Decide On Joy

Is It Your Fault?

Jim Covault

Hello and welcome to this episode of Decide on Joy, a podcast coming to you from Harmony Spiritual Center in Fort Worth, Texas. My name is Jim Koval. And my name is Reverend Dr. P. J. Stanley. Welcome to Decide on Joy. This podcast is Mostly about issues around new thought spirituality and things like that. Our last episode if I release them in that order Right. Correct. One of the episodes, previous episodes. Yes. We were talking with Reverend Pat Moore about healing and, and a sort of second Stage of that has come up that we want to talk about today and that's the feeling of Well, I think this may have been mentioned in a class that that pj's teaching. Yes. Yes It's it's easy in that context to well, maybe not easy But it's not uncommon for people to feel like it's their fault if they're sick. That is correct and it's a failing on their part, right? You Right. Which you can see how you would get there. Absolutely. Absolutely. Because if we, if we feel like we can, you know, we can heal ourselves, you know, physician heal thyself. If you feel like you can heal yourself and yet you still have a disease or something that's harming you, then, then the, the tendency is to look inward and blame yourself. And it's also the tendency of this group to say, well, you know, you're not praying right, or you're not something, whatever it is to say that it's your fault. Yeah. Yeah. In this case, now, you mentioned prayer there, and I guess it wouldn't be exactly the same sort of thing as, say, your traditional Christian thing where everyone's saying, oh, please take this disease away from me. Yes, right, right, right. We think about it differently. Yes. Yeah, we do. So how do we think about it? Yeah, so what is so different about how we think? So what we, What we believe is that we are individualized expressions of the divine. And that's not as blasphemous as it sounds because the thing is that each and every one of us are individualized expressions of our parents. We're our own person, but we have the DNA of our parents and generationally we have all of that DNA within us. So what we're saying is, is that we have the DNA of God because God created it all. If that is the case, and it is, we believe that it is, then we have the power. Within us. We are not God, but we have the power available to us, within us, from God through us. And so we can speak directly to the things that we wanna do, what we, how we want to heal, all of that. We can just speak directly to the God within us, the the high power that's in in us. And that's how we feel about it. And it goes that way with whatever we want, whatever we wanna manifest. Whether it is more health, wealth a better job whatever your purpose in life, whatever it is. We believe that we can go to this, that knowingness within us and know the truth about ourselves, which is that we are abundant. The universe is abundant. God is abundant. And we are here to have a great and abundant life. That is the basics, basis of what we believe. So when you're set out to, to heal yourself or to heal someone else? Yes. And, and new thought and science of mind. Do you share a little genetics with, with Christian science back in the, yes. Yes. But it's not that, no, it's not that, it's not Christian science. No. And there's no, there's no, there's nothing about not going to doctors or anything of No, no. Well, the doctors in, in our opinion, everything that's here. is a part of God. So, you know, so we wouldn't have to, I mean, if, if, if medicine is found, if the doctors are have that kind of mind to know that kind of thing, then why wouldn't we use it? We don't have to look at that and say, well, that's not a part of God. It's all a part of God. How we want to use it is what we determine. So in, if you're aiming to, to heal whatever is ailing you or to heal someone else. Right. And it's not working. Yes. It's natural enough to think, Okay, I'm not doing this right. Right. Or I have failed at this. And in some sense, that's true. I mean, it's not as simple. It's not as you can just flip a switch and say, Okay, I am now in the proper place in regard to this. And I will make it go away. Right, right. It's a matter of, Yep. Continually keeping your head in the right place. That is correct. So here's, I want to bring an example, I'll take it away from health and illness and take it into something like what you feel about money. So many of us were raised with the idea, and we are surrounded by race consciousness, meaning the human race. It's consciousness of and then it's in the, it's in the Bible too, misread, but it's in the Bible too about that you know, it's, it's money is the root of all evil. Now what the Bible actually says is the love of money is the root of all evil, is what it actually says. But what we think is money is the root of all evil. It's harder for a rich man to go through the eye of a needle or all the, I'm not quoting it correctly, but anyway, it's all of these negatives about having money. Money. and how positive it is to be poor. This is in my upbringing. So when I want to affirm that I have more money, that I have flow and all of the wonderful things that I want to do with money, it's not, it's, I want to, to give to this center that I, that I believe in. I want to help my daughters. I want to help my family. I want to help strangers. There's a lot of great things that I want to do with money, but I have to constantly, Talk to myself, pray about that and bring my level of understanding and, and, and belief in my bones about money. And so that's going to take a lot of shifting. That's not going to happen over one prayer over one time. And, and I look around at my family and I see how we have over the, over the generations are making more money. So I can see generationally it is changing, but that is within our. That's within our blood, within our DNA, to have this thought, which is in our, not just in your mind, but in your, in your body as well, about what you can, what you can do, and what, and that it's okay to, to