you're going to have to forgive me if I don't get many messages out of this one. I'm not saying that they don't exist i'm just saying that this set of episodes i mean it's a season finale season premiere shock full of action probably shock full of stuff like oh and coming off an incredible season season three was has been so good yeah really enjoyed it we're gonna find out if my prediction holds any water which is apophis right so we've kind of gotten uh an arc of understanding the system lords through season three and apophis really trying to like carve out his place and all of All of that, the fact he just won't stay dead and keeps coming back. How many times do I have to kill you, boy? Come on. Come on, old man, just stay down. So we're going to see some Apophis stuff go on. They're going to lose something big. Probably not a person, but something's going to happen, and then in the small victories piece, we'll close with them. I believe you said the thing they're going to lose is the SGC. I think it's going to be something with the SGC that happens, some sort of damage or something. And maybe this is where Buck Rogers moves from the earth base to the starship that's going across the way. Gets that upgrade to everything. Speaking of upgrades, do we get any, is there any cool stuff in these episodes that I should know about? Well, there's, there are a few things. There are a few things. A lot of times I can't give you too much because of, you know, spoilers, but here's a few things.

[2:28] Episode 22, season three nemesis air date, March 10th, 2000. Jeff, that should stand out to you. Yeah. It's my mom's birthday. Not for that reason, but happy birthday to Jeff's mom, this episode aired in America, unless the notes are wrong and they could be just two days after crystal skull. Very weird. Yeah. Yeah. Very weird. You don't, you don't often see that now small victories wouldn't come on until June 30th. So they definitely take a bit of a break here, uh, between the two, although it's not that long of a break, but still, you know, they take a couple months off. Um, now one of the things really, since the beginning of the calendar year of 2000, um, over in the UK, Stargate SU one was playing on sky one, their, their big sci-fi network over there that they do. They would actually get it like two days before us here in America, which, you know, being Americans and this is an American TV show. We can't be having that happen. Heck no. Oh no. America. So, um, actually while we got to watch small victories on June 30th, our friends over watching on sky one had to wait all the way to september so that's right putting them in their place once again right where they should be that the boston tea party hasn't ended yet at this point like we're still finding those opportunities absolutely yeah absolutely just to stick it to them one more time you know take that king george uh no taxation or sci-fi without representation.

[3:51] And you don't get it before we do anyway um now both episodes here are written and directed by the same duo it's robert c cooper well-known name at this point and martin wood now jeff i have been telling you about martin wood uh he i've i've promised there's this coming gag running gag that he starts i'm 90 sure it starts in this set of episodes okay where they're so just be on the lookout for it it's him with this big a wrench and uh you know tongue in cheek his character's name is major wood so great you know and it's typically him and siler um sergeant siler together so like i said keep an eye out we'll take a look for it um you know the sg1 directors like to kind of put their own little signature uh to to their episodes and this is now there is another change that starts with this set of episodes here, Um, keep in mind, this is the year 2000. Now, Jeff, what's happening? Reach back in the recesses of your mind. What's happening in the world of television, particularly with how they're shooting and filming episodes of TV at this time. Do you know? Do you remember? Is this when HD was starting to be a thing? It's starting to. People are starting to go from film to actually digital recordings. Okay. Um, again, it's starting to. Now, SG one is not making the digital jump yet. They will eventually where everything is just super high def, right?

[5:17] However, they are moving from shooting on 16 millimeter film to 35 millimeter film. And for whatever reason, if I understand the way it works, 35 millimeter film does allow for better HD.

[5:32] Like if you go back and scan it and digitize it, 35 millimeter gives you like such better clarity and quality. So, you know, I'm kind of expecting, I didn't know that that happened in this episode. but I'm kind of expecting to notice a jump.

[5:46] In in viewing pleasure as we go into these two episodes coming off that green screen work from last week's episode though it can't be awful no it's not gonna be it it's not gonna be hard to make a make an improvement on that so um that's all i got on the front end of this uh jeff i will we'll talk more about on the back side of a few other things but with that it is time to go watch this set of episodes hey listen if you're joining us for the very first time first of all welcome you're amazing you're awesome we're so glad you found us here the way this works is and we have to go through this because every time it's somebody's first time the way this works is jeff and i have not watched this set of episodes yet we're going to do it like right now if you're hanging out with us on youtube stick around because you're going to get the reaction video to, both episodes back to back it's all going to be contained and uh if you want the full unedited version of that reaction video head over to our patreon page at patreon.com slash bye nerds and you can catch a whole lot more over. Oh, I messed up. Uh, and you can catch some really cool other stuff out there on Patreon as well. If you're listening on a podcasting app, we're going to meet you on the other side as you gate into the future, where I'm going to share my first time reactions. Brent's going to share those sci-fi messages that he finds. So Brent, let's do it. Let's go into nemesis and then a small victories.

[7:12] We'll be right back.

