So uh let's hop into it. Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in thy sight. O Lord, our strength and our redeemer. In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen.
SPEAKER_03Amen.
SPEAKER_04Amen. All right. What's up, soldiers? You know, if y'all tuned in to the first episode, we're going to be referring to our audiences as soldiers. So I'm glad y'all can tune in, man. We appreciate y'all. We hope that y'all get a word on today that can feed your spirits and that you can apply for the rest of your lives. Hell yeah. Cooking up. Uh how y'all feeling, man? How y'all? You gotta go first this time. Uh-oh. Y'all gonna be leaving up. I'm feeling good and feeling great, you know. That's that. Seeing as though it is my birthday. Yeah, 2021, boy. 2021 plus, you know, we ain't gonna say it, but yeah, I'm still feeling young, man.
SPEAKER_03Happy birthday, my brother.
SPEAKER_04Thank you, man. Thank you. I appreciate it. It's um it's a good time, man. It's a it's a busy time, honestly. Yeah, because uh, you know, I ain't gonna say too much, but you know, I'm working look, got some cooking. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_01Got some cooking, so uh good. That time of ticket, boy. That time it takes.
SPEAKER_04But in due time, man. In due time, man. Uh, what about y'all, man? How y'all feeling, man? Who wanna got it, man?
SPEAKER_03Uh the tempo, man. I'm blessed, man. I'm blessed, you know. Just blessed. That's all I can say. I'm a bit tired. You know, work was work been working on your boy. You feel me? But we're here, so you know, ain't nothing I can't handle, you know, getting stronger and and better every day.
SPEAKER_02I'm feeling good, bro. Feeling good, feeling blessed, man. Glad to be here. Uh man, it's a season, man. It's a season in the spirit right now where, you know, a lot of the seeds that you planted in the previous seasons, uh, the harvest is manifesting right now. I feel it in my spirit. It's the word of God has been giving me. So just trying to be uh ready, be obedient, be a steward of what he giving me. Be ready. You know what I'm saying? Be appreciative, for real, be grateful. So I'm doing good, bro. Doing good.
SPEAKER_04Man, that's that's good to hear, man. I know we go, we all got these, we all got our journeys, man. We all busy, you know what I'm saying? Y'all got y'all ministry that y'all be having going on, still gotta, you know, go to work and and and be husbands and be there for the wives. So it's always a blessing to where we can still just take that time and you know, just focus on ourselves and just recalibrate, you know, with the with the Lord.
SPEAKER_02So yes, sir. Yes, sir.
SPEAKER_04Oh man. Uh day, every day, though. Yeah, yeah. Well, man, let's get right into the topic, man. Let's go.
SPEAKER_02So you got for us today, man. What you got for us? Tell it to the soldiers out there.
SPEAKER_04The soldiers, man. The topic of the day is persecution. Yeah, you uh that's all right, y'all.
SPEAKER_05Story of my life.
SPEAKER_04Story of my life, man. So just to open it up, I always want to reference the the Bible, right? Because that is our that's that's our guide, you know, that's our guidance. Yes, sir. So we're gonna um read from the book of 2 Timothy, chapter 3. If you guys can pull up, uh pull up your Bibles. I like to get mine off the phone. You know, I gotta be like my brother Josh here. Actually, I do own the Bible though. Don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_02Shout out to the wife again, man. She uh got me together, man.
SPEAKER_04She got me together. The wise always, you know, we think we be on our thing. The wise always there to just make sure like I had the phone.
SPEAKER_02No, no, you need your Bible. Say look, say look. It hit different for sure. It do. It does different.
SPEAKER_04So I'm gonna be reading from the New King James Version. Again, this is 2 Timothy chapter 3. But know this that in the last days, perilous times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure, rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying his power, and from such people turn away. For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women, loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of truth. Now as Janice and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth. Men of corrupt minds disapprove concerning the faith. But they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. And I'm gonna go ahead, I'm gonna just read through the uh the rest of it. So verse 10 picks up but you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long suffering, love, perseverance, persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch. Oh, by the way, this is uh Paul. Paul uh Paul Paul, yeah. Apostle Paul right now, 2 Timothy. So this is him speaking to his basically his disciple uh Timothy. Sound in the faith. Yep. Um he said, this also happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lastra. I'm I'm probably butchered. Hey, I would have definitely over there, boy. I'll just get that one like icon. You know what I'm saying? At the L, at the L. He said, What persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and apostles will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them. And that from the childhood, and that from childhood you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. And all scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction and righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
SPEAKER_03And uh we'll how the Lord add a blessing to the hearers and readers of his word. Amen. Amen, amen. Amen. And amen.