want more money. Right, and even if you didn't have the money, it's the root of all evil thing going on, which I didn't particularly, but it's sort of a level of, you know, Of what you you're comfortable with what you think you should exactly you know that It's not exactly that it's it's horribly wrong to to but but it just doesn't It's, it's like you, you aim for where you feel like you're supposed to be. Thank you. There's a, there's a, all of us, whether we know it or not, and you can check this out by how much you've made and how much you, you, you stall out when you try to go someplace else what's on your mind, but all of us have a thermostat or a limiter. We have a, we have a limiter on what we believe we can do, or what we believe we are are, are supposed to be blessed with the money that can come in the, the, the, the, the love that we can have in our lives. Whatever the things are that we want that bring in joy. We all have limiters in some ways. Some of us are, the limiters are high. Yeah. Some people, the limiters are low. And so our journey through this life is consistently attempting to raise the limit of what we believe we deserve. To have, and here's the thing, the spirit, if you, if, particularly if you are a parent, whether you are a parent of a child, whether you are a parent of a, of a pet parent, something that you love, you're not limiting them. You want what's best for them. If that's what we think as human beings, then what in the world would God think? It's not putting us here to limit us. Right. We're putting the limits on ourselves. So if we can continue to try to reach that God mind, that God understanding, that we're here to be great, to do great things, and to help one another, then there are no limits other than what we place on it. So we're constantly trying to raise the limit of what we believe we can have. It's the same way with health and healing. Right. It's the same thing. It really is. And, I mean, in the case of the money thing, well, it might relate to the other as well. I mean, I think I sort of, early on at some point, without actually thinking clearly in those terms, kind of bought into the starving artist of the image. Right. Correct. Hello? Yes. Yes. Yes. Exactly. And And you don't necessarily realize that that's back there, you know. That's exactly right. You, you, you only realize you have a limiter when you come up against the limit. When you want to do something else, but, or you want to have more. And then you, one of the powerful things that we have on our ability to do as human beings is to check our thinking because everything that is created in the universe is what we think As New Thought, this is what we know for a fact, and you will know it too as I speak this. Everything is created twice. It's created in your mind first. Somebody has an idea of something and then they go about creating it. So we have to raise the thoughts in our minds about what is possible and then we can Actually manifest it so it's a constant raising of what our minds are would allow us to believe and we can continue to say that to ask spirit raise the limit. I want I desire to raise the limit. I want more. I want more and keep asking for that and you just keep on raising it. And sometimes, it seems to me anyway, it's not just what the thoughts that are going on there, but sometimes emotions can get in the way. I mean, like, like we were talking the other day, if you're someone who holds on to a lot of anger, for instance, Right, right. That can certainly affect your health. Exactly. At least it would seem so. There's no question about it. I think, I think, I don't know, I haven't read the scientists, but it makes sense to me. I've certainly had people that I've talked with in different groups teaching classes, being involved in class and heard people say things like, I am pissed off and I deserve this pisstivity. You, right? I deserve this anger. Well, well, okay. There was a period, maybe we're coming out of it, but there was several years there, maybe like 10 years that there was a general thing in, in the culture that if you weren't angry. There was something wrong. You're not awake in some way. You know, you're not aware of what's going on if you're not angry and pissed off about it. But anger and passivity is not going to get you anywhere. It's, it's not a, it's not a growth situation for you or for anyone. You can't change anything, but you, you're the only thing that can, that you can change that makes a difference in your life. So if you decide, and it's a decision there again, no judgment, all we're telling you about is things that we know for sure. There's no judgment about it. It's your life. If at some point you're not happy with your life, you can begin to have a different thought about whatever it is you're unhappy with and change it. The beginning, the beginning of change, the beginning of manifestation is the changing of a thought. That is the beginning of it. Or even the, the, the changing of a thought if you already got something, or the actually having a thought of something, if you don't have it already, if you don't have what you want manifested. If you do have it, but it's not manifested to the level, that you want, then you change your thinking about it. If there is a limiter on it and you have not been able to, to move higher, there's a limiting thought somewhere in your body. There's a limiting thought and you can look back on your history and find out where that is. Yes. You can. And it's that element of it that can take longer than you might want. That is the problem. Yeah, because you know, we, you know, the things that are limiting us is possible, not all, but it's possible there's some pain attached to it. That you, that limit came as a, as a, as a protector of your heart, your mind, whatever. And so it's, the mind does a great job of protecting you. from hurt, some additional hurt. So, so sometimes you have a limiter on you that you're not aware of that saved you from something else, but it's no longer working or serving you now. And