[7:20] How you doing? Good. Did you get your hair cut? Yeah. All of them. I expected that from Jack, one of those. Can I see your scar? I do that all the time. No. Fraser says it'll be about a week before you get out of here. It was funny. I mean, after everything we've been through these past few years, and of all things, it's my appendix that lays me out. But it's not going to be a week. I mean, practically, I feel fine now. Want to go fishing? Actually. Fun fact. Yeah? Michael Shanks actually had appendicitis, and they wrote it into the script. And he's gone for like a week to go through the whole process so he can start filming again. That's perfect. So this is why he's out of so much of the episode. Love it. That's so great. Listen, why make up something? Yeah. You know what I mean? Just put it in. It's fine. Here's the thing. Yeah. No, you know, I think maybe I will stay here for two or three days. That's a good idea. Bye. I had my appendix out when I was 10. I still have mine. Really? When I had the old days, I'd basically cut you in half to take them out. I have a pretty gnarly scar. Ryder! Sir, hi.

[8:32] She's a welder. How's Daniel? He's going to be fine. What do you do? It's very science-y. I'm getting ready to do a detailed analysis of the decay rate of Naquita within the reactor. Ha! He gave her a second. That was good. Yes, sir. So are you. I know. Daniel's recouping. Teal'c's off visiting his kids somewhere. Personally, I have a date with Little Lake in Minnesota where the bass grow. Why isn't he visiting Lady? Why isn't he going to see her? Yes, because we forgot about her. What I'm describing here involves a very special element. This is fun to me, sir. Well, if playing with your little reactor sounds better than exploring the lakes and natural beauty of northern Minnesota, there's not much I can do. Was that an invitation, sir? Nothing wrong with that, is there? A couple of co-workers, friends, if you will, fishing, it'd be fun. Now, if something goes down, this is earned, and this will be okay at this point. Sounds great. Won't be an out-of-nowhere thing, or him taking advantage of somebody.

[9:37] That's so awkward. And by all means, have fun. She's like, that sounds fun. Also, I have this really cool reactor right here. I'm going to do the Star Trek thing of doing my nerd work while I'm on vacation. Oh, look. Oh, are you okay? Have a good time. Oh, come on, Sam. Lufus. Yashuri, Yashuri, Yashuri, Snookums. Mosquito.

[10:05] Asgard? That's how the Asgard brought him up before, right? Is this Asgard? Yeah. You gotta quit doing that. I love that he's comfortable enough to be like, uh, okay. Hey, God of Thunder. Hello. Beam him up. Nobody's there to greet him. Who is he, Captain Lockley?

[10:29] God freak out Robotic bugs Is what they're called Oh no Dude and they sound horrible Dude the Yeah score is really, We had great sound engineering last week, and same on this one. The layering, the sound, and the music. I appreciate stuff like that. I appreciate that you notice stuff like that. I'm pretty sure it was the Asgard transportation technology. Jack said, let's all get around. AT&T. Depends on what they want this time, sir. Asgard transportation and technology. True. You know, at this point, he's just thinking, well, God, there goes my fishing trip. Oh, no, the store's sick. You all right? I am dying. Oh, crap. What happened? It is, as you humans say, a long story. The information you will need is contained within the stones. It's almost like Klingons and Tribbles, where you're like, really? Those are your mortal enemies? I literally was just writing, these things equal... For what? Tribbles. Thor? Oh, shoot. Wow.

[11:43] So um so thor is voiced hold on so thor is voiced by michael shanks does that count as a daniel death michael shanks died on screen i'm just saying yeah it counts i'm counting it that's our litmus test absolutely counting it it's michael shanks with the death scene it was we counted michello didn't we yeah yeah so we count because it was because that was our thing was Michael Shanks dying on screen yeah yeah, or at least seemingly dying on screen.

[12:18] The ballistener was called into battle against an enemy we have named Replicators. Replicators. During the battle, this ship became infested by the technology. The Replicators accessed the computer, which contained information about your planet, and plotted a course here. The crew was transported off the ship. I destroyed the outbound transporter technology to prevent the Replicators from escaping. Just means Jack can't get off. And all the Asgard are on Earth. From this ship. Sorry about that. Oh, look at this. Fancy holographic communication. sir what's going on well i need a spaz 12 a bf-8 10 pounds pbx and a usas at the base of the stargate in oh five minutes that's a lot of explosives sir I have no idea what all that stuff was.

[13:34] What are you going to do? Destroy the ship. Okay. So can you transport us up? I could, but I'm... For reasons. Anybody who comes up is not getting down. I came to get down. I came to get down. You can't get off the ship. Yeah. Jump up your feet. Yep.

[13:53] Look. What happens when your series lead wants a break? Stop ready in 10 minutes. Wish me luck. Colonel. Major. It's an order and it's fine. This is brilliant though. Season finale. Make it like, you know, there's no way he's getting out of this. Thank you, sir. They just killed Thor. So why wouldn't they kill Jack? But there's also the, I mean, so you don't know if he's coming. Back for the next season but there's also the how does our guy get out of it like yeah like you know if you're on the dvd cover you almost never die right unless you're daniel jackson then you do many many times right then how do you come back like that's the that's the question i think for so many of these uh i think a lot of the time but i think when you do it in a place like this, chronologically in the in the series because normally it happens what was the one uh solitudes back in season one where it was like hey this is interesting and stuff also they're 100 percent gonna get out of this like he's not really in danger because this is a season finale.

[14:49] Yeah tell that to uh terry farrell yeah denise crosby now she asked to be let out of her contract yeah which is fine i'm so glad that she's not worked out well for everyone major to your knowledge if colonel neal is unsuccessful can the asgard ship be destroyed by a surface So the Asgard ships have sophisticated cloaking devices. We've been looking for it in orbit since Colonel O'Neill disappeared. Still nothing. So if we can't see it, we can't target it. That's right, sir. And even if you could target it, your weapons are nothing. Get it.