SPEAKER_04And I think this is right before he was um, I don't know if he was like, if he knew he was getting ready to go away, uh go be locked up, or he just felt like the last of his uh times was coming, but he felt the need to let his his young disciple know what's to come, you know? And I chose this, this uh, well, we chose this passage because we believe it sh it uh what's the word? It applies to nowadays, right? Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. He seen the future for sure. Yeah, and it's just like anybody that follows Jesus is good. I mean, if they persecuted Jesus, you know, why they gonna persecute you. Yeah and that's in John, John 15 and 20. You know, so what'd they say?
SPEAKER_03Even Jesus had haters. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And um, you know, we I think nowadays we have to be more bold and stern in our beliefs now because I don't know, I mean, I know I'm sure y'all seen, but people becoming more bold and I guess coming a crit coming uh against Christ. You know what I'm saying? Like they getting way more bold, you know what I'm saying? And I know everybody says, oh, we're living in the last days, it's the last days. But I was just talking about this earlier at on uh at breakfast. It's like nowadays, like back in the day growing up, times was maybe we was just younger and we didn't realize it. But I just feel like it's been it's done got worse now.
SPEAKER_03It's definitely people are way more bold. I feel like now it's like if you're not jumping off the deep end with your thoughts, with your words, it's like, I don't know, if your words don't have shock value nowadays, it's like, are you really saying something? That's what people think, I feel like. It's just, and then, you know, back in the day, I was I was always taught to, you know, uh, if you ain't got nothing good to say, don't say it. Like nowadays, it's like, if I don't get nothing bad to say, I ain't gonna say it. But I don't know, it's just, especially uh, you know, I used to work in education and the way that like the youth and stuff, you know, just communicate with one another. It is, I don't know, we just we need prayer.
SPEAKER_02It don't surprise me though, and I I agree with you for sure we need prayer. It don't surprise me, though, because we was born to be fruitful and to multiply.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, and and and if you have something that's uh let's just say a man that's not godly, his job is going to be to multiply whether he know it or not. He's gonna create another person that's ungodly and another person. So I definitely think times have gotten worse because, you know, we're not praying for the laborers the way we need to. We need God to raise more pause. Timothy to us. You know what I mean? Because we're here to multiply. But what you multiplying, something good or something not so good.
SPEAKER_04Whatever you sowing, that's what you're gonna reap. So if you out here just sowing calamity and chaos, you know what I'm saying? That's what you're gonna reap. Calamity and chaos.
SPEAKER_03Harvest is plentiful.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and we can see that daily for me. Um, man. So I guess uh let me let's just jump right into the the reflection. Yeah. Um, and I'll give us, you know, we usually take time to uh do it, but I guess the reflection question of the day is or the the episode is why do you think people try to tear those down who's trying to do right or trying to do good?
SPEAKER_03I once heard her saying, I don't know who it's from, uh whoever made it up, but learning to hurt people hurt people. And I think that instead of people doing the the internal and looking deeper, uh turning to God, turning to the word, trying to lean on each other, instead of you know, trying to take themselves out of their pit, they're trying to bring people down to their pit and even you know push them down even further, kind of use them as a footstool instead of saying, you know, I I need some help. Like I'm in my lowest right now. Like I'm reaching out a hand to help instead of you know trying to put somebody else down, even though you're down bad yourself. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04What they say is uh misery loves company. Yeah, yes sir. Like, don't nobody want to be, you know, if they feeling bad and and down and everything, and then here you come smiling, just letting your light shine, and you know, people kind of turn an eye to that and you know what I'm saying? And it's but I ain't gonna lie, bro, that's a story of my life for real, you know, because I I feel like I've always been the type to just try to just be like be good with everybody. Somebody had to tell somebody told me early on, like, bruh, AJ, bro, you can't please everybody. Like you can't be friends or like because everybody just just not going right. And I'll be like, bruh, but why not? I haven't done anything to them. Like it may be sometimes I'll probably say something that it probably don't land right or whatever, but I know the meditation of my heart, bruh. Like, I'm never wishing ill on anybody. And it's just like sometimes, bruh, it just ain't received that way.