so so we have to look at that and think, okay, whatever that's coming up, I'm going to be able to, from this adult perspective or this new perspective that I have to handle that. So I'm willing to look at it now, but, but, but only until you get to that place where you are willing to look at it. Can you then begin to change the thought about it? Right. And that's just the way it is. It's okay. It's just the way it is. Just giving you some information. It's not wrong or right. It just is. Right. And I mean, I, patience issues. I tend to think, okay, I understand this Why doesn't it fix itself? No, right now what's going on? Why do I have to, why do we, why do we, why is this taking eons, here? This it's happening right now. Yes, Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. And I think over the, over the years, I won't, I won't tell my age, but old enough to know that things take time. Generally, some things will come with so much quicker than you'd think. Mm-hmm But most things. We'll take longer than you think you think about the for any of you have gone well, all of us have pretty much all of us have gone to school and not everybody I suppose but Let's just say that we've all kind of gone through High school through the you know from elementary through high school Whatever part of high school you got through and every stage that you went through when you were in it It seemed difficult, but when you went to the next level the last level seemed easy You see what I'm saying? So, it takes you, let's say, from the first to second grade, or the kindergarten to the first grade. It's a year. And when you're doing it, you don't really think about colors, you don't really think about blocks, you don't really think about shapes. But when you get to the next level, it's like, oh, that's stuff you know now. And so what they're trying to teach you in the next level, it seems hard. But then when you go, when you get out of there and you look back, you know what that is now. And so that's life. That's life. We don't know what level we're at and what we need to learn. But once we go through it and we're at the next level, you have that solidly and we now know how to go or what it's gonna take to go to the next level. It is always work. And sometimes we're just tired and don't want to do the work and I just say it myself, you know what? I know I can change it, but I'm not ready. I'm too tired from the last thing. I'm gonna hang on to that for a while. And our minds can be devious creatures. Oh my stars! Oh my stars! You know, you deserve a break. You should go ahead and kick back on that one. Yeah, or the It can be saying to you. Oh, this is what the problem is Right, and how do you know it isn't that because it doesn't fix the problem. Yeah, that's how you know, I was not fixed. Yeah Like I say my impatient self is saying well, I need something easier than that When I first got into this 1995, I think it was. No. Yeah. Yeah. 1995. One of the first talks, it must have been because it's just stayed with me forever. And I use it as a mantra. And as she said, let it be easy. Just let it be easy. So whenever I'm up against something, and it seems to be hard, I just breathe and say, All right, let it be easy. And just let my mind open up to something easier coming in. It doesn't have to be hard. Yeah, it doesn't have to be. Yeah. Yeah, or as hard well, right and it's not and it's not and and like the title of our our Podcast here decide on joy You can't do that. You can You really can you have to constantly remind yourself probably that part you know because You have a memory your body not only just a mind but a body memory of things and so you just And we're habitual we're happy with creatures of habit So when you want to do something new You still have the habit of doing the old thing and so you're not gonna have to constantly catch yourself Oh, wait, no as he said it against that. I remember I think I shared this story before but jason and I this is my ex husband We would go this was years ago. We would go to mcdonald's And we, we finally, we were at that McDonald's one time because we were traveling around a lot and McDonald's was always in, you know, there. And so we stopped at McDonald's and finally we, we looked at each other and we said, We don't really like McDonald's. It's easy and convenient, but we don't really like these, these, the burgers. So let's stop doing that. And so he said, yeah, let's stop doing that. So of course, the next time we're traveling around and we pull into a McDonald's, and we eat and we start chewing and we're like, I think we decided we weren't going to do this. He goes, yeah, we did. So, okay, well, okay. So, let's stop doing that. And we did. Okay. Then the next time we're out and about, we stop at two McDonald's again. And we, and we, we bought it and we're eating and we go, okay. We definitely said this is the third time. We are definitely done now for whatever reason, it took us three times to realize we don't want to stop going because we were, it was a ha a habit for us to stop in there. It took us three times to actually stop it. Yes. Apologies to anyone involved with Donald Exactly that. Just for us to mean you didn't like it. That doesn't mean Yes, we didn't like it. It's not like every, I mean, clearly they make, they're everywhere and people love it and it's convenient. That's just wasn't what we wanted. We wanted something else. That's all. That's all. Thank you for saying you have to, it's like you have to create new neural, neural connection, neural networks, neural networks. Absolutely. And it just takes that, it just takes the actual doing of it to break that, the neural network that's had you going and habits are good things because they have you staying in something that you love, but it also has you staying in something you don't. And so you have to recognize that this is just a habit of doing. I can break that and stop it. Just stop it. Yeah, just decide. Okay. Yeah, I think we can stop there. I think we can. Thank you and we will see you next time.