[15:25] Damn it, I gave you people a direct order. General Hammond overruled you, sir. We have a way off the ship. Gonna cut a hole and jump. I like that he gave an order and Hammond overruled it. Yeah, it wasn't just them saying, we had to come here to help you. They're like, still follow the chain of command. Yeah.

[15:50] Oh, that gun didn't do anything. That did something. The thing is, before, it just crawled over Jack. They weren't a threat to him. Oh. Why did you bring them? Anyone? That's a great question. Now you will all die. Actually, we don't think so. There's a shuttle prepping on the launch pad. If we can transmit the coordinates to NASA, they can be here within a matter of hours. And the replicators can get on board. All Asgard ships Are equipped with internal dampening fields That activate in the event of an explosion Your PBX ain't gonna do nothing Well, how exactly did you expect us to Destroy the ship? Self-destruct A fast, simple method I would have destroyed the ship myself Before endangering your lives In other words Uh-oh Technical specifications of the Beliskner Were contained within the recordings I made for you oh I haven't had time to watch all the stones stick those on there it's like a laser disc right powered by four neutrino ion generators in your earth you.

[17:15] A maximum of 1 billion. Yeah, my eyes glossed over right about there. That's a serious engine. I was just going to say, do you hear that? That's the sound of hundreds of thousands of nerds screaming in joy and ecstasy. Give us more of these stats. Give us more of these stats. This is great. I guess I better go through all these recordings. And Sam going. We are thrusters. She's like, forget the knack one. I want to know how to make a cool shit. ship. Neutrino ion generator. Welcome back. I like Major Davis. I really do.

[17:54] Thus replicators. Are you saying you're actually eating the ship? Ingesting the alloys. Yes. They're metal-eating triples. They will continue until they risk compromising the integrity of the hull. Can this ship withstand an uncontrolled re-entry into the atmosphere? No. The heat from the friction would cause the ship to burn up. Self-solving problem. Are you trying to tell me that with all this advanced intergalactic technology, this ship can't withstand a little heat? In order to reflect the subspace field of the phase generators. So... No. Yes. Then all we have to do is crash the ship into the atmosphere. You will have to regain control of the navigational computer. Do they, though? don't the replicators want to go onto the planet like just let them do their thing it'll burn right up well there was a map.

[18:51] Well, but it's got to be an uncontrolled entry. The Fagorafi is controlling the entry. Heat shields and all that. They've got to go uncontrolled. Kind of tumble into the... We brought medical supplies. And I have medical field training. You cannot help me. Seems pretty arrogant there, Thor. Right. You are talking to Sam Carter. Are you there yet? The door up ahead on your left leads to the bridge. I almost wish Jack was wearing cargo shorts. Sounds like there are replicators inside. Yeah, they kind of ate most everything. That's definitely a pleasant sound. Forget that. It's very soothing. You get the replicators and the Daleks in one room, and it's going to sound awesome. Well, throw the Borg in. Even better. That's great. New plan. All three different shapes. He's in a pod. Thor's not doing well. He says that pod could put him into a deep stasis that would preserve his life.

[20:00] So do it. He won't let me. What's he going to do? Cry on you? He's not going to stop you. Hey, I understand you're not being a particularly cooperative patient. As long as I am conscious, I still may be of some assistance. Yeah. However, if you're dead, as I have said, if you do succeed in destroying the ship, we will all die. There's the shuttle door. Thor, remember we had the shuttle thing? To blow up the thing. themselves eventually. The BF-8 might just be enough firepower to blow the deceleration drive. Might. If we blow it at the right time, we can alter the entry path. The ship would then accelerate out of control and burn up in Earth's atmosphere. Problem solved. How long can you hold your breath, Tilk? Jeff, we're getting a spacewalk. I'm saying. Here we go. As a sci-fi nerd, I love this episode, man. I love everything about this episode. I got robot bugs. I got transporter technology. I got aliens talking to me. You got quadrants being misused. The Russians have gone on alert as a response. The moment the Asgard ship attempts to land, the president... DEFCON 3, Russians. The rest of the world know what we know. And then? We hit it with everything we've got.

[21:24] SG1 is on that ship. Yeah, they're dead. I have as much confidence in SG-1 as you, Dr. Jackson, but they left over an hour ago. Had no communication since. And we have no idea what kind of a time frame we're dealing with here. Let's give them a reasonable chance, Major. So this is a new thing that I think I heard. The Russians know what's going on and are preparing a response. Didn't we talk about before how international communication about this kind of stuff and how America was kind of keeping mum the word? Did he say that the Russians know? He said the Russians are preparing a response. Because they detected something in space just something is that what hold on hold on let's run us back because i really i want to know what they said yeah the russians have gone on alert as a response the moment the asgard ship attempts to land the president has decided to let the rest of the world know that's all it is we've got we've gone to defcon 3 and russia has responded to us going to defcon 3 oh okay that makes sense that makes sense that's that's the limited and then the president has decided as soon as the asgard hits the atmosphere then we're gonna have to tell everybody because sorry guys yeah we've known about this for a while sorry we didn't tell you my symbol protects me from exposure to radiation for a prolonged period of time, we learned that last okay you go.