SPEAKER_03I was told the same thing. I I I vaguely remember or I vividly remember my mother telling me I was in college and uh, you know, just going through my ups and downs in life and got into a bit of trouble. My mom was like, you know, you got a big heart. And she said, Yo, your heart is your your greatest strength and your biggest weakness. So like, yeah. Just sometimes like just trying to trying to be there for everyone, trying to love everyone, try to just, you know, just people pleased in a sense, but not people please. And it it ended up hurting me some and hindering me some instead of, you know, flourishing.
SPEAKER_02Man, I'ma uh I'ma answer. You said, why why do you think people try to tear down those that are trying to do good? I think um I think a couple different reasons. Uh first thing that come to mind is you're a product of your environment. Um but I think we being citizens of the kingdom, we are product of the kingdom. And when you live in this world and you don't know who Jesus is, you know what I mean? You want you ain't walking with those who know who Jesus is. I think you you become victim of the the ways of this world. And this world is cruel. Don't get me wrong, it's some good, it's some good things that you can, it's good things you can find, some things that, you know, some pleasure, some some some things that could benefit you, but overall, bro, this world is tough on people. You know what I'm saying? It's a capital, you ain't a capitalist, bro. People trying to, you know, they just trying to get a dollar. You feel me? They don't really care about people, they don't love people. So I think that's one one reason why, you know, um is people tear people down. I don't think they do it necessarily on purpose, but they just know what they've been taught.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean? You only know what you've been taught. So that's the first thing to come to mind. But then but then another one is like, bro, you know, you you you have to be able to just like what they say, bad company corrupts good character. Yeah, like scripture.
SPEAKER_04I don't know what's scripture, but you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_02It's like, bro, you gotta be able to discern that discern who to be around. Sure. You know what I'm saying? It I think your circle, they say you are who you are, or who you are around the most, or you hang around. And I think, bro, a lot of us don't be around godly people. Yeah, you know, walk with the wise and become wild, but those that companion you with fools will be destroyed. And I think that's why a lot of people tear down good people is because they they walking with people that's not good themselves. You know what I'm saying? More being a follower than a leader. And it's hard. It's hard to be like, bro, man, that man, I ain't doing that today. I'm going this way. Right, right, right. You know what I mean? And now you gotta deal with that persecution and people don't like that.
SPEAKER_04So they like, they like, what what makes you think like you you better than us, type, you know what I'm saying? Or like, oh, so you think you could just go and just do this and do that? Like we are, like being that black sheep, bro, like you gotta, you gotta have a sense of just uh of confidence, or I like to call it like like Godfinness, bro. Yeah, it's not gonna be a good thing. Like you gotta like, because you're gonna, it's not narrow, narrow is the path, bruh. Yeah, like like narrow is the path to the kingdom of God, but it's just like when you try to walk that path, like, and it's so weird because if we call to to be disciples and and try to convince other people, so now not only do we have to kind of like like trailblaze that path, well not trailblaze, Jesus trailblaze the path for us, but to just follow after him in a world that's so you know that desp that what did they say, the despise the despise despises of good. You know what I'm saying? So when you're trying to do that, and then you trying to convince other people, like it's just like how do we, you know what I'm saying? How do we overcome that?
SPEAKER_03Like, how do we, you know to answer that question on how do we overcome it is I think we gotta uh just let our light shine. And that's that's one of my daily prayers. So uh just you know that I pray over the wife and I and I my you know, everybody really, family, friends, and loved ones, but just to let our light so shine so you know we can that other people can see and glorify our father. But then and also when you let your light shine, you know, you might be that bright light in in somebody's darkness. You might help them out that dark spot instead of you know, like we said earlier, how people trying to put you down, you know, really trying to lift you up. And it it is hard to be that black sheep and to be different, but you know, why not us?
SPEAKER_02Man, that's the question, though. Like, why not? Like, I people gotta know who they are. You know what I'm saying? Christ. So I think to help you gotta be confident and then stop trying to please people. You know what I'm saying? I think that's where we get caught up. You know, it's hard to be a black sheep because you want to fit in. God ain't create you to fit in, He created you to stand out. You know what I'm saying? So, like, it's a scripture I be thinking about, I read about every day, bro. Meditate on Galatians 1.10. Am I not trying to win the favor and approval of man or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone if I was still trying to be popular with man or not be a bondservant of Christ? It's like, bro, you gotta, it's not for other people, bro. I'm not trying to win yo attaboy, I'm not trying to win after your pat on the back. Like, bro, I'm trying to do what my creator designed me to do. You know what I'm saying? I want to hear well done, my good and faithful servant. So, like, if that means one million people walk left, but I walk right. But I'm walking in the righteousness, then you know what I'm saying? It's like, bro, you feel me? Like, like that's what it's about. But it's hard to do that, bro. That's what I'm saying. Like, because you know, you got people tease you in school, or you know what I'm saying? You at work, and now everybody like, oh, they don't want to mess with you, you weird. You know what I mean? So like it ain't easy to do that, you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_04And we still human, you know what I'm saying? We still have those feelings like like bruh, like, so it's my birthday, right? Yes, I think. Like, of course, everybody wants to be, you know, felt felt celebrated.