[22:35] That's good don't argue it it's that's that's factually true that's what it is i mean you can be the good leader and want to be the guy to go but there's a really good reason that tilk should be the guy or be a good leader and play the strengths it looks like the top button not be the cowboy hero. Although I ain't gonna lie, I would kind of want to do a spacewalk. I hope he has magnetic boots. I always love. They always put lights inside the helmet. Indeed. Like, ah, got an Indeed. Nice. Good catch. Hangin' on tight down there. It's been a while since we've had an Indeed. It's been too long. Let's do it. Something. One small step for Javar. Very nice. Tulk's got jokes. Tulk has jokes.

[23:24] Oh, do the replicators eat the connectors? Yes, sir, I'm working on it. That's some strategy right there. That six-hour air supply is going to become a thing all of a sudden. Well, Daniel's skill at being able to read that console and decipher languages really fast would come in handy right now. Yeah, he'd think. He just puts stuff around. Uh-oh. Oh, God. Are they going out with the attic? This tank just blew! O'Neil! Carter! Sir, I'm trying to use the transporter to beam him inside, but it's not working. The transporter array on that side of the ship must have been knocked out by the bugs. I think we still call it beaming. We can still do this, but Teal'c's gonna have to push off. What? The other transporter arrays could pick him up, but only if he's far enough away from the ship. True leap of faith. Teal'c, we're gonna try to beam him aboard, but you have to push off from the ship first. You're in, you have to push off! You push off, O'Neil! Push off! It's a beauty way to go. Push off!

[24:36] Yeah, Thor, you're going under. Sorry, dude. Come on, come on! Breathe! Oh yeah, that's following orders. Heh heh heh. Come on, Teoke, lighten up. I've been in these situations before. No, sir, we haven't. We haven't? We're on a super powerful spaceship that we're completely out of control of and have no idea what we're doing, and there's no power. I've never done this before. Have you noted the name of the ship, Jeff? I... Blasquish or something. The Ballisknark. Ballisknark. That's a cool name, man. That's a great band name. That's a great gamer tag ID. It's like a Swedish metal band. Blizzkner.

[25:30] Mr. Armand nukes. Russia's not going to respond well. We have no choice but to assume SG-1 failed. We must destroy it by whatever means necessary.

[25:44] Oh! Oh, just take the whole Stargate!

[25:50] Why not? Get out of there, right? There's your ticket away. They got the DHD. They're going to use it to escape. like you did from the Apophis mothership. It could work. It will work. They'll gate to another planet and then home. You had a DHD. They don't. Even disconnected, there should be enough power to dial out once. That's new information, Jeff. Yep. It has a charge of its own. This is Hammer. I want the beta gate unpacked from storage immediately. Good thing we had that thing laying around. We're probably losing this gate. This is the big important thing they're going to lose. I was wrong about Apophis, but I'll be right about that. out of here. It's like a rotary phone way of dialing this target. It doesn't seem like the ring is really that hard to move. Like, it must be on ball bearings or something. We got bugs. I'm just saying one shot per bug, like, that's gonna go quick, man. Uh-huh. There's a lot of bugs. Right? You better hope those replicators don't go with you. You ever shot a shotgun before? I have. You're like, that's no joke what he's pulling right there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jeez, Jack! Holy crap, dude! Took a little heads down would have helped. This is where you need those rifles to actually have like full on buckshot, just so it spreads.

[27:16] Yeah, they're holding their own, but that is never-ending. They've been breeding this whole time. Replicating, Jack. Oh, replicating. Do it, Jack. Come on. Go through the gate. Fireball headed for the Pacific Ocean 400 miles off the coast of California. Eh, that's probably fine. Aim it at the garbage island. Maybe solve a couple problems at once. Nobody else will see it. Don't worry. Yeah. Nobody pays any attention to the coast of California. moving in to deal with any wreckage. You know what I think of when I see that blasting into the water? I'm sure you were right, Dr. Jack. I hope that's not hitting any coral reef. Had to be this kind of thing. Or any habitat, underwater habitats that are, you know. Like complex ecosystem down there. Oh no mission accomplished for the replicators.

[28:14] What a great ending all right jeff pause in the action quick thoughts on episode one this episode ended perfectly yeah we don't know what it is well all we like they could be dead all blowed up the stargate's gone and we know the replicators are on earth now they're in the middle of the ocean but they're on earth i don't think that matters i don't think they care where they were at so i mean they went out into space i don't think the ocean is going to stop them from getting to where they need to go i don't know man poseidon's pretty pretty raucous when it comes to stuff is he maybe but is poseidon a ghoul and maybe he's fine with replicators because we learned last week the enemy of my enemy is my friend and they're both enemies of the asgard, could be maybe maybe no this is a lot of fun i think like my my one thought i'll hit here in the halfway point is just my note here raw materials and metal equal breeding they hit replicating there's replicating i don't i make it so dirty they don't breed just replicate they just replicate that's all we do but so raw materials metal equal replicating hitting earth equals tons of materials so basically they're metal eating tribbles yeah so pretty much and And much more nefarious than the triples as well. Yeah. Heavy stuff. Yeah.

[29:30] Mike, my quick update on messages and stuff. I got no chevrons. It's just a kick ass episode. Yeah. Yeah. That's it. This is good stuff. By the way, just a reminder, folks, chevrons is solely having to do with messages, has nothing to do with bearing on the quality of the episode. So do not equate those two at all. Jeff, let's jump into the next episode. Season four. You're in season four. Jeff, let's go. I made it.

[29:56] They're going to eat the sub. Oh, through the torpedo tube. Do not open that thing, dude. Yeah, it means it's open on the other side, or was opened on the other side. Not good. You shut that now. We have a flashlight just laying up here. They do. that's it's not nuts that's not not that is normal.

[30:37] That was well done like his reaction to it and everything that's good that's so what we didn't see in the first episode was a replicator attacking a person, It just climbed over Jack that one time. Yeah, like this guy into his face, sprayed whatever sort of acid or whatever into his face. But as you know, they need metal for replicating, not bio whatever. So this really is just kill a dude, get out of my way so I can go do what I got to do. It's an attack. Yeah. Well, I still want you to take it easy for at least... Off-world activation. Repeat. We have an off-world... Oh, they must have got the other Stargate set up. Another week. Well, the beta gate is now there. I was just thinking how having the Stargate on the ship when it blew up from the other thing like just exponentially increased the explosive power.

[31:31] And they're okay. Yeah, there you go. Well, it's about time. We did kind of save the planet, sir. Again. It should not get old. They all look very different. Job, Wilder. Do they? He doesn't have as much color in his hair. What happened to Thor? Sam's hair is totally different. Yeah. Yeah, so they're under the assumption that all the replicators is dead. Mm-hmm. Yes, sir. You know what you get when you assume, Jeff? Yeah. It's not good. It's a little smelly.

[32:03] It's your view. General Hammond just called. Major Davis is on his way in from the Pentagon. Not going fishing? No, sir. I think that's him. That's him right there. That's Martin Wood. Oh, was it? Yeah, like right over his shoulder. Yeah. He didn't have the wrench yet. They intercepted a maiden from the commander of the Foxtrot class attack submarine. That's Russian. Sir, if this started with only one bug, it's already replicating. The man that took the pictures fortunately made it out. and Nimitz reported to the Pentagon to advise the Navy to tow the sub in. Do the Russians know we have it? No, we're denying any knowledge. Yeah, they made a whole movie about that. We have to make sure that none of the replicators get out of this. Sean Connery action. It's under tight supervision. Is there any other way we can neutralize these things? Maybe some alien technologies you've come across. The replicators are impervious to go old technology. They are, however, susceptible to human projectile weaponry. Guns. If there are still a small enough number of the replicators on board, a properly equipped team could possibly... Save the world.

[33:01] Once again. Unauthorized gate activation. We have no teams currently off world. If it's unauthorized and there's nothing off world, just leave the iris closed. Isn't that the point? I was going to say, iris should automatically be closed. Just... Thank you! I'm trying, sir. It's not responding. That's Thor. His little pod survived. Good for him for recognizing him.

[33:37] It's a full-on attack. Yeah.

[33:56] Thus you. You're actually saying that you need someone. You may have come to the right place. Of course, Jack's going to embrace the dumbness. With all due respect to your situation, we need SG-1 here. I could go, sir. I don't know, Carter. You may not be dumb. Permission granted. We must leave a meeting. Really? Would you grant that permission? I don't know that I would. To send Sam Carter of all people? This is kind of a throwback to, was it Therefore But the Grace of God? Where Daniel went into the alternate universe. It's almost a throwback to that where he's like, hey, so my earth is in a lot of trouble and you're about to die, but you should divert all of your efforts from saving your people to saving my people. Yeah. This is kind of similar where Thor's like, hey, yeah, so you got a replicator here. That sucks. That's awful. Also, I need your help to hear. Yeah. And they're giving it. So, I mean, on one hand, yeah, it's stupid to let Sam go. On the other hand, well, in a cosmic way, it balances. mm-hmm where are we going exactly five asgard ships are currently engaging three ships controlled by the replicators which are on their way here we are going to join the battle and with your help set to fight their own ships essentially.

[35:20] Having guns like that on a boat like that is horrifying. Like those corridors anywhere you move are just so tiny. You're off by anything, and those bullets are going to ricochet so much. Music, sound effects, really building up the tension. This is great. Turns out they know how to make an episode of TV. Right. Really, really well. They're a different color. Some sort of camouflage. Different quality of material or something like that. Something in it. We're moving on. It's going to create like an offshoot breed of replicator.

[36:01] There, there. Ah! Using the lower-res cameras to show that too just gives it like a gross feeling. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What is that? A lot more visceral than it was up on the Blisknut. That's a big one. It's the replicator. If that's some sort of queen, the other bugs may try to... I was going to say, now they've got a queen. It's just shooting out pieces. Yeah. And they all come together. Oh, God, no. Man, can you imagine, what if they made a whole episode with it being like a found footage type episode? Oh yeah like this oh my gosh if this episode was created now that'd be the web like the youtube spin-off one just one of the sailors you know or something like oh they had this thing i guess you.

[37:05] It is too dangerous. Of course, that would be stupid. Just out of curiosity. Could say, oh, I don't know, two individual blocks replicate? It requires several blocks working together to make new blocks. It's good to know. With me right now, actually. In my pocket.