SPEAKER_05For real, man.
SPEAKER_04Come on, man. Come on, bro. So of course, everybody wants to be celebrated. You know what I'm saying? Everybody wants to be, you know, like feel appreciated. But it's just like at times, and I feel like for me, it's kind of created like this thing to where I kind of it's not expecting people to to like let me down, but it's just like I don't, I don't get too high and I don't get too low. You know what I'm saying? That's in proverbs. And it's just like, dang, I would love for, you know, everybody who who seen that it was my birthday told me happy birthday. But that ain't the case, you know what I'm saying? Because to be honest, sometimes people might not be really happy that, you know what I'm saying? I'm gonna say happy that you're living or that you're alive, but just like some people don't be happy, happy, yeah. They not really happy for you because they ain't happy for themselves. Yeah, yeah. You know what I'm saying? They ain't joyful themselves. I hurt myself, brother. Yeah, so it's just like, wow, I tell you happy birthday, and I'm feeling miserable inside. You know what I'm saying? So it's just like, like you say, I guess we just gotta keep letting our light shine. And um Yeah. So I guess the next I guess the next question I want to ask, we got a few minutes. Um any personal stories or anything that y'all can remember in specific growing up of that you had to face with um that you felt, you know, persecuted or ostracized.
SPEAKER_03Oh, um. I had a couple. I mean, you know, I grew up my my dad is a deacon, mom's a deaconess. So I grew up in a church when every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, sometimes Friday, Saturdays, prerequisitors, yeah, yeah. You know, my first job was in the church. So, yeah, we had a big uh banquet hall. So just like, you know, not being able to, or you know, friends doing stuff, man, why are you going to church so much? Or y'all always at church? And then just me wanting to bridge that gap. I'm like, yeah, y'all should come to church. Um you know it it worked some days, a lot of days it didn't. But, you know, that was one thing. And I I always I always kind of um marched to the beat of my own drum. So I think that was another thing. Like, like you said earlier, Josh, when people go left, I was going right a lot of times. And you know, if I didn't think it was cool, it wasn't cool. Like, and I was cool with that. And sometimes I did get persecuted for it, sometimes I didn't. And I think I didn't because the times I did before it just it didn't phase me. So it was like, all right, like, yeah, I know B Dot ain't going, or nah, like, or yeah, he's going to church today, but that's and that's a gift, bro, because not everybody can really do that, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_04Just be like, let it hit you and then just, you know. Brush it off your brush. Brush it off your shoulder, like, you know.
SPEAKER_02I wanna uh I want to say a definition real quick of persecutor. It's just a uh Google definition, not the biblical. It's truth in it, but it's just the Google definition. I don't want nobody, you know what I'm saying? People might be trying to. But it's a treated in a cruel, unfair, or hostile way over a long time. You know what I'm saying? Just to give our soldiers out their perspective. Like, you know, whenever you've been treated a cruel or hostile way over a long period of time, um, I think it's just the way that I live. You know what I mean? Like I I don't I don't necessarily think it's been one specific moment. People question my Decisions because they don't understand why I do what I do. You know what I mean? And whether that was going to college, I want to go to Michigan my whole life, then I go to Michigan State last minute. You know what I mean? Whether it's, you know, I'm I bro, I don't I don't drink or smoke no more. You know what I'm saying? Or I don't party, I don't turn up no more, you know what I mean? Like I I I left that life alone back in the college, you know what I'm saying? So, oh why you doing that? You acting funny, you don't want to hang out with us no more. Or or or you got a wife now, you know what I'm saying? So now you can't come out as much. So I just think, and it's not even that, oh you doing, you doing sermons now, you on a podcast now, or okay, you don't want to kick it, you know what I'm saying? So I think it's just when people don't understand why you make your decisions, I think it can be uh viewed as persecution. You know what I mean? I think people can be, and I and I don't take it personal, you know what I'm saying? Because everybody don't have the same insight, they don't have the same calling or the same purpose neither. So you know what I mean. I can't get mad at Joshua for being Joshua and Moses being Moses. They not supposed to be the same people, they two different types of people. So, you know, I think that's that's that's kind of how I it's just been a lifelong thing. Like, people don't understand why I do what I do. And it's been times I tried to explain it and they just didn't get it. So now I I don't I don't use my words as much. Yeah, I just use my actions. You know what I mean? But Jesus said it better than I could have. He said, Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, you know what I mean? So like if I'm persecuted, bro, that's a blessing. Yeah you feel me? Whether you understand it or not, you know what I'm saying? I take it. So yeah, that's that's kind of that's kind of where I'm at with it.