[37:24] Hologram technology, man. Wow. It will simulate any behavior we have observed. That's a pretty neat, like, Lego way of putting stuff together, man. Yeah. It's out of control. Nobody's going back down in there. We have to blow up this up and hope that we can contain any of the bugs that survive. It's kind of what Neil told you a while ago. Mm-hmm. Dude, Tilk's hardcore. He's like, I just digged it out of my spine. It's okay. That's only like half a piece, man. Where's the rest of it? Stuck in Tilk. He's gonna become the proto-Goa-uld replicator. We have lost contact with the rest of the Asgard ships engaging the replicators. Could it be a communication process? The problem is they're replicators now. The Asgard ships are not being detected. So what are those? The replicators. We're too late. The bugs use whatever raw materials are around them to replicate, right? And these ones are eating the Russian submarine, which means they're basically made of steel or whatever the sub is made of. That is why they are a different color. And it may also explain why they haven't tried to get off the sub yet. Yeah, no food. They can't. You see, they're only as resilient as the raw materials they're made of. These ones aren't like the ones on Thor's ship. they'll rust or short circuit in the water. They're less sophisticated and they're vulnerable. I'm sorry, it sounds like you're now saying that blowing up the sub would easily destroy them. If that's the case, why don't we do it right now? Because there's still one bug that could survive. The one that survived Thor's ship. It's the one that started all this by killing the entire crew of that sub. We have to be sure this won't happen again.

[38:51] Small charge on the upper level, draw him away from... It is confirmed that Dallas was the same boat from Hunt for Red October. It was.

[39:02] That's on purpose, and I almost think if they're going after tech they would have taken any diesel out first it's probably easier to consume than the nuclear reactor but way less tasty, but even the nuclear stuff has to be a disappointment compared to the stuff the neutrino stuff they have on as red ship across the galaxy in no time. What's the strongest material you know of? We have just developed a new alloy of Naquita, Trinium, It was used to create the hull of the O'Neil. Can that ship reach hyperspeed yet? Yes. Can it be flown using autopilot or some sort of remote control? Why? So we can get the replicators to chase after it. It is possible, however. That ship is everything they're looking for. It'll look like an all-you-can-eat buffet. But it is not... They don't care. They will capture it and consume its technology. Not if you rig it to self-destruct. I do not understand. You said that the bugs can't use shields or weapons in hyperspeed. If the O'Neill enters.

[40:12] When they do, you blow the O'Neill and take the bugs with it. Major Carter, you are suggesting that we destroy the most advanced Asgard attack vessel ever created before it is even finished. Yes. I know. That's exactly what she said. Yeah, because if we don't do that, you're going to die. We're going to replicate our infested ships. It won't attack anything if the bugs get to your planet before it's finished. I know. It's a risk. A risk you cannot take. But I can. I'm a barbaric Tauri. That's why I'm like, look, you brought me here for a reason. Here you go. This is what I get in there. You wanted help. Don't overthink it. You know, what if you're way into oblivion? They're playing really loose with projectiles and explosions in a submerged boat. Hey, Jeff. Don't overthink it and ruin this room for me. I like this one. Not even overthinking it. This is just like, this is basic underwater physics. I know, I know. Listen, sometimes with things like Fast and Furious, you just gotta forget physics. Right. And you keep trying to defeat them by building better technology, and they keep absorbing it and becoming more advanced. You have to use that against them. Then we should try it. Yes! I, Thor, just dipped. We should try it. I'm out.

[41:34] Jack's like i have had it with these mother bugs on this mother sub, Oh, there's no way that's getting edited out. We are not getting out of here. Mission accomplished. Blow it. Jack Daniel, please answer before I get eaten alive by these Dave's box. These motherfucking box. Davis, give the order. Quick correction. Looked it up. Foxtrot class submarine was diesel. electric. It's not a nuclear boat. And shockingly, they had them in service until 2014. It's nuts to have a diesel boat out there that long, especially for Russians. Look at this, Thor. It's all going to go down the way Sam said. Maybe O'Neill's not the only awesome human you've got working for you. It worked.

[42:44] Good shield. Yes! Awww. Also, I'd be okay if you kept doing that. It was your stupid idea.

[43:07] Oh, perfect timing. They're okay. As well. They're okay. Now that's timing Came as soon as we could, sir So the bugs are all taken care of down there Pretty much, you? Yeah, I mean The Asgard had this big new ship The O'Neil Oh, yeah But, The Asgard are most grateful One day we shall repay you By helping to fight the Goa'uld One day, Saving one Asgard planet is a small victory Well if I ever need any more dumb ideas You know where to find me Best way to combat intelligence is stupid Hey listen, Stop by anytime In fact.

[44:09] I'll take you fishing I'd love to do that I just want to take somebody fishing So do we.

[44:13] Grow that big well the listeners like deuces i'm out right all right jeff well there it is uh first of all welcome back to all of our listeners uh particularly those of you out there in the audio world uh who have gated into the future we have rejoined you jeff you and i have just watched together both episodes nemesis and small victories we got a little bit of your your immediate impression of nemesis back during the little break but uh back it up you talk about the whole thing one episode over another however you want to do it take us through your first watch of the season three finale and the season four premiere nemesis and small victories what an awesome set of episodes like this was exciting it was fun it was cool i just i'll hit my one negative on the whole piece and that was that they for this episode small victories a lot of the battle stuff happened on a submarine uh foxtrot class russian submarine i if you people out there don't know i served on a u.s submarine a nuclear fast attack uh los angeles class back a little bit a little bit before the time this episode aired and uh they they had there's a couple things they did that weren't you know so accurate also it like freaked me out like they're blowing stuff up and shooting guns in a boat that's submerged like not smart at all but when it broke super quick story on that.