SPEAKER_04Bruh, ditto, like I say, my whole life grew up in the church, you know, was there. I went to the church school. So I'd be at church on Sunday, then Monday through Friday, went to the school. We had, you know, do uh devotional and everything like that every morning before we start our classes. So I was there. So on Saturdays, you know, we cleaned up. So just that atmosphere and just being around, even if I didn't know, I I mean I didn't know Jesus for myself. I knew of him. I knew what he did, but I didn't know him. So just being in that environment and then start when I started going out into the world, I started to realize not everybody was that way. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So then, because I I think I went to that church, the private church school up until seventh grade. And then eighth grade, I went to the um, I went to the Y on uh what was called the Y. I think it's DSLA now, right there on Seven Mile Laucer. And then I went uh high school to the to Weston Technical right down the street, basically on Eight Mile and Burg. So you know, went to end up going to Michigan State, as y'all know. And it's just like I didn't start really being bold and confident in who I am until about umtil about halfway through college. And then, you know, I end up joining, you know, I joined a fraternity, and you know, that's gonna be another conversation, you know, for another day. But you know, still kept still kept my still kept my my my confidence and my faith in God, my eyes on God, even through the fraternity and everything, you know what I'm saying? So as I go, end up moving to Atlanta, you know what I'm saying? Um, and it's like people they'll gravitate me, gravitate to me just because, you know, I'm letting my light my light shine and being that good, you know what I'm saying, trying to be a a good person. But then for me, it's just always like people they'll smile, like, okay, cool, cool. Like, he can't always be like this. Like, over time, it starts, they start to kind of switch up. Like, man, I've I almost like they're getting tired of me being happy or joyful or smiling or just being, you know what I'm saying? And it's just like, dude, like I ain't did nothing to you, I ain't said nothing to you. People just fall off the wayside out of nowhere, you know what I'm saying? They stop, you know, hit me up, stop, you know, calling, texting, you know, hit me up on social media, anything. You know what I'm saying? It just starts going down. And it really started when I gave my life like fully wholeheartedly to Christ. This is like 23. That's when I really start people start to change. And, you know, now, like I said, it don't it don't bother me as much now, but to be honest, like it kind of took a toll on me because again, I still had that sense of like I just want everybody to be happy. Yeah, you know, for real. So it got it bothered me a little bit, but now like I'll say like the last like four or five years, I started to become more just like this is what it is. I'm gonna keep letting my light shine. Yeah, because eventually, you know what I'm saying? I want it to shine to the point where it'll drive out their darkness and then they come to the light. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, for sure. Um the same way, AJ and Josh. But uh one thing that helped me is just finding that godly community. Uh well, we started uh bridging the gap and then you know, with the other brothers, uh with mogul, with um Alter, like just just finding those godly communities, uh being around good brothers of the faith. And then just like I said, just letting our light shine. Just still. Um I don't I don't hang out with the with the you know the day ones and stuff as much. But I still I pray for them daily, you know, every now and again. I do I do go hang out and chill and everything, but not all the time, not like I used to, for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, man, bro. I we was once blind, but now we see. Like I just feel like bro, it's a blessing to like because I want the soldiers to know, like, bro, it's a blessing to be persecuted. I know that sounds crazy, but like trials and tribulations, suffering, bro. If Jesus suffered, we suffered with him. Yeah, but he was consoled and comforted, and we'd be consoled and comforted, bro. So I I now look, like you said, AJ, bro, I now look at it as like, bro, it's a it's a blessing, bro, to be persecuted. You know what I mean? If anybody take anything away from this, bro, stay, stay, stay, stay walking that walk and talk in that talk, bro.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction and righteousness. That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