[45:41] When i was on my boat we had a group of seals navy seals that were on the boat.

[45:45] Because our boat had a thing on it that did a thing that the seals could use super top secret and so that's all i can say about it but they could do the.

[45:54] Coolest stuff and they were actually running in these drills where they had, uh, 45s M M M 1911 a ones. I think they were, wow, it's good, but they could literally shoot around a corner. They could ricochet the bullet like they would go and they would set like targets up.

[46:12] And they could ricochet intentionally do that. And so watching them blast all those replicators in there, I'm just like, those bullets have got to be going all over the place. But I mean, I don't have a ton to say. This was exciting. It was cool. I love that the new, this big galactic threat the Asgard have that are more of a threat than the Gould were bugs. Yeah. Right. Like you imagine like the Borg or just as big, the Krill, you know, which is this huge, scary sort of a thing. And it's like, they're scary, but like they're, they're bugs.

[46:47] And like I'd said in the, in the in-between piece, they're basically tribbles with, uh, with intelligence and nefarious means. I did find it interesting that these episodes were kind of the anti-Star Trek near the end when Sam and Thor are working on a strategy to take them out. Thor keeps talking about how they're so intelligent they adapt they learn they you know are always trying to better themselves and stuff like that and i thought to myself this was star trek especially the next generation picard would be like hey they're a threat but they could be sentient and we have to learn to understand them right right whereas here they're just like yeah kill them blow them up like who cares let's just do it this these two episodes to me were proto material for the mass effect series now again again now for you now in this moment as we're recording this this is all spoiler material that will mean nothing to you but by the time this airs you're going to totally know what uh what i'm talking about but the relationship between the asgard and the replicators is the same as the quarians and the geth and in mass effect one that relationship is pivotal to the entire plot that then shows up again in Mass Effect 3. But just that idea of an artificial life becoming its own force, as it were, and then coming back.

[48:09] On the creators in there it was really well a really well done um story that that translated really well into mass effect and then the other piece was i was so blown away at like the psychological impact of the way the replicators work as they go onto the ship they kill all the people on the ship they consume the power and they basically take over the ship so you're not fighting these replicator vessels you're fighting your vessels with your people yeah on them and there's got to be that psychological aspect you know hey i served on that ship before and now i'm firing on it or whatever we experienced that in babylon 5 in the earth civil war you know where they that actually came up people who served under other captains and stuff now having to fight each other and the impact that had but in mass effect 3 that's a real theme on how the reapers work they I don't think they have themselves, but their ground troops are like they went and captured your buddies.

[49:07] And now you have to go fight the Reaper versions of your buddies. So super cool to see all that play out here before it was ever a video game. I love that you see Mass Effect and like everything. Well, the thing is, and they haven't hidden this at all, but Mass Effect is a direct ripoff of tons of sci-fi. Yeah. It's how they wanted to make it. They make no bones about it. Yeah, actually, I like that idea. I really do. Just take all the cool stuff. Pull as much homage as you can into it, you know?

[49:39] Get the best of it all and stick it together and make something good out of it yeah so this was this was a lot of fun really dug these a great cap to a great season and really opening stuff up well for season four we get to update our tracking board we do indeed we do we got an indeed got an indeed and indeed indeed indeed we thought we had a daniel death but turns out thor is okay so yeah so all right jeff this cannot be right i've only got us up to four indeeds there's no way that's right did we did we lose some somewhere the way there's there's no way that's right but it also could be right like i'm thinking about it and i think i've had more missed opportunities for indeeds yeah than actual indeeds at this point that might be true i do i do know they start picking up like it it kind of people start keying in and the writers start going with it for for quite a bit yeah i think like and i don't know i mean i am where i am but i think that if i did not know it was going to become a thing i wouldn't think it was a thing yet okay fair enough fair enough um i do have a question.

[50:45] Um so jack and sam got a little flirty in this episode one of the things we're counting are sam's boyfriends i don't know that we're ready to count this one yet or ever but she know she shut him down and then she ran after him stopped in the hall and was like oh but have fun yeah she backed it off i i love i even made the comment while this was happening that i i'm not opposed to jack and sam yeah i'm opposed to jack and sam the way we've gotten it so far sure right with alt sam and and stuff like that but this is perfect that's that professional tension that's kind of ranching it up into some romantic stuff he's trying a little bit she's thinking then backing off like this is how you develop a relationship and if like at this pace if like the end of season four or later something actually happens with them i'll be like okay that makes sense i i get it it's not going to be a forced forced thing or an inappropriate thing that comes up well i mean it'll be inappropriate as long as she is under his command right there is that the whole fraternization yeah thing is kind of an issue yeah yeah well you gave a well just to go through i've got 20 for crying out louds i've got seven daniel deaths i've got four indeeds and i've got three boyfriends.

[52:06] Wow it's gonna be fun to see kind of how that plays out over the over the rest of the series now you gave us a little spoiler early on in this that you didn't anticipate a lot when it came to the chevron sci-fi message conversation do you have anything i really don't i really don't this is just premiere finales go shoot them up go have a lot of stuff might be able to dig something if i'm really looking really thinking which i am looking and thinking but nothing that's just super clear that just jumps smack dab off the page listen folks if you get one out there you want to email it in you can do that at um our email address uh over on our website at uh buy nerds.com or check out any future updated and check the link down below it could be all kinds of things at this point we keep changing stuff man we keep changing stuff it's okay so yeah i i got no chevrons man no chevrons.

[52:59] Again, I say chevrons have zero bearing on quality of episode or how much fun we've had in the episode and how much we like the episode. It's solely restricted to messages. And I just, these weren't message heavy episodes. This was, let's introduce a new bad guy and let's bring back Thor and let's go shoot a lot of bullets and make fun of ourselves for being primitive yet again. So I give it zero chevrons, but Jeff, you, my friend get to place it in our 100% completely accurate immutable ranking of season three season four i want to know where you're going to place it within season three but we're gonna i think we tend to push these into the season the next season uh as they do but where would you where would you place at least nemesis or this within our season three ranking so i i do want to split them out because i think i could there's a this was a great single episode between the two of them also two totally self-contained episodes you think so same time i do like season the season the nemesis episode ended on a cliffhanger but in a way that.

[54:10] I could see that being like a series finale of the whole like the whole thing like hey so the heroes are probably are probably gone there's a threat on the planet and we're done until the spinoff comes like right it's it that's a well you you you got rid of everybody and then you give the dun dun dun exactly whatever, And you pick up on the, on small victories and it's like, okay, yeah, I'm picking up. It's going to has a very different feel. You know, it got, it got smaller and a bunch of stuff that was good. So I do want to break them up. And so I'm going to do the easy one first and do small victories, which is going to be the number one episode of season four. Okay. Cheater. So far. Go ahead. And so I'm looking at season three and this hard because this doesn't fit in. Like when I look at season three, we have these big, like Sha Ray, Amonet, Apophis sort of things. We've got the Tolan.

[55:04] Stuff going on and you know stuff with the toke like this big heavy stuff it's the lore we've been following this is brand new stuff and it has a very different feel in fact following the mass effect um allegory or metaphor this is the feeling of mass effect andromeda compared to the original trilogy i'm like what is jardan and why are we dealing with robots all of a sudden like what's that but it's also great so i look at this and i'm like oh my god where would it fit in season three. And as I'm saying this, I'm making a real case to actually just rate them together in season four. So I'm going to keep that asterisk and let you possibly talk me into that based on where I rank this, because where it's sitting here in season three, Brent, I have to make it the number four episode under fair game and forever in a day.

[55:51] Yeah, I could see that. I could see that. I'm not going to make a case for you to push them together. Um, I think you make a really good case for why they can be two separate episodes but i will also this really was more of a ending on a cliffhanger and coming back with a new episode then here is one episode that is two episodes long exactly yeah yeah those were two thoughts that string together yeah yeah um so i i kind of like pushing them apart whereas like you look at joel and our memories in devil you know which is sitting in our number one spot that's one story yeah one that's one episode that was an hour and a half long yeah yeah so uh yeah i kind of like that i i like that uh there's a few others i might move around later on ergo should be way higher than it is but whatever um i take that one and come try a guy and put them together oh do not do not do that i will punch you um but oh that's a good man that's a good good ranking i like this i like this ranking overall um i think Like you've, you've got, you've got the, you know, what season three is, you know what it's about. You get it. You, you absolutely get it. So I'm excited to get in and see for, I will tell you, Jeff, I'm really excited for season four, my favorite episode of the entire series.

[57:08] Is in season four. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And it might be like the number one episode. I think if you look at like, you know, ranking the episodes of SG one, This episode could be like the number one episode in a lot of lists. And it certainly is mine. Do not tell me which one it is after we've watched it. I will not. I will not. But you're going to know. You're going to know. I'm going to hate it. Or, yeah, or, no, there's no way you're going to hate this one. There's no way. If you do, I'm stopping the show. Right. Like, we're done.

[57:39] I will delete. I no longer qualify. I will delete everything that we have done and erase it from memory because we'll just be that wrong. Anyway uh with that jeff that is gonna do it for us here for season three we're solidly into season four now uh that's gonna do it for nemesis and small victories next time oh jeff oh i'm gonna give you one hint okay all right i'm gonna give you the title and i'm gonna give you a hint i want you to tell me what it is all about you're never gonna catch it from the hint but that's okay all right the name of the episode is the other side this episode has a phenomenal trekk crossover.

[58:16] Guest appearance oh well that totally gives it away absolutely go for it there's you're gonna love it and you're as soon as you see here whatever you're just like bam they've been great trek crossovers so far we've had quark and jellico and thousand percent you do not expect this one coming okay cool other side makes me think of the doors right break on through but i also think that's um we've already done alt stuff or whatever although we have mirror mirror tilk going with his little soul patch could remind us it's the year 2000 i'm gonna guess that another episode just episode monster of the week planet of the week episode and they're gonna have to like play subterfuge kind of game and make it like they're playing the other side you know double agent kind of a thing so hitting you know warring groups on this other planet and oh yeah we're totally buddies with you but they're really not they're playing for the other side right well we'll see what happens next time here on stargate sg1 you are a good guesser jeff no thank you're a good guesser hey listen guys thanks so much for joining us big double episode longer than normal thank you guys so much don't forget, To subscribe to the show, wherever you get the show, whether it's on YouTube, audio podcast, whatever.